I just blew the last 24 hours trying to get this laptop optimized for general use. I don't game. My expectations were to be able to receive email and to surf web pages. I anticipated I would probably need to upgrade the 4MB ram to 8 or 16, but, I'm not sure anything can help this beast. Occasionally it will dip to a reasonable CPU, but in general it sits about 85%+ when any explorer is launched. Even after uninstalling just about every process that eats CPU, memory and disk, it's still unusable and slow. Perhaps this product is best suited for someone who rarely connects to the internet such as a poet or someone's grandma looking for a better display for playing baccarat. I'm holding out hope that perhaps it was dropped at some point while being delivered to the store and there is inherently an issue with the hardware, but I'm not taking my risk on another "deal" - when I croak I will remember how I could have had an extra day of my life back if not for this laptop.

Despite reading some sketchy reviews here, I decided to take a chance on this laptop. After all, I’m an IT guy and even a former Geek Squad employee with Best Buy many years ago: I can get this to work just for web and email (which is all I needed it for) right? Wrong. The laptop looks nice. It advertises decent battery life that’s realized by using it. It’s light. It has a number pad. But it all goes downhill from there. This is quite possibly the worst tech purchase I’ve ever made, and I don’t say that lightly. I love AMD, I love HP, but this laptop has some serious ghosts in the machine. Oftentimes a reboot would leave you with a black screen and no signs of life, forcing a hard shutdown. Other reboots may take up to a full eight minutes to get to the Windows login screen. The specs of this machine shouldn’t dictate such shoddy performance, but I got way better use out of a 7-year old Core i7 this was replacing. I returned it after two weeks of fighting to make it work at all. It was hopeless. No software updates, optimization tweaks, or anything got this to work for even the most routine tasks. The worst? It took over two hours to install Microsoft Office 2016 on this dog. Avoid at all costs.

I'm really trying to give this laptop a chance but so far it has been unbearable. I have had it for only 2 hours now and the laptop is slowwwwwwww, I'm already planning to return it to BB in the morning. I am not looking for something with high performance as I bought it cheap to be my school laptop for a writing and studying tool. My other laptop is 6 years old and bulky so I needed something more portable, I'm sitting here writing this review with my old laptop because the new one moves at a snail's pace....seriously....I am choosing my OLD laptop over the new one....even for a cheap laptop this thing utterly fails.

I thought for the price of this computer compared to Chromebooks that it would at least be worth while since it is a Microsoft operating system but this computer does not run fast enough to multi task. Sadly web pages load the same speed on my cell phone as they do on this computer. The start up time appears to be instant until you see the "spinner" cursor going for anywhere between 5-8 minutes before you can actually start utilizing the computer once it starts. I would not recommend this computer, the battery life is not great at all (3 hours most) and if you want the battery to last longer you have to sacrifice even more of the speed on this computer. The weight is reasonable but it is still bulky compared to other computers in its class.

I just needed a very simple device to do documents and spreadsheets, check my email, watch some movies on Amazon Prime or Netflix and do rudimentary surfing on the web. I paid $347 for this device and an additional $20 for Microsoft Office. I've seen tortoises that move faster than this machine. When I mentioned how slow this machine was, Brian, the Best Buy Tech Guy, said, DUH, this is our cheapest model! The dude at the Microsoft Windows store was just a tab more professional but he reinforced the fact that I paid bottom dollar for this speed challenged lap top. I've learned to trim my nails and perform all sorts of related personal hygiene functions while waiting for different apps to load. Yessiree, you get what you pay for.

    Not My Best Purchase

One reason I chose this laptop was the tech rep confirmed a number of things for me since I do not know much about hardware. She confirmed it had a 9-hour battery life; it has 3.5 to 4 hours only. She confirmed it would surf the internet faster than the Acer I had that just died or the Lenovo I was using; it for sure does not and sometimes runs as slow as a dial-up service. The keyboard has grey (??) letters and number (not white); so forget trying to read it even though my desk sits right up against a window. Less than 2 months and keys are wearing off. It's also extremely heavy which I did not expect; twice as heavy as the two previous laptops mentioned. But oh well, it is what it is, not my best experience as the tech rep sure sounded like she knew what she was talking about. This was to be a much better computer than the Lenovo or Acer? I'd disagree now that I have been using this for almost two months. At the least not the best for me and golly we discussed what to buy for over an hour's time! Also the virus protection software I just tried to load that came with it actually shares your personal information evidently and you you have to watch a number of viedos to find out how to go through the steps to turn off the shareing of information. That seems to me to do the opposite than what it should do?

I purchased the open box item, so there's the disclaimer. I purchased the laptop and it legit died after two months. I was completing a scholarship essay, and went to revise my document, turned the computer on, and it requested that I install an operating system and to insert the hard drive. I bought it to Geek Squad and the guy was like, "yea it's dead." So I replaced the hard drive and reinstalled windows and three months later it died again. Same issue. I used to have an HP laptop a long time ago and it had the same issue, but it did last years before it died. Never again. V disappointed.

I knew the laptop was not a top of the line laptop. But, I was not prepared for how terribly slow this laptop was. Out of the box and during setup, the slowness was something that I could deal with; however, I shut the laptop down and a few hours later I attempted to use the laptop. After about 30 minutes and still a black screen I had to do a hard shutdown and attempted to restart the laptop. It still took a long time to startup. Once it did, I did a factory reset to remove all of my information from the laptop. This process took 12 hours and the only thing that I had installed on the laptop was Norton. There was no files, no download program, or nothing that "needed to be removed" except my security software, wifi information, and name and this took 12 hours.

The laptop I brought was an impulse buy because I needed on for classes and figured for the price at least it would be able to do the basics you know web browser, have at least two programs open without lagging simple basic stuff however that was no the end result. I suffered through a grueling semester with a slow as snail laptop and in the end brought another one. I was later told that you can upgrade the Ram to improve the quality but I figure let sleeping door rest and pawned that bad boy. Not my fingers hour if I’m being honest

THIS LAPTOP IS TERRIBLE!!! It takes a ridiculous amount of time to start up and load so that you can use it and that is just the beginning. If it wasn't for the fact that I didn't get a chance to use it until after the return period was over, I would have returned it and got a different laptop that was MUCH better! I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PRODUCT AT ALL!!! DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME, ENERGY OR MONEY!

Laptop is slow like chilled molasses. Tech support blamed it on Intel and Microsoft, said there is a fix on the microsoft web site. I never found one. It took overnight to get MS Office installed and access to programs is too slow to be useful for use I bought it for. I think a solid state hard drive might speed it up, don't want to spend more money. The non-upgradable Dell laptop I bought is faster but that won't take the recent upgrades of Windows because it has a 32GB flash memory drive.

The drive is basically junk, it can barely run the OS... I've uninstalled all the bloatware, shut down the windows security, tweaked everything, and the HD is still pretty much at 98-100% so nothing really works. Basically a paperweight. I might be able to do a presentation on it, but that's about it... so I'm selling it with an old printer as a package deal just to get it out of my life.

Granted the computer was inexpensive but the performance is ridiculously slow. Maybe it's this one is defective, I'm not sure but it makes the Sloth in Zootopia look relatively fast, a perfect computer for him. Should have taken it back.

i just purchased this laptop and it is extremely slow. I have not installed anything on the laptop, but I have preformed all the updates. I checked the task manger and with only the browser open it is using 90% of the CPU and 87% of Disk. I installed Norton and ran a scan and everything appears fine. I was not upset until I did some research and found hundreds of others complaining about the exact same thing with their brand new HP laptop. It is definitely going back to HP as soon as they open in the morning and I will purchase another laptop, which will NOT be a HP for sure. never again. Why does Best Buy even sell this piece of CRAP.

Screen flicker, within the first few weeks after being used mainly for work. If I could rate this laptop any lower, I absolutely would. HP obvious doesn't have any QC. Stay far away from this, and possibly anything else HP puts out. This was an impulse buy and I've regretted it ever since. Oh, and it goes without saying that the laptop is atrociously slow. Even without most of the bloatware.

Piece of crap, even though I had to use it. SOOOO slow even after I had an expert disable programs running in the background that were not used. Remember dial-up modems? Yeah, me too, this reminds me of that. My last lenova which is about 7 years old now is way faster and easier to use. Hate windows 10 also, may now switch to Apple.

Even I know it was a cheap buy, but I thought HP is a good company, making decent computers. Did not expect it is so slow, even opening, reading and deleting my emails it took at least one minute to go from one to the other. Wasted so much time, and could not return due to time limit. Regret this buy so very much.

This works great for just regular school work but can be slow because it doesn’t have a intel processor, it has an amd radion or something like that which is really slow. And that WiFi card sucks it can only be used with regular WiFi and 2g WiFi not 5g that was the biggest downside in my opinion.
