Do I love it? NO!
Do I like it? Absolutely!
I hate the fact that you have to use the Google Home app to view them.
In addition, the battery does not really last that long as stated.
However, the quality is awesome and the camera works as advertised.
Hi Ramon, we appreciate you taking the time to write this review. We're glad that your Nest Cam (battery) works as advertised, and are sorry to hear your poor experience with using the Google Home app, and the camera’s battery life.
We’re aware that longtime Nest users enjoy viewing their Nest camera feeds from the Nest app. However, our priority with this launch was building a complete experience for our new cameras and doorbell in the Google Home app. We’re working on a seamless solution to use the Google Home app as the one place you can control all of your favorite Nest and other smart home devices, as well as Google Assistant. Also, using Google Home app provides you with a lot of benefits including access to Google's trusted security platform and access to other Google tools. This means you get a simpler interface and a simpler way to connect all your devices into a single environment.
Battery life will depend on factors including activity, temperature, and camera settings that you select. You can extend the battery life of your camera by adjusting video quality, length of video clips, time between recorded events, and using activity zones to monitor specific areas. This link might be helpful: https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/10901611
If you still have to charge the battery more often than you’d like, you might want to consider connecting your camera to a power outlet with the included or optional power adapter. Connecting to continuous power will keep the battery charged. Please note that the power adapter included with the Nest Cam (battery) is not weatherproof and not intended for outdoor use and you can use a compatible weatherproof cable (sold separately).
We can also check for other reasons why the battery life is less than expected. If you're willing to work with us, please get in touch with us through our available support channels found here: https://support.google.com/googlenest/gethelp

Great video and audio quality. Easy installation. Removing the camera from the mount to recharge was unexpected but easy.

Over all, its very easy to install, set up panels.., but I would love for it to have the feature Heard events to work while connected to solar panel. I noticed that in some instances it detect me but in others it dont.

Worked great overall. Very easy install. Good picture quality during the day and overall battery life for our home works out to months not weeks. The camera performs well at night, though some of the arlo cameras have higher quality (color, resolution) night vision.

First, we are a Google-centric home. Second, I read all the negative reviews of this camera and I was certainly ready to take it back if it did not meet my needs. Most of the really poor reviews were from former Nest camera (before Google) users. We do not fit into that category. This was our first outdoor security camera.
It was easy to set up. However, I was a little taken aback by the requirement to install it between 6 and 6/1/2 feet from the ground. The good news is that this makes it easy to take down and recharge. The bad news anyone could easily reach it. The magnetic mount is very strong, and I am hoping would-be porch pirates will not know it can be pulled off its mount.
It definitely took some time to figure out all the settings. The bad news was the amount of trial and error it took to get it set up the way I wanted it. The good news is the design of the settings allowed me to eventually set it up the way I wanted it.
The other big complaint I read about in the reviews was the battery life. First, it is a trade off. I always intended to use this camera on battery power. Every few years when better models of security cameras are developed, I will be the replacing this one...easily! Second, I only need this camera to capture people...not cars, not animals...just people. Set up in that manner, the battery life has been quite satisfactory, going down only 1-2 percentage points a day. I can live with that!
We live in a condo. It is a good neighborhood and our doors are quite visible, so I am not overly concerned about break-ins. However, I did want to know when packages were delivered so I could bring them in the house as soon as possible and avoid tempting any porch pirate. I did have to increase the sensitivity on this camera. One of our regular delivery guys is very quick and the camera only captured his back after he dropped off a package. But, it was good to know that change was needed.
To sum up, after getting this camera set up just the way I wanted it, I purchased another one for our side door. I could not be happier I stayed with Google cameras for my Google-centric home.
Hi there mwsnelso, thanks for being a Google advocate and we´re glad that you had an easy time setting it up. We´re sorry to hear about your concerns with the security of your Nest Cam (Battery).
Battery life will depend on factors including activity, temperature, and camera settings that you select. You can extend the battery life of your camera by adjusting video quality, length of video clips, time between recorded events, and using activity zones to monitor specific areas. Here are some typical scenarios: - Busy - About 1.5 months battery life (about 20 - 25 recorded events per day) - Typical - About 3 months battery life (about 9 - 12 recorded events per day) - Quiet - About 7 months battery life (about 2 - 4 recorded events per day)
We´re glad to hear that you couldn't be happier with your Nest Cam (Battery). Please keep in mind that our support team is ready to help you with any support needs you may have, if you can reach out to us using this link: https://support.google.com/googlenest/gethelp

Good quality images. I was told they do not work with best aware though, haven't tried yet but I would probably return them if that is the case. Pretty expensive though, I’m sure I could have found a much cheaper outdoor camera that would pair with my nest home system.

Box comes with everything needed for basic setup. Charging cable is on the short side in comparison to wired model.
These are basically the former overpriced Nest IQ cameras newly rebranded. They're a good deal now at 1/4th of what they used to cost but heavily dependent on Google services. These WILL NOT work with the legacy Nest App and must be setup via the Google Home App; local home network MUST be online able to access Google servers — you cannot log on to them directly locally. These are essentially fully dependent on remote proprietary Google software and associated services so will likely become expensive paperweights (like Stadia Controllers) if Google ever suddenly feels like killing the 'Nest' service.
Hi MrPen, thanks for sharing your insights with us on Nest Cam (Battery). We're sorry to hear that the Google Nest ecosystem, including the Google Home app fell short of meeting your expectations.
Our goal for the launching of the new generation of Nest cameras is to make the Google Home app the one place where you can control all your favorite Nest devices and other smart home devices with the Google Assistant. Here are some benefits you can get by using the Google Home app with your Nest Cam (Indoor, Wired): - Automatic security protections such as Suspicious activity detection, 2-Step Verification and Security Checkup. - Your Google Nest devices and services will work together. For example, if you have a Nest Cam and a Nest Hub, just say, ""Hey Google, show me the backyard camera” to cast your camera stream to your display without any additional setup. - One account to sign into both the Nest and Google Home apps. - Your homes and home members will be aligned across the Nest and Google Home apps.
If you´re willing to try, you may set up your older Nest cameras to the Google Home app. Here´s a guide that you can follow to set up your Nest cameras on the Google Home app: https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/9893532

This is a HUGE upgrade from the last Camera system I installed at my house. Very easy to set up, Very easy to connect to my smart home, easy to install. I was worried about having a magnet only holding the camera in place but it makes it SOOOOO easy to adjust.
I can view camera on nest hub or in google app on phone. It has a very clear picture, alerts me to anything near my home.
I am hoping to get more soon

This camera is great. Easy to install, but the cable provided was SO SHORT! A longer one should be available. I had to spend another $40 for a proper plug, this the four stars. Also, this only works in the Google Home app. I wish it also worked in Nest app because I have two older cameras. Otherwise a great camera and great resolution.
One other thing is when I go back through video, there is often gaps of when the video doesn’t record. I don’t know if it’s my internet or the camera. I wish it was continuous video though.
Hi there, Mhrl. We appreciate you for sharing your review on the Nest Cam (battery). We're sorry to hear that your experience with using the provided cables for the device was less than ideal. We're constantly working to enhance the Google Home app and improve the performance of the app and how it integrates with your devices. Quite impressed with overall ease and smoothness of the setup and installation. Previously purchased the wired version and had a requirement to add these in an area without direct power. Works easily with the strength of your WiFi. If it’s strong you can go further out. Add a solar charger and you’ll have everything you need. For complete setup and no need to take down to charge. I have had one installed for 3 weeks without a solar panel and it’s still at 70%.

Overall the cameras are good. Easy to setup but the battery use can be a tough one. Had to turn off sound and mic items. Once I did that it is more reasonable. Takes 4-5 hours to charge this units but wireless setup is a breeze.

They are pretty nice the night vision is great very clear the daytime is clear the only complaints is the batteries dies pretty quickly if there are alot of events they are best to be plugged in permanently.
Hi there Gamingmouse, thanks for reaching out to us. We apologize for the short battery life you are experiencing with your Nest Cam (Battery). It's important to check factors such as activity, temperature, and camera settings that you select for your Nest camera. You can extend the battery life by adjusting video quality, length of video clips, time between recorded events, and using activity zones to monitor specific areas. Here are some typical scenarios for your Nest Cam (Battery): Busy: About 1.5 months battery life (about 20 - 25 recorded events per day) Typical: About 3 months battery life (about 9 - 12 recorded events per day) Quiet: About 7 months battery life (about 2 - 4 recorded events per day)
We also recommend checking the frequency of events that your Nest camera gets in a day. If the short battery life isn´t related to the frequency of events, then we may need to have a closer look at your device and understand what may be causing it. We'd be happy to help check the shorter battery life for your Nest Cam (Battery) by reaching out to our support team here: https://support.google.com/googlenest/gethelp

Super easy to setup. Perfect for places where you can't run wires. But they only record when they sense motion or you turn on live mode. Battery life is decent, worse in cold of course.

Your feedback on recording video history is appreciated and rest assured we'll relay this to the right team for future improvements. UTTER GARBAGE DON’T WASTE YOUR MONEY!!!!!!

UTTER GARBAGE! I have the entire house attached with google mini’s, the kitchen display, chrome, nest thermostats, and a nest doorbell. Needed to add a security camera into the mix, so I go to Best Buy and get this gem of a paperweight. Best Buy is awesome, they have NO fault in this, other than trusting Google like we do, to deliver a quality product.
Their products are already overpriced IMO, but I like the Nest Aware and it’s a good looking product. Nest Aware holds your video for 60 days and there are a lot of neat AI things.
I know by itself it only records THREE HOURS! Which is stupid because if someone breaks into your car at night…. 3 hours has gone and your overpriced camera is worthless. What the heck is the point of even having a camera then? So you got an event, but don’t know anything and google shares go up? I can’t stay up 24 hours a day waiting to see if something happens within that window!!!!! Am I just suppose tell the cops… LOOK THERE’S AN EVENT!!!! SEEE!!!!
No big deal… have the Nest Aware, all’s good. Nest Aware holds 60 days worth of material. I know that it won’t record 24/7 because I’m not plugging it in, that’s kinda THE ENTIRE POINT behind the name “Nest Cam BATTERY!” (And that cable is sold separately and it’s cheap)
They just want you to purchase the service. I get it….
Synced to Google Home, everything looks good. Climb the ladder, drill through the house, position it just right… Stand back in marvel at my work, and the quality of the video. The camera automatically syncs with Nest Aware. Get an event today, cool! I check no worries. I look back once I get home, and BOOM this event has expired.
So I contact Google via chat and I’m told, not only can you not record more than 3 hours if it’s not plugged in (outdoor plug sold separately) it won’t connect to the Nest Aware account!!!!!!
Why the heck did they create this piece of garbage???? 3 hours? For as much as it cost, I could hire someone to sit outside and sketch what’s happening.
Thanks for disappointing us yet again google. I should have learned better honestly, MY FAULT. The Hello is SO slow that they deliver packages, get back in the truck and is probably back to their warehouse before it even notifies you. Again… Why????
And oh yeah… I conveniently trusted Google to make a good product, and placed it NO where close to where I can even wire the paper weight.
Hi Scott, we appreciate you for letting us know of your experience with the Nest Cam (Battery) and we’re sorry that it’s a disappointment for you.
Nest Cam battery is the first battery camera created at Google Nest which features full on device machine learning which can detect pets, vehicles, people, faces and packages all without any cloud processing, and unlike the previous versions of Nest cameras, all the new cameras come with free 3 hour event-based video history. Previously, event-based recording required cameras to stream video to the cloud continuously while active for event detection algorithms to process the video. With onboard machine learning detection and sensors, event-based recording will begin when the sensor detects activity, and you can receive camera alerts as long as you're signed into the app.
While the Nest Cam (battery) must be connected to a power source to have 24/7 video history, If your camera is battery powered, it should still have event video history which will be deleted on a rolling basis after a certain number of days depending on which Nest Aware subscription that you have. But if you’ve set your camera to record and save specific kinds of events in its video history, your camera will detect and process any important activity that it detects, and will only save footage of events that you’ve enabled to the cloud.
Also, you can choose to receive notifications for everything your camera detects, or choose notifications for only certain types of activity. If you’ve turned on critical alerts, you should receive some push notifications even when your phone is set to Do Not Disturb. You can create Activity Zones to cover areas in your camera’s view that you care about, and choose the type of motion you want to be notified of for each zone. You might have to move your camera, change your camera’s angle, or change something in the scene so that you don’t miss important activity. Here’s more information about notification settings you can change for your camera: https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/9210305
