Lots of Laptop for an affordable price!

I was surprised that a laptop with so many features, decent speed and plenty of storage could be purchased for such an affordable price. I'm not a gamer so after installing my own Office 2007 suite it can keep up with anything I do in my line of work at the same time manages all my personal needs. I did not like the way McAfee soft ware trial auto installed when I registered the computer, which comes with Microsoft Defender installed, McAfee disables Defender and required a special McAfee extractor tool to get Defender back as the default, pain to remove, that's my only reason for not giving a 5 star rating. I recommend you disable and remove the McAfee trail software before registering and allow Defender to do its thing as designed for Windows 10.

    Best Bang For Your Buck!

    Posted .

I'm an IT Manager and constantly get asked by friends and family what type of computer people should buy. I always look for these types of specs found in this laptop, only they typically cost around $500-up, which tends to be too much for people. If you have ever purchased a $200-$250 laptop, you usually find out really quickly that same day why it was so cheap and you wished you had spent just a tad bit more to have a faster computer that you never have to worry about and will last the standard 3-5 years with no issues... This laptop is your answer. Perfect for school & work. Keep in mind that the screen is very large, so it may be a bit too much for some people to carry around. An alternative for this laptop to use a wireless keyboard and mouse and slide it back on your desk and use it as a desktop PC when not on the go. Specs are perfectly fine, no reason to have 8-16GB of RAM. Processor is excellent. 1TB Hard drive is plenty of space. Wireless N is very fast. Overall A+

Great for writing (and any use that is stationary)

This laptop is almost comically massive. I don't even like shifting it around my desk. But I knew that going in. I'm a graduate student, and it's great for intense writing sessions. Full-sized keyboard, nice wrist rest while typing, giant screen makes editing easier... The B&O speakers are pretty good for laptop speakers. That means they're still not great, but better than the tinny sounding garbage you normally get. They seem to be especially good for vocals. I listen to a lot of podcasts and stand-up comedy, they're great for that. Two complaints. One you'll know going in: It has a spinning drive, which slows the computer down. It's not slow, but if you're used to an SSD, it will take some adjusting. From what I've seen, you can replace the drive, but honestly for my usage it doesn't make much sense. The other was unexpected, but not a dealbreaker: The trackpad isn't great. It's kind of jittery. I've played around with the sensitivity and it doesn't seem to help. I'm getting used to it, but there is a bit of a learning curve. You'll need to be patient until you adjust to it. With a laptop of this size, some people will probably just opt to use a wireless mouse with it. That wouldn't be a bad idea. Overall, I'm happy with it for my purposes. If you plan on moving it around a lot, I'm not sure it's the best laptop for you. I move it from home to library, that's pretty much it. It takes up a lot of room in my bag and a ton of room on a table. No laptop this size is designed to be that portable, regardless of the make or model. It's a good compliment to a Chromebook or tablet/keyboard combination. Perfect to keep at a desk without having to worry about a tower and all of those components.

    Good simple laptop

It's a good laptop. Gets the job done. Had a touch screen before this one and never used it. Sometimes the sound will glitch when you are watching a video and the screen will glitch and turn grey when your watching a video real quick then it goes away mostly when you first start the video but my other hp laptop did that as well other then that it's a good laptop. Not sure how long it will last since all my other hp computers didn't last long. I just can't afford a expensive apple computer so I always end up with another hp somehow. Plus I hate the mouse pad on the apple laptops. It's a huge laptop great for movies. I just wish it had a backlit keyboard is all. It's not a slow computer either. It starts up super fast too. Not sure on the updates yet since they keep failing to install it says. I'll have to look into that and see why it's doing that. The CD burner works great too.

    Bought two - super pleased.

On Black Friday, bought one of these for my 81 year old dad, and bought another for myself. It's very helpful having both exactly alike when he has questions or needs assistance. When they first came in, one of the two had a defective keyboard. All I had to do is call, and they had a replacement at my door in just a couple of days! Very pleased with that kind of service! The keyboard has a very good feel and the big monitor is real nice too. I would definitely recommend. Great value for the price.

    Great computer for the money

I bought this computer for my wife. She had been using a 17 inch screen so that was a prime consideration. I also shopped for an i7 chip, but was not able to find a reasonably priced machine with that chip. I knew the i5 chip in this computer was a fast chip and knew the hard drive was more than adequate. I placed the order, delivery was faster than promised and setup was a snap. I hit a home run with this computer. My wife loves it! It is an excellent computer for the price.

    Great laptop

I love my HP laptop that I purchased over the Thanksgiving break and it was on sale. The initial set up was very easy and all the installations thereafter like google chrome, microsoft office, adobe acrobat reader were quick and easy. It does take a little bit more time to start up than my previous (very basic) laptop but after that everything, especially internet, emails etc runs very fast. My daughter is very happy with the new laptop as she can play all the games. The screen has nice resolution, and bright too. I can run 4-5 different things at the same time, no problem. When I read the reviews first, I wasn't sure to buy it. But after I bought it, I was really amazed the way it works and I am very happy with the purchase.

So much perfection crammed into such a perfect size computer (laptop). I am thinking of purchasing an identical one, good things are hard to come by and should not be passed up

    A Great Buy!

I was a little leery because I couldn't understand why this laptop was priced so low. I did research and read reviews on multiple sites. I went down to my local Best Buy (on Black Friday!) to see it in person. They didn’t have the exact model but one very similar. It is fast, sleek and has the latest version of everything EXCEPT Microsoft Office. I probably wouldn't have bought it at the time if I knew this because I was finishing up a semester and needed it for school. I ended up using the trial version of office which worked the same and was easy to set-up (without a credit card!) Now that I’m done, I don’t use Office much. Great camera/video recorder, loads quickly, large screen and doesn't take long to charge. Everything works so well!

    Upgraded my laptop

I needed a new laptop since my last one is 6 years old. I got my bachelor's degree with my Dell and wanted to upgrade to something better, faster, & bigger while working on my master's. So far the HP has lived up to everything it says. I have had HP desktops in the past but never a laptop. I like windows 10. The laptop itself is lightweight & sleek.

    Great overall laptop.

Was looking for my first laptop and saw this on sale for 349.99 so i took a chance. I've had it for about a month and half. I love it so far. I've been able to install itunes and play my music, i have a gopro session and it works great with gopro studios software to edit my videos. I play simple games like rollar coaster tycoon and candy crush. I have a wireless mouse cause the touch pad mouse would get annoying and my hand would hurt after a few minutes my only complaint so far. I'd say for simple video editing, music, photos, games and Internet browsing its a must buy for under 400. Great deal.

    More flaws than anticipated

    Posted .

This computer is nicely put together with the style and design. I love the high quality audio. Unfortunately it's not mentioned, but it is the B&O edition so the sound is very nice. Pros: -Sleek design -HD resolution -Personalization -Pretty fast Cons: -Difficult to set up -Windows 10 has some major flaws Overall: I feel that you get what you pay for. I was looking for a decent, cheap laptop, therefore I did not have expectations of a MacBook, but so far it has met my expectations. I feel it's a nice computer for school and leisure activities.

Perfect for Grandson, Senior in high school.

    Posted .

Grandson is a pretty busy Senior in high school. He is not only Executive Officer of his USMC ROTC Battalion, taking some college college classes, shows his cattle, he also works part-time at vet clinic. So he needed a dependable laptop with larger screen, with adequate memory. I reviewed several laptops before settling on this one. He immediately liked the it and feels comfortable with it. He is into a learning curve with the Windows 10. So far so good....no issues. I got him Geek Squad protection in event he does encounter problems while away at college later this coming year 2016.

    My New HP Pavilion

    |
    Posted .

Bought 2 new HP Pavilion (for me and my cousin). Considering it is lightweight (at least for me) plus the fact that there's a number keypad instead of just the regular keyboard without the keypad, I like it. I failed to notice that there is no port for any memory cards to download any photos. So far, I am satisfied. I am not a big fan of Windows Edge.

    Good basic computer

    |
    Posted .

Computer is a good basic laptop for most usage. The touchpad operation could be better: usage of multiple fingers to execute right clicks takes some getting used to. Windows 10 operating system is similar to Windows 7 for ease of use. However, the setup of the computer doesn't allow ease of use for dual boot configurations. It is possible to boot into another OS, but the user has to go through the UEFI configuration in order to get to the other OS, and that necessitates first booting into Windows.

Great Deal for 17" i5 Laptop - *No Access Panel!*

    Posted .

I want to start by saying that I do NOT typically write reviews, because it is not often that my schedule allows it. However, after spending time with this laptop, and not seeing anyone else talk about it in their reviews, I felt morally compelled to explain this laptop's one MAJOR hindrance: There is no "Access Panel" on the bottom of the laptop to easily reach some of the major components. This shouldn't be a problem for the average user that has no plans to repair or upgrade the laptop themselves and only have an authorized technician (such as those at Geek Squad) do this type of work. That said, if you do plan on adding a RAM module (there are two slots) or accessing the hard drive, you have something like 20 screws and also plastic clips holding the two-piece bottom case assembly together. I HIGHLY recommend you have a Geek (or other authorized technician) do this type of work. PROS: -Large 17" Screen -Intel i5 Processor (older generation, but still a great deal for an i5) -Sleek and light-weight design -Inexpensive (Especially if you purchase it during a sale*) -Nice space around the number keypad -Windows 10 is already installed CONS: -No Access Panel (see above) -No back-light on keyboard -No dedicated graphics card (probably a deal-breaker if you're a gamer) -No physical button to turn the TrackPad off while typing... At least I haven't found any simple way to do this (and I have been looking!) If anyone reading this knows of a physical button to push on this specific laptop model, please let me know, because it is very annoying! Overall, this laptop is a great deal if you are set on having a large screen, on a budget, and ONLY plan on having the laptop professionally serviced.
