Being my first surveillance system, I wasn't sure how hard it would be to set one up. I am a technical person and while I have never completed a wiring run or run wires through walls, I can say this is the hardest part about the setup. Once you get through this step, the rest of the setup is easy. I have done much research and through my research, I have always found experts and in general, people who own a camera system, say it is better to have a wired system vs wireless. While I will not talk about all the benefits, a few are not worrying about batteries, wireless security, and it affecting your network performance. After running the cables to the Lorex DVR, their setup was very easy and simple. Although a few of their menus to navigate around the different settings looks complicated (they have lots of features), they take you step by step to configure your cameras the way you would like. Out of all the features my favorites are being able to select which areas of the camera you would like for the camera to ignore motion and for the cameras to actually be a deterrent system. For example, if you setup a camera for your front door to record when there is motion, you can set it to ignore any motion from cars passing by (a very nice addition). Using that same example, you can also setup that at certain times of day when it detects motion to sound a siren or give a warning message. This is great! In each camera the kit comes with has a small speaker that is able to do this. Being a 4k surveillance system the picture is fantastic. The cameras are rated for 30 feet of night vision and I can certainly say they can reach that while still having clear picture. After 30 feet, it starts to get grainy but depending on how you setup your cameras another camera can compensate for that area. Overall, I can definitely recommend this system to anyone looking to setup a surveillance system for the first time or if you already have one. Setup is easy, picture is great, and can even deter a thief with a siren if it ever comes to it!

Lorex - 8-Channel, 4-Camera Indoor/Outdoor Wired 4K UHD 2TB DVR Surveillance System - White I am not a security camera expert although I do have some personal experience of my own having setup a few camera systems in the past. Most of my experience has been with wired and wireless IP cameras systems. They both have some advantages and limitation which made me want to try a package like this Lorex system. My current setup has been wireless outside cameras that have their own batteries. They have worked well but if you have to many notification your battery life suffers. So you have to be very careful what you allow to trigger them. Also they have to be mounted high enough so they are not stolen. That means you can plan on getting a ladder out every few months or weeks to charge the batteries. A wired IP camera like this wired Lorex system is still restricted as to where you can run the wiring. But unlike the Lorex system if you have more than a couple IP cameras you risk slowing down your home network with camera traffic you might not care about. This is one area where a true wired solution like the Lorex system excels. It’s always on and recording and the only time it affects your wireless network is if your viewing them on a phone or tablet.. Which of course you wouldn’t need to do that unless you get a notification or your just watching them because you can. The wireless IP cameras give you a lot of flexibility in where you might mount them, but that doesn’t do away with the network traffic or pulling out your ladder every few weeks. In this review I felt getting the cameras professionally mounted was the only true way to review them. I had the camera install quoted by several companies. Not one of them had any concerns that I already had the camera kit and I only wanted them installed. This seems to be a very common request and in each quote that was never an issue. I had prices quoted starting from around $85 to just over $100 per camera. Best Buy also quoted the installation and although they were competitive in the pricing I went with a local company only because of there lower pricing and excellent online reviews. My home is a two story and I could only install three of the four cameras because of the limited access in the attic to run the wires. Still I have almost complete outside coverage and much more than my wireless setup due to needing to place them so I could access them regularly. The actual install was about one hour for each camera. The security company that installed the cameras knew the Lorex brand very well and had nothing but good things to say about them. They were very impressed with the quality of the 4K images as was I. Also being Lorex they knew the software interface and although I really didn’t need any help on the configuration they could have helped me if I had needed it. I had already setup each camera and tested each one before they were installed. I had them setup to be viewed by my computers, tablet and phone before the install. When viewed on a monitor connected directly to the DVR you have a very comprehensive software program. I could go on for pages on the options I have including how and when the cameras send me notifications if specific zones detect motion. My wireless cameras has some of this capability but nowhere near the level of control I have with the Lorex system. I also must say the speed of the image cannot be compared in how much faster it is then the IP cameras. From my prior experience to get this level of security camera software that supports up to 64 cameras would easily exceed the cost of this whole package even adding in the installation. There is some very good free security camera software you can get but you will spend quite a bit of time learning it and setting it up. If you have cameras from different supplier that maybe a better option but I have to say it would still be hard to be the plug and play solution most people want and even with that you are not likely to get the amount of features packed here. This is really a great camera system for the price. The installer also commented on how much he liked these cameras and that’s all he does all day. So you really are getting a professional package here and if you have a single level home you may not need a professional installer. I am just getting a little old to go up 20 feet on a ladder and my attic is not a friendly place to do any work. I still have some final adjustments to make on setting up camera zones so I get accurate notifications but I am not having any issues streaming to my phone and the image quality over the wireless battery cameras is much better. Often you see news stories where they show camera images and you wonder why they don’t have a better image. I am sure you can pay for a better image but you are giving up very little here. I am very satisfied with the quality of the cameras, software and tools provided to access them. This is a great package that I can expect to get many years of service from. If you are a DIY person or do what I did and get an installer to help you, this package is an excellent choice.

The Lorex surveillance security system is an excellent investment to protect your loved ones and your property. If you have decided to invest money in a security system, it is wiser to get a system which gives the best protection and which will be reliable. This wired system can provide that, and it has the latest technology to view on a mobile device. The instruction is good enough and gives every detail of the installation process. After connecting the cameras to the base/DVR and the power is turned on, the rest is simple; the system has a setup wizard that guides the rest of the process. After everything is complete, you have live 4K recording and a great surveillance system watching over your property. Wired vs. Wireless: Wired systems system can be a bit challenging when running cables from the base station to the cameras, but this effort will give you a professional quality installation. The wired system doesn’t require batteries, thus eliminating the frequent hassle of removing, recharging, and replacing dead batteries. A wired system is more reliable because cameras with dead batteries can’t record. Another possible issue is that batteries may leak, explode, and lose recharging capability; which will require future additional expense replacing them. Sometimes it is tiring, or we forget to do the task of replacing batteries. Compared to wireless, the wired system has less chance of the signal being hacked or manipulated. Lorex connects to the internet for instant mobile app video viewing and camera configuration but if there is a concern about having a security system on the internet, this Lorex system function well without connecting to a network (it is optional). Installation Recommendation: Connect all cameras to DVR to see that they work properly before running the wires throughout the building and attaching the cameras to the wall. Having this system power plug connected to a UPS battery backup would be great for when there is a power outage or when a thief cut off the property’s power. If the 60 ft (ca. 18 m) cable provided with the kit is not long enough for your setup, Best Buy sells longer 4K video cables. I use a hammer drill run each camera wire through the wall, then I ran all wires on the ceiling of the inside, and I covered all wires with crown molding- the house is now more secure, and it looks nice with new crown molding. Conclusion: A wireless system might be easier, but I have mentioned a couple of trade offs for going that route. A lot of DIY systems use cloud storage and charge a monthly service fee. The Lorex system records 4K quality, has an internal 2 TB hard drive, and the video are viewable on a mobile device. The setting can be conveniently controlled using the Lorex Home app. With the app I have turned on/off notification on some cameras, set preference for motion detection area “SmartZone,” and set schedule for continues recording. Overall, this a DIY surveillance system with professional quality features. I like it!

This is a WIRED camera package. That being said, plan camera placement and wiring paths before hand. The kit includes 4 cameras which are HD but can downplay to standard to save NVR space. I've attached both from the same camera to compare the difference in definition. These come with 60' wiring adapters that will run both camera/control feed and the power input. The field of view is wide, about 110 degrees. The NVR is easy to setup, includes a mouse (USB), an HDMI cable for a monitor, and its power supply. It can also output VGA. The initial setup is very point and click allowing each camera to be seen for actual image. You can adjust the area on each camera for motion alerts, in case you have one pointed at a busy street. The NVR also has an additional capacity for 4 more cameras, totaling 8. The additional 4 would need to be purchased separately, but use the standard BNC connection. The only downside I've seen so far is there is no pc application for control. Control is either directly on NVR, through a phone app, or web-browser based. The phone app is intuitive, easy to control or change settings. Cameras can be viewed and alerts/notifications can be set. Geo-fencing can be enabled on the phone app so notifications are disabled within your home. This setting will burn your phone battery up however, as location services must always be on. I've used this app the most (iPhone), and have enjoyed the ability to enable a warning light on each camera, or there is a siren deterrent built-in to each. The siren isn't deafening, but is noticeable. Personally I had been planning to install a camera system, and wanted a wired kit. This is a great system to start with, and I like that I can add more cameras if desired.

    Just Great Picture Clarity

The picture quality is just amazing. The 4K image clarity is extremely clear. I can read a license plate from 40 plus feet away from the camera. I can also zoom in for high resolution images. I have the deterrent light turned on to strobe when motion is detected at my Front Door. Set up is not difficult, the only thing necessary is patience with running and hiding the BNC cables. It took me probably 1 hour to set up, run wire and mount each camera. (Around 8 hours total) The hardest part was getting the wires from inside to outside. I went to Lowes and bought a 3/4 inch masonry drill bit, since I have a brick house and drilled a hole from outside in, then used a clothes hanger and attached the BNC cable to the hanger with duct tape and snaked it through the hole. The only thing I do not like is the Active Deterrent Alarm. It's not loud enough to warrant using. The Strobe light Deterrent is great, especially in the dark. I am truly satisfied with my purchase which was around $800.00. I was going to buy a much cheaper camera system from Sam's Club that was only HD image quality, not 4K quality. I did not buy it mainly because only 1 person could watch the playback remotely and with this 4K system, 3 user's can watch the playback remotely at the same time.

This is a non-paid, unbiased review of this home security camera system and installation from Geek Squad. I purchased this system after researching home security systems for a few months as I wanted a non headache system which could be used for local and when traveling away from home. Pros: 1. Thorough and professional installation by Geek Squad guys in Copperfield TX (Houston) 2. They set the wired system as requested and as intended to use, 3. Within a few hours, I had a fully functional home surveillance system which was hooked onto my TV and also available for streaming live on Lorex App. 4. Lorex App is free to use with no monthly subscription fee. 5. Great resolution, video recording/ streaming is in color when there is daylight. 6. Great resolution and video recording & streaming is in high quality black & white when there is no additional lighting ( night time). 7. Geek Squad guys did a superb job in setting up the system and making whole system functional. 8. I wanted a wired system as I specifically didn't want to use wifi and pay for high speed internet. Plus if your internet is down, your home security is down. With a wired system this scenario is not possible. 9. Cameras can be zoomed in and out on the Lorex App and also on TV ( if system is connected to a TV). 10. Response time is almost ZERO and system speeds are amazingly fast with a wired system like this Lorex system. 11. It has 2 way speaker system, 12. It has alarm system, which you can set to trigger off audio alarm if it senses motion. 13. Settings can be customized to increase/ decrease camera motion sensors in specific areas. 14. A continuous red infra red light is a strong reminder to any disturbing elements that they are on video surveillance 15. Cameras can detect and record clear images upto 70 feet ( in my driveway). Cons : 1. Costly to purchase, 2. Costly to install. Overall Opinion : If home security and safety is your priority, this systemmerts and exceeds all your requirements. Lorex App is free to install and free to stream live feed from anywhere in the world, so you can watch your home and any movements anytime and anywhere.

I have set up several different camera systems for friends and coworkers so I know a thing or two about different brands and systems. I decided it was time to get one since I had purchased a house and I made the right decision. This one is the best of the best. Right out of the box it was an ease. Set up was super simple, comes with a sticker template to make it easier to drill the holes. The image quality is very impressive and has amazing night vision.

Setup was easy to follow instructions. Cameras came with long 100 ft cables which made it easy to place through attic. Video is crystal clear and zoom is awesome. Price was reasonable if not cheaper than other systems. I get alerts direct to my phone when there is something on camera after I set it up for zoning for motion. Works great and have not had a problem.

Bought to replace an old 0.3 (960h) megapixel system. I am very happy with the clarity, can finally read license plates and see detailed facial features. These cameras have a slightly wider viewing angle which i like. The recording of 7 frames per second have not been an issue either and to get the higher framerate doubles the price. I was able to use existing wiring from previous cameras. My only complaint is when motion is detected it sends a low grade pic via email and only one pic. My old system sent 3 pics 2 seconds apart. But unsure what other brands do, so I stayed with the Lorex. Also the whole vehicle/person motion setting somewhat works but certain flying insects with still set off the email alarm (if you have it turned on, to save HD space one could have motion set on and email off). Night time viewing is incredible. With the outside light, that camera stays in color mode. The cameras not by a light source can easily see 100 feet. Very impressed with night and daytime video quality. So happy I spent a little more and purchased the 8mp. I installed 1080p at the parents and while very nice, this 8mp has a lot more detail. The 2tb hd or larger is a must have IMO. With 8 cameras recording i get one week before hd overwrites existing data. I could save some space by having some cameras record only on motion. I highly recommend this Lorex system.

If you are looking for a good quality camera system here is it. Everything you need, good length on wires from camera to dvr, easy hook up, watch from your device while you’re gone, motion sensor, alarm sound and led flash, multiple ways to record. Night vision better than expected, just an all around good quality system.

Had some recent prowlers so picked up this system. The cameras have great range. They don't move or anything, but I don't need them to. The install was pretty easy, just needed to run the cables exterior and mount the cameras. The control unit is quieter than I expected. There aren't a bunch of good instructions or anything, so doing things like setting up the areas of the camera view you want to have alarm audibly took some trial and error, but it worked. I still haven't figured out how to get it on my cell, but don't really need that since you can hear the alarm clearly throughout the house (and outside!). After messing with little details for a few days, I have it setup pretty well. I figured out how to get to the latest alarms and watch that video to see what set it off. That helped me understand that wind in the branches can do it, bugs that fly close to the camera, even steam coming up from the dryer vent when there is no breeze. I really like that there is night vision. Not a light that shines out there, but true night vision. It's like it's day out when it's pitch black. Awesome! One thing I hope they develop is longer cables so I can get my last camera on a hard to reach corner. I need longer than the 100' exterior cable they offer. Interior goes farther. I recommend this item.
