Great multi vacuum - mopping unit!

I had purchased a Roomba robot vacuum a few years ago which I thought was a decent unit. This newer unit is way better than the last one. This unit has improved alot from the other one with advanced technology of the Lidar radar. The unit is fairly easy to put together and having the unit map the area from the base does take some planning. I had to remap the base unit two times as I had it in some areas it was not working out the greatest. But once you get it setup and it has run a few times I have not had any issues with it on my first floor with stairs going down to the basement. I have carpet and laminated vinyl plank (lvp) and carpet and it works great. I really enjoyed the app on it for letting the unit know where to not go. The new unit is way quieter than the old one and it is very efficient compared to the old. The only issue I have is setting the cleaning of the unit. I originally had it happen at night while we were sleeping which I then changed to when we were working. The unit is a little loud when in the cleaning mode for us light sleepers. But that is the only issue we had with this unit. I am still giving it 5 stars as it is a great product.

I have been using the Roomba 105 Combo Robot Vacuum & Mop (without an auto empty base) for over a week now, and my overall vibe is that it has been a good little unit that delivers as advertised. Its best differentiators are the inclusion of the washable mop pad, LiDAR sensing, and the app.
Out of the box, you get the 105, a charging base, and the applicable components. The unit, like many other Roombas I have owned, is well manufactured and offers sturdy and robust craftsmanship. Setting up is not particularly easy when downloading firmware updates and then mapping your home through the app. My experience just with the initial setup was that it took me about 28 minutes to see our little guy out putting in work. The mop is a neat inclusion, but to be clear, it is just a microfiber cloth that wipes the floor down. As far as I can tell, the unit is not applying pressure scrubbing during operations. The ClearView LiDAR mapping works really well. The Roomba app lets you clean up the mapped floor plan and then even create work zones and avoidance areas, like carpets.
Like most iRobot products, the 105 has an impressive suction performance. The robot will systematically clean your home, but you will need to double-check and clean corners as required. The collision systems also work well, but you catch your buddy bouncing off items and furniture as well as getting stuck here and there. My issue is that we have a long-haired dog. I want to ensure that I do not misrepresent the product, but I do not believe this device is intended for households with specific fuzzy friends without understanding the additional TLC required. We are constantly cleaning the roller, even after one week, because of our dog. The sweeper and roller lack an internal mechanism to manage hair, resulting in noticeable streaks during the cleaning of soiled areas. This is a significant limitation for pet owners, and they should consider this before making a purchase.
The final conclusion is that I have had a few Roombas and understand the quality and longevity owners can expect. If you're looking for a dependable robot cleaner that can manage both vacuuming and light mopping with innovative features, the Roomba 105 Combo is a smart choice. It won’t replace a deep-cleaning session, but it certainly helps keep the daily mess in check, giving you peace of mind. That said, I would recommend this unit to family or friends, but I would make sure that it really fits their needs since its versatility is limited.

Satisfying to use

Summary: A surprisingly affordable and effective cleaner, the Roomba has come a long way towards easy to use and abilities. I was impressed by how easy it was to set up and deploy, and the mop vacuum combo worked better than I expected. I have hard wood floors with some simple cotton throw rugs, and it adapted well. It was also good at getting in tight places than then getting out on its own. The caveat is, like all these robots, it’s still round and hence does not get into corners and edges as well as you might like. And, I have gotten spoiled by the self-emptying connections of more expensive units.
Pros:
- Does a surprisingly good job on a variety of surfaces.
- Floors looked cleaner than when I do it myself. The 105 was more thorough in its coverage, and because it’s so easy to run, I would often just have it do its thing when I stepped out of the house.
- The lidar detection does a great job of mapping a room and avoiding obstacles.
- The power base is very compact.
- Relatively easy to set up, but you do need to pay attention to the instructions.
- I liked the scheduling feature of the App as well as setting up zones. Sometimes I only needed (had time for) one zone.
Matter of Taste:
- Reasonably fast, but don’t think you can do a quick brush up 15 minutes before a party starts.
- Needs to recharge ever 60 minutes or so while running depending on settings and space, and it took close to an hour to recharge. Not a big deal if you plan for it.
- The Mop function requires water and will run out depending on your surfaces. You have to pay attention to refill it. But once I had an idea of how large of a zone it could do in one filling, I would plan accordingly. Pre-wetting the mop made it work better.
-You only get two mop pads, you wash them between use. You might like to have a third.
- You have to both fill it with water and empty it each time you use it. The ones with auto empty are less work and not as messy.
- The software keeps improving, but to take advantage of all the features you do have to study how to use it. There is no purely ‘manual’ mode. You have to set it up with the App.
- Roombas have steadily gotten quieter over the years, and this one is good but not whisper silent. It is much quieter than running a traditional vacuum though, and I can run it while watching tv, an oddly satisfying pleasure.
Cons:
- It doesn’t handle long fringe on Persian rugs well. Will jam up and require freeing the roller.
More words:
I was an early adopter (2 decades ago) of one of the first Roombas and felt back then it was more trouble than it was worth (so-so cleaning, picky about surfaces, had to empty it myself, always seemed to get stuck). Fast forward many innovations later (including phone integration) and I can honestly say it’s a pleasure to use and watch. You can see the difference in my hard wood floors and the Roomba has gotten better at avoiding clutter.
For us it works best on hard surfaces (wood floors, linoleum, tiles). It handled short pet hair with no problem, but my wife has long hair and that would sometime wrap around the brush rotor. That was easy to clean though. It was fine with low pile carpeting or throw rugs (without fringe).
We haven’t thrown away the vacuum cleaner yet. The Roomba is great for dust, small, dry bits of bugs or dirt, it doesn’t handle large wet clumps of dirt well. If our son has been hiking and leaves clods of dirt across the floor from his boots, we get out the vacuum cleaner (and hand it to him). But otherwise, we let the Roomba do its thing. Because it is round, it doesn’t handle corners well or other areas the Roomba does not fit. You can visibly see where it is sparkly clean, and where it is still dusty. Sometimes before I run the Roomba, I use an old-fashioned broom to first sweep the difficult to reach areas into areas where the Roomba can clean. Problem solved.
At this price point I can easily recommend the 105, but you might want to consider buying a more expensive model with self-emptying if you really want to run hands off.

Cleaning made easy

I thought it would be smart having a Roomba at the shop vacuuming and mopping after hours. I don't want to take the time outside of business hours to sweep and mop the 1200 sq ft of floor myself. I know this is the barebones entry level model but I was hopeful it would be good. It manages to clean the main shop floor on one charge as far as I know. It has got stuck a few times, but I've worked harder to make sure there are no cords near the floor. It was "fun" to have to look for it when I got to the store so that I could take it to the charger. In the one area that has too many cords to deal with, I've set to it's own zone and don't include that zone in the nightly cleaning. The mop reservoir is pretty small so it will only do the main shop floor before running out of water. The pad was pretty filthy after the first cleaning so I realized I will need to clean the pads daily. It actually left smears and streaks at the first cleaning. I think that may improve since the Roomba will be vacuuming and moping daily. I'm glad that it came with two mop pads. I only have one rug at the front door and it doesn't attempt to vacuum that since both the vacuum and mop settings are on. I don't know how long it takes to charge as it happens after the nightly cleaning. As far as the app, it lost communication with the Roomba a few times and I had to reboot the vacuum at the charging base to get it to reconnect again. I can see that, if I chose this for my home with carpets and too many obstacles, I wouldn't be happy with this model. This is almost perfect for the shop. As long as the app stays connected to the device, I think we'll be just fine.

The Roomba 105 Combo Robot Vacuum & Mop has all the essential features we were looking for to assist in easily keeping our floors clean with its vacuum and mopping functions. Setup with the Roomba Home app is required on a 2.4 GHz network, though one’s phone can switch back to 5GHz when complete. The app gives the ability to customize cleaning via schedules, room selection, suction power levels, number of cleaning passes and even the amount of cleaning solution pumped onto the mopping pad. The Roomba 105 can be used in vacuum only, mop only, or combo vacuum and mop mode. Mopping mode can use water or cleaning solution and is simply added to the bin tank, and then the microfiber mopping pad is added. Our experience with the robot vacuums cleaning ability was good and the brushes do a nice job of getting along edges. LiDAR mapping scans the areas of the home prior to the initial cleaning with the ability to create up to three maps and on different levels of a home. The price is a good value given the features and customization options. It would be nice if one could access the bin without having to remove the vacuum from the charger, but it’s a minor inconvenience. Occasionally it struggles a bit with items that aren’t obviously an object such as the thin base of a ceiling fan it tries to navigate over.

The iRobot - Roomba 105 Combo Robot Vacuum & Mop comes nicely packaged. I couldn’t find any written instructions but there is a booklet with multiple safely suggestions. Hooking up the unit is quit easy and the charging station is very compact but not intuitive with which ends charges; but eventually the unit backs in correctly. I own multiple Roomba vacuums so I have experience with how they work. With this one, it took me a while to figure out how the mopping function works and where to add the water. It is a very small tank. The one pad would quickly become dirty and I don’t think this function is ready for prime time. The unit does vacuum well and unlike earlier version, it doesn’t just wander aimlessly throughout the house but actually follows a meaningful pattern. It also didn’t get hung up on the vents or any of my area rugs. When it gets done, it go s back to the charging unit automatically. The amount of dirt and dustballs collected is impressive and you can’t imagine that your house is this dirty. This one does not self empty. Overall, this Roomba has been significantly improved from earlier models but I wouldn’t expect the wash pad to actually clean large areas of the floor. I was not able to get it connected to the app and probably because I have other Roombas connected. These devices are real time savers and I find them very useful.

Budget vacuum bot with a little bite

Starting with the obvious, this is not the premium, self-emptying, ultra-smart Roomba. The Roomba 105 is the basic version that skips the fancy auto-empty base station, which means you’ll be doing some hands-on post-cleaning maintenance. Still, it does come with a self-charging dock, so at least you’re not chasing it down with a charging cord.
I knew what I was getting into when I picked this up. I wanted something budget friendly, that could handle a decent daily floor sweep and maybe a light mop here and there without breaking the bank.
Right out of the box, I ran into a bit of a hiccup. You need to connect the Roomba to the Roomba app, and while the app looks intuitive, it gave me some issues during the first-time setup. The software updates took longer than expected, possibly user error, but honestly, it should’ve been easier. It just felt a little more complicated than it needed to be.
Once you’re in and it’s updated, you’re greeted with a nice interface where you can map your home using the onboard LiDAR navigation. That part’s pretty cool. It does a decent job drawing out your space, and from there you can label rooms and create custom cleaning zones.
For a vacuum bot in this price range, I was actually impressed. The Roomba 105 gets around the house with straight line cleaning patterns, which is way better than the old bump and wiggle bots. The suction is more than enough for daily dust, pet hair, crumbs, and light debris on hard floors and low rugs.
That said, when it comes to obstacles, it's hit or miss. It’s great at detecting larger objects, but when it comes to smaller stuff like toys, socks, or even low lying items, it’ll sometimes just push them around unless the front bumper makes contact. Shoes and cords same deal, it’ll just nudge them aside and hopefully doesn’t run them over.
Now for the mopping feature, yes, it exists, but manage your expectations. You have to manually attach the mop pad using a Velcro and snap pad, fill the dustbin reservoir with water (since it doubles as the mop tank). It doesn’t scrub or actively clean, it just drags a damp cloth behind it. It does have a water pump that provides plenty of water to get the pad wet and apply that to the floor. On smooth, lightly dirty floors, it’s fine. Not great. Just… fine. Think of it more as a “shine refresh” than a real mop. It will not lift sticky messes or clean grout.
One thing I do appreciate is how easy it is to clean. The dust bin pops out quickly, and rinsing it is a breeze. You’ll want to empty and rinse it after every run, especially since there’s no self-empty base station to do it for you.
For a the budget minded person who wants a smart cleaning bot this will fit the bill.

Mop and Vacuum with ease

Long time Roomba user here, first time using a combo unit. I have always liked our Roomba’s over the years and was finally ready to try out the combo unit for mopping of our hardwood and tile surfaces. This unit has a 4 stages of cleaning to really clean your floors. The LiDAR system quickly maps your home. In the past I have had a few different models and the maps are good but could have been more precise. This system is the best yet from my experience.
I was nervous about using a combo unit, as I was worried that it would not locate my rugs and would try to mop over them. So far this unit has done an excellent job of detecting rugs while mopping and not going over them. As things tend to shift in the home (rugs slide around) and may not be exactly where they were when I mapped the home, the unit does a great job of detecting the rug while mopping. Very impressed with this so far.
I really appreciate being able to fully control and schedule the types of cleaning I want to do. I can do vacuum on, mop only, or both. And I can schedule these for the days/times I want them to run. Love this flexibility. As with other models I am also able to target specific areas/rooms or set it for the entire house. The mobile app works great and it even works with the common voice activated home devices.
Set up was a breeze, and that has been my experience with all the different Roomba’s I have had over the years. Even a first time user will be able to set this up with ease.

I love having this iRobot Roomba combo vacuum. This wqs super easy to set up using the app. I love how you can map out your entire house or just certain rooms. This combo vac can vaccum up dust, dirt, and debris, and also mop your floor as well. It works great for daily cleanings, deep cleaning, and any spills from my children. It has a long lasting battery life. It is super quiet while running so its great for not waking any of the kids up in early mornings or disturbing you while you do work. Its also great for picking up any hair. You can achedule it to run or you can manually run it. This has made cleaning alot wasier on me and has given me more free time. I havent had any issues with it running, the app has continued to work great for me, and the cleaning process has been amazing. Overall i highly recommend this for automatic vaccuming and mopping. The tank is also easy to dump out and holds a good amount before having to dump it. If you are wanting a little extra spare time then this is great for helping you around your home.

Our dog Milo has grown accustomed to our two existing robot vacuums diligently following him around the main level to clean up what feels like a million pounds of dog hair he sheds each day. Milo does not use the bathroom in the house so we’ve never gotten to test how well the robots avoid piles of dog mess, but they get plenty of obstacle avoidance practice with a myriad of oddly shaped dog toys that Milo scatters around the main level. Our main level is hardwoods which are the best surface to have when dealing with robot vacuums at their current level of technical maturity. Milo likes to take food from his dog bowl and eat it on the rug in our living room. We now spread out an old beach towel on the rug which Milo uses as his food staging ground. The robots do not respond well to this beach towel. The robots try to eat the towel and get trapped on top as the towel and cry out for help on a daily basis. So we’ve now grown accustomed to picking up the towel before before the robots start cleaning, and since we already are picking stuff up we end up collecting most of the dog toys in the surrounding area as well. It’s kind of like when you hire a maid to clean your house but then you go around cleaning up before the maid arrives which makes you question why you hired the maid in the first place. But that’s life with a dog and a robot vacuum. So how is this Roomba adjusting to being the third robot on the cleaning block?
I’ll start with mopping. This Roomba uses the long cloth mopping pad that basically gets wet from the internal water chamber and then gets dragged across the floor. There’s a small vibration to the motion but it’s not the best mopping experience. Attaching the mopping pad is also a royal pain in the rear as it uses two offset holes where the pad is inserted and they are spaced just far enough apart that you kinda snap the pad into place. The instructions say you are supposed to remove the pad before each use and wet it, then attach it and then let it do it’s thing. Our two other robots have docking stations with auto mop cleaning and drying capabilities so for us this extra effort is annoying. Roomba sells a dock for this but we do not have it so my first recommendation would be to buy the dock. When Milo tracks mud in from the backyard the Roomba struggles to clean up the paw prints unless we instruct it to clean the room multiple times. The water tank in the unit is tiny and holds very little water and cleaning solution, and there’s no sensor telling you that the unit is out of water, making it extremely annoying to use this thing as a mop. Overall we’ve learned to avoid this style of mopping pad and we prefer the robots that use two circular mopping pads that spin while mopping.
On the vacuuming side, the Roomba is doing a great job. The floor it cleans are hardwoods with a large area rug in the living room. The floor includes a dining room and the kitchen with a large kitchen island with bar stools along with an office. The Roomba drives faster than the other two robots so it’s always the first to reach the destination and it’s quite good at avoiding the other robots when they are in the same space cleaning. The motor is quiet and it does a great job collecting Milo’s hair. There’s no sensor telling us the container is full which is yet another reason why this thing really needs to be paired with the docking station so that it will auto empty after every cleaning. So far the mapping technology is working well, but like all robot vacuums there are still spots in the house where the robot gets stuck and needs help recovering. It’s a silly thing but one of the most impressive things the Roomba did recently is that I moved the charging station to the other wall while it was cleaning one day. It found its way back to the charging station as if nothing had changed. Impressive. The other two robots would have never achieved this level of common sense.
The Roomba iOS app is cleverly designed to be practically idiot proof, offering a clean and simple interface and the automations for cleaning would allow us to set and forgot this thing like we do with the others if we also bough the docking station. I should note that Roomba does not offer Amazon Alexa or Apple HomeKit integration. We run Home Assistant and there is an integration through the Home Assistant platform which we are going to try to use with it but the lack of native support for home automation is a disappointment.
