I also tried putting in some software and had no problems. The small, slim size of this drive does not take up much space on my computer desk.

LG DVD Drive

Information provided says it also supports BluRay format, but I have not used this. If you install the "default" device software supplied, this includes an LG Toolkit component, which will run fwupdate.exe every time you boot up, and you will see a popup window asking if you grant permission. The only way to get rid of this annoying "feature" is to de-install the LG Toolkit, which I did, and it does not seem to have caused any problems or loss of function so far. Be aware that, with Win 8.1, you will have to install software to support DVD video playback [not native to Win 8.1]. Free download of VLC Media Player has worked for my needs.

It worked on adding some needed software to both. Seems portable enough. Wish it would have had some type of plastic protective shell/box to keep it safe in a laptop bag. I would have paid a few more dollars if it came with that!

It made no sense to pay for the repair of my computer's internal drive when I couldn't even get an estimate of the cost. For a modest sum I saved the time, expense and trouble of a repair.

And who needs a DVD drive anymore, right? Well... I did recently. I selected this drive as it has a nice durable and aesthetically pleasing metal case. In addition, it performs well. If you need an external DVD drive, you can buy this one with confidence.

Great option for Mac and PC

This was cheaper than the options provided through Apple yet just as effective. I have been more than happy with my purchase and continue to recommend this option to friends and family
