Not smart, more like a dumb thermostat

First off my house is only 3 years old. It's all electric to. The first time, I hooked it up as the website said but I wanted to call call nest to make sure it was right. The guy said, no. You need to hook it up like this, so I did. Well it was constantly running off of aux heat instead of regular heat and I had it set for Max savings on the heat pump balance. Running on aux heat will cost you 2-5 times more money. So I called nest again. Talked to a different guy and he told me to hook it up a different way than the website and different from what the first guy said. After I got off the phone, I realized it's still running on that aux heat. So I hooked it up like the website said to do it and set it on 73 and went to bed. Got up today and checked the thermostat and it was 63 in the house with the heat going. So, I don't know. Already hooked my old dumb thermostat back up and within 30 minutes, I am back up to 73. Think the best support team needs more training.

Beware the 2-Year Mark

When I first purchased this thermostat I had heard whispers about them having a habit of losing connectivity shortly after the two year warranty, but shrugged it off. Sure enough, after a little more than two years it started displaying that it wasn't connected to Wifi. Not only can't it connect, it doesn't even recognize the presence of our Google mesh Wifi every device in the house is connected to. And a search on the issue reveals it's a VERY pervasive issue with these thermostats!
Great with shelling out a couple hundred bucks for a new device, jump in! Otherwise consider other smart thermostat models.

Hi JasonW, thanks for taking the time to share your feedback. We are sorry to hear that Nest Thermostat isn't connecting to your network anymore.
Some wireless access points cause the Nest thermostat’s wifi chip to overheat, which affects the thermostat’s performance.
We value your feedback, and we're always here to do our best to help you enjoy our products and services. We’d also like to learn more about what happened, so we can investigate what’s causing the issue. Hi Antoine,
Thanks for sharing your feedback on Nest Learning Thermostat. We know not being able to control your thermostat can be frustrating, and we'd love to help change that.
Nest Learning Thermostat has features that can enable it to run your thermostat automatically after learning from your thermostat use. It can create temperature schedules and run the temperature by itself with its Auto-Schedule feature but you can turn it off to have complete control over your Nest Thermostat.

This is the second one I have had. After hours on the phone with their service they finally decided to ship me a new one; which took several days. They could have overnight expressed it, but didn't. I live in Minnesota where it was below zero. Now with the second one I have been on the phone with service several times. So far this week even though the schedule was set for 65 the temp. was 95. Today, it was set for 65 and it was 55. It takes 30 minutes to get to speak with someone, and when that person can't fix it I get on hold for a senior member. That took 30 minutes. Then I was on the phone for an hour with that person. I explained over and over all I want is for it to be 67 from 8A to 8PM Monday through Friday and save energy between 8PM and 8AM. Is that too much to ask?

You would think that Google Nest is the best smart home device out there. That is what I thought too. If you only buy one google smart device, you might be fine. But, I got a smart Thermostat and the Nest Lock. Since all have to be on the same Nest App, there is NO way you can add them both on the same home panel. First device gets added but the second NEVER. AVOID Nest products if you want more than ONE device

Its been 2-1/2?” Years of drama, wasted money, and headsches. Ive been though twovof them and pay to have them installed now I’m paying again to have another thermostat installed. Plus the purchase of another thermostat to stay away from this and use that old style with no Wi-Fi because they are all garbage.
