    Mixed feelings

My one star is harsh but it is based on my intended use for the Karma Grip and how well it performed during that use. I bought the Grip mainly to use on my Can-Am Spyder motorcycle. The Grip did provide well stabilized videos and it was easy to use. But the flaw I experienced was a horizon tilt after I turned - the camera tilted to compensated for the turning motion but FAILED to return to horizontal afterwards. I contacted GoPro Support and they wrote, "After doing some research with the Karma Grip team we are unable to guarantee results when using the Karma Grip on a moving vehicle...Please keep in mind, based off the gauges in the video, we can identify the camera reaches speeds of over 45mph...This does put a lot of stress on the stabilizer motors and may cause tilt." [Note: The horizon tilt also occurred at slow speeds.] If you're considering buying the Karma Grip for use on a moving vehicle, I hope my review will help your buying decision. Based on GoPro's marketing, I thought I would get better performance from the Karma Grip. Do I recommend the Karma Grip? That depends on your intended purpose.

I haven't used other GoPro stabilizers beside the Karma so my experience is limited. I picked the Karma Grip over the competition because I didn't want to worry about compatibility issues with third party products and it seems more durable. Another reason is that while in use the stabilizer charges the GoPro which is good because I didn't want to have to worry about charging two separate batteries. Another thing is that I don't have to buy more batteries for my GoPro. With moderate use (turning Karma on and off with sporadic recording), the GoPro and Karma battery will last the whole day. With heavy use (recording continuously for a few minutes at a time with the Karma powered on while not recording), the battery will last about four hours. The gimbal works well and my videos are silky smooth and much more bearable to watch compared to just holding the GoPro or mounting it on my helmet. A problem I noticed is that when I walk straight, make a 90 degree turn, and then walk straight again the gimbal will not straighten up and will remain slightly turned to the right. It may not be noticed when viewing though. Another issue which I'm not sure has been resolved is that if the memory card is atleast 50% full, the Karma grip is not easily usable. When powered on the GoPro will be stuck at the "usb connected" screen and be unusable. A work around is to just push the record button instead of the power button to film, but once you stopped recording the screen will switch to the "usb connected" screen; It is really annoying. Overall, I still like it because video footage are much more usable.

I like this gimble a lot, it does what it's supposed to do with minimal ease. If you're looking to travel around a lot with a GoPro this is a must buy. Pros: Videos come out super smooth when in use. Comes with a case which I stuff all my GoPro accessories I use. It's quiet, the GoPro picks up minimal sound of the machine. It'll charge your actual GoPro when turned on. Cons (only reason I marked it a star): Slightly heavy. Steep price. Cannot change battery.

We purchased this for our trip to France, and the U.K., because when we went last year, we noticed our GoPro footage was unsteady while we walked. We knew that this time, we wanted something that would stabilize our footage through our European adventures. Pros: It did a great job stabilizing our footage. BUT, there are several cons, and I feel the cons outweigh the pros. CONS The case looks like a mini coffin, and bulky to put in my bag. The grip takes SEVERAL hours to reach full charge, when it only gives you three hours of charge. It charges your GoPro, even when you don't want it to, or even when your GoPro is at full charge (it keeps your GoPro at full charge). It's heavy It's not waterproof or water resistant Takes its own charger and it's really short (inconvenient) When I want direct into a certain direction, the gimble has a mind of its own.

Amazing stabilizer for my GoPro Hero 5

I bought a GoPro Hero 5 and shot some videos by holding the camera in-hand and using 3-way extendable arm. I tried to keep the camera as stable as possible in both cases however because the camera is so small, it's hard to keep it stable. I found output from many videos to be quite shaky and in some cases, nausea inducing. I knew right away that I'd eventually need a stabilizer. After reading reviews on several different brands, I ended up going with Karma Grip. Now all GoPro videos shot using Karma grip looked buttery smooth and near cinema quality with no noticeable motor noise. This stabilizer works incredibly well and is super easy to use. The build quality surpasses all other handheld stabilizers I handled in person in stores. I did encounter couple minor flaws: (1) You cannot remove the battery which means once the battery runs out, there is no other option but to charge it; not exactly possible if you are shooting videos while out and about. (2) There is no wireless remote operation available for the grip. The best you can do is purchase (yet another) $100! accessory that provides wired remote control functionality. (3) Sometimes when I turn on my Hero5 from the grip, the camera takes 5-10 seconds to turn on. This can be unacceptable if you are trying to capture a key moment in a rush. Other than these issues, this stabilizer is one of those must-have accessories for your Hero5 Black.

I used to own the GoPro Hero3 and taking video while walking or running on a hike is tough. The video comes out bouncy and would make anyone sick. I was skeptical at first about buying this because it was rather pricey, but it is worth it! I had a trip coming up to Japan and wanted to capture my trip without capturing shaky videos. I mean it's a once in a life time trip, but after going I definitely plan on going back! It even works as a backup battery, which is great, although the moment you use it, it begins charging your camera. So your camera is basically at 100% the whole time and the karma grip ends up dying before your GoPro, which becomes useless unless you switch it over to a different handheld monogrip or just hold the camera by hand which I ended up doing. I do recommend buying an external battery to charge your karma grip for when you are not using it during the trip or on the road, I tried keeping it charged anytime I wasn't using it so that when I needed it, it was ready to go. I did have some issues, hence giving 4 stars, my GoPro would show USB connected the whole time and would not go away. The karma grip would stabilize but I wouldn't be able to do anything. I tried resetting and recalibrating the grip many times, even tried turning everything off, removing the battery and microSD card from the GoPro but no luck. It happened twice to me, and both times I had to transfer all my data out of my 32GB memory cards to my laptop, delete everything on the MicroSD cards then it would work again. Even though my 32gb was NEVER filled all the way. It would be at like 5-10GB. So I'm not sure if the card was the issue or the camera or the grip. Overall I got amazing footage and am glad I got the karma grip.

Take your GoPro to a new video level with the Karma Grip! Hero 5 Black already has built in image stabilization, but adding the Grip with the gimble just makes the video flow like butter! Great controls with the buttons in the handle. Great battery life, and charges your GoPro while in use.

Best available. I tried a few different models. Easy to set up, use and sync with phone or tablet. GoPro support a major plus. Other models lack of support or Hero5 compatibility were deal breakers for me. Only issues: 1. Not waterproof 2. Short battery life and battery not replaceable. Only solution for extended play is external battery. These 2 issues cost product a star in my opinion.

I managed to pick one of these up when they first came available individually. My first big test for it was a snowboarding trip in Colorado. The grip case fit in my day pack as well as my smaller pack on the mountain. Was really handy to shoot cool vlog style footage on the road and around our hotel as we travelled. Once arriving, we used it on the mountain to shoot footage of each other. I've used a regular gopole in the past on the mountain and the difference was night and day. The gimbal itself has some heft to it making it feel solid in your hand. The included case does a great job of protecting it and is well laid out on the inside. It pairs with the Hero 5 Black great and the controls on the handle work great. There are only a couple of issues I've had with it. It does take quite a while to charge up. Also, I did encounter having the unit tilt a bit when shooting some longer clips when turning back and forth. Hopefully this can be resolved with a firmware update in the future. Overall, I do like the Karma Grip. I'd definitely recommend it.

This works really well. If you have a GoPro and want to have nice steady video and shots this works great. Very well built and fits the Hero 5 perfectly. Just wish it had a joystick to control the axis. Battery life could be better, about 2 hours and I wish you didn't have to take the Hero 5 door off to plug it in the housing. But all in all it's really good.

This is setup PERFECT for the Hero 5 Black. Remove the side cover from the Hero 5 Black, and it plugs directly into the handle. It is balanced perfectly! Hit record from the handle, power from the handle. It will run w/o battery in GoPro (fully powered and controlled from handle) but would run from handle normally... The handle will charge the GoPro while it is on. this could be considered a problem to some because you can't remove the handle battery and put in a new one but you can put in a replacement battery for the GoPro so the fact that the handle will charge the GoPro while it is connected means it will run down the Gimble faster leaving you with a fully charged GoPro and a dead Karma Grip. Super simple to use, great case. I have not tested run time, but seems to be good. Perfectly quite motors... No sound... I like the build. Time will tell (biased on usage) durability... but I think it feels like a build that should last.

great everything - you've all probably heard all the good things about this item - it's exactly what you think it is.. AWESOME. issue #1 - it charges the GoPro battery while it's in use. that means that the stabilizer battery will run out sooner than the GoPro will (counterproductive since the GoPro has a removable battery when it's low or out) issue #2 - i've had to reset my stabilizer three times since i've had it - in order to do that i had to reformat my microSD card. not a great remedy when you're trying to catch "the moment" but you have to wait for the lag-time for the stabilizer AND your GoPro to sync before use. issue #3 - the actual stabilizer isn't waterproof. whether you're novice or professional - i rate this as a 5-star but keep in mind that you'll have to keep it safe and in a secure holding case (it comes with one) every time you use it.

I was skeptical when I purchased the stabilizer, I figured how much could the video improve? I was in for an awesome surprise. The video looks smooth and battery life is decent. No more headaches when watching jarring videos. The handheld control is very simple to operate, facing the camera and shifting from a locking onto a subject or locking and moving the camera's direction is very simple...the touch of a button. The weight and size of the camera is the only issue but in reality for the stability you get it's worth the purchase. The only downside is the recharge time thru the usb cable...it takes for ever which will be a nuisance when on vacation and u need quick turn around time to get back out there. I wish they would include a wall charger for that price but overall a very sturdy well built stabilizer.

I purchased this for a vacation that involved a lot of walking. I just got back and reviewed all the footage and I must admit, I am very surprised with the stabilization that this provided. All of my footage were smooth. On a side note, the battery life is decent and it actually charges the GoPro when attached. The controls are easy to operate.

The Karma grip is the perfect companion to my Hero 5 black. My movies now have the pro look and feel with stabilization that only happens with a quality stabilizing grip like the Karma Grip. Only downside is the long time to charge the grip (6hrs to full from empty), but I do know that a Super Charger will cut that time down. My primary use actually is movies of my toddler. The results so far have been stunning with everyone who has seen my videos using the Hero 5 & Karma grip commenting that they have never seen better home videos of toddlers. My little 18 month old is the perfect moving target for great content and the Hero 5 together with the Karma Grip, which were both purchased from Best Buy are amazing. Highly recommended.

If you are into shooting action footage this gimbal is a must. I do a lot of hiking, trail running, and other various activities which causes my footage to shake. This reduces that shake significantly and makes your film high quality. With this anybody can make a video look great.
