I purchased it at the end of June and installed it in July 3rd I think, and my electric bill has gone up more than 50% in June over the month of July and 45% more in month of August. I thought the first month might have been a learning curve, so I gave it another full month to see what would happen. I am uninstalling it and wanting to return it, however BestBuy says I am past my 45 day window and can't help me at all with an exchange or credit. So not only am I out $200+ dollars for the Unit, also out an extra $150+ for my energy bill. Needless to say , I am not a happy customer at all.

Nest Learning Thermostats are designed to help save you energy while making your home comfortable enough. However, if you're using a heat pump system and your heating system isn't heating fast or warm enough, you may change the heat pump balance feature and adjust the heating according to your needs. This feature combines your heat pump and auxiliary (AUX) heating to achieve your heating requirements. Heat Pump Balance lets you select a level of comfort and savings that you like: more comfort, more savings, or a balance between the two. You can choose between Max Comfort, Max Savings, Balanced or Off. Choosing Max Comfort will help you reach the heating target temperature faster. Keep in mind that using this setting will incur additional cost since it will be using both your heat pump and auxiliary heating. While you can control and manage the thermostat settings using the app even when you’re not at home as long as your thermostat and Home app (phone or tablet) are both online, the Nest thermostat will show offline in the app if it’s not connected to your Wi-Fi, and you won’t be able to manage the thermostat settings using your phone or app. However, you can change the behavior of your Google Nest thermostat in its settings using the thermostat display.
