It is the best thermostat out there I am convinced. Do you really need it? Probably not you know when you are using too much energy but this helps you see it visually and making meaningful changes instead of ballparking.

I purchased a 3rd generation open box from eBay.The unit had a bad WiFi chip and bad battery.In fairness the seller did offer free returns.I choose to contact google for the warranty repair.The replacement they sent me had a bad battery and would not function properly.I’m currently on my 3rd nest unit,so far so good.Googles customer service was responsive but I have been struggling with this issue for 3 weeks now.I have a nest 2nd generation which I love which was the reason I choose to buy another.Based on my experience l have to say their quality is suspect at this point.

It is so frustrating; my Nest (3rd gen) keeps stopping/delaying in cold whether when you need the heating the most. It takes almost two hours to reach 72F from 65 in the morning. I contacted to tech support, and all they did was rebooting the unit- and of course, that did not solve the problem. I have C vire installed to fix the problem, but it did not help. Still having heater issues because of the thermostat after year. Almost 3 YO technology but they did not have any solution for this. There is no problem with cooling though; it is fine. But with this cost, you would expect a perfect unit. But it is not any better than 50 dollar other brands and waste of money. It is just a cool looking thermostate.

We love to see our Nest "greet" us when we walk by. The customer service department at Nest is excellent. They are there to help you and answer any of your questions. We're saving $$$$$ too ~ Bonus!

It's frustrating that these have a 4.8 rating. I've had 2 thermostats fail after 2 years and getting a warranty replacement through Nest seems to be impossible. It doesn't look like Mass Save offers incentives for these any more - probably because they don't last long enough to justify the cost. Replacing my failed Nests with Ecobees - fingers crossed for better luck. With 3 tstats in our house this is $750 down the drain. Also, if your HVAC systems can power your Nest then great, it's an easy install. But if not , the battery will die unless you run a wire from your equipment, through your walls, and to your tstat. So there may be a hidden cost here. Being unable to heat your house due to a dead tstat battery is a bad problem.

We have two of these now, one for downstairs and one for upstairs. It definitely saves us money.

Very convenient. Love that it has a reminder to change the filter on the thermostat and on the app.

This has been one of the best home items we have installed. We can keep the kids from messing with the settings and we get to save money by keeping the house within our comfort guidelines.

Buy this item. There is no reason not to, you can get rebates from almost any energy company, and it will pay for itself with how much it saves you in basically one year.

Most important thing to consider- check your thermostat wiring to confirm how many wires you have (typically 4 or 5). If you do not have a 'common' 5th wire to constantly feed power, the battery will die and no longer take a charge after about 1 year. It claims it will, but not the case; MANY will confirm this. I even tried swapping the battery, but had the same issue of it dying and no longer turning on my furnace. If you have 5 wires, it will constantly feed the power it needs and you should be good. They even have special "add-a-wire" kits to easily convert it to a 5-wire system. I highly recommend you get a 5th wire ran before setting up. Other than this common problem, it's a great product.

Definitely something I didn't need but it is a nice luxury

I purchased this when it was on sale for $200 and with a total rebate of $150. $50 for this device is definitely worth the upgrade even if you don't use any of the "smart" features to be able to turn it off if you forgot to turn it off before leaving your home is worth $50.

Was skeptical about buying this due to the 50/50 reviews, but so far so good. Have yet to receive our first bill so we'll see how it does this winter.

Thermostat is quickly learning patterns when we change temperature. It already started changing temps for us. Only in use a couple of weeks so I don't know about energy saving yet but looks good. Installation wasn't bad but be sure to follow instructions on verifying your current wiring is compatible at their web site before opening the box.
