Beautiful hardware ruined by awful Google Home app

I really wanted to love these new Nest products. Sadly though, the nice hardware is let down by a few bad software features, and one terrible decision. - these new cameras are managed through the Google Home app, not the Nest app. The Home app is horrible and cluttered to use. I really don't understand why Google is moving its product to use this app - importantly, this also, means you cannot view your videos, or manage these devices through a browser - only through the Home app - there is not way to set notification schedules - to get notifications when there is motion during the night, but not during the day, for example. every other product I've tried offers this feature. without it the product is mostly useless as you either get nonstop notifications, or none at all. - there is no easy way to share clips with people - you have to download them to your mobile device then either post them somewhere or share them in a message - super annoying. - this thing is surprisingly massive! check the dimensions before you purchase

Bright lights can delay or prevent the camera from switching to Night Vision. We suggest installing the wedge to angle your doorbell away from bright lights, or to install the doorbell in a shady spot. You should also make sure that any nearby surfaces or objects (like a wall) are out of view, since the doorbell’s infrared light can reflect off a surface.

The issue is the google software, I wish google use the previous nest software and expand it. Also, the camera doesn't record constantly even though it's wirely connected.

The battery life will depend on factors including activity, temperature, and doorbell/camera settings that you select. You can extend the battery life of your camera by adjusting video quality, length of video clips, time between recorded events, and using activity zones to monitor specific areas. The new Nest Doorbell (Battery) is a bit bigger compared to the previous generation of the Nest Doorbell model, since we had to accommodate the battery into the structure. Also, a locking mechanism holds your Nest Doorbell (Battery) in place with either the base plate or the 20° wedge. If you still find the locking mechanism insufficient, you may want to check with BestBuy for availability of 3rd-party anti-theft mounting brackets. We also recommend hard-wiring your Nest Doorbell (Battery) if you prefer continuous charging.

Busy: About 1 month battery life (About 25 - 30 recorded events per day)
Typical: About 2.5 months battery life (About 13 - 16 recorded events per day)
Quiet: About 6 months battery life (about 2 - 5 recorded events per day)

Battery is pretty awesome

The battery lasts about a month and takes a few hours to charge. It notifies me when it's a week away from dying. Super easy to plug in and charge back up. Worth it.

Here are some recommended troubleshooting steps that may help improve your overall experience with the doorbell:
- If you have a lot of open apps on your phone, they can slow down its overall performance. Try closing some apps, including the Home app, and then re-open only the app you need to view your video.
- If that doesn’t work, you can try restarting your phone or device you’re watching with.
- check your network as your camera’s video can also be delayed by a slow network connection.
- Other devices in your home may be using a lot of bandwidth. You can temporarily stop a device’s bandwidth use manually by quitting an app or program, disconnecting it from Wi-Fi or ethernet, or by turning it off.
- The video can be delayed if your camera, phone, tablet or computer is connected to a Wi-Fi extender, which adds extra relay time to any device that’s using it. In this case, connect your camera directly to your Wi-Fi router to help reduce the delay.

Perfect for our needs

We already have a Nest Camera and decided that the Nest Doorbell Battery was the best option since we also do not currently have a wired Doorbell.

Ordered an excellent mount off of Amazon for an I drill placement. So far haven’t had to recharge it yet. That all depends on usage.
