Overall this is a very good camera. It's picture quality is better than many in the price range and is fairly easy to set up. The only issue I have with it, is it does not work with the Nest app. It only works with the Google Home app. I believe Google is doing away with the Net app in the future, but as of now I'd prefer to have all my Nest products in the Nest app and link it to Google home app as I did with my doorbell and thermostat. Other than this inconvenience it is a good camera overall.
Hi there, SomeguyinTX! We're glad to hear that Nest Cam (Battery) has worked well for you. We're sorry for any inconvenience you may be having with the move to Google Home app for the new generation of Nest cameras.
We understand that you have long enjoyed viewing your Google Nest devices from the Nest app. We wanted to make the Google Home app as the one place you can control all your favorite Google Nest and other smart home devices with the Google Assistant. We also wanted to create an integrated experience where you can control your Nest thermostats with other Google Nest speakers and displays.
For any other support needs you have with your Nest cameras, please feel free to contact our support team via the Google Nest help page: https://support.google.com/googlenest/gethelp

Not going to lie, these have come in handy. We've been able to catch people in our community letting their dogs poop in our yard and notify them they were caught. Plus we feel a lot safer knowing we can see what's going on in and around our home.

I already have 4 of the original google nest cams, so I went to try this one to see if the complaints were valid or just people angry with the new system.
Well, some of the complaints are just people angry, a good number of them are actually valid.
1. The camera, when plugged in does have 24/7 history. Problem is the scrubbing function does not work so if someone sneaks into view and an event is not triggered, you will scrub right past it and never know.
2. You can't save clips outside of detected events. This is a huge no no and why google thought it was a good idea to release this without that function beats me.
3. While it does force you to use the google home app and I am used to the google home app, their layout of it and lack of instructions make it difficult for people that may not have the knowledge of googe home. I myself have not figured out how to save even clips either.
4. the lack of an actual length wire and having to buy one from the google store because it is not available instore is another huge no no. If i bought my cam, i would like to set it up the day i bought it, not wait a week for the 30 foot wire. Without the wire, the camera is a downgrade compared to the original cameras.
Google says they are fixing the software issues but in its current state, I could not recommend this to fellow customers. It feels more like an incomplete product then a security home system.
Hi evaunit01berserk, we highly appreciate you sharing the details of your issues with using the Nest Cam (Battery). It’s unfortunate to learn that your experience with the new Nest Cam is less than ideal.
We’re aware that longtime Nest users enjoy viewing their Nest camera feeds from the Nest app and web app, however, our priority with this launch was building a complete experience for our new cameras and doorbell in the Google Home app. We also understand that it could be challenging to use the Google Home app if you haven’t used it before. Here are some steps that may help you about the video history.
To access your camera’s video history: - Open the Home app Google Home app. - On the home screen, select your camera. - Near the bottom of the screen, tap History. To use the Video history controls: - Slide your finger left or right on the timeline to scrub through your camera’s video history. - Tap Pause or Replay on the video window. Learn more about the video history in the Home app here: https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/10904254
The maximum clip length setting for your camera or doorbell will affect how long video clips can be. You can only download video clips from detected events in the video history. Follow the steps below to create and download a video clip:
- Open the Home app. - Select your camera. - Tap History near the bottom of the screen. - Scroll to an event in your camera’s video history timeline. You can also tap Full history for a list of events. - Choose the event you want, then tap Event details. - Near the top of the screen, tap Download download nest app icon to save the video clip to your phone. From there, you can share the video clip via email or social media app.
We care about your experience and your feedback is important to us. If you need any help with your Nest Cam (Battery) and using it effectively in the Google Home app, please feel free to find us here: https://support.google.com/googlenest/gethelp

Great camera quality and easy to connect to Nest/Google Home app. Charge doesn't last as long as I was expecting (~3 months idle) but nonetheless is completely cordless and provides great video output.
Hi DC2SF, thanks for posting a review. We’re sorry to hear that you’re having battery issues with your Nest Cam (battery).
For the battery life, it will depend on factors including activity, temperature, and camera settings that you select. You can extend the battery life of your camera by adjusting video quality, length of video clips, time between recorded events, and using activity zones to monitor specific areas. Here are some typical scenarios: - Busy - About 1.5 months battery life (about 20 - 25 recorded events per day) - Typical - About 3 months battery life (about 9 - 12 recorded events per day) - Quiet - About 7 months battery life (about 2 - 4 recorded events per day)
If you’re willing to try, we recommend checking the frequency of events (per day) that you get with your Nest Cam (Battery). If the short battery life isn’t related to the frequency of events, then we may need to have a closer look at your Nest Cam (Battery) and understand what may be causing it. We’re hoping that you’ll give us another chance to improve your experience. You may contact our support team for further assistance here: https://support.google.com/googlenest/gethelp

I bought this camera as part of my google home setup. The camera has clear picture quality during the day usually but less clear in the evening. Additionally it only records in 30s increments unless it is plugged in. Furthermore, it does require a paid subscription to google at $6 a month or $60 a year if you want it to record anything beyond the last 3 hour time window. All in all a decent camera but there is likely other comparable products on the market that dont charge a monthly fee, this would likely involve having a dvr somewhere in your home instead.

I have purchased a significant amount of Nest Cameras (Indoor and Outdoor) in the past. I have no idea why these cameras have gotten so very large vs what they used to be. It makes for a much more noticeable unit installed. Also does not come with the cord which is an added expense whereas they always came with the unit. I do NOT use these as a battery operated unit only so have to plug them in. Not as happy with these newer outdoor cameras

Easy setup. Easy to configure to your Google Home account. I'm not overly impressed with the with the way Google home does it's video recording. It's not constant recording and the cameras can miss things.

I feel like Google Nest missed the mark on this product.
I get the sense that Nest attempted to make the product easier to use and more versatile for placement by making it (chargeable) battery operated, which I understand.
I owned, installed, and used the previous generation of wired outdoor Nest cam. The install was moderate to difficult for a weekend handyman like me, but in the end, it all worked out and looked amazing.
But, my issues are:
1) I bought the 2 pack (2 cameras), yet there is only 1 short charging wire, with no wire or supplies to hardwire the camera for 24/7 footage. So, you have to purchase (from Google) additional outdoor wires that are long enough to install.
2) you’re asking why I would want to hardwire the camera, right?
First, all reports reaffirm that battery life is short, especially in high traffic areas, so I don’t want to keep charging and worrying when the battery is low.
Second, if you want full functionality of the camera, then it HAS TO BE hardwired. That was the biggest disappointment. Why would Google Nest offer a new product that can’t be fully setup from what is offered in the box. It feels like a money grab, and not a pleasant customer experience.
Hi BestBuyBobby, thanks for sharing the details of your feedback about the Nest Cam (Battery), and we’re sorry to learn it’s a disappointment for you.
Our priority is giving our customers choice and making devices for every home. Nest Cam (battery) has been designed with versatility in mind, it’s an outdoor/indoor battery powered device out of the box, and can be used with a set of various power accessories including two weatherproof cables with power adapter.
Since you only have one charging cable for the 2 pack cameras you bought, we suggest getting in touch with our support team anytime and we’ll figure out a way to help you best, here: https://support.google.com/googlenest/gethelp

Bought more of these while on sale, works great especially if using other google home products. I like that you can keep this plugged in for continuous 24/7 recording (as long as you pay for the plan, which also covers other cameras/nest doorbells). When not plugged in, tends to miss the first few seconds of an event in the history log. Picture quality is fairly good, even at night. Detection zones make it easier to not get notifications for cars passing by on the street.

Nice Indoor/Outdoor cameras. Easy to install with flexible mounting options and plenty of accessories for various mounting ideas. I always run these cameras plugged-in. I never run them on battery mode. However, I'm sure they operate nicely as rechargeable units. Adding a Nest Aware subscription gives you recording and playback options with a basic subscription at $8 per month.

Overall, the cameras have met my expectations. Great visual quality based on camera feed(s), extremely easy to install and position for optimal viewing coverage. Very satisfied with overall operability and use.
Only downside, but manageable, is that the added cameras only work on the Google Home Network when added to an existing operable Nest Doorbell Camera operating system. But, as mentioned earlier, completely manageable through the Google Home networking system.

Cameras work great. Nice clear picture and simple to install. The only thing about wireless cameras is that you have to charge them about once a week at the earliest and once every three weeks at the latest.
Hi Lucy, thanks for giving us feedback about using the Nest Cam (battery), and we're sorry to hear that your experience with its battery life isn’t ideal.
Battery life will depend on factors including activity, temperature, and camera settings that you select. You can extend the battery life of your camera by adjusting video quality, length of video clips, time between recorded events, and using activity zones to monitor specific areas. This link might be helpful: https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/10901611
Here are some typical scenarios. Busy: About 1.5 months battery life (about 20 - 25 recorded events per day) Typical: About 3 months battery life (about 9 - 12 recorded events per day) Quiet: About 7 months battery life (about 2 - 4 recorded events per day)
If you still have to charge the battery more often than you’d like, you might want to consider connecting your camera to a power outlet with the included or optional power adapter. Connecting to continuous power will keep the battery charged. Please note that the power adapter included with the Nest Cam (battery) is not weatherproof and not intended for outdoor use and you can use a compatible weatherproof cable (sold separately).

I love the ease of installing and setting up these cameras. As long as you install the app on your phone you will always get notifications when something crosses into its path. The night vision is great as well.

Bought a 2-pack and have used them for about a year. One of the cameras works ok, but often doesn't pick up motion. The other cam is terrible. The battery takes 2-3 days to charge. Constantly says that it's an incompatible charger, eventhough it's the cable that came with it, and charges the other cam fine. It can't charge while mounted. The battery only lasts about 3-5 days, with no activity. The battery is a serious problem and makes the purchase unusable.
Hello there, Allen. We appreciate the feedback you shared about the Nest Cam (battery). We’re sorry to learn that your experience, with the motion detection and battery life, is less than ideal.
It may be helpful to adjust the wake-up sensitivity of your camera to decide when to wake up and start recording. If the wake-up sensitivity is low: - It decreases the range at which the camera can sense activity. - It increases the amount of time it takes for the camera to wake up once it senses activity.
Here's how to adjust the wake-up sensitivity in your camera settings: - Open the Home app. - Touch and hold your device's tile. - Tap Settings > Video > Wake-up sensitivity. - Choose the High setting.
We’d like to investigate why the battery life is significantly lower than expected so we can help improve your experience. Please get in touch with us through our contact channels found here: https://support.google.com/googlenest/gethelp

When I purchased my house 2 years ago, there was a Nest outdoor camera in place. When it didn't cover the front door as well as I would have liked, I added a Nest doorbell camera. Now I wanted to add a camera for the back door. I went with Nest to integrate all my cameras and have it under the same security system. Going with the wireless model may have been short-sighted on my part. The camera was easy to install. It literally took less than 10 minutes. Granted I'm still adjusting the settings, but it doesn't seem to cover as much from a video standpoint as the other cameras. This is perhaps due to the battery power and the need to conserve. (I may add a weather proof cable if I can't get the settings to my satisfaction.)
Thanks for sharing your thoughts with us, aees. We get that moving from the Nest app to the Google Home app might take a little getting used to, but we want to make it as easy as possible. The Google Home app lets you connect and control all sorts of devices, like speakers, cameras, thermostats, and lights, all in one place.
