Not what i expected for elderly mom

Purchased phone for senior mom, she wanted to transfer her current minute phone number to jitterbug phone, took about 3 days for number to transfer and before mom could actually use the phone to receive a call. I was surprised that the 5star emergency service cost extra outside of the minutes you sign up for, and there is an upfront activation fee of 35.00 plus tax. The apps are easy to understand, but navigating from one screen to another takes some time to learn and if your buying for someone elderly who doesnt use the internet you will have to use your email account to sign in to the phone. Long process to set up with phone rep but they are very friendly.

    It's Verizon :(

It's a very handy phone and somewhat easy for my dad to use. He still get frustrated with some of the functions but seems to be able to handle the very basic functions. Unfortunately, I was unaware that they used Verizon as their carrier; had I been made aware of that fact I would not have purchased it. I even asked the sales person before I purchased it who the carrier was...the answer was simply GreatCall. Where we live the service is horrible; which is why we had to leave Verizon in the first place after about ten or more years with the company after moving out to Front Royal, VA. Our phones just didn't work very well in our particular area although the coverage map says it would work here. You have to go outside and halfway down the driveway sometimes to get a signal. Which brings us to the second issue; he can't keep the phone charged as it's always searching for a signal. We have invested too much effort & money into it to quit now and dad doesn't handle change very well. Going to a smart phone was a big enough shock for him to begin with. If not for that one issue with the Verizon service it would be a great phone. We just can't rely on it here at the house. We'll stay with it for now until another opportunity with a more reliable carrier comes up.

Nice Big Display but?? too Complex for Senior

I bought this phone for my mom. She learned to use a flip phone when my dad passed away 9 years ago. I thought this large display phone would be a great replacement. But I ended up getting the Flip instead. I think the screens change too easily on the Smart phone display which I think would confuse an older person. also the virtual keyboard might be hard to use especially with the toggling back and forth between letters and numbers. I think the real keyboard on the Flip phone is easier to use.

This cellphone is easy to use. I had trouble finding out where some programs were, but the user guide did help. It is difficult to delete things without consulting the user guide. I am still not sure how to get apps on the phone.

    Jitterbug Smart

While this is marketed as an easy-to-use smartphone for the elderly, I find it more difficult to navigate than my own smart phone. My mother-in-law, thankfully had the assistance of myself and my husband to assist her in navigating the set up, installation and initial use of her Jitterbug. Had we not been here to help, I'm certain she would have returned the phone to the store extremely frustrated. The Pros: Large Icons, Simplified Menu, and 5 Star service (medical assistance that we don't use or pay extra for). Great customer service. The Cons: The selection of ring tones are not loud enough for most seniors who are hard of hearing and the screen is super sensitive. Blocking callers is much more difficult and necessitated a call to customer service to learn how to do this. The usage meter is misleading as we paid for unlimited talk and text but her phone is unaware of this and has her "going over" minutes on the usage meter. (We called customer service and they can't fix this.) Also, they offer limited data (2 g max) which could result in data overage. In my opinion, this unit could benefit from some small changes that would make it even more user friendly and easier to use for the seniors to whom it's marketed.

The interface needs some work. The 5Star button is too easily hit by mistake and it can't be repositioned. You can add/delete home screen shortcuts. The initial setup required a couple of tech support calls. The phone is painfully slow by modern standards. The speaker is weak. The services they offer and price makes it worthy of consideration.

This was purchased for my mother-in-law who just turned 88. I know that the Jitterbug promotes ease of use for the older generation, but not for my mother-in-law. She really could never get the hang of using it and eventually brought it back to Best Buy. Best Buy was kind enough to exchange it for a Jitterbug flip phone.

This phone has large fonts and an large home menu that are supposed to make it easy to use for older or vision impaired users. Basic calling is relatively easy but that's where it ends. Even with the online videos available from the service provider, most other smart phone functions such as texting and sending pictures with text or using the camera are not very intuitive or easy to use. Standard Android phones are a lot easier to use.

Decent Android Smartphone - but no store support

I bought this new android based Jitterbug smartphone for an older person that was previously using a flip phone. This Jitterbug smartphone is decent quality and fairly easy to use but there is no store support for it. Best Buy sells it but they don't assist in set-up, transferring data or porting your current phone #. It was a not a pleasant experience to port the phone # from a previous phone. GreatCall customer service for this Jitterbug smartphone by email and phone was not an easy process. Took over 24 hours to port the phone after many phone calls and emails. The phone does work well but I am not sure about the GreatCall customer service. If Best Buy sells this phone they should provide customer support for the product.

I purchased this unit for my grandmother because she wanted a smartphone. However, it was too complicated for her. She exchanged the smartphone for the flip phone. This phone would probably be fine for anyone who is somewhat tech savvy.

I have never owned anything but a flip phone and I'm having problems learning all of it's capabilities. The battery goes down really fast, even when I'm not using it. It says I'm over my Data limit, and I do not know what data consist of. I am connected to Wi-fi most the time I use the phone. How can I be over my limit?

Easy set up with great call. Would like volume on the phone to be a little louder especially being this phone is designed for use by seniors. So far very satisfied with the product.

My mom's first cell phone. She's 93, and not particularly tech savvy. I spent some time with her and she gets the basic navigating, but the text and voicemail navigation are not 100% intuitive like my iPhone. Mom kept complaining about voicemail not working, but then my sister found there is a volume problem with voicemail playback. Must check out. ***Most disappointing at all is that, though this phone is designed for the elderly, it seems the ring tones are not any louder or attention-grabbing than any normal cell phone. We found only one tone she could hear from across the room, and if her TV's blaring, forget it.. I'd give it 2 1/2 stars.

ultimately we returned it. As simple as the design lokks it is not that intuitive and took several steps to perform several operations. Perhaps it's because my 90 year old mother has had an iPhone for a few years but even I, wgo have had an Android for years found it very counterintuitive. The volume on this particular one was very poor but there was no way to find out if others were better. The speaker did not work. She kept it for 29 days and we really tried to make it work but it was too difficult and the sound issue just made us return it in the end.

When we bought this the staff at Best Buy could not help get us started. We are traveling for several weeks and had hoped to use the phone all over. We are hoping to not get roaming charges. After we got it we heard that Best Buy bought Jitterbug so when we get home to San Diego we plan to go in and get more help. Am able to make calls and use texting but not able to answer yet.
