This was cheaply made and did not stay mounted well.

Honestly I was not impressed with this. The quality didn't seem any different than the onboard microphone.

I went with this Insignia model in the hopes that it would be comparable to the RODE Videomic but for a cheaper price, and I think it serves the purpose well enough. The high-pass filter helps with background noise, the build seems sturdy enough, and the shock mount works well against vibration. The only issue I could find is what seems to be a limited effective range. The mic range seems to drop off much closer than expected, especially outdoors, but overall still a good way to get better sound than a built-in mic.

Simple fact is this is just not a good mic. Maybe I am just wanting to much for the price. My biggest problem is it corrects way to much noise from the sides. Not how a shotgun mic should work.

I bought this product about 3 months ago figuring that it would work for my camera, but the aux side of the cord did not fit (it was to big) so I couldn't use it.

I read the reviews prior to purchasing this product with the hope that it would do what I needed it to do. It was marked down in price and I decided to take a chance on it. I wanted to use this microphone with my compact Sanyo camcorder to get better quality sound when filming. Using the built in mic on the camcorder produced a lot of noise such as popping and clicking sounds with an overall muddiness of sound because it picked up everything including sound from your subject. This external mic had a wind cover, band pass filter and some amplification abilities. I was hoping that these capabilities would give me a little more control of my sound and I could adjust for non-optimal environments but that was not the case. The overall build quality of the unit is not good and the amplifier produces unwanted noise. The size of the mic and the battery compartment is ungainly and makes the camera feel off balance. I have used many external mics and I would not recommend this one even as a low cost alternative.
