    Definitely Worth the Purchase

Shadow of Mordor is insanely good. Right off the bat the story feels extremely fresh and fast paced, but on top of that the combat system is very innovative with some awesome killing techniques that keeps your eyes glued to the screen. I won't get into the story in order not to spoil it, but just know it's dark and intense. I can already tell that this game will keep me busy for a while with its huge open world, main quest, vast upgrading system, and tons of side quests. Furthermore each time you die, the enemy who killed you gets promoted and stronger. Not only does this keep the game challenging and fresh, but it's also a change of pace from similar games. Shadow of Mordor has so much to offer, and I've only began to scratch the surface of it, so the bottom line is if you like Lord of the Rings, and dark role playing games, then this is the Next Gen game for you. It's Awesome! Update: Upgrades: There's a wide variety of up-gradable abilities in Shadow of Mordor. A total of 39 abilities are unlock-able, and some of them are super powerful, and makes the game that much more fun. You can also upgrade your attributes of your resources and weapons. They include your Max Health, Elf-Shot strength, Focus, Sword Rune Slot, Bow Rune Slot, and Dagger Rune Slot. For each Rune Slot you can unlock special perk that will help you kill more captains and war chiefs. In the beginning I was dying a lot, but after I started to unlock more of these perks, the game started to get easier and more enjoyable. If you're completest then this game will take you well over 20 hours to complete if you include all the side objectives. After many hours of gameplay I've finally beaten the main story. I'm very satisfied with how it ended, and I can't recommend this game enough!

I got an awesome deal on this, especially with all of the GOTY edition add-on content. Extremely fun game. Similar to AC series, but way more fun in my opinion. I've played AC a few times but never got into it, but this game seems to have everything that AC has plus more to make it a real pleasure to play. Great combat, pretty good story, and a nice open-world with a manageable amount of activities and side quests to keep you busy but not overwhelmed. It's extremely fun fighting, stealth-killing, and bow sniping orcs and the character development has a nice balance of options and specializations. Great for hardcore and casual players alike. I own Witcher 3, DA: Inquisition, AC Black Flag, and a few other Xb1 games and I would definitely say this one seems the most fun to play. Just feels "well-balanced". Not the most amazing at any one thing, but just very enjoyable all around and definitely worth $50 for the GOTY if you enjoy any similar genres or titles.

    A game that didn't disappoint in 2014

This game like many other triple A titles in 2014 had lots of hype some more than others. But most top games of that year where disappointments or didn't meet the hype. This game however was one of the few that probably surpassed everyones expectations. This has so much content that even when you beat the main story the nemesis system and combat in the game is enough to keep you coming back back for more. This game's carnage is so unbelievably satisfying I believe it's up to par or more with the God of War series. All in all this game is amazing and especially if you obtain the Goty edition it will give you endless hours of fun. I would also like to add that I am not really a lords of the rings guy and I still enjoy it to the fullest till this day.

Shadow of Mordor follows Talion as he seeks revenge on those who killed his family. The gameplay is a mix between the recent Batman series (free flow combat) and Assassin's Creed. The game does a great job of immersing you into the world of LOTR, and does a great job of telling a solid story. You won't quite find the combat up to Batman standards, but it is a lot of fun. The open world experience is really where the action stands out. There's plenty of quests to enjoy and with the game of the year edition, there's probably 40+ hours of content if you want to experience everything.

Actually a little late to the game on this one but finally got it. If you haven't already and like Action RGP type style get it! Decent story, but the combat and nemesis system is fantastic. Die by a guy and coming back for revenge... again and maybe even again the reaction from the enemy is entertaining. Even if you kill them, they could come back and they remember you. Each play through is unique as the system changes the style over the game.

You dont have to be a Lord of the Rings fan to enjoy this game. Plays similar to the Batman Arkham series, and has some pretty cool power ups as you progress thru the game. There is also a cool, unique system with the enemies and how their soldiers are ranked, and how they battle each other to climb the ranks. Plenty of side missions and extra content in this Game of the Year edition to keep you busy. A great value, especially if you can get it on sale at a decent price.

The DLC campaigns that are now on the disc for this edition and add very interesting twists to the gameplay of Shadow of Mordor. Frankly, it would have been nice to have some of these elements in the main campaign, but this would have changed the game significantly, so its understandable that the developers didn't do this. The stories in these campaigns aren't deep, so lore fans may be disappointed. In addition there are challenging "Test of" modes that make you complete certain tasks within a time limit. I found these tests very compelling despite how long they took and how difficult they could be. I enjoyed mastering the techniques needed to do well. Others might find it frustrating. All together, I'm glad I picked up this version of Mordor with all the additional content, especially at the great price I got it from Best Buy.

    Great slasher RPG

Shadow of Mordor: GOTY Edition is like Assassin's Creed, except taken onto the battlefield. Motion is fluid and basically intuitive (the exception being the timing on execution and other finishers, which is pretty easy to get down in the first 1-2 hours of gameplay) the story is compelling, with fun little nuggets of lore for the hardcore LOTR fan, and a good linear narrative for those who are either casual LOTR fans or just gamers. Titles like this, working within an interstitial timeframe in an already established Universe can often go awry (Remember the Matrix games from the mid-aughts?), but this game stuck to it's little corner of Mordor, which, in conjunction with the Nemesis engine that hints at more procedurally generated enemies in games in the future, comes out to a great game overall. Getting both DLC's for free in the GOTY Edition was just the icing on top.

It is not a new edgy game, but it uses a great system from other combat games such as "Assassin's creed, Batman, Ryse (son of Rom) as well as other games. It's an open world, go anywhere anytime with no loading screens, except starting missions. If you want to be surrounded by 30 plus Uruki at once this is the game you need to get. It isn't bogged down by the LOTR story line, it is a good story with a lot of killing. A good game to just have fun.

    Slash 'Em Up Fun

I was looking for an action adventure game to play during the holiday season. For a long time, I had my eye on Shadow of Mordor. I like the action of the game. It took me a few hours to get a feel for the game. The graphics are great. I am still playing so I am still trying to get a feel for the story line. As with most games these days, you can do side missions and digress from the main story. I like the slash and move tactic to eliminate foes. Therefore, the battle system works, especially when you are fighting 20 plus foes. It was a lot at first, but you learn tactics and gain abilities to help you eliminate them all. Leveling up your character is interesting and fun. You can use points to obtain various abilities that you can use in battle. Weapons are automatically drawn so you do not have to waste time doing that. You have the ability to climb walls, assassinate enemies from above, interrogate foes, threaten bosses, ride beasts, etc. I can see the comparison to the Assassin Creed series. I do like the fact that you eliminate one enemy, another one rises up. There seems to be a boss hierarchy system, so there is no shortage of these bosses to fight in the game. The game is fun, but it can get a bit repetitive at times. There are in-games challenges that you can complete for points that you can use to level up. I am half way through the game and though it is a bit repetitive, it can be fun. As I continue to progress in the game, perhaps the story will become more prevalent. If you like action/role playing games, then I do suggest that you give this one a chance. It was on sale for nearly $20 so the price is not bad at all. If you are a Gamer Club member, you will get a discount on the game. Also, this is the game of the year addition, so there are some extra missions that come along with it. I hope this helps.

Shadows of Morder is a fantastic game, even one of the better current gen titles I would daresay. Exploring even a chunk of Middle Earth in an open world setting is a treat and the gameplay is done right. The combat is similar to the Batman Arkham games and also incorporates stealth at times. This package contains all the DLC as well, and if you can catch this one sale as I did, then you've really found a bargain.

Great game marred by terrible ending

This game started off kind of slow for me, almost to the to the point that I thought I was going to regret the purchase. In fact, I took a long break from this game to play Arkham Knight. Honestly, I think my experience with that game enhanced my enjoyment of this one. Very quickly after returning to the game I was hooked! There is something very satisfying about going around and killing Uruks, especially the ones who have killed you. Speaking of which, one of the things I enjoyed most about this game was that there was a logic behind why your character, Talion, can die and come back stronger than before. But, on the flip side, there are consequences to dying: your enemies will be stronger as well. After spending many nights getting immersed in the story and leveling up Talion, I found myself very unsatisfied with the ending. ** MILD SPOILERS AHEAD ** You spend a lot of time developing abilities, none of which are used to beat the end boss. Instead, when the time comes, you just have to press whatever button on your controller corresponds to the one flashing on the screen. A couple of rounds of this and the boss is defeated, the story over. I was anticipating a hard fight, one in which I needed to use a combination of the special abilities I had spent hours and hours honing, only to be very let down. In spite of the lackluster ending, I'd still highly recommend the game for fans of LOTR or fans of this genre of game.

I originally played this game on PC. As many of the reviews then noted, this game had some new ideas that came out very well. The nemesis system kept you engaged in a hierarchy of foes. The combat was similar to that of the new Batman series. Can't wait for Shadow of War to come out next week.

This game was the first game I played on my Xbox One and I could definitely tell a difference in graphics from the 360. The graphics were beautiful. The story mode was excellent. I just wish it was a little longer because the side quests do become quite repetitive. Overall awesome game. I hope there will be a second!

All I really have to say about this game is that it's amazing! The gameplay/controls have a slight learning curve(I'm new to Xbox), but once you get into the thick of it, its awesome! The story has some decent substance to it and I can already tell that it'll take awhile to finish, which is a plus for me.

When this game came out I heard good things but never gave it a shot. Saw the game of the year edition was on sale and had to pick it up. Can't beat the price! After spending days getting wrapped up into it I'd have to say it was well worth it! It's assassin's creed meets hobbit! Great game!

This game is a great mix of LOTR lore and gameplay reminiscent of Assassin's Creed. Moving around the various maps is a treat. Learning skills incrementally and gaining power for your character feels smooth. The last act has some interesting mechanics I haven't seen in other games; in particular, turning enemies to be your hidden allies while they continue on their Orc-ly duties. You can activate them to turn on their allies with the push of a button... then crush their brain once they are done wreaking havok. There are a couple wonky bits with flowers/herbs scattered around the maps but nothing too crazy out of place. It's a good game and will give you a lot of fun. I believe I put about 35 hours into the main game (no expansions) and had about 10 more hours ahead of me to get most of the achievements. Well worth the price. Look up some videos, see if the setting and graphics are your style, then give it a try. The game is smooth and great.

Shadow of mordor is a fantastic game with a lot of content. The game feels like a perfect mix between the arkham franchise and assassin's creed. Visuals are appealing and the voice acting is too notch. Gameplay is solid and responsive as well. A great game in total

The title says it all. If Assassins Creed and the Batman arkham games had a baby, this bag of Awesome would be the result. I enjoyed it personally, love Lord of the rings, and the way they blend this story is interesting. For the right price a must play!
