    Does Not Dry

I purchased this dishwasher almost a year ago when our dishwasher died on Thanksgiving. I went out shopping, really wanting a Bosch, since we had owned one before. Our first stop was one of the big home improvement stores and the salesman warned us that while both brands were pretty comparable, the KitchenAid would not dry the dishes as well as a Bosch. But before we purchased anything, we ran over to Best Buy to compare prices. We typically buy all our appliances there anyway and it was the day after Thanksgiving so there was a sale. The BB salesman spoke so highly of the KitchenAid over the Bosch, buying American over European, better repair time etc. that during the pitch, we completely forgot about the dry dishes problem. So kudos to him! I would say it performs well as far as washing the dishes. It is the most quiet dishwasher we have ever owned, which is important when your kitchen opens to the family room. I have had people stand right in front of it while it is running and not know that it was washing dishes. But it simply does not DRY the dishes, even with it's heated dry cycle. Every time I empty the dishwasher, I have to hand dry EVERYTHING, including the silverware. If I wanted to have to hand dry everything, I would just wash them all myself. I expect a dishwasher to sanitize my dishes and deliver clean, dry dishes to put in my cabinet. But when I have to use a dish towel to hand dry everything, they are no longer sanitized as far as I am concerned. Plastic dishware is the worst offender but if you have kids, you have plastic. I appreciate that they are trying to be more energy efficient, use less water, and make less noise, but I HATE having to dry the dishes every time I use it. I have let the dishes sit in there after a cycle for more than a day before emptying it and they are STILL wet. If I could still return it, I think I would. I only wish I had not waited so long to get fully disgusted. So if you want a super quiet dishwasher that really cleans well but does a terrible job at drying, then this is your machine. Just stock up on dishtowels.

I replaced a 9+ year old dishwasher with this KitchenAid one. I had seen that Consumer Reports rated a KitchenAid model highly, but Best Buy did not have that exact one. The salesperson ran a comparison of that one and this model and explained that this was a newer model that had the additional feature of the third rack on top, which I liked, so I went with it. After going through the whole purchase process, it turns out the item of not in stock, and the first available installation date once it would be back in stock was almost a month away. Good thing my old dishwasher was still mostly functional! The Best Buy installers quickly installed it and showed me the features. It is definitely quiet, but not silent as other reviews imply. You can definitely hear the water running in it if you are in the kitchen. However, it is much better soundproofed than my old dishwasher. The adjustable middle rack is a nice feature, although I have to keep it in the upper position since my dinner plates, which are standard sized, would not fit with on the bottom rack if the top rack is in the lower positions. The 3rd rack on top is nice for utensils and lids. The door on this stainless steel model is quite heavy and solid. The handle has a diamond-etched design to it, which camouflages fingerprints. The cutlery rack is large, but the slots in it are too small for forks to be inserted with the tines down. Just be careful unloading since the tines will have to be pointed up at you! You can remove the lid of the cutlery rack to wash them tines down, but then all the utensils could end up nested with each other. The heating element gets very hot. I ran a regular cycle one morning, and about six hours later, when I opened the door, it was still noticeably warm inside. Despite that, there was still some water on the plastic items, and especially on the items in the 3rd rack on top. The true test was a glass that had white spots from tap water deposits. It came out about 50% better than my old dishwasher, but still needed some elbow grease to get out some of the spots. Overall, I am very happy with this dishwasher.

I just purchased this DW (Kitchen Aid model KDTW254ess) & have had installed for about a week - i previously had a portable DW. My area has soft water. (even though BB & delivery team was great I will only comment on the DW itself not on anything that doesn't pertain to this DW.) I was deciding between this and the 2 German DW - i ultimately chose this model for the looks (i love the industrial handle design - i saw one reviewer complain about these handles - well don't buy something you think is ugly - KA has different styles), it uses more water than the German models (in some cycles), i wanted a 3rd rack that wasn't fussy, i wanted a heating element & i wanted it quiet. I would use my portable DW about once a week - but i have had my KA installed for a week and have used it 4 times - i will admit once was be cause i just brushed again the control buttons and i couldn't figure out how to stop the blinking so i ran a cycle! This DW is quiet - i have an open kitchen and living room & i sometimes hear the echo of water through the sink drain (its my understanding only one other German dw is 1 decible quieter). So from going from a portable DW to this KA DW - its nearly silent. really its cleans so well just as you would expect - squeaky clean. It dries just as well too even the tops of my tea cuts are dry. i use the 3rd rack for measuring cups and large serving utensils. The control panel is very sensitive so just be mindful of this when loading up dishes that aren't ready to be washed. I cannot comment on how this will last as i've only had it a week - but my KA stand mixer is 11 years old and still looks & functions as new. I couldn't be happier with this DW. The only negative for me (but not for the DW) is that i missed the best sale price of $50 extra dollars off by a week & now its on sale for the $799 that i was hoping to buy it for & this certainly does not affect how much i love this DW. This DW is regularly on sale for $799 so if you are in the market for this definitely try finding it for 799. (I will update this review at a later date if needed.)

    Best Dishwasher Ever!!

I absolutely love this dishwasher! I have a large family so capacity is a big deal. I can lower the glass rack to fit tall glasses and my plates will still fit in the bottom. The shallow upper rack allows me to wash all my silverware in the top, so I removed the silverware basket from the bottom giving me even more space for bowls and large items. The dishwasher is so quiet I can not hear that it is on. The indicator light is blue when washing, red for drying and white when cycle is finished. This is one of the few higher end dishwashers that still has a heating element. My dishes always come clean and I am able to pack it with more dishes than any other dishwasher I've ever had. I also have real hard water but this dishwasher leaves absolutely no residue behind. This is honestly the best dishwasher I've ever used. The installers were great too. They were very polite, prompt and professional. They cleaned up after themselves and were careful to make sure they didn't damage my wood floors or cabinetry. The sales team at BBuy were fabulous as well. I must've looked at every dishwasher 50db and lower in the store. They really helped me make a decision that suited my needs the best, pointing out things that I would've never thought of. Overall, I could not be happier with my experience.

    1. Does not match my existing Kitchen Aid appliances 2. Large glasses do not fit in the glass tray due to 3rd shelf 3. Spreading silverware on top shelf is time consuming. It is faster to wash them by hand! If they aren't perfectly placed they don't get clean, especially spoons. 4. 6th months after purchase it stopped working. 5. Buttons on top are difficult to press - half the time the dishwasher doesn't even start 7. On a positive note, it is very quiet... so quiet that we can't tell it has started (but half the time it doesn't even start). 6. Customer service for the repair is terrible. We've been in an automated loop for almost an hour. At this point I don't even care that I have warranty. Who is going to refund the lost time i will have for the next week for handing washing dishes for a family of 5? Not to mention taking time off work twice for the repairman who inevitably have to order a part. I invested in a $1,200 dishwasher because i wanted it to WORK! I absolutely hate this dishwasher and am seriously reconsidering an investment in remodeling my kitchen with new Kitchen Aid appliances. If you are going to market high-end appliances then they should jolly well PERFORM!!!!!!!

Sub-optimized for Quiet at Cost to Other Features

We got real focused on the ultra-quietness of this unit...and it really, really is super quiet when washing (fill and drain just as loud as any other). I also loved the "cabinet-style" rack runners, which were the highest quality and strength of any we had seen. But just like any time you focus on one or two features, the others may suffer. While it does have heated dry (unlike the comparable Bosch), it is too short and not hot enough, so it never dries completely, especially plastic. The cycles are too long (needed to clean effectively due to the wimpy wash power (to keep the noise low). The third rack is not usable with regular utensils because it lacks the long flexible fingers to hold them in place like the Bosch. This unit has short, hard, stubby tangs that are too small to hold anything in place. With the middle rack in the lowered position, we can't get our dinner plates in the lower rack. With the middle rack in the upper position, we can't get tall glasses in it. The end-of-cycle signal is too quiet to be of any use. The "barbell grade" stainless steel handle looks totally out of place and inappropriate for a kitchen; belongs in a gym.

Hang on to your old machine if you can

We replaced a 15 year old machine with this one after reading reviews and looking at test ratings. First, know that all machines made today have to meet government "efficiency" stands, which means that they run three times as long as your old machine and use half as much water. No kidding: takes about 3 hours to run a normal cycle, more if you "sanitize." This unit is indeed whisper quiet, though, so you don't notice it running all that time. We decided on this unit vs. a Bosch because you can't get a heating element in a Bosch any longer. As far as cleaning results, not as good as the machine it replaced. The machine cleans by running longer cycles with dirtier water, so set your expectations. While most dishes come clean, every load has more than a couple that aren't. We're still playing with arranging the dishes and trying different detergents; maybe we'll hit the sweet spot. And even with the heating element, there's always moisture and wet dishes. Still, buy this one if you need one. The EPA has proposed new rules that will require future machines to use even less water and power. One can only imagine the results those will produce.

I spent a significant amount of time researching dishwasher models to replace the 6 year old Samsung that was in our house when we purchased it but was working very poorly. I decided on the KitchenAid kdte254ess based on the reviews and trade-off of cost versus performance/features. It has been 3 weeks since install and I have been very pleased with the dishwasher. It is extremely quiet, does an excellent job cleaning the dishes and I have been surprised at how well it dries the dishes given a few of the reviews that indicated drying problems. We did remove the 3rd rack from our dishwasher since we have tall plates on the lower rack and tall glasses on the 2nd rack that prevent use of the 3rd rack but I expected that would be the case when we purchased it. If we ever replace our large plates with something smaller I can reconfigure the racks and use the 3rd. The one surprise is that depending on the options I select for a cycle, it can take up to 4 hours to finish. While I don't find that a problem for our household it does seem excessive. I can't comment on long term performance since it has only been 3 weeks, but I am very pleased with this purchase so far.

I hesitate to give 5 stars, but 4 wouldn't be fair to this darn near flawless dishwasher! Installed by Best Buy Delivery one month ago. Requires getting used to the different height setups and standard issues with making sure the wands can spin when loaded etc. The 3rd rack is great when needed. The smooth-glide drawers are the BEST. So much smoother than any of the other brands. Cleans my dishes completely but does take a long time depending on the cycle. Very aesthetically pleasing. I really like being able to raise/lower the upper rack. That is a very handy feature. Highly recommend this model. Was somewhat expensive but Best Buy customer service used a coupon code from my email to give me 10% off so that made it slightly less expensive. If I had it to do over again, I would more than likely pick the exact same dishwasher. Go into the nearest Best Buy or appliance shop and "feel" the merchandise. You should be able to tell the quality difference just by opening and shutting doors & sliding baskets in/out. Ultimately that's how a landed on this model in particular. And Best Buy gave me the best price!

    So Quiet. Does Not Dry

We purchased this dishwasher because of the high ratings. Only had 9 days but have used about 6 times. 1. Very quiet! 2. Cleans well 3. Love the 3rd rack 4. DOES NOT DRY WELL!!!! Thinking about returning this. Not as much work to hand dry if you do it right after the cycle ends due to the heat. If you leave dishes in thinking they will dry, they won't. 5. Very nice design. Bought the slide in range (LOVE IT) to go with and was going to get the fridge (great design!) to match but need to see if the drying issue can be resolved. I called Kitchenaid and they said something about it taking a cpl of months and then the problem will go away. Not sure I want to take that chance. 6. Best Buy customer service has been excellent but it would be more helpful if they had more info regarding some of the common issues.

I purchased this dishwasher because it was recommended by a consumer magazine and I was fortunate enough to get a floor model for a fraction of the original price. It is extremely quiet and I only hear it when it is draining. It has a third rack which seemed like it would give me more room for washing items, but instead it minimizes the available space on the upper rack. If you lower the upper rack for more space, then the wash arm hits standard size plates on the lower rack. Also the silverware basket is very large and takes too much of the bottom rack. There are some sliding tines that I had hoped would make placing large bowls in the bottom easier but does not work well. It may be more effective for some other large items. In my old dishwasher I washed large cutting boards by placing them on the side but the wash arms extend the entire width making this impossible. So far it seems to clean fairly well. Unfortunately, I have to wash larger items by hand and run more loads to clean the same number of dishes. One load also ended up with some greasy black spots on 2 plastic plates but that has not occurred since. My previous dishwasher had a hard food chopper which I think I prefer. It may make a little more noise but it I feel like it is more effective. I wish I had returned this dishwasher while I had the chance. Now I will just live with it. One more thing, the stainless is a fingerprint magnet.

    Great dishwasher / bad install

I shopped around and no one could beat Best Buys price and free installation. I waited several weeks for the free install and when it got scheduled the guy was very accomadating. He called 30 minutes before he showed to install the dishwasher and I left work to meet him at my house. I don't generally judge people from first impression but I was happy I met them and it wasn't my wife who met them to do the install. If you know what I mean. The two guys spent about 30 minutes and the install was finished. I offered the guy $20 for lunch and he and his partner took off and I did the same. My wife came home before me and call to say how happy she was to finally have the new dishwasher installed. She was a little concerned that when she opened the dishwasher door the shelved rolled out but I told her they probably needed to be adjusted. When I got home I saw the dishwasher was installed with the top tilted out so the racks rolled out whenever you opened the door. I read the directions and found the installers didn't adjust the rear wheels to allow it to be level. I didn't call those guys back, I disconnected the dishwasher and adjusted the wheels myself and now everything works fine. I was surprised no one from Best Buy ever asked if I was happy, no quality control. But we love the Kitchen Aid dishwasher.

1st unit installed smelled funny like oil when it ran the Prowash & was moist around the lower left corner. Many of the cycles ran for much longer than they were suppose to. One time it ran for nearly 6 hours! The buttons didn't work correctly all the time either. BB was Awesome! They exchanged it for a new one when I called on the 14th day. It took about a week to get the new one however. The 2nd Unit doesn't seem to have the same problems. It cleans the dishes great! I rinse way less than I did with previous dishwashers. Many big spoons don't fit in the 3rd rack b/c it doesn't adjust. Therefore we don't use it much. Space in the upper, big rack is smaller than the washers I'm used to. I would skip the 3rd rack if I had to do it again. SS is difficult to keep clean! Every time we put dishes in our hands are wet, usually dirty too. That just runs down the front and makes it look messy. If you can skip the SS I think it would be better too. Overall it cleans great and I do like it better than our previous dishwasher which was 13 years old.

We had a Kitchenaid dishwasher previously and were happy with it, so when it started operating erratically, we looked for a replacement. This model is quite similar to our old one, but several new features, including a third drawer (which is practically useless and we removed it), an adjustable bottom rack (which so far seems more awkward than helpful), a full suspension bottom rack (which doesn't slide as effortlessly as the floor model), and a top mounted control panel (which, while hidden, is actually more inconvenient). We wanted black to match our other appliances, but black is now an expensive option... so we have stainless steel (which seems to show every fingerprint). Would have loved the new black stainless steel, but it was not available on this particular model (we don't understand why...). We also do not like the new 'industrial' looking door handle. The dishwashing seems good, but a little finicky. You need to be sure the detergent compartment "clicks" when closed or the dishwasher will not start, and the top panel means you need to close the door quickly after selecting 'start'. We have had this unit several weeks and are still testing different settings, but cleaning and drying seem to be somewhat inconsistent. Overall, it seems to do a good job most of the time.

I purchase this to replace my Samsung that I purchase in 2014. I did a lot of searching and came across this one. The specs, reviews, both here and online, in addition to the YouTube review swayed me. I made the purchase and after some delivery scheduling mishaps (overbooking!), IT arrived and it is the best dishwasher I have ever had. One, it actually cleans the dishes. Really, really well. And the power scrub feature is amazing. Second, it is beyond quite. You barely know this thing is running, even when standing right up on it. IT is that quiet. Third, the drying feature is golden. Dishes actually come out dry. And lastly, the build quality. The racks are quality, the dishes fit in them solidly and securely. The tub, filters, and door, "feel" solid. The "middle" rack height is adjustable, up and down. The 3rd, top rack is awesome. This thing is a beast. I feel fortunate to have found and purchased this piece. As with the Samsung, which I am highly disappoint with, especially given what I paid for it and I am replacing it only 3 years later, time will time how well this machine hold up, wear and tear, maintenance and all. I did purchase the service plan this time, so we will see.

I did a lot of research before purchasing this dishwasher. We've had it now for a few months and so far I'm quite happy. The overall look of the dishwasher is really nice. I was worried at first that we might get caught on the handle because it sticks out more than most dishwashers, but even though we have an island right across from the unit, no one has had that problem. The layout of the dishwasher is very nice as well. Lots of room and I love the 3rd rack. The top rack also holds quite a bit and has a great little basket for small items which are perfect for my kid's drink straws. When the dishwasher is running you can barely tell, it's so quiet. Honestly it's a good thing the light changes color when it's done or I would probably open it mid-cycle not knowing it wasn't done. There are a few cons, but nothing major, The biggest being that a full cycle runs about 3 hours, which is really long compared to my last dishwasher. The dishes do come out nice and clean though. Also the heated dry doesn't work quite as well as my old dishwasher, but I just open the door and let them finish air drying if needed. Overall this is a great dishwasher and I am so happy with our choice to buy it.

Having purchased this dishwasher almost a week ago, I wish that I could actually review this dishwasher's performance, but I unfortunately have no idea how it performs. What I can say about my BestBuy purchase is that I am not at all satisfied with Best Buy's customer service. When my husband tried to install it, he found that it was badly damaged, apparently being dropped at some point along the way. The bottom back of the dishwasher was severely bent in places, and actually broken in other places... I expected a better response from Best Buy customer service; (I actually work in customer service myself.) I expected them to do whatever it took to make it right, but what I got was no expedited delivery, no free installation...not even an apology. Their response was indifferent at best; I guess this is something they deal with a lot, and once they have your money, they couldn't care less. This is not an inexpensive dishwasher. I will think twice before doing business with Best Buy in the future; next time, I'll take my business to a smaller, local appliance store who will actually appreciate my business. If you are having anything delivered, do your due diligence and inspect it thoroughly before the delivery guys leave.

Amazingly quiet, does a good job getting maybe 98 percent of the dirt. Love the way the middle rack can adjust to accomodate larger glasses on the 2nd rack or larger dishes on the bottom rack. The top silverware rack is good for large utensils or anything flat that might not fit easily into bottom rack. But the individual dividers on the top rack are not deep enough IMO to use the intended way for silverware. Overall though, great buy, great value after six months of good use. Worked out even better when I was able to get it with free installation from BB as well. Important note, this model, as well as several others by Kitchenaid, are open on the bottom. That may be important to some buyers such as myself. I originally wanted to order a different brand but they were all CLOSED on the bottom. And since my cabinet opening and electric supply/water hose were all intended for OPEN bottom dishwashers, the installers would not even attempt to install unless the model was OPEN bottom.

Did my extensive homework as usual about this product vs. others prior to going into the store. Went to the local store in Sarasota and was trailed by the asssociate whom I had to ask for help from. He had NO idea about the machine, and steered me to other brands. Specific questions asked by me were ignored or completely wrong. dimbulb. Took a pic of the machine/price/model number etc. and vowed to myself not to come back. Went to HD (higher price) but they could not delver for 2 weeks. waited over night to calm down and went back tp BB. Price jumped $250 ?!? New dimbumb asssociate would not ask the supervisor to accept previous night's price. Left the store, and called the mgr immediately and pointedly and painfully explained the re-train his asssociate needed in manners. I didn't ever demand the old price, but asked. He agreed and said they would honor the original price. Came back to the store and was met by store mgr. I asked "are you a man of your word?" he said 'yes'. 10 minutes later we walked out of there with paperwork in hand. Two day delivery....and I even bought the extended warranty because he made it right. ...oh yeah....the dishwasher is working flawlessly.

It's been 1 month. Previous Samsung started chirping at 5 years and not running full cycle any longer. Also was not as quite as this. This Kitchenaid is so quiet you can't hear it standing in front of it. Actual Handle is a nice feature rather then a cutout to reach under and grab. The racks slide very smoothly. I did not like the noisy, rough sliding action of the racks sliding in and out on the Samsung. So far it seems to clean really well. Only 1 instance of some food on a plate after probably 25 washes. Dryer works well, Top flat rack is a nice feature that we do use. Flexible width adjustment on the bottom rack for deep dishes. nice knife basket. I installed it with my Son-in-law and it took 1 1/2 hours including removing the existing D/W. Be aware you need to get a 90 degree hose adapter that is not used on most other dishwashers. It was a $6.00 item but I had to stop and go to the hardware store for it. The instructions do point it out, but it is not laid out in the page of the manual so as to be clear. Silly they don't include it.
