Cameras are great but programming is.. interesting
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Camera Quality and ease of install is great! The camera mounting brackets are the same spaced out holes as my Swann Security Cameras that we are replacing. I like the ease of use on the app. But there is NO DESKTOP APP. So if you want to change any of the advanced settings remotely, good luck. You can only do it from the hard drive in your home. The lights on the cameras are great, they definitely attract attention as intended. The siren though, could be a little louder. I live in a quiet neighborhood so you CAN hear them, but if you lived anywhere next to a main street it would be very difficult to hear.

Works as advertised, but can not get support
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The DVR and included cameras work very well, but it is a very limited system. When I tried to add to the system, it turns out that this specifc DVR has limited options for adding cameras. The Lorex website shows numerous options, but none are available. Prior to leaving a less than optimal review, I have tried to contact Lorex to see if other cameras would be available or are discontinued, but have had to send messages 4-5 times to get a reply, and then if I reply to the response I never get another reply. What it does, it does well, but limited options for expanding and you are basically on your own working out problems.

Not Great Quality
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. One channel of the DVR has stopped working. I've only used 4 of the 8 channels, so thats a 25% fail rate. Everything is plastic, including the mounting brackets. Cameras could be easily pulled off the wall. The DVR could be 1/4 the size. It comes with a mouse, but it's a toy. The software is okay, but the motion detection is limited to fairly large areas. One great feature is the ability to record on any or all cameras when motion is detected on any other camera. I would not buy this again. I would spend more and get a quality, metal-construction camera system.

Could be the best, but...
||Posted . Owned for 1.5 years when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I’ve owned a few Lorex systems and all work good. 100x easier to setup vs the previous models. This system could be the best if the company would spend the time to prefect it! Camera visually is excellent, the plastic body is horrible. The crack very easy and good luck trying to get the company to write you back!! We had one camera act up showing lines in the image but they come and go. The app is ok and is where they need to spend the time.

Color Night Vision Not Working
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've been trying to contact Lorex Technology for almost one month with regards to the color night vision not working properly. Some nights one or two cameras show in color but most nights none at all. I am now trying to contact Best Buy to assist with this matter since I purchased the product from them. I've also tried to contact Lorex to share the device with my husband so that he may have access to the camera system on his phone as well. I have yet to receive a response and the only method is to complete an online contact form from their website. This item was purchased for it's intended use and listed features. The product is great and the HD resolution is awesome. I am giving 3 stars for the non response of Lorex and the malfunction of features that made me want to purchase this system initially.

Good system but app is developed poorly
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The system overall is great. Good quality camera and dvr. The dvr doesn’t work with all monitors though and the app is very ineffective. I had the system right next to my router and plugged in but the video rarely loads on my app and when motion is detected the feed cuts off. But overall recording quality is great and playback on the dvr is good.

Only 7 FPS false alerts from trees
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. We purchased this particular set up because it boasted that it could differentiate between things that emitted heat such as people, animals, vehicles and as such wouldn't give off false alarms from swaying tree branches and the like; but it doesn't. You have to deselect the alarm areas that you don't want monitored to keep the cameras from alerting on trees and swaying plants. Also, there are boasts of 30 frames per second (FPS) which prevents blurring of moving objects however, this is not an option with a 4k system, the highest fps you can get is 15 and its not with this set of cameras, these only get 7 fps. The color and clarity during the day is very good, but even with significant ambient lighting at night from a street lamp, we're still unable to get color images. Our cameras in the front of the house are only 60 feet at most away from the end of our driveway and yet when I pause an image during playback and zoom in on it, while it's not pixelated like a 1080 resolution, it's not sharp and crisp like I was expecting from a 4k system. IF we didn't get this system at half price on a Best Buy black Friday sale, I would have returned it. In conclusion, IF you have very bright ambient lighting, IF you get the better 4k cameras that will record at 15 fps, and IF you're only going out to maybe 30 feet or so Then you might want to consider this system, otherwise I suggest you keep shopping.

Good system, higher end for a DIY camera system
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I would recommend this Camera system for someone that's trying to just have some cameras upon their house and see what's going on. It's got a great picture functions are is easy to use. But if you're looking for something that is more high and I have to go to a private security company to get the cameras that you would want. But I would recommend this for sure to do-it-yourself system

Don’t recommend for the price
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Hard to set up sound don’t work. Alarm is not load. Light on it is worthless. And customer service. Is in India. Good luck with that hard to under stand. And they don’t know about cameras. It seems like there just reading from a trouble shooting book. I do not recommend this product

Should work for most
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The thought of having 4K cameras with a beefy storage unit sounds amazing. That is if it works for your situation. First off lets start with the setup. Connecting the storage unit is quite easy. HDMI connection an Ethernet connection and the power. There it 2TB of storage so you could record non-stop on all the cameras for about a month and a half without reaching the units limit! Once you get into the software there are a LOT of options and many are not intuitive. There is a mobile app but it is pretty much limited to viewing the cameras remotely. It is easy to configure the app. All you have to do is scan the code on the side of the main unit. On to the install. I had very specific locations for the cameras to be mounted. This is where the problems arose. Two of the locations were about 110 and 120 feet away from the unit. The included cables are 60 feet so I had two options, buy an additional cable to connect to the included ones or buy a single cable that would run the entire distance. I decided that I would add on to the existing cable. Fast forward, all the cables are in place and ready to go. So I connect the cable to the head unit and then proceed to the first camera. I keep my phone with me to pull up the app to see how things look. Plug in the first camera and no picture! I hear the camera "clicking" but noting appears. Maybe a bad camera? Tried a different camera with the same result. Maybe there was something wrong with the cabling? Tried a different location with the same result. The first two I started with were the most distant from the head unit. Tried one that was with about 40 feet and it came on with a picture! Tried the other close location and it worked too. Went to the Lorex website and opened a ticket. I have to say they are extremely responsive!! Not only did I receive an email, I also received a phone call. First recommendation was to drop the resolution from 4k to 2k :(. Tried that and still nothing. It was determined that over 100' it may not work! So if you can install with the included cables and not need an extension you'll probably be fine. I have to say that the picture quality of the cameras that are connected are excellent! I have not been able to activate the lights that are on the cameras even though that is supposed to be a supported feature. Something else to be aware of. There is no desktop application for the system. If you want to view your cameras on your desktop/laptop computer you will need to get the IP address from the dashboard and type that into your web browser. This will only work when you are on your network. This will not work when you're away from your location. When you're away you are limited to your mobile device. Here's an even bigger problem for most, the head unit only supports Internet Explorer!! If you use Chrome, Opera, Fire Fox or even Edge you're out of luck. The only browser plugin available is for IE. Really Lorex? This system almost seems like it wasn't ready for prime-time, but if you can get past a few qwerks, it might get the job done. I would only recommend this system to someone who is somewhat tech savvy and who's setup would not exceed the limits of the system.

I would still recommend even after knocking 2 star
||Posted . Owned for 1 year when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Knocked off 2 stars since the remote camera siren function doesn't work all the time. Nor can I get the video to record audio. Cust support says both issues are a software issue and to look for the next upgrade which hasn't come even though I've had for a year and a half. I would still recommend as I mainly purchased for video capabilities as 4K better than my old 640 system that died.

Decent software. Only records at 7fps.
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've had wireless and wired cameras that can record at 30fps and playback looks smooth. This system will only record at 7fps. This makes playback of recorded footage very jerky. Any hardwired camera that records to a local hard drive should be able to record at a smooth 30 fps.

3 out of 4 cameras are good.
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The camera installation went well. One camera is blurry and we have an RGA set up for it but it's a daunting process. Tech support was pretty good, but it depended on the person you get.

Great cameras for the $
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Great cameras For the $. Got them during a sale. Have the tech plan but best buy wanted $700 to install (this is including the discount). That was a lot more then I paid for the cameras.
