...is how an appliance is done well. I am more than pleased and very impressed with how beautiful this dishwasher is on the inside, which is where I spend most of my time with it. It’s pretty outside as well. I’ve cleaned it with Stainless Steel cleaner initially, and fingerprints are not an issue. The control panel just needs a swipe of slightly damp paper towel once in a while to look pristine again.
Wow. It’s super quiet, (pretty much completely silent) and very cooperative with me continuing to add dishes and silverware after the cycle has started. The 3rd rack continues to be fun.
I use the Cascade pods, and it is filled with the sample of Cascade Rinse aid, and the dishes have always been clean and dry. I use the Quick wash cycle along with PowerDry. Once I tried the normal cycle and I’m sorry, but 3 hours is ridiculous for a dishwasher to wash a single load.
One thing I might suggest is, allow the 1/4” extra in the bottom tines placement so that you can move the silverware basket to a horizontal positioning in the very back. It’s roomy and fits a lot.
I would buy this again! The uneventful, pleasant installation and the high quality of the product has persuaded me to stay with this brand for yet another new appliance.
Thank you Kitchen-Aid! Nice job.

New KitchenAid Dishwasher

My home when new came with a very nice JennAir dishwasher, but 17 years later it had washed it’s last dish. I wasn’t really planning on replacing an expensive appliance, but these things never happen at a convenient time, just like when I replaced the refrigerator last year. I always try to upgrade a little whenever I’m forced to buy something like this for our home because I always end up glad I spent the extra money. So I went about the task of researching which dishwashers are the best value in terms of feature set and reliability. As part of my due diligence, I inquired with local repair shops as to brand preference based on reliability and quality of build. The top three were KitchenAid, Maytag, and Bosch (highest models only). JennAir wasn’t even on the short list...ha! Just like an older boxer, they used to be a contender. So the cursory shopping for price begins, and these days I don’t even know why I do that; seems I always end up at Pacific Sales or Best Buy (now one and the same). Literally every single major appliance we have was purchased there. I had to rule out Bosch simply because their higher models (800 & up) incorporate an extra feature that is there only to ensure adequate drying at the end of the cycle. This was done to mitigate the biggest complaint about their washers, that being inadequate drying. I didn’t really like that because in my mind, from a design standpoint that basic of a function should have been built into their machines from the beginning. So if you buy a model 400 or 500 the door opens a little during the drying cycle to get enough airflow to ensure dry dishes. How bush league! So in looking at the KitchenAids (which I liked better than the Maytags due to interior materials as a starting point) I wanted a door with no handle, no controls on the front, and racks with ball bearings so they’re smooth and not noisy when you pull them out. I also liked
that this model had a completely stainless interior, and from what I was told, much thicker then the Japanese competitors LG and Samsung. Imagine dropping a heavy plate or pot onto the door as you’re loading it and ending up with a nice dent in the material! This model also has a third rack on top for flat items that don’t fit well in the other racks when they’re full. It also has these cool bottle washers that you can lay down when you don’t need to use them. Another feature I liked is the removable filter; in my conversations with repair shops I was told that is the number one reason why washers don’t drain. People don’t want to clean their filters or don’t know they can, and after some length of use, especially if you don’t rinse your dishes first, they can get
clogged. The sales associate showed me how easily this reusable filter is to remove, rinse, and replace. Now don’t forget to rinse those filters, kids! The controls for this machine are on the edge of the door, exposed by opening the door slightly, this lends to a very clean and contemporary look when the washer is closed, especially since there is no handle. A recess is provided under the front top edge of the door to open and shut the door. One of the best things I liked is once the dishwasher is operating, a string of LED status lights shows it is washing and when finished that dishes are clean. Very cool looking on that black screen. In the door there are the normal places for detergent tabs (or powder if that floats your boat) and a container for rinse aid. News flash: the detergent pods that are so popular now have rinse aid in them. We already had a big bottle of rinse aid in the cabinet so we’re using it for now. We also have a soft water system for the house so that also helps keep the mineral heavy water of Huntington Beach at bay. Here is probably the numero uno (that means number one for you people that don’t have those grade school Spanish language skills) feature that is apparent every time the washer is used: it is QUIET....I’m talking hear-a-pin-drop quiet. In fact, that was so important to me that I paid an extra $100 on top of the sale price to get the model that is only 39db, compared to the next model down, which is 46db when running. If you don’t think you can hear the difference between the two, go ahead and get the louder one and forever be questioning yourself because then you will hear the difference. It’s okay, you can always buy the quieter model in ten years when it’s time to replace it again. Second guessing your appliance purchasing decisions is no fun, let me tell you. So by now we’ve run about 8 loads through the machine and me and the Mrs. had to marvel at how clean and SHINY (and dry) our dishes came out. It was genuinely a WOW moment for us! All things considered, we have to agree that this was the correct washer to buy and it is better looking than the JennAir, which makes our kitchen look better, which in turn makes me a better husband. Our refrigerator was getting jealous of all the attention we were giving the dishwasher so we have to play it cool now. Another note: the installer added a GFCI J-box and a new quarter turn valve for us to make it an even better install, so we had to pay extra for that but totally worth it. The guy was so nice and professional and did such a great job that I tipped him $20 because you just can’t put a price on satisfaction - well, I guess you can, and for me it was an extra $20. Oh, don’t forget to register your purchase on the KitchenAid website, they will follow up with an email offer to save money on their extended service plans. Do not buy it at time of purchase, it’ll be a better deal if you wait. I got the 3-year plan and you can opt to pay in 3 payments so after some thought I decided the peace of mind for at least 4 years (1 year + 3 extra years) was worth the minimal amount they charged. I hope my ruminations on this purchase were helpful to you. Happy shopping!

This thing is so quiet I have to put my ear next to the unit to tell if it is running. Gets things clean but cycles without drying option take almost 2 hours and drying adds another hour. There is a quick cycle but this is probably not intended for truly soiled full loads. Only complaint is the utensil basket openings are not all the same size and some do not accept our table knives or soup spoon handles. Also the basket has open sections at each end of odd sized items. However this means you have to reach in further to place a utensil in the slots for regular items. Still learning how to adjust the basket configuration and load effectively. Good looking unit too. Did I say it was quiet?

This dishwasher replaced a fairly new Samsung dishwasher that we just weren't happy with.
I don't really have any cons to list for this appliance, I honestly love it.
It is very quiet when running, and you have to really pay attention to know that its even working.
One extremely annoying feature of the samsung was that it would "sing" to you when the dishes are done, by playing this musical tone. That wouldn't normally be an issue but it lasted like 20 seconds and was just beyond annoying with no way to change it, only turn it off. This dishwasher doesn't do that, it only plays a brief non-annoying tone.
As far as cleaning dishes goes, this thing is a rockstar. I use the recommended Cascade Platinum pods and Finish Jet Dry with it and I get sparkling dishes every single time with few exceptions (which are usually because something wasn't put in correctly or was just too dirty) and really have no issues with cleaning.
I was worried about my water pressure at my home when I had the Samsung because it was just terrible at getting dishes clean even though it was equipped with a food disposer, but it was basically useless. I would have left over soap on the door leading me to believe it was water pressure related, until I spoke with a BB employee who let me know that the dishwashers are supposed to create their own pressure.
This dishwasher looks brand new every time I open it with zero residue leftover on the door.
Very very happy with this purchase and every KitchenAid appliance I have in my home. I will never buy another brand again.

The rack setting is streamlined to prevent water from settling in the cups and bowls if you know how to do it. The dish rack is a bit too wide so less dishes can be placed inside ... would do better to be a little narrower. The roof rack is useless so we just removed it to allow for more space for the top rack. There are enough washing options but we have only used the normal options for washing & drying thus far as that's the vast majority of our washes (we always clear food debris before putting the dishes inside.) But the one thing that prevents me from giving this product a 5 star is that half the time, after choosing our options, we would hit start (the start button lights up) and closed the door and it would beep and not functioning, apparently not liking something and we would have no idea what is the problem. The struggle can last a few minutes of canceling, then retrying, closing the door more tightly, closing the door less tightly, pushing in the racks deeper, before the washer would start, and we have yet to figure out what is the ideal way to close the door for the washer to get going right away. The manual does not help. This is a bit of a concern for us down the road if the start is that sensitive to whatever it is sensitive to. Other than that, the dishes do look nice and clean upon completion. Do use rinse aid as the manual says because the few times that we don't use rinse aid, a lot of water drops still cling all over the inside if we open it right after it finished. And it is super quiet, too quiet that the first few usage, I had to stick my ear right next to it to hear if it's doing the work! Overall, it is a nice looking washer and so far, we are happy with it.

I chose the front door design to avoid running into the handle. The front panel looks sleek. It cleans very well and is very quiet. Unfortunately, the stainless steel trim on the front panel is not stainless steel, it’s plastic. Shameful for a $1300 dishwasher

I love this dishwasher! It comes with the ability to be installed either hard wired or as a plug in which was important in my situation. The washer itself is fantastic at cleaning all type of dirty dishes. Pre-washing is unnecessary, but you will want to remove as much food as possible to keep the filter clean. I literally have yet to put a dish in for cleaning that has not come out sparkling. And it is quiet, very quiet. It is energy efficient, so the cycles do take a while to complete. However, I just run it overnight and it's quiet enough that it doesn't keep anyone awake. Plus, it looks sleek and stylish.

This was my second choice for a new dishwasher. Initially purchased a Bosch, which didn’t fit in my cabinet.
The knowledgeable and helpful installer from Best Buy assisted me in selecting this comparable model, which has an adjustable base.
This dishwasher cleans well and is sturdy. Also, it’s very quiet. The racks are adjustable and easy to load. The digital display indicates the status of the cleaning cycles.
It’s definitely equal to if not better than the 11 year old Viking model it replaced, at a much lower cost.
The reason for 4 instead of 5 stars is that the 3rd rack holds only very flat items.

Glad I ignored some poor past reviews. Does a fantastic job at cleaning and almost completely dries. I couldn't expect more. Third rack easy to remove if you have occasion for tall wine glasses. Long Cycle does not bother me since bedtime is when it goes on and so super quiet! Not my first dishwasher and this replaced a Bosch that I wasn't happy with. Went back to kitchenaid and happy I did.

Easy to program and has many convenient features. Can adjust middle rack allowing larger plates and pots or glassware. Other than quick wash, cycles do take a while as these new machines are very water and energy efficient. Extremely low noise level. Can't tell if it's on or off other than front panel letting you know the progress of the cycle.
Installers were excellent.

We remodeled our house just recently and we knew we would purchase Kitchen Aid products. After reviewing so many I’m glad we chose this one. Omg it’s so quiet you’ll have to check to make sure it’s actually running. The inside being stainless is easy to wipe up and never shows water spots. It is so amazing and gets our dishes clean on the first round. I especially love the express wash... so quick... plz get this if you’re a fan of luxury!

Can't believe how quiet! The third tray is awesome and a great feature I didn't even realize it had until it arrived was three bottle washers on the top rack. You place your bottle over them and they have their own ports to spray water directly into the bottle. Awesome feature!

Third rack practically useless.

We needed to replace our Whirlpool dishwasher, which I’d say a similar new version was in the $400 range. While I didn’t originally intend on getting a “nicer” dishwasher, the more I did online research and looked in the store, we felt good about spending more on this KitchenAid.
Pros - very quiet which was a selling point for my wife as the noise from our old one annoyed her; a lot of various wash/dry/sanitize options; stainless steel interior; easy gliding drawers; we got free delivery & installation because we are in Best Buy’s Total Tech Support (look up which brands apply)
Cons - none. I’ve saw some complaints about how long it takes - yes it takes longer, but that extra 30-60 minutes doesn’t really matter to me.
I like how Whirlpools have the utensils in the door and I thought I’d miss that but I’m fine. I’m also indifferent on the third upper tray we have - now that we have it I know I could have taken or left it.
A great product and even better if on sale and with the Total Tech Support perk.

I purchased this dishwasher to replace an initial faulty KitchenAid dishwasher (the slightly less fancy version, 234GPS). The bottle washers are very nice. I haven't noticed much difference with the drying feature yet. The fingerprint resistant finish is great - You can wipe it with a damp cloth and call it a day! No stainless steel cleaner necessary! It's very quiet and seems sturdy. My only complaint is that the glossy black handle scratches easily. If you have large cereal bowls like me, then this dishwasher is a better fit than Bosch dishwashers. Good luck with your purchase!
