Ive been wanting this drive for the longest! And the wait was worth it!!!!

I've owned this drive for several months now and I'm not very happy with the performance. Although this is a USB-C/USB 3.1 drive, it's extremely slow due to the spinning hard drive. I knew what I was buying when I decided to purchase this model, but I did not expect the transfer speeds to be THIS slow. I get about 50-60 MB/s transfer speed benchmarked using Blackmagic Disk Speed Test. Drive is connected to a Thunderbolt 3 port on an iMac capable of a theoretical 40 Gb/s. This drive might as well be connected to a USB 2.0 port and you still wouldn't max out USB 2.0 transfer speeds. Bottom line, the bottleneck is the spinning hard drive, not the interface, and from the looks of it, this is one heck of a slow spinning drive. I thought I might be able to use this to expand my video editing library on iMovie, but I was very wrong. Unusable for anything other than storage. You can't run anything live from this drive and expect any kind of usable performance.

It doesn’t work with my MacBook. I plugged it in and it lit up but I couldn’t put anything in it. Now matter how big or small the file was. Usually hard drives are easy to use but this one proved to be difficult.

Great little external drive. This is my 3rd one, (other two still working, just full). Very fast transfer speeds, read/write etc. It does get a little warm under strain, but not hot. Wish they would come in larger capacities in this form factor. I install data circuits for businesses etc., and I’ve seen these used as a daily back up scenario, so I know its popular and reliable. Would definitely recommend.

This has been the only drive I have used on the road since it came out. It is durable and gets the job done. The usb-c is fast enough to get transfers and communicates all computers beautifully. I feel confident and safe as using it for storage on the road and at home. I just ordered my 3rd one from Best Buy and will continue to make a pile of these as long as I am in photography and video production.

Great value for a rugged external drive. Only reason for the missing star is that the drive is a platter drive instead of an SSD. I would've preferred an SSD for this price point. But Lacie is a trusted brand and the transfer speeds are excellent.

I love this storage solution! It holds a huge amount of my media, making it a great alternative to Google Drive and iCloud. It's also very compact & durable. The only drawback is the time it takes for data transfers.

Out of all the external hard drives this one is the best value and provides the best protection of your data. 5T for optimal storage and for the amount of storage is the best deal. While the solid state drives (SSD) provide a longevity advantage of the data, this product has a rubber protective case and recovery software if your device is ever damaged or compromised.

This is my second purchase of this external hard drive - YES, It’s that good. One of the only brands that I trust to backup my most important files to. The USB-C connection makes it easy to connect to my MacBook Pro without having to use dongles and adapters. The rubber bumper also gives me peace of mind when I transport the drive. This drive is reliable and very well made. Highly recommended.
