Breathing new tech into an old device!

Do you have an old TV or device that you're not using that still has the RCA outlets in the back? Want to hook your new tech up to it that uses an HDMI output? This device is for you! If you are looking for a way to plug an old tech with RCA converter output into a new tech with HDMI input...then this is the exact opposite of what you are looking for. There are those devices out there but this isn't it. My parents have an old projector in their basement that hasn't been used in quite a while but does have RCA connections to input. My kids were amazed that I was able to plug our ps5 into it and then they were able to play Astro Bot on a giant wall in their basement. The connections were sturdy and I saw no issues with the plugs on the device. The quality is about as good as you get from whatever device you are using. So if you're using an old projector or a giant tube tv to get that nostalgia effect, that's the quality you end up with! This device worked exactly as expected and the only thing I would note is that it does not come with any RCA cables. So remember to pick those up at Best Buy when you're there!

Connected cable box HDMI output to older TV

It worked great to connect an HDMI only output cable box to an older TV with RCA inputs and without an HDMI input. The picture quality was better than expected and the sound was good. This adapter is one-way only using an HDMI input to an RCA output. It will not work in reverse to take an RCA signal and convert to HDMI. That is a separate adapter, and I discovered that Insignia also offers this adapter. I looked for a bi-directional adapter and found one at a ridiculous price, but not the Insignia brand. It is cheaper to buy both adapters than the bi-directional one. This adapter includes the USB type A power supply and the power cable to provide power to the adapter. The power supply output is 5 Volt 1 amp. I used the provided power supply, but you could use a power supply with a higher amp rating. It does not include the HDMI cable or the RCA cables. The adapter, the power supply, and the power supply cable are all black. The power supply does not have folding prongs, a feature that I like with my larger power supplies. This adapter does the job and is recommended.

    Solid HDMI to RCA converter.

For the Mini Console or emulation enthusiast, the Insignia HDMI to RCA converter is a great way to enjoy newer HDMI-only devices on older TVs that lack HDMI or DVI ports. There is very little latency in the conversion, moving from 720p or 480p to 480i is solid (albeit not perfect), and the device is powered by USB-C so it’s easy to find a cable if you bring it with you and forget your power connector. Unboxing and setup: Connect the power cable and HDMI source to the box, then using the tried-and-true ketchup, mustard, and mayo RCA cables, connect this to your CRT TV. I would recommend against using this with LCD, plasma, DLP, LCoS/SXRD, or other display technologies as it can give your image a serious case of “dot crawl” and “the jaggies” that CRTs tend to not have because of how they work. You may ask yourself “Can I get something better?” and yes, yes you can. But you’ll also pay a lot more for it. The Insignia converter gets the job done well enough. For the money, however, you can’t really beat this converter from Insignia.
