Great Receiver-Tough Choice Between This and Denon

I was upgrading our surround system as far as the tv (which we purchased the LG OLED EF9500) and the receiver. We had a 6 year old setup with a Denon 2808CI receiver. This Marantz was my choice between it and the Denon AVR X6200W which both were the exact same price. I think ultimately, I went with Marantz as I had a Marantz receiver in the early 1980's and it's a bit nostalgic for me and at the same time was the choice picked between those two by 3 different Magnolia Design Center stores I went to. The sound is great (I've got it setup with 7.1 system and a zone two pushing 4 patio speakers outside). The Marantz online app is just okay but there are other companies that make apps that work on the Marantz and will control a lot of components in my system. I like the fact the airplay wireless built in to the Marantz makes it very easy to stream music when I'm listening to Apple Music via my Iphone and I can play it in each zone independently or just the zone I choose. From what people told me when I set out to buy a receiver is that Marantz will cost a bit more than one from a competing company but they are built solid and sound great for both home theater AND music…a lot of punch in my music using this Marantz 7010

So I spent about 6 months reviewing receivers. The tops on my list the integra ad 60.6 this one seems to be the best reviewed. Unfortunately Best Buy does not carry this item. Next on my list was the Marantz. I was able to get 10% off plus it was an open box clearance. So price was great. Most importantly was the fact that BB has 0% apr for 24 months in home theater for purchases of $899 or more. Sold. The item is top notch and drives my 300 watt definitive tech 8060 towers with no problem and has support for 2 zones. I paired this with a switch 1 hdmi in and 8 out and I have a signal through the whole house now. Dts x and atmos along with an upgrade for arou 3D sound scape and bam ready to roll. Still haven't bought the record player yet but I'm eyeing it. Vinyl is important to me also. Very loud and exceptionally clear highly recommend

Always wanted a Marantz receiver, back to the early '70s, just a little to expensive. The Marantz 7010 replaced my Pioneer Elite SC-55 when the "UE-22" code on the Pioneer meant the end of the unit (firmware update unsuccessful, and technical support disappeared). The Marantz 7010 is terrific! Wonderful separation and sound quality on the Definitive Technologies 8080 speakers. Noticeably better than the Pioneer SC-55. Easy-to-use front control panel and remote control. Thought heat might be a concern, but it's not excessive and reasonable space for ventilation avoids any problem. Wonderful receiver!

I recently replaced my Yamaha Aventage 7.1 receiver with this Marantz to get the Dolby Atmos & DTS-X, plus the audyssey EQ. I added 4 Height speakers as well and the difference is striking-more presence, better imaging, sounds are more distinct. I hear surround sounds that were missing before! The Audyssey EQ is more accurate and has a more listenable EQ than the YPAO EQ from Yamaha in my opinion.

I needed a new receiver due to my onkyo tx-nr3008 quitting. This is my first marantz product. Set up is straight forward and easy to understand. I had to return the 1st one due to it constantly tripping protection circuit. Customer service is very knowledgeable and helpful. Though I cannot compare side by side, I can assure that this receiver sounds WONDERFUL. Nowhere near as harsh as the onkyo. My only complaint is that where the onkyo would run you out of the room with the volume levels it could achieve , this gets nowhere near that (with my speakers, that is). I admit I am afraid to advance volume past 80 (do not want to do without again) . I have a pair of def-tech bp7000 in front and 7002 as surrounds. I do not have the speaker sets in place at this time to review the many different surround modes. I can say it is spot on in 5.1 and 7.1 applications. Using as a ht (watching movies) , it achieves reference level sound easily. Took off a star because I had to return the first unit (at $2,200 , this should not occur) and the inability to match the pure output levels of an older model onkyo (even though the marantz sound is better).

Great receiver with a few cons

Overall, the Marantz SR7010 receiver is excellent. It supports most of the latest features (4K, HDR, Atmos, etc), and it works remarkable well with my LG OLED TV. The CEC support is nice in that the TV remote can control most receiver functions flawlessly. The sound is first rate as would be expected in this class of receiver. One issue that I've encountered is that ApplePlay support is buggy at best, as it constantly disconnects. I also had a few issues with dolby digital falling back to stereo mode using ARC, but I think this is more of an issue with the TV than the receiver. Other than those issues, I've been quite pleased with this receiver.

This unit looks sleek, but even more important it delivers a clean sound. I was troubleshooting a routine blowout in my speaker and the unit did what it was supposed to do- it went into protect mode, saving both the speaker and the receiver.
