Customers consistently note the Envy laptop's large screen and user-friendly interface. Many are pleased with its overall performance, particularly its processor and dedicated graphics card. However, some users find the laptop to be heavy and its keyboard difficult to see due to the silver-on-white color scheme.

I've had a couple of Toshiba Satellite 17.3 inch laptops, and none had up to 1080p full HD support or touchscreen within affordable price range. No finger prints or backlit keyboard. Or SSD. Or up to 12 GB RAM. These are all the features that make me admire my HP Envy laptop.

Great computer for my husband, whose needs include business, personal, and gaming. The i7 1065 chip is fast enough, and we can upgrade the 12 GB Memory if needed. He does play some solo games, and that was why the dedicated graphics card proved worthwhile. I wanted him to get the 512 SSD + Optane so that he would not get too impatient when loading larger apps, He doesn't produce that many files needing to be saved, except for his music catalog.
When he works from home, the laptop's camera and mike are adequate but not great. He chose to add external speakers because he was not thrilled with the sound quality of the speakers. If you watch movies, you do have to play with the video controls more than you should have to with a laptop at this price. There are also not enough USB C ports.
For an HP laptop, the unit feels less "flimsy" than other HP laptops I have seen. (You are talking to a Dell Mobile Workstation Woman here, so everything I use is military-grade.) The 6 lb weight wasn't an issue for him. The unit is attractive and the keyboard seems user friendly. No freezing has taken place as of yet, and the unit doesn't overheat.
He wanted a low maintenance

This is a really nice laptop. Has all the bells and whistles we all have come to like. Lots of USB ports, has a optical drive(most don’t have those anymore) it’s a bit on the heavy side because of that, but I like it better then carrying around an extra portable drive. I like how it folds to become like a tablet and the screen is a touch screen.
If you want everything, and do t mind the extra weight, then check this out!

Overall Great for Everyday Use / Light Gaming

This laptop has a plenty to offer for the price. It is sleek-looking and relatively lightweight for a 17.3" unit. Fits easily on an ALLSOP adjustable laptop stand I bought for better positioning. It is also one of the few laptops left on the market with a built-in optical drive. My only issue was, in fact, a defective optical drive (would not open normally and "grind" as I tried to pull on it) however this was replaced free of charge under HP manufacturer warranty.
Otherwise I have been happy with the purchase. This laptop is fast, boots up very quickly and essentially silent when the fan is not running. Battery life is what you can expect from a large screen unit; not terrible but will drain fairly quickly especially if you leave the screen brightness on a high setting. A more conservative setting under Windows power options will help with this issue.
The 2 GB dedicated graphics and Intel i7 processor allow for casual gaming (I play some older strategy games like Company of Heroes) and the computer is able to run these quite well. I should add that right after purchasing the laptop I upgraded the RAM to a total of 32 GB (it comes with 12 GB). I cannot comment on how this laptop would have handled my games with only the 12 GB of memory; however if gaming or serious multitasking are not your priority I do not see any reason to add RAM right away.
That said, this is not a "gaming laptop" so I would not try to run any new first-person or other graphics-intense games on it. As for everyday use, it is very pleasant with bright and crisp display and a comfortable keyboard. There are multiple USB ports and an HDMI out port to allow connection to a larger monitor. The touch pad is responsive but I prefer a mouse; this laptop has built-in Bluetooth and I added an HP mouse connected through this means with good performance. The WiFi component is also good and had no trouble connecting to my home network.
The Bang & Olufsen speakers sound nice but did not blow me away; of course one should not expect studio-quality sound through any small laptop speakers. If you are heavily into PC music I would recommend a nice set of headphones (such as Bose) or speakers (such as Klipsch). If that is not enough, the AudioQuest DragonFly DAC converter (available from Best Buy) plugs into a USB port and bypasses the computer's sound card for even more enhanced sound quality through headphones or speakers. I've had this particular setup in the past and was very impressed with it.
In summary, this HP Envy is a solid choice if you are looking for a large desktop-replacement laptop PC. I do not do any photo-editing or other such graphics-intensive activities so I will not comment on this laptop's performance in that regard. However, for the everyday user and light gamer I think this laptop is very good.

I'm a developer and although this machine was purchased for my personal use, I could see using it as a development system as well. Which is fairly high praise! Performance has been terrific and handling everything I do so far. While I have complaints about the keyboard (and pretty much all laptop keyboards these days), it doesn't seem to slow me down. Highly recommend.

I used to to a lot of graphics and web site building. Now I am a mere casual user. My last HP laptop was almost 10 years old. Actually, maybe it was over 10 years old. It was on its last leg. I wanted something new, SSD, touchscreen. It was between this and a Dell convertible. Well, I wanted an optical drive because you never know, SO far the SSD does not disappoint. From off to ready to use in a little over 5 seconds. Im very impressed. If this one lasts as long as my last HP, I'll be extremely happy. Only one thing I dont like, is during blank screen situations, you can see some of the edge lights for the screen. Like a halo extending from the frame of the screen. You cant tell when there is content on the screen. Dont know if thats a characteristic of this screen or a defect, but it doesn't really bother me so I didn't pursue any repair.

I have always used 15.6 laptops and was a little skeptical of going to a 17.3 thinking it was going to be bulky. Now I don't think I will ever go back. The speed is great with no lagging will multi tasking. Startup takes about 12 seconds from being powered down. Fingerprint reader works great and allows for quick and easy access. Having a DVD/cd drive is a big plus. Most 15.6 units have eliminated that feature. Touch screen, HDMI out, 3 USB port, C port, SD card reader, backlit key board, SSD drive with 12GB memory - all things that help the functionality of the computer for multi tasking and performance.

I was still using my first lap top purchased 10 years ago and it was running Windows 7. I wanted a larger screen as I use Excel spreadsheets a lot and needed Windows 10 and a lap top that would be easy to use. The HP Envy 17.3 is a touch screen, which I love, it runs so much faster than my old lap top and it took very little adjustment for me. I purchased the Geek Squad support and had them transfer files and set up the lap top. Well worth the cost! This lap top does more things than I probably need but I like the large keys on the keyboard and keyboard touch and ease of use.

Waited a long time for this computer to go on sale. 10th generation I7 with independent video card and SSD and still has a DVD drive. Yes I am one that still uses one and in addition have a lot of files and movies on disc. Too early to tell but so far this is a very fast computer and so far running very smoothly. Hopes are it stays that way well after the warranty. Amazing speed for startup and shutdown. Like any other packaged computer it does come with a lot of software that I will never use. Deleted all the Windows stuff/programs that I will never use. I hate the setup for having to go through the Microsoft account. But after did block all the things in privacy. It is like they want to know every move you make if you say "yes" to all the options. Blocked everything out and hope it works. I am not going to give it a bad score over this one point, It is not as sturdy as my old HP laptop. I am one that does not care about weight, I go for laptop with well built materials instead of plain old plastic. But it appears this is the age of all plastic. The other thing I am not thrilled about is the battery is built in, much like all the others being sold. Just wonder what it is going to cost me in the future if the battery needs replaced. But overall great performance, no problems in the setup and so far things are going smoothly.

This laptop was to replace one that was 6 years old, and wow!
Things I love: TOUCH SCREEN-makes things easier and faster to do, SPEED-lightning fast and tackles everything I do with ease, SIZE-I really like the larger screen, as this is my only computer, USB Ports-I like having a few ports, DVD DRIVE-This was a big factor in my purchase, as I use the DVD drive a lot, ETHERNET PORT-love it for when my wireless acts up
Things I don't love: Nothing yet, it surpasses my expectations!

No matter where I go and what I buy my consumer experiences are very good. Aside from the wish or need fulfillment, these experiences make spending money feel good. The proof is in rare cases the experiences are unnecessarily bad enough I walk.
Then there are those experiences that make you feel like a king. That was precisely the experience I had looking for a replacement laptop at Best Buy, Capital Ave, Raleigh. I made several visits looking, asking questions and handling select laptops. With each visit I whittled the choices, eventually choosing HP 17” Envoy. That choice was the result of Best Buy’s extremely knowledgeable and dedication to an ordinary, run of the mill consumer: me. What makes my praise for the staff - Noah, Jonathan and Darius - is they were this way with everybody. No exceptions.
There are those wonderful consumer experiences you find yourself “orphaned” after the purchase/sale. Not with Best Buy; not the case here. Noah rang me up and continued to help me a few times post-purchase. The FIVE STARS is for the excellence of the experience and the HP Envy 17”. Should have one more star for “Superlative”.
Which brings me to comments about the Envy. I looked at the new Big Mama Mac. Given the price point, my Little Baby Mac emulates Mama well enough, thank you. Lenovo is fine. I nearly chose it. The cost to features, however, weren’t compelling. The audio is pretty good on both the HP and Lenovo. So what pay a fee hundred dollars more? Etc.
In the end, the HP has a large screen to view spreadsheets. documents, email, etc. SSD-Optane drive isn’t bad. DVD (RW) drive built in (there have been times I wished my other laptop had one). Backlit keyboard (grateful). Bang & Olufesen audio (thumbs up). I’ll stop here. You could say it’s a good looking work horse or a work horse that looks darn good. The upshot is you get both at an incredibly good price point compared to the Envy’s competition.

That screen is the reason I got this. For watching youtube videos in 4k the core i7 is the way to go. No buffeting even with my middle of the road internet connections. The images are so clear with the HD screen that it feels like you are there. Quality feels top notch, I think HP really upped its game with this.

Replaced my old laptop with this model. I prefer a large screen laptop. This unit was at a super price and had features I needed. Sweet backlit keyboard with nice feel to type on. Lightning fast operation. Beautiful display and a thin, light weight yet sturdy frame. Only disappointment was the SSD isn’t a 2.5” form factor. I would prefer a 1 Tb storage and now have to use an external drive for more space.

I'm so thoroughly enjoying working on this computer! It is fast, has a long lasting battery and the color is gorgeous! The larger 17.3" screen is helpful in keeping me from having eye strain. I'm just sorry that I didn't buy an HP four years ago before I bought 2 cheap computers with so little memory that I constantly struggled to clean them up to have room to work. HP will be my "go-to" computer company from now on.

I reluctantly gave up my 8-year old HP laptop because it was a speed demon. I bought this one, and OMG! It is also a speed demon. I also LOVE the Touch Sensor (or whatever it is called) that unlocks the screen so you don't have to type in a password. (Had that on my old one and so glad it is on this new one.)
Awesome computer! And, of course Best Buy is awesome, too.
