Beautiful, But Thinner Is Not Always Better

I'll start off by saying that this laptop is an absolute work of art. The aluminum construction along with the brown and gold colors are truly eye-catching. The machine is incredibly light and thin, leaving you amazed at just how HP was able to pack such powerful hardware into such a small space. If you're looking for the smallest, thinnest, and most portable laptop without compromising much power, this could be for you. But the form factor of this machine comes at a cost which many users may not be willing to accept. GOOD: - Beautiful design, as mentioned above. There will be no doubt by anyone that this is a premium product. Co-workers have stopped at my desk after noticing how sleek and thin this computer is. - Great keyboard. For such a thin machine, the keys have a surprising amount of travel and are nicely spaced out. - Nice, sharp screen. Sure, it's not a super high resolution, but text and images look very crisp. It gets quite bright and produces great black levels and viewing angles. - This thing is powerful. With an i7 and 8GB of RAM, you should have no problems running any type of software. - Comes with a nice leather carrying sleeve that is a perfect fit for the laptop. COULD BE BETTER: - Battery. HP claims 9 hours of battery life, but after a few days of use, I have yet to get more than 6 hours with normal use and half screen brightness. It's not bad, but it's not amazing. With a laptop this thin, it's hard to expect anything more. - The trackpad works nicely, but I find it to be a little too small. It's not tall enough to allow for long scrolls through webpages or Word documents. - The screen is crazy glossy. I usually don't mind glossy screens, but this one is essentially unusable outdoors or with direct overhead lighting. - This thing is a fingerprint magnet. If you like to keep your devices clean and perfect, this might drive you nuts. BAD: - The noise. It's awful. The fans seem like they spin up to full blast if you simply touch the trackpad or open a web browser. The fans are basically ALWAYS on. Even worse, my unit makes a horrible "chirping" or "sqeaking" sound whenever the power adapter is plugged in. As soon as I unplug the power cord from the back of the laptop, the noise goes away. Maybe I got a defective laptop, but this doesn't seem normal to me. - The cable for the power adapter is just ridiculously long. It must be at least 12 feet long, which sort of defeats the purpose of an ultra-portable laptop. All of the space that you save with the thinness of the laptop is used up by the huge power cord. - USB-C ports are the only option. There are no standard USB 3.0 ports, nor is there an SD card slot. For now, you will need an adapter for pretty much any accessory that you want to plug in. Luckily, HP includes one USB-C to USB 3.0 adapter in the box. I'm sure USB-C will eventually take over, but for the time being, it's more of an annoyance than a convenience. OVERALL: This laptop is highly-functional and competitively priced. However, some users might not like the trade-offs in battery life, screen real estate, and fan noise that are a result of this ultra-thin design. If none of that really matters, and you just want a super-thin and super-light laptop, give this a look. Just remember to leave some extra space in your bag for the power cord and USB adapters.

Pros-screen, performance, looks, feature rich, light weight, thinness. Cons-battery life, bulky laptop charger and not compatible with 3rd party USB-C chargers or external batteries. Although there are 3 USB-C ports, can be inconvenient. As many have noted, this is a beautiful and well performing computer. Despite it being thin and lightweight, it has a rather large footprint and has the same exterior dimensions, if not a little larger, than my MacBook Pro 13.3. I specifically bought this laptop because it uses USB-C ports and chargers. However, I have learned it would be nice to have at least one regular size USB 3.0 port, but its thinness precludes it. Battery life is not as good as advertised though seems to be improving. I could live with the low battery life but cant stand the bulky three-prong charger. I have tried several 3rd party low profile adapters but they only work when the laptop is off or screen closed. I have tried high capacity USB--C external batteries, too, and they don't work either. Having to transport a bulky heavy charger seems to defeat the purpose of this ultra book. I really like this laptop and recommend it, but I've traded it for the Dell XPS 13, which is a little heavier by 6 ozs and thicker, but it has a smaller footprint, works with third party USB-C chargers and has two USB 3.0 ports.

    Design AND Power

If design and power is important to you in a windows laptop this is the machine for you. I went for the full I7 machine and it is the best. Others will tell you that touch is a negative, but even on my Surface I rarely use it. Also battery life is fine. I'm always confused by these people who can't seem to find a place to re-charge within an eight hour day!

First Impressions... This laptop is designed to impress from the start! After I opened the typical cardboard outer box, I was greeted with a very nice looking black box with shiny gold lettering that spells Spectre on the side. I opened the box the first thing that caught my eye was the gold trim down the edge of the laptop. A small plastic tab sticks out so that the laptop can be easily removed from its protective area. Underneath, there is a small AC power brick and a cable that plugs it into one of the USB-C ports. What hits you first is how light the laptop is, then immediately how thin it is! The rubber strips on the bottom nearly double the thickness of the lower half of the laptop although they are not obtrusive at all. Right now I am writing this review with the laptop sitting on my lap and those wide rubber strips help keep it from moving around. Digging in... After going through the typical Windows setup and watching as it told me how happy I will be once it gets everything organized for me, I was able to see the Windows Desktop. My regular laptop runs the same resolution on a 17” screen, so the size difference translated into crisp, clear screen than I am used to seeing. Not to say my old machine isn’t easy on the eyes, actually I like the matte finish on its screen better than the glossy finish on just about every machine available today. The Spectre’s screen seems to be just about the perfect size for 1920x1080 resolution. The touchpad is incredible! I was immediately impressed by the sensitivity and responsiveness of the touchpad. I have used mice for over 25 years and have never found a touchpad that I liked. This thing is better than anything I have tried from either Mac or Windows brands. I actually haven’t plugged in a mouse yet and I have been playing with this thing for over an hour! Sound is a very important part of most of our lives and the Spectre has nice, crisp sound but misses a lot of the bass sound I have come to enjoy from my other laptop. I think this does a very good job of delivering sound given the limited space available, but volume and low frequencies are hit by the constraints of the package. That being said, the higher frequencies have very good tone and range at that end. I wondered about the heat that would be produced by an i7 in such a small package, but the design that HP used for cooling does a very good job of keeping things going. It does warm a bit, but not so bad that I would feel the need to move it from my lap even when viewing full-screen videos. With the efficiency of the processor, I didn’t expect it to be so quick and capable. Overall I am very impressed with all the nice little details that set this apart from other laptops. I would say this should do a decent job competing with the higher end products offered by its competitors. Things like the backlit keyboard and fit and finish are becoming more common on this level of machine, but HP has added other things like the elegant hinges, gold trim and other little touches that put it ahead in some ways, although the gold trim may be a bit over the top! The leather sleeve that comes with it is very nice as well, fitting the laptop nice and snug to protect it while traveling. I connected a pair of Bose QuietComfort 35 headphones and they connected quickly and have no problems with the bluetooth cutting or syncing. Even when walking a few yards away from the laptop, the sound is unbroken. The WiFi signal strength is also strong, allowing for a good signal throughout my house. The criticism… There are a couple of things that I miss on this machine that I think would have made it even better such as a touch screen, regular USB port and maybe even an HDMI port (or adapter). The included USB-C to USB-3 adapter cable makes up for the lack of that port and the wireless is more than capable of casting video and sound to a Chromecast or other device but the touchpad just can’t replace a touch screen. I understand that the emphasis was on thin and light and this machine isn’t designed to be a tablet, but the Windows 10 interface just begs to be touched. Conclusion… I’ve now spent a few days with it, and am still very impressed with HP’s little gem. I am not sure that I would replace my desktop or even a regular laptop with this little thing, but I can already see that this is going to be used in ways neither of them have been and this will fill in where even my tablet falls short. It lacks the stylus of the Surface Pro (or my Galaxy Note Pro) but makes up for it in other ways!

Only a minor issues with an otherwise exceptional laptop. Pro: This is a very nice-looking laptop. Beautiful finishes, with soft-touch black and the gold hinge. Along with the subtle, yet very nice look of the HP logo on top and the sprinkled Spectre logo throughout. Performance is outstanding. The combination of the i7 and 8Gb of RAM let this machine make short work of almost any task. Performance on this level is what you would expect from a desktop machine. The weight and thinness is also truly exceptional. Cons: I'm accustomed to having a touchscreen, so much in fact that I found myself trying to touch the display. Obviously, the description doesn't mention that it is a touchscreen, but I do wish it had one. That gorgeous finish comes with the price of maintenance. Fingerprints will show very easily, especially around the hinge area. I also wouldn't mind having an HDMI out. Though, I'm sure this was omitted to keep the tablet as thin as it is. Overall: The pros exceedingly outweigh the cons with this laptop. It's finish will surely be the envy of those around you, coupled with it's excellent performance. The laptop's looks easily rival any high-end laptop on the market. The minor issues I had will likely not be the same with others. Many will not need, or care about a touchscreen. The smudges on the hinge are easily cleaned as well. They even included a microfiber cloth to do so. :)

This laptop is quite the quick little machine. I was pleasantly surprised with all aspects of it from the very beginning. First, to the performance: The laptop is quick, and it has every right to be. The processor is an i7-6500U with 8GB of RAM and a 256GB NVMe drive. When running ATTO Diskbench, the read peaked at a blazing fast 1.57TB/s, with the write hovering at a much more average 300MB/s The i7 in this machine ensures you have an agile experience, that does not take long to load, use, run, watch or listen to. And while a large portion of that is the very fast SSD, the SSD will only feed data as fast as the processor is prepared to handle. As far as graphics are concerned, you are limited to the Intel on-chip graphics, which, while nothing to write home about, are much better in current generation processors than they have been in years past. The Intel HD Graphics 520 in this machine will put you at about the performance level of an NVidia Geforce 820M, which is to say, very entry-level. You wouldn't want to game on this extensively, but it'll do for a few rounds of hearthstone, running Minecraft on lower settings, or even a couple of more demanding titles, though you'd need to experiment, remembering that this machine is not a gaming machine by any stretch of the concept. Keeping in mind the audience that this machine is designed for, the ultra-mobile business person, or even a student that needs a powerful but very mobile machine (at a price), HP has managed to tick all the boxes. Finally, when it comes to the battery, I was able to get plenty of life out of it for my use. With on-and-off usage over the course of a number of hours (6?) I still had 30% battery life remaining when I shut down, which would easily coincide with the ~9 hour battery life that HP suggests it is capable of. Obviously heavier usage would cause that number to drop somewhat. Next, to discuss the design: The laptop itself is unlike any HP machine I've ever run across, which is no small thing. Or maybe it is a small thing... This laptop is crazy thin, almost thin enough I can toss out my everyday razor. The HP is stylized in lines on the top in such a way as I've never seen it before. It is something that would make me look twice at it if I saw it in a coffee shop or anywhere else. The screen is Full HD with edge-to-edge Gorilla Glass which makes for a very clean look though somewhat odd since it is not a touchscreen. I admit it will help with the protection of the screen since it is such a thin laptop, but with the heavy use of touch in everything, I would have expected that to be included in such a high end machine. This is not a huge gripe for me though as I feel the addition of touchscreen has been a bit overzealous in most platforms, so it was likely a very distinct design decision not to include one and to make this just a straight laptop rather than some sort of laptop hybrid. The keyboard is backlit, though admittedly it is hard to see it in a normally lit room, so no need to run the backlight and eat the battery unless you're in a darker room. The speakers are... well... laptop speakers. I understand what they were trying to do with them, but being that this is such a thin platform, you can really only do so much with them. What they do manage is to be very clear, no static or distortion, they sit in an unobtrusive place on the sides of the keyboard and even add to the overall aesthetic of the design. But full of sound, they are not. Again, I do not fault the laptop for them, particularly, as speakers of this size just cannot have the range of a larger set. The first boot of the laptop is much as you'd expect from any Windows 10 first boot, it wound through the standard Windows 10 setup options and ended on only a single HP inserted setup page letting you choose a few communications options from HP with very little nagging. Once loaded to the desktop, a simple 'Welcome to Windows 10' window popped up describing some of the capabilities of Windows 10 such as Cortana, as well as suggesting things like Office 365 and suggesting the installation of McAfee as antivirus. Fortunately it is all very limited in its nagging. At that point I actually went hunting to see how much bloat HP chose to install on this machine. I'm going to begin to sound like a broken record here, but I kid you not, the only HP bloatware on this machine had to do with warranty services, HP Support, McAfee LiveSafe and HP cooling controls for the fans. That's it. No including random games no one uses, no other random software for imaging that no one ever uses, not even an attempt at upselling HP's other products. Truly a cut above experience compared to your everyday entry- and mid-range HP machines. HP did take about 10GB of the 256GB SSD for recovery purposes, but of the remaining, only 26GB of it is in use, which is quite respectable, leaving me right around 90% of the drive available for use. Again, I felt no need to go hunting for the junk to uninstall just to ensure I had the space to work with this laptop. In fact, the only 'nag' I had from the machine since I booted it was for it to remind me to check the warranty length, which I feel is a fair thing to do, at that point it gave me the option to never nag me again or to remind me when it gets closer to expiration. Finally, the packaging: Usually I wouldn't spend any time on this, laptops in general tend to come in boring brown boxes with little intrigue and no design to them, however when opening it, even the packaging was superb. Inside the standard HP brown box was a leatherette sleeve for the laptop, then a separate thick black box with the laptop inside. I know it is just a box, but even the box had the feel of high end craftsmanship, it was embossed with the word Spectre, and even the top of the inside of the box is padded to protect the laptop itself. Opening the black box even lends to the sense of excitement as you can feel that you are opening something that is well made. Beyond that, even the laptop itself, inside the box-within-a-box was still separately wrapped for protection. Outside of that there were very little 'junk' included inside, nothing trying to sell me antivirus or online services, just the warranty card, the USB type-C cable, the charging cable, a dusting cloth, and a little leaflette on proper recycling of batteries and electronics. It is clear that HP is attempting to appeal to the high-end ultra-mobile market with this machine, and I would have to say they are doing quite an excellent job of it. I would have no trouble recommending this machine for anyone in the market for such a device. Bottom Line: Positives: +Thin enough to shave with (10.4mm) +Fast Processor +Very Fast NVMe SSD +Full HD screen +High End Craftsmanship and Materials +Excellent Design +Very Little Bloat Installed Negatives: -No Touchscreen -Dim keyboard backlight

HP Spectre - 6th Generation Intel Core i7 - 6500U Processor (2.5GHz) - 256GB Solid State Drive (SSD) - 8192MB LPDDR3 SD RAM - No Optical Drive - Windows 10 - 13.3 Diagonal Full HD IPS LED Display - WLAN & Bluetooth - Bang & Olufsen - Battery 4-cell 38Wh Li-Ion Polymer Package Contents: - Laptop Sleeve Included - HP Spectre - Setup Instructions - Warranty Card/Info - Cleaning Cloth - Gentle Warning Card (Nice one on this HP *BUY IT TO FIND OUT WHAT IT SAYS*) - HPECOSolutions (Instructions on how you can recycle your old laptop/notebook) - AC Power Adapter with Power Cord - USB Type C Thunderbolt Converter Cable (to USB) Testing/Setup: - Color and finish of this bad boy is amazing. The new HP logo also looks fantastic. Spectre... This would be 007's perfect and primary choice - Screen looks really crisp and awesome - Text looks clean and its really easy to read - Laptop is light and extremely thin - Colors are vibrant - Trackpad is smooth and it recognizes my movements perfectly - Keyboard feels good, mechanical keys has me whipped though so the keys on the Spectre isn't fantastic but they aren't terrible; they are good. - Fans at one point got a little loud when I was doing Windows updates and watching a movie. Not like turbine jets but it was a little loud. Heat dissipates in the back of the unit and you can feel the heat on the table if you have it on a table. - Bang & Olufsen are awesome! Even at 67% volume, I can heat it clearly while my son was watching T.V. right next to me. I was watching Captain America Winter Soldier and I could hear the text the characters were speaking clearly. - With 256GB of HD space, I would recommend getting the 512GB HD instead if you have the extra money. I wanted to try some games but being that this laptop wasn't built really for gaming and the HD was only 256GB, I was skeptical about installing a game. I might in the future but as of right now I haven't played any games on it. I am sure playing games will be fine depending on what you play. It does have the integrated Intel HD Graphics 520. Of course if you want to game, I would recommend a dedicated graphics card instead. I'm sure you can play games like StarCraft 2 and some other ones on either medium-low settings. If you are expecting this thing to run 60+FPS on Ultra settings, you may want to get a desktop. But like I said before, this laptop wasn't built for pure gaming. BUT, it can do gaming. - Boot up and usage because of the 8GB RAM & SSD, the laptop is snappy! It multi-tasks smoothly and efficiently. The laptop takes 3 seconds to boot up and 2 seconds to shut down. - Battery is built into the laptop so it isn't removable. Even if it is, it may be a pain in the butt. - HP claims you can get approximately 9 hours of usage with this beauty but I haven't fully tested/drained the battery. Conclusion: Wow... I really really love this thing. I kinda wish I was 007 now. 007 wouldn't be disappointed. The beauty of this thing is like getting a Rolls-Royce of laptops. I would definitely recommend anyone to purchase this bad boy. Its fast, sleek looking, and will handle what you need to throw at it thanks to the i7 processor. Of course, you can purchase the i5 but I don't know 100% how that would perform since I am reviewing the i7 version. If you guys are shopping around and you're tired of MACs, look into the HP Spectre. See if a store nearby has one on display and go feel it, look at it, and test it out. The only CON I possibly found was that there's no CD ROM drive. But I mean, who uses that anymore? PLUS, even if you do; you can purchase a decent external one. I actually have an external that I use for my desktop so it doesn't bother me. But for some, no CD ROM may bother them. I just have to say, HP did an amazing job with this beast. Keep going guys, keep going.

Spectre - Sexy Powerful Eye-Catching Thin REliable

I have to admit, I was floored by the new HP Spectre. I used to be a Windows power user in the past but for the last 7 years I've been a Mac guy. I had to Windows computer though because the software I need for work has to be on Windows and I have to have Internet Explorer (yes, I know that I can run Windows on a Mac but somehow that seems dirty and weird, don't get me started on having to use IE). A co-worker of mine purchased the last version of the Spectre and she did well with it for a while but did eventually run into some problems. Though to be fair to HP, they were probably her fault and not the computer but I can't verify that. So I had a little concern about this new version but I could not resist how cool this thing looked and the impressive specs under the hood. For the last two weeks I have put this thing through some paces that would bring a MacBook to it's knees (if it had them) and the Spectre ate it all up and asked for more! Speed that I used to only associate with Macs is now to be had with a Windows machine. The new cooling set-up on the Spectre doesn't just blow out hot air, it actively draws in cool air over the processor so that it can run faster and hotter. I thought this was some creative ad guys coming up with some cool sounding feature but no, it really does work. Another thing, hats off to HP for not putting bloatware on this thing. After powering it up and getting everything set up, I could not find a single piece of junk on this thing. Sure there are some programs that came with Windows that I turned off but no other junk hiding there. Getting the computer set up was also a breeze. HP provides a USB-C to USB adaptor in the box (thank you) and within minutes I was able to transfer almost a hundred gigabytes of data over. I may have already mentioned that this thing is sexy as all get out but it deserves repeating. HP was supposedly trying to make the machine more like a woman's designer bag or jewelry but it is just as awesome for a guy. The black and gold looks slick and I haven't had a single person who has not commented on how good it looks when they see it. Brains and good looks? This one is a keeper! I have only two quibbles for this machine: 1. This thing holds on to fingerprints like nobody's business! It is a shame that after just a bit of hand-holding with this sexy beast, it looks so disheveled. That goes for the matte black portions and doubly so for gold parts. I had to scrub hard with a polishing cloth to get the fingerprints off for the pictures. 2. USB-C. I know it is the future and it helps make this thing incredibly thin, but considering that you need adaptors or specialized gear to really make it work, it is kind of a pain. Plus needing an adaptor for anything like HDMI/VGA.DVI out or an SD Card kind of stinks. Soon all of the accessories will be coming but right now I still feel like I'm on the bleeding edge without any support. Can't say enough about this machine! This is the first Windows machine that has not made me wish that I was on a Mac and in fact, has me thinking about replacing my Macs! Now that is saying something! Don't think. Just go get your sexy PhD of a computer and put a ring on it!

    Very Nicely Designed Machine...

Unboxing this machine was a pleasure in itself. As a designer by profession, the exterior packaging is great. Very pleasing to the eye and very tactile. Finally getting to open up and see the 'steampunk' inspired/colored (dark copper/brown, with brass brightwork) was very nice indeed and very refreshing in a sea of laptops. And this laptop is thin! Very thin indeed. Satisfyingly thin! I am used to machines running OS X, as a designer, so this was new realm for me, firing up Windows 10. They did a nice job setting up the system, however, there were a few times that the Windows experience let me down, leaving me hanging, not knowing if I was being registered for something or not or if a process was going to complete or not. Finally it all worked out, but had me wondering for a moment or two. This, however, is on Microsoft's end, and definitely not HP's. So, sitting down in front of the newly fired up PC, I instantly connected to my wifi network, and that is something that has impressed me during my time with the HP Spectre. The time it takes from sleep, to be fully connected back to my wifi is almost instantaneous. Loved that it did that. I am used to waiting for about 40-50 seconds. The screen is very nice and crisp to look at with vibrant colors, and is incredibly thin. However, I did notice at times, looking at text on various websites, that there was some ghosting, or what appeared to be staggering of text when scrolling. Not a deal breaker, but aesthetically a little disappointing. Would also have been nice, especially at this price point if it were a touchscreen. The HP Spectre responds very quickly to input on the trackpad, and I was able to reconfigure it to respond how I am used to working. I did notice that sometimes, when you go to scroll, the response can be determined as a click, and that can be frustrating, but overall, very responsive to gestures. The back-lit keypad is very nice to look at. It's been well thought out and nicely laid out. The travel in the keys could have a little more weight to it, sometimes key presses felt a little 'off center', but overall, very comfortable to type with. Battery life seems to be fairly strong, given the specs of the machine. I did notice that when the fans spin up (which did appear to be quite regularly) that the battery consumption would increase to a point that was noticeable. In your hands, this machine is surprisingly light, but without feeling flimsy or cheap. It has weight where it counts, along the hinge, giving a reassuring feeling that the screen is not going to separate from the case after just a few openings. It also comes with a faux leather slipcase for protection. I have yet to tax the HP Spectre to it's max, but my overall experience with this machine has been very positive. It looks fantastic, and performs very well for what I have used it for so far, typing up documents, surfing the web, downloading/streaming. It is very comfortable at performing those tasks with ease.

After unboxing the laptop (which was a treat in itself) and starting it up, it took about 15 minutes or so to get it configured and to get to the Windows 10 desktop. Probably would have taken less time if I was not manually configuring certain features during setup. As with all pre-built computers, this laptop came with a few applications already pre-installed, but not as many as I have come to expect. Just had McAfee anti-virus software, Microsoft Office, various HP-related software/tools, and that's pretty much it. It was nice not to be bombarded with several different pre-installed applications, all trying to get you to register or sign-up for something. The overall design of the laptop is superb and blends in well anywhere you take it, it doesn’t stick out as something that shouldn’t be there. The laptop’s performance is fantastic considering how thin this laptop is and the type of hardware that was put into it. Multi-tasking is a breeze and it comes with plenty of hard drive space for all of your applications, documents, and everything else in between. As I was navigating through the desktop, installing my personal applications, running several applications at the same time, I didn’t notice or hear the fans make any noise. Didn’t feel any sort of build-up in heat, which is great for when you’re using the laptop for extended periods of time. The backlit keyboard was not activated when I first started using the laptop and after playing with the functions keys a bit, I was able to turn them on. All the keys except for the space bar are backlit. But this isn't much of an issue because you can see where the spacebar is with all of the other keys being lit. Typing on the keyboard felt solid and the tactile response that I get while typing is great, similar to typing on a mechanical keyboard, you know when you are hitting a key and when you are not. Of course, you can type a little slower/hitting the keys a bit softer to avoid making excessive keyboard noises. The biggest thing I really enjoy about this laptop is the thinness, lightweight, and mobility. I'm still amazed at how thin this laptop is. It's almost as if I was holding a slightly thick magazine and that fact that is almost weighs as much as one, continues to amaze me. With the type of mobility that is offered with this laptop though, quite of bit of extras had to be removed in order to achieve this. There are only four ports on this laptop, three of them are USB Type-C (USB-C) ports, two of them also work as Thunderbolt ports, and one headset jack (mic + speakers), that's it. There's no Ethernet port, no disc drive, no regular sized USB ports (you have to buy an adaptor that works with the USB-C ports), and so forth. Even though USB-C is slowly making its way through the consumer market, it is still a relatively new port format that isn't as widely available as the various other USB port standards we are all use to today. Those being the USB Type A (which is pretty much used by everything such as keyboards, mice, flash drives, printers), Micro USB, etc. Luckily, people can purchase adaptors to convert USB-C ports into various other ports, which can be an annoyance for some people since they have to invest more money to purchase these adaptors. This laptop did come with one HP branded USB-C Male to USB Type A female adaptor. So at least I can plug in an external mouse every once in a while when I need it. Overall, this laptop is perfect for just about anyone for almost any use. Don’t expect to run graphic intensive games on it, but after working on the Internet, writing up documents, watching movies, playing a little bit of Solitaire, this laptop can handle itself pretty well in many different scenarios. For both casual and business purposes and you can easily take it with you wherever you need to go.

In searching for a new laptop I wanted something that would travel well, had excellent specs/performance and looked great to impress clients. The new HP Spectre not only met my criteria but far surpassed it. It is absolutely the best looking laptop I have ever seen with its gorgeous design, copper accenting, back-lit keyboard, and sporting the new HP logo. It is amazingly thin, almost as thin as my Galaxy S5 Active phone (see picture) so traveling with it is a breeze. It boots up quickly and performs tasks incredibly fast with its Intel Core i7 processor, 8 gigs of RAM and a 256 gb solid state drive. The keyboard has excellent response as does the track pad, both of which never miss a beat as I'm using them. It has 3 USB type C connections, any of which can be used for charging, and it comes with an adapter for using regular USB peripherals. I absolutely love this laptop and have received many compliments from clients who all want one, too! HP knocked it out of the park with the astounding computer.

The HP Spectre 13.3 Laptop is amazing. It looks like a work of art. You will stand out in a crowd when you are using this laptop out in public. The matte black exterior with shiny gold accents makes this laptop look like a premium item. Thankfully, it IS a premium item. With Windows 10, a 6th gen Pentium i7 processor, 8GM memory, solid state drive and Bang and Olufsen stero speakers, this laptop is quick, powerful and has premium sound. It has three of the new kind of standard universal power/USB port (I forget what it's called) and comes with one USB adapter to fit the port. There is a headphone port as well. It also came with a leather carrying case which looks sleek as well. This is by far the best laptop I've ever had. The one negative about it is that it isn't a touchscreen. If that doesn't matter to you, then this laptop is the way to go.

The Laptop comes nicely packaged. It is very thin and weighs less than 2.5 lbs. Looks vey good at a business meeting. The screen display is very crisp and bright. The back lit keys are definitely a plus and feel nice to the touch. Boots up in seconds and ready for tasking. I also enjoy the fast AC wireless and connecting to my TV wirelessly. The processing speed is incredible. The battery last's approximately 4 hours, however, I am using full screen brightness. The cooling fan does run quite a bit which may affect battery life also. Videos load good and have great HD. HP could improve the design by making this a 2 in 1 and adding a touch screen and then it would be perfect. It does come with a USB C adaptor so you can adapt other devices such as flash drives or SD cards which I do quite regularly. I also use a blue tooth mouse. Another plus is the included sleeve protector. I am very happy with this Laptop and would definitely recommend if you are looking for the newest state of the art design in a Laptop.

I purchased this computer from Best Buy a few days ago and have been enjoying the experience ever since. The first thing I noticed about it was that it's an extremely attractive laptop. The aluminum and carbon fiber chassis is light and durable. The piston assisted hinges are both smooth and nice to look at. The computers I7 processor and the ssd is extremely fast. Screen is bright and vivid, perfect for watching movies or videos. One of my favorite parts about this computer is the keyboard and track pad, they're very responsive and fun to type on. I watched seven full episodes of Game Of Thrones at 50% screen brightness before i had to plug the ac adapter in, I thinks that's some pretty awesome battery life right there.

I bought this laptop to replace an older, heavier model before a trip overseas. It is truly beautiful, lightweight, functional, and super thin. Was able to do everything I needed and was great for watching movies. This computer definitely gets noticed, I was asked about it on more than one occasion. I bought the matching mouse from HP as it was not available at Best Buy. Only downside is you need converters for the USB ports, however, one is included in the box. I never like anything enough to write good reviews but I couldn't help it, I just love it.

This is my first laptop purchased through Best Buy. The laptop has a sleek elegant design...but you already know about it! Pros: 1) Super fast boot up 2) i7 processor 3) Sufficient RAM 4) Portable Cons: 1) Speakers are not out of the ordinary 2) Fan gets a audible hum and the machine did gets hot once or twice even under light operation - Workaround "HP Coolsense" seemed to do the trick by turning it On or Off (depending on the issue). Online reviews of the laptop conveyed positive feedback for the product But overall, I had a good experience at the the Best Buy store as the Blue Shirt associate helped me make an informed choice. Also, there was an online promotion that bumped down the price by $50 (price match) and I was able to garner a decent deal!

Purchased this laptop back in Aug. Love the design and lightweight feature. Simply beautiful monitor and one of the best keyboards I've used and super fast processing speed. The speakers are also amazing for such a slim laptop. The poor. . . battery life does not last 8 hrs in real-life. I average about 3 because the fan is constantly running; even by managing programs running through Task Manager. Therefore, it gets hot on the lap. The USB-C connection requires an adapter for all USBs. This may be a great feature 2 years from now when USB-C becomes standard; as of now, it is an inconvenience with an additional cost to purchase adapters. And finally, the small storage capacity at 256gb--add an expansion slot without using USB-C would be helpful.

I LOVE my new Spectre! Elegant & classy, & it's sooo lightweight compared to my old Pavilion laptop. While I'm still adjusting to Windows 10 & how FAST the Spectre is, I'll get there eventually.

The size, weight and feel of the keyboard is great. It does tend to get hot when running hard, but packing an i-level Intel processor in such a small space (I got the i7 model) will do that. Having 3 USB-C 3.1 ports (two of which support Thunderbolt 3) is great. Battery life is good IMHO, especially for such a powerful machine. Surprised that HP made this puppy. It's pretty and useful. Only sadness is that it is not available with > 8GB RAM, so it's a decent, but not great, development machine.
