    Such an amazing game

A true classic (slightly overrated) with great graphics, an amazing story, great music, and fun combat. But little variety of enemies and especially bosses. The skin customization is very minimalist. What I liked the most is the relationship between Atreus and Kratos, evolving as the game progresses and puts them into more and more challenging situations. The voice acting and characters in the game are fantastic. The game still looks really impressive almost 5 years later.

Wow. Kratos is back is an epic tale. Amazing graphics, an enthralling story, smooth and effective control, action galore, and family bonding. What more can you ask from a game that transitioned from its camera view to up close and more visceral. It was a bold move and works flawlessly. There are indicators to let you know if enemies are behind as you get used to new view. Also, it is a lengthy adventure, so you will savor the journey. Also, a New Game+ plus mode is imminent, so even more action is on the way. A great entry into the series.

    No brainer. A+++ title

This is a no brainer purchase. It is a must own for any PS4/5 owner. It hooks you in the game immediately. You really get a sense of a high budget blockbuster presentation with this game. If you only play games like Animal Crossing, then this game may not be for you, but for anyone wanting a thrilling challenge adventure, this is it. I also recommend Spider-Man.

I'm not very good at determining what my favourite game of all time is.. I've played so many over a few decades but God of War will be added to the list of games I consider for my favourites. Visually it's amazing looking, and I played it on a ps4 pro on a 4k TV in quality mode(game setting) The setting is great, I love mythology and I can't wait to see more of this world. The story is interesting with some twists and turns yet it manages to also keep itself rather focused. The characters are likable and show growth, there's some good chemistry between them and their voice actors. Gameplay wise it tics a lot of boxes for me. The combat is slower and methodical which is something I like. It's not quite dark souls like but I can see some similarities. There's ample variety as well, you're always discovering new abilities(runic attacks) until the very end(and beyond!) The other aspect of gameplay is the general exploring with some light puzzles that personally are just hard enough to be interesting, without leaving you stumped for any significant amount of time. I'm not a huge puzzle guy so if you're looking for that you may be disappointed (try The Witness) There's "Metroidvania" elements in the game as well. Meaning you'll unlock abilities later in the game that allow you to backtrack and unlock things you came across but couldn't get by. If you follow the critical path you'll probably get 15-20 hours depending on your skill and the difficulty setting. You will probably double that if you do most or all the side stuff which was very worth doing in my opinion. I feel like with the 4 difficulty settings almost anyone can enjoy this game. Will it be an all time great for you? Who knows but even if it's not it's still worth playing.

Great melee action game that becomes open-world

God of War games usually have some satisfying, big wham-slam type of melee action with big sequences and brutal action. This game tries to make that become less bombastic, and a bit more methodical in terms of complexity. Its still somewhat simplistic, but there's more complexity and that helps it become more satisfying to play, especially if you have gotten tired of the old formula. So, that's just one aspect of the game, and in previous games that's pretty all you needed to talk about because, every other aspect of the game was always simple and linear. You just kept moving ahead in a level and killing everything, and you kept doing that until the game was over. This game completely break that mold, and it gives you more in every other aspect. Its an open-world game, you have optional quests, you have the ability to upgrade your weapon, you have a much more expansive set of options for upgrading your abilities. There's more objectives than just the main story. Its a much meatier game all-around. And on top of that, its story is much more mature and dramatic, but they still retain some of those epic, bombastic moments. They do an interesting job with the lore in the game, because they leave the previous backstory and they go to a new place. Its a great looking game, through and through. They have done a great job making God of War interesting again with an expanded formula.

This is the best game I ever played. I am always a fan of GOW series. Played all the previous games but this is one is obviously the best one. This one came after 5 yrs so it can be seen on the amount of effort and thought put into the game. As always with other GOW games the graphics and gameplay are beautiful. There is no loading screen and very smooth experience for such a beautiful game. Love the action and skill tree. This game is also different from other games in the series- 1) Open world 2) Ability to control other charater i.e Atreus - This guy is a real AI who really helps you with the gameplay and not just stand there and watch you fight like other games. For ex: There is a way to upgrade wherein if the enemies gets closer this guy will jump on top of them and strangle them( so you can focus on other enemies). This guy will also throw health stones at you to replenish yourself. Game also is very long. I have probably played 20% so far. Long way to go. But enjoying every bit of it so far. They have also added some really difficult enemies(purple ones you have to upgrade yourself before you can fight them else they will kill you in one blow!!!!). Side quests are real fun too unlike other games it doesnt get boring, redundant or grinding.. Well for one thing it doesnt have any micro transactions which is awesome too.. Must play!!!

It has been some time since I've played God of War. To once again behold the rage of Kratos with the voice of Christopher Judge is just joy-gasm! He should of been the voice of Kratos from game one. The game has a bit different feel to it due to a more open world movement. Still, plenty of people/creatures/Gods to bash and smash and release Kratos mighty man meat muscles into. With upgrading and crafting new weapons and armors and adding enhancements to each. This time around, you are join with Kratos's son. Who acts like Anakin and Luke Skywalker with his constant whining. Just makes you wish you can Hulk out on him with Kratos's axe...or bare hands. The little brat is helpful during battles though. With his bow and arrows he'll help you take out those who have failed the city! Like Kratos, he does have armor that you can get and upgrade as well as his weapon. There are some great conversations that take place that are funny. And Kratos tends to call his own son by "boy" more than by his own name or son. The world is vast and gorgeous, plenty of side quest to do, a nagging child, more gods and creature to release your frustration on, hours of your life gone into a video game. What more can you Axe for? And Kratos has a lot of Axing to do to get his answers!

Easily the best game on the PS4

God of War brings single player and story telling back to the forefront in a way that we haven't seen since The Last of Us. In open world games, I will usually find myself getting bored of the endless side quests, and inevitably start to skip them in order to progress the story. GoW keeps traversing this enourmous, beautiful, emersive world fun. From stories in the host, to the always changing scenary, there is always something to keep you exploring. The combat is fluid. Many hack and slash style games leave the player wanting more, or leave you feeling constantly open for attack. The upgrade system for weapons and skills ensures that you can always evolve your combat style to be better or different once you get the next ability. This is a must own. If you don't have a PS4, and you've been on the fence, this is the game to make the plunge. If you do have a PS4, what are you waiting for! God of War is easily the best title on the console, and quite possibly the best game of the current generation.

    The Game of 2018

One of the best (if not the best) games of this console generation so far. This is a dark, mature action adventure game that will last around ~20-30 hour game (with no filler content) depending on how much you explore, and difficulty level you selected with emphasis on quality over quantity. The game has a very nice pacing/progression system that feels very natural. The game does not hand hold you, or set you to your own devices; rather gives you enough information to figure things out on your own Different from past God of War (GOW) games is that, this game is a over shoulder 3rd person view vs isometric view (camera with birds eye view panning in and out). The camera is very tight fixed, and behind kratos making it more grounded and personal. Entire game is pretty much one-shot (assuming you don't get any game over screen). The game has beautiful environment and the lighting is very impressive. It runs 1080p 30fps on PS4 (original or slim) 4k 30fps, and performance mode 1080 60fps (dips at times) on the PS4 Pro If you play on PS4 pro it's preferred you play at 30fps. The combat this time around is less combo based than past games, and more methodical as it's more about precision hits, quick turns*, and dodging; being aware of your surroundings due to the fixed over the shoulder view. So 60fps is not really necessary unless maybe you're playing on the hardest difficulty mode. * For quick turns there's a learning curve to keep form being disoriented during right corridors. Sound is amazing. Get your headset or home theater system ready because you're in for a treat as the game has really nice surround sound option. Does not support 3D audio in the PlayStation Platinum headset which is disapointing. Hope they add it in, in the future. Music typical for GOW games with drums, string instruments and orchestral vocals that really gets you pumped up There are some audio ques that help unlock hidden items so keep an ear out Interaction/dialogue with kratos and his son feel very real and not dialed in or exaggerated. very nice banter between the two and other characters as well -Story: As mentioned before, very mature yet dark. The story is more narrative driven and has more character development than past games where you're just full of rage and kill everything in sight. Each character has complex motivations in what they're set out to do Takes place in Norse mythology instead of Geek The main plot is that Kratos' wife has died and she wants her ashes spread from the highest mountain Kratos takes his son with him on this journey and through a bonding experience they both grow stronger as they reach their final destination. the journey isn't that simple as it seems as there are twist and turns along the way and enemies they have to face You do get some insight on how Kratos reach this land after GOW3, but it's sprinkled throughout instead of one long exposition Side quests brings out lore of the game and also way to upgrade your skill tree There are boat sections in the game where Kratos gives his son life lessons, conversely his son gives inside knowledge of the world he learned through observation/what he learned from his mother; which makes you more invested in the characters. -Gameplay The combat has a lot of layers/options to it. Instead of Quick Timed Events (QTE) there's a stun meter which which needs to be filled up for kratos make his signature final finishing moves on enemies. Feels very natural as you don't get a huge button prompt the middle of the screen I like how the core combat is mapped to the trigger buttons instead of the face buttons making combat feel more natural There's a skill tree that cater to how you want to play: defensive, offensive, focus on physical or magical attacks, range vs close combat, master a weapon over the other, etc You can upgrade weapons and armor by collecting materials Kratos' main weapon this time around is the leviathan axe (very similar to Thor's (Marvel movies/comics) weapon Mjolnir) instead of his chained blades of chaos. You can throw the axe and have it call back to you like a boomerang. You can swing and throw the axe at enemies and fun to master as you have to judge the timing of when the axe will return to you as without your axe you may only have your bare fists to do battle till it comes back There is some strategy involved especially in the higher difficulty settings. Some enemies are super effective against certain weapons/skills you have to be aware of Krato's son comes along with you on the journey and is able to help with by stunning/detract enemies with an arrow which you can control the activation. Overtime as he becomes more experienced in combat more options are available. He'll also yell out tips when needed** or jump onto enemies to slow them down. Also you can view his journals after you defeat an enemy to find out hidden weaknesses **Seeing the camera is so tight, he'll give you tips you are not able to see at times due to blind spots Armor and clothes can be crafted, purchased, or upgraded via dwarf blacksmiths in game . It changes krato's physical appearance in game. Some armor/clothing piece has slots for enchantments which effects stats Enemies attack you gorilla style as they can attack at anytime they want instead of gathering up in a circle and attacking one by one. Each enemy have different variety of skills, health, size, weakness and speed There are backtracking at times that builds on exploration. Also the environments sometimes change when going back making the location feel different yet the same. There's also hidden areas you cannot access until you get a particular item giving the game this somewhat of a metriod-mania style to it Through mini objectives like kills specific about of enemies to get exp rewards Side quest gives you glimpse of story narrative, exp gain and or material. It doesn't feel like fetch quests or something you have to do to directly upgrade your character . There's no fluff and the side quests does not feel tacked on as it feels necessary, yet optional You'll naturally stumble onto some side quests as the map only shows an overview of the land with a compass that points you to your main objective. Fast travel is limited, making exploration in the forefront. There's not too many side quests making it feel open and direct at the same time As of this review, this is best PS4 game in my opinion. Sets a new standard for video games

From the few hours (8-9) that have been playing it is a pleasant experience overall, the graphics are awesome, the setting of the game makes it feel somehow expansive, mysterious and rather magical, personally I like that. As a fan of the series I can say that it feels refreshing to play God of War within a different setting, with a different camera angle and weapons, I’m enjoying it every second of course. Good •Graphics •Story (just haven’t finished it yet) •Heads up display (only appears when needed) •Difficulty (playing on hard is an actual challenge) •Remap buttons options (having it is always welcomed) Bad •Cluttered menus (like the one showing your quests, your armor and customization ones) •Nothing else yet... It has been a great game up to this point, so I’m looking forward to get the platinum.

It's a really good continuation for the God of War series. I wish I could say a lot more, but I have not finished this game at this date. It takes up so much space in your console's Hard Drive, that I had to delete other games in order to play this. I love the open world concept, a good story, tight controls, and it's just a great game to have.

What a great game. I had a chance to play the original from the PS2 and it was OK. This blows it out of the water. I really like how they made this game. Great voice acting, great story and progression. You're given a lot of freedom to explore at your own pace almost from the very beginning. Some parts can be challenging at times, but with upgrades to weapons, attacks, and armor, you can make short work of your foes in no time. There are quests aplenty and many treasures and collectibles to loot. Fun and challenging enemy battles too.

I play allot of games for ps4 pro, xbox one x, switch and pc. For this reason I often dont finish games before another game comes out that I "have to play" and then distracts away from it. That said, I beat this game and then started playing it a second time! Awesome story, gameplay, controls and graphics, you really can not lose with this game. I am a bit if a graphics snob (especially due to my high end pc) but I have to say that this game consitantly impresses in this area and really shines on a ps4 pro playing on a 4k tv. There is nothing to think about here, just buy it!

God of War is a breath of fresh air from a series that has gotten to caught up in the same tired design. Combat is completely revamped and has a much deeper feel to it. With a wide array of difficulties to choose from you can tailor how hard you want to make the game. the difficulties range from face roll enemies easily to downright brutal to the point where you may get stuck for an hour+ in some places. The story is grand and never really gets dull in any particular area. Even while walking around you will get a lot of dialogue between the father and son so things will never be too quiet.

The original God of War on the PS2 was great, and each installment has added it’s own touch to the series. This game revamped the gameplay and started an all new stroy with new mechanics and characters. The open world like concept, the ability to control the camera angle, and the costumizable options in this game have helped to bring new life to this series. I recomend it to any God of War fan or anyone new to the series. No prior knowledge of the series is required, although it does give you more of a background into Kratos if you have played past games, this game will bring you up to speed if you are new to God of War.

I was pleasantly surprised when I first played this game. It is a very different type of game compared to the older God of War titles. The story, exploration, and combat are much more fleshed out and profound. The visuals are very nice overall. There are a few plot twists here or there that envelope you into the world of this game. You grow fond of the characters you encounter by the end of the game. There is also much challenge throughout the game even on modest difficulty settings. Overall, I would recommend this game to anyone looking for a RPG / exploration style game.

One of the best games I've ever played. I have always liked the God of War series but hated the sexuality and crap in them. This one focused more on being a good game, great mechanics, fantastic story, and such great gameplay and graphics. I've read reviews saying it was the best looking game there is and I have to agree. Seeing Kratos as an older man with so much detail was incredible. He's still amazingly strong, but he looks weathered, he's got gray sprinkled in his beard, his actions aren't repetitive like other games. There's only a few times where I thought to myself that they just reused a scene, way they walked, etc. The whole time Kratos and his son chat together like literally just chat about random crap. There is one part of the game where you do the same thing over and over if you'd like and the son does reuse some phrases. Besides that, it is always flowing, unique, etc. After battles he will ask Kratos "how was that?" Kratos then gives him feedback, it's not the same either, it starts out like you need more training, then becomes things like you are improving but don't stop, to you are doing good, etc. It's amazing how much attention to detail they gave this game. I love Zelda, hands down my favorite series. I also love Final Fantasy as a series but haven't been too thrilled with 12, 13, 13-2, 13-whatever. Zelda Breath of the Wild became my favorite game last year. I loved that game so much, played for hours. Since that time I didn't think I'd find another game that made me feel that good playing it. God of War blew away all expectations and has jumped up to my 2nd favorite game. So much to do but not ridiculous like Far Cry, Elder Scrolls, Fallout, etc. Those games that tend to reset your quests and reuse them. This doesn't do that. There is so much to do and it's actually enjoyable to do them. Upgrades are fantastic, the system is amazing, and everything is absolute fun. The collectibles are attainable. I didn't have to look up anything so far and I've 100% all of the areas except the main one which I've gotten 88%. All that is with just going with the story, inspecting my areas, solving puzzles, whatever. It wasn't too complicated but def not too easy. I cannot tell you how great this game is. Seriously, the team that made this should be so proud. I know some people don't consider games art but there are certain games where you cannot play it and not recognize it as art. This game is art. You can feel the passion the team had, the attention to detail, the love for this game, and time they put into it. It speaks and I would recommend this to anyone. I would honestly buy a ps4 just for this game, even if it's the only game you ever play, you won't be sad. PS4 pro would be the smarter option as it looks so freaking sexy on a 4K tv. This is the kind of game that you want but never get.

This is the kind of game you don't really have to be 100% familiarized with the story in order to enjoy. In fact, I can argue the opposite: the less familiarized you are with God of War, the more you will enjoy this. The game has beautiful graphics and a nice story. Some people (particularly those familiarized with GOW) are a bit annoyed by "boy." By now, you have probably seen or heard about the memes. Don't let that discourage you. And at $24.99 (at the time of this review) is a total steal. Even the regular price of $39.99 is a good deal for this game.

One of the Best action adventure games of 2018 hands down. I've been following the God Of War series since the original Playstation and this latest iteration is the best so far. You DO NOT have to play the prior games in order to follow the series, it seems Santa Monica Studio has made a different story but still keeps the G.O.W. legacy going. Here's my take on it the story, I would compare this to the latest Wolverine movie as an analogy. It's been many years since GOW 3, an aging Kratos has left Greek universe and now running away from his past is trying to start new in the Norse universe, where he wanted to live a quiet life. After his second wife dies and leave him with his son Atreus, his wife's dying wish is to scatter her ashes on the top of the highest mountain which Atreus wants to complete with great enthusiasm. As they prepare and wait for Atreus to get over a sickness, the shadowy and menacing Norse God, Baldur appears at their door and forces Kratos to face his past. This is were the game starts and their journey to fulfill Krato's wife's dying wish begins. The game is different from the past GOW games. Kratos now wields the Leviathan Axe, a weapon left to him by his late wife. In the past, Kratos had the blades of chaos with it's long reach gave players a sense of comfort knowing it will reach enemies keeping them at a good distance even from behind. This sort of weapon made past GOW games more of a hack and slash, button mashing type of game. It's still this way don't get me wrong but to less of an extent and more on precision. The Leviathan Axes are now my favorite weapon for Kratos. It forces players to get out of their "keeping enemies at a safe distance" and get them out of their comfort zone. As you play and develop both Kratos and Atreus, the story of father and son pulls you in and makes you closer to their characters and their dysfunctional relationship. I give this game the best score for enjoyment of playing the game and well as the story line. The creators somehow pulled out a rabbit out of their hats when creating this story of continuing the GOW franchise. At first it seemed stupid but as the story and game play progress the story is perfect.
