Good.. it is useful works but the google home app is not that great
Hey there, AKUM. While we’re glad you're enjoying the Nest Cam (battery), we understand that there may be a learning curve with the transition from the Nest app to the Google Home app. We’re here to help make that transition as smooth as possible. With the Google Home app you’re able to connect with a wide variety of speakers, cameras, thermostats, lights, and a range of other products, all from one place.

Installation and setup are intuitive enough and Google provides a detailed online documentation. There’s an installation video provided by Google, which is necessary to watch in order to properly install the camera and to adequately understand it’s basic functions and advanced features. There’s a specific way to install the camera otherwise the camera may not function properly.
The design is simple and elegant and the camera feels durable. This is not the yester years' boring looking CCTV camera. It carries the characteristics of typical Google line of smart home products. It’s rather large understandably because the camera can operate on battery power.
The camera is versatile as it can be used indoor or outdoor and it can be connected to a power outlet or runs on battery. My other home security system can’t do this so it’s a huge improvement for me. There are several accessories that Google offers including an outdoor ready cable and indoor stand. The battery can last for more than a month and charging requires several hours of down time. It’s easy to take the camera off the mount so aside of the downtime charging the camera is not really an issue.
Data is processed on device, which is good considering that there has been a lot of concerns about how tech companies handle their customers data. However, I don’t know if a thief can access data from a stolen camera though that Google encrypts the video. It’s interesting to note that Google offers replacement in case of theft for up to 3 replacements so this product is indeed outdoor ready.
There’s a tally light when the camera records on something so the subject will be aware of the presence of the camera. This may not be ideal if the camera functions as a secondary/ stealth camera for example in case of home intrusion. You would want the camera to be inobtrusive so the intruder will not tamper with the video recording. You can dim the tally light but can’t turn it off. You can also talk through the camera, which is very useful if you don’t have a video doorbell already.
Video quality is good and Google offers a lot of advanced features such as subject recognition for people, animal and vehicle. You can also select activity zones, which is useful to conserve battery. The video is recorded in HDR 1080P and the camera has night vision. If only the camera supports 4K because it will give us much more detail and more ability to zooming in and more possibility to recognize license plates, name tags and faces.
Google offers a number of plans for the camera: free, Nest Aware and Nest Aware Plus. The top offer gives you the ability to record video 24/7 for 10 days on top of 60 days of video event history. I don’t have the need to purchase the subscription because my primary home security system gives me plenty of free storage capacity, which is more than enough for my purpose. The subscription does cover all of your Google camera and doorbell devices so if you are deep into Google ecosystem, it may be worth it.
The free plan, however, only gives you 3 hours of free event video history. I have no problem with that because my other camera system can record events for weeks and I don’t have to worry about missing out a single event even when I’m on a vacation and say that I have no time or the connection to check the notification for the whole day or even the whole week. But for those who rely on the Google Nest Camera as their primary system, the subscription is something to seriously consider.
The subscription will also unlock advanced features such as alert and detection of familiar and unfamiliar faces, and emergency calling. Familiar faces detection will not work in Illinois due to compliance to the State laws.
I’m not a fanboy of any tech company but it’s quite rare for me not to rate 5 stars for a Google product considering their products are usually polished and works very well. However, I believe that those who have been using a number of home video security system for years would concur that the 3 hours of free event-based video history won’t cut it because there are options out there that would give better value proposition for the customer. If only Google would say: “done, we’re unlocking 168 (7 days-worth) of free event video history.”

Easy setup. Quality video. It does jot require a Neat Aware subscription to work, but you'll be limited to just the last 3 hours of viewing. Battery life is dependent on how much/often you life stream the video.

Does not work with NEST app. I bought this one to replace my other NEST o got a few years ago. But these new "NEST" cameras don't work with the NEST app. They have to use Google Home. So now my other NEST cameras are on the NEST app but i have to use the new one on Google Home. So annoying!! Google Home app sucks.
Hi Jeff, thanks for reaching out. We're sorry to hear about your disappointment with the move to the Google Home app for Nest Cam.
The new generation of Nest cameras, including Nest Cam with Floodlight, is exclusive to the Google Home app. We understand that long time Nest users, like you, have enjoyed viewing your Nest camera feeds from the Nest app. However, our priority with this launch was building a complete experience for our new cameras and doorbell in the Google Home app. We wanted to make the Google Home app as the one place you can control all your favorite Nest and other smart home devices with the Google Assistant. If you´re willing to try, you may set up your older Nest cameras and devices on the Google Home app as well. Hi asdf, thanks for letting us know about the connectivity issue with Nest Cam (Battery). We apologize for any difficulty you may have experienced.
Google Wifi Mesh works just like any other Wi-Fi mesh system, and the connectivity issue could be related to either of the following: - Check for possible congestion in your Wi-Fi network. Removing some of your connected devices can help free up some bandwidth space. You may then check to see if you will still experience the same connectivity issue. - You may also check for possible sources of interference such as the thick walls and appliances in your home.
If you still encounter the same connectivity issues, please consider contacting our support team for further troubleshooting and isolation here: https://support.google.com/googlenest/gethelp

Asked Geek tech guy 2 questions, will my wyfi work with these out door cameras in the selected site , he said yes. 2nd question, since these are rechargeable, how often would I need to charge them, every 3-4 months …. Wyfi could never connect and fully charge last 48hrs :-(. I returned them.

This thing is junk. Wish I would have read reviews before buying. It doesn’t hold a charge, doesn’t record and doesn’t connect to nest app. Can’t return as it’s past the 15 day mark… super disappointed!

Great for monitoring. Easy to install and holds charge for a long time
Hi Arturo, thanks for sharing your feedback to let us know of your concerns with the Nest Cam (battery). We’re sorry to hear that the recording feature is below your preference and needs.
You can adjust the length of time for which events are recorded. The maximum event length defines how long your camera or doorbell will record each individual event. Here’s how to adjust the maximum event length: - Open the Home app. - On the home screen, select your camera. - Tap Settings > Video. - Tap Maximum event length and choose a longer event length.
Also, Google Nest attempts to send you the right number of alerts at the right times, so the camera will trigger a short cooldown period each time a notification is sent. While the duration of the cooldown period varies by alert type (person, sound, motion, etc.) the behavior remains the same. Once an event begins, an alert is sent and the cooldown period begins. Until the cooldown period expires without any new activity of that type, no new alerts of that type are sent.
