This recorder lives up to it's name. It is very handy. It's light weight and compact, easy to carry and very user friendly. And most importantly, the sound quality is excellent.

The recorder works like a charm and captures every conversation in a room with great detail. This makes it grreat for recording presentations, and interviews, but not so good with lots of noise in the background. There might be ways to handle that, but since I'm using it to record interviews in quiet places I haven't had to deal with such an issue. One recommendation that I can make is that you should start recording before you actually need to (in order to prevent loosing data) and don't type while its recording (the clicks of the keyboard sound really loud in the recorder which can make any transcription more difficult than needed).

This is really great sound quality for this amount of money. It is easy to use. You can either use the built in microphones or attach a lavalier with a 3.5 mm plug. It provides plug in power. I've used it standalone and next to my DSLR for improved sound. The only downside is one that has been well documented. The build quality is really ok in my view but not great. Even the microphones that are built in feel like plastic that could break in a bag. However, it's not so bad that the thing feels like it will fall apart in your hand. The record button is a little mushy, and the side buttons are a little tricky to press. However, that also means you won't hit the side buttons accidentally.

The zoom H1 is very easy to turn on and off. I think this is critical for its use, because you can grab it and immediately turn it on without missing a beat. It's a tiny bit larger than some of the others but works great at picking up audio at music events.

Pros:
- Small and compact
- Lightweight
- Decent Audio quality for the size
- Take micro SD and included a card
Cons:
- Feels kind of cheap
- No XLR inputs
- Menu could be better
For the price of $99 i was expecting a little bit more in build quality an controls but it works for my needs in trying to record lectures. If you could spare the bulk and money i would probably step up to the H4N.

I do like the recording quality of two microphones as well as it seems to be pretty easy to use the thing I do not enjoy is how easily you can pick up body bynoise from the component when holding it in your hand if you're not completely still you will hear it the microphones so it is best to mount it if the audio is going to be used in video or audio production

I purchased this recorder after purchasing a GoPro Hero 5 session to record video wihen driving in a Polaris Slingshot. The audio in the GoPro is horrible, however recording the audio with this device works great. The record button on this device is large and easy to reach, even with gloves on. The audio is also very easy to sync with the GoPro video during post. The audio and GoPro sync well when the bit rate is set to constant, not dynamic.
Best Buy really needs to sell the accessory kit for this recorder because when recording outside the wind sock is a necessity. When you are outside by default put it on. I also use the low cut filter switch on the back when outside. That also makes a big improvement on audio quality.
I have also started using this recorder with my iPhone and personal computers it works well with all of them.
Over all very pleased with the purchase.

The Zoom H1 is very easy to use and has great audio quality both with the external mics and the line input. I used it to record audio from a DJs receiver. Make sure to use the cutoff filter to prevent distortion when the line input is very loud - I forgot to do this.

I was looking for a free air recorder for our praise team so we could review what we were doing and make adjustments as needed. Put this in a pew up front and started a recording. After recording, transferred file to computer and broke up songs into individual files with the included software. Very happy with the sound quality at this price point! Included software very feature rich, and while not very intuitive, there were plenty of available resources available online to figure it out. I have heard units with a little better audio, but at a much higher price point.

Like the H4 I own, the H1 makes excellent recordings. The H1 doesn't have as many bells and whistles, and is therefore easier to use.
The only drawbacks I've found are that I have not found a way to playback a recording other than the most recent one, and the data, and apparently the formatting, were lost on replacing the battery. Be sure to download recordings to your computer ASAP!

We used several of these over the last year on a web series I worked on and they are great little recorders. Put one in a pocket, run a lav mic under a characters shirt and you're in business. Just remember to turn them on and off appropriately. The slim piece of plastic that protects the mic elements broke in spots on two of them, but they still work. After the season was over, I purchased one of my own to go along with my H4n and this a great low budget sound package I earn money filming events with. This item would be perfectly priced at $79, not the $99 I paid, as you will also need at least a small tripod, micro sd card, windscreen and lav mic. Overall, this is a good addition to any low budget sound kit.

Its a compact recorder. easy to use and the quality or feel of the product is a 4 out 6.
Controls are easy to get to but not as practical as they could be so it takes some practice to get familiar with it.
For a $100 bucks is not a bad product for a starter or normal use.
If you are planning to do video and match the sound, or more professional use, then spend a little more and get the next level up.

The ZOOM H1 Handy Recorder is by far one of the best handheld recording devices that I've ever used. It's utilized in unison with my GoPro 3 +Black Edition. Stereo sound recording, and extremely limited loss on playback. This is the device you want if you're in the market for a Handy Dandy handheld recorder. Super Best Buy!!!!!

I have had experience with the H2 Zoom recorder. The H1 is a smaller version but with the same recording quality. There are fewer settings and options than the larger model but it has the essentials to make good, better and best quality recordings. I use it mostly to record talks. Good for podcasts. The recorder comes with the lite version of WaveLab for both Mac and PC.

Super handy two track (stereo) recorded. I bought it to record my bands practice sessions, but plan to start using it for other purposes as well. Including field recording and capturing audio on my video shoots. "Auto Level" occasional does some weird level jumping, so now I just use "Manual". Really don't have any other complaints. $100 well spent. NOTE: it uses MICRO SD cards to record on. I assumed standard SD and had to make a second trip to the store. I bought a 32Gb card to capture on (only $30), but probably only needed a 16Gb.

This recorder is superior to other lower priced recorders. The menu is easy to use and the built in mic is great. We have a couple of the H5 Zooms for production recording but this one is great for on the go interviews or general information.

This recorder was recommended to me by an expert video guy. It's really simple to use and the sound quality is impressive. For the $100 or whatever it cost, I think it is very much worth it.
