I am new to Capcom’s Monster Hunter universe, but glad that my friend prodded and convinced me to purchase this game. I had watched some preview videos on IGN, Gamespot, etc. and the hype for this is well warranted. Upon first loading up the game, I was impressed by the level of detail in character customization, which is just a small preview of the how comprehensive the character, weapons, armor, etc. customization is. Graphics and overall presentation are splendid as designed with the Havok game engine. The environments are life like and add to the gameplay mechanics as hiding, running, and scavaging the terrain greatly impact success and failure as you venture out. The story is nothing noteworthy, but the adventures are nuances and scaled for a variety of gameplay difficulty. Oh yeah, the monsters are diverse and unique with some exceptional battles as well as some that are a bit lackluster. This game does have its areas for improvement. Namely it feels buggy and unnecessarily complex setting up quests and general multiplayer game modes with people already in your party. I will pin this on Capcom for not making the ability to play with friends more accessible and user friendly. For a game that touts co-op play, I would call one of its largest selling points to be in drastic need of repair. Overall, this is an addictive game you can play solo but is epic when accompanied by friends or partners— when it connects properly and you have finished watching non-skip cutscenes. This one gets my vote for best game of the early 2018 year. Now fix co-op!!!

Hours and hours of single or multiplayer fun. It's my first MH game, so I wasn't sure what to expect. Make no mistake, there's a learning curve that could be off-putting to some, but if you take the time to learn the mechanics, there's a ton of content in this game that will keep you busy for a long time!

What a Monster of a game!

First and foremost, I have never, ever, played a Monster Hunter game; so I came Into this one apprehensive. Those feelings seemed to be proven by the first two hours of the game: tutorial screen afteer, tutorial screen, tons of things to learn, with no real practice. Luckily, the designers kind of got that, so they made the first few bosses a cake walk, while also pushed the MP aspect of the game heavily. After ten hours of streaming on Mixer while playing, I got advice from legacy fans and players on how to proceed; this turned the game into an amazing experience. Each weapon and set of armor have their own combos, properties, and feel. It's staggering at first, but soon you're as addicted as Cali Valley girl given her Dad's Plat, No-Limits card and set loose on the town. I've been mix and matching buffs as if I were getting fitted for my wedding. Great Experience! Thanksgiving, Capcom! Follow me on Mixer to share in the fun. Mixer.com/downwithfire

I've had a really great experience with monster hunter so far. This is by far one of my favorite games in recent memory beating out *typically much bigger names/titles. I should mention though that at the time of purchase the online play for Xbox was very much broken, so I purchased for PS4 and do not regret it in the least. Sure i could have waited for a patch to fix the online issues, but I dont feel bad supporting Capcom in a very well done game. I feel very differently about supporting garbage triple A titles that come out year after year with little to no change and still demanding full price + a DLC sub.

This is my first MH game and a series I have been interested in for a while but didn’t know much about. This is not an action, hack and slash as some have advertised. Little bit of a learning curve and took me a while to find my balance with playstyle. But I’m enjoying the world, there is grinding to work your upgrades and you have to learn monster habits and strategies. I found there is a lot the game doesn’t tell you point blank which adds to the learning curve, but definitely a rewarding experience. Graphics on the OneX are amazing!

300+ hours in so far. The best Monster Hunter game I have played. Challenging, all the familiar weapons any Hunter already knows. Plus Palicos! As of now the end game is very fun, awaiting the first new monster update at the end of March. I would recommend this to both new comers and ole school Hunters. I found the game very approchable from the very first mission. Hunting in groups is just the best kind of fun! Highly recommend trying this game out.

I have always been interested in the Monster Hunter games, but never quite got hooked, despite playing a bit on WiiU and PSP. I decided to pick it up based on the positive reviews/podcast coverage and I must say that I am am happy that I did. I love this game and I can't stop playing. Great mix of big monster battles, equipment upgrades, and weapon/attack variety. And it looks great in 4K HDR!

To be honest, this is the only GoW game I've ever played. I borrowed a friends PS4 just to play it. I love norse mythology so this game was a must play. Everything from the graphics, gameplay, story, voice acting, characters, quests, collectibles, was PERFECT. I received a platinum trophy for my major addiction to this game. Highly recommend, you won't be disappointed.

I'm new to the Monster Hunter games, having never played any of the previous games. I took a chance and gave the game a try, and now I'm addicted to this game. It does take time to learn how things works, from crafting armor and weapons, how to fight monsters and prepare for battle, to researching and learning about each monsters and Elder Dragons. But once you learn and take your time, the game is amazing and the grinding for new gear is fun. While the main story is short and nothing special, teaming up with other Hunters online is a blast, even for ones like myself who aren't into online gaming. Be prepared that a lot of the battles will take over a half hour to complete, and even then you may fail the objective. I found it easier than Dark Souls, but almost on par with the mechanics. This is not for someone into a quick playthrough or someone easily frustrated. But if you are willing to take the time and put in the effort, Monster Hunter World is one of the best games I have played this generation of game systems.

Hands down, this is the best game in the Monster Hunter series!! We are very lucky to have such an amazing game to play on console now. They fixed so many gripes that the community had with the previous games, and just gave us a whole lot more. New or old players, get this game!!

I have heard things about the monster hunter series, and I will be one to admit I was on the fence about this game till I watched some gameplay. Next thing I know I buy the game, pop it in, I am hooked. This game has a lot of grinding, but very satisfying and rewarding. Things you need to know about the game, it is challenging, very deep, and the game will not hold your hand on explaining what you need to do with each weapon.

If you aren't used to jrpg's, you will be overwhelmed at the start by the multitude of choices and mechanics at the beginning. If you have never played a monster hunter game, do yourself a favor and read a few of the starter guides out on the web to help. It is an absolute blast to track and hunt down monsters, but there are plenty of lows to go along with the high. Stopping at the precise angle and pressing B to "see" tracks or feathers etc is fine if its one every 100 yards or so, but it gets old real fast when its every 5-6 feet. There is no true target lock, so your best combo can glance off if you are a smidgen out of alignment. You will need to farm for items to gain incremental improvements, with no promise of a drop. So, exhaustive 45 minute fight, chase, kill, oh snap son you didnt get a beak to drop, so go do it again! Ugh. There isnt an ability to pause, so if real life requires your attention, you will lose whatever time you have invested in a hunt. This is a game best taken in small doses, 1-3 hunts, then go do something with your life. It is very fun, and quite rewarding when you master taking down the harder creatures, (less so the 75th time you have to kill it farming), giving you a Dark Souls sense of accomplishment. I'll never forget taking on a great jagra and having a Anjanath (T-rex) bust out of the forest and scare the bejeesus out of me. The world feels alive & even though I tire after a few hunts, I am always itching to go back for more. This is not a pick up and play title. But if you are willing to take it in small doses, and dedicate some time to learning its intricacies, you will be well rewarded. Happy Hunting!

I really enjoyed this game. The graphics and the large scale monster fights are fascinating. Did get a bit lackluster after about a month but since then they've added more content that I haven't checked on yet.

The combination of great graphics and awesome game mechanics makes this a great game to play. I just started playing this game and have about 12 hours in and have yet to fight a boss type of monster. I have enjoyed every minute I have played so far and can’t wait to keep discovering new adventures and creatures to defeat! I would have given this a 5 Star but I feel like the developer could have done a better job with the character you play. At the beginning you are able to customize your own character to your preference with good amount of options that allows you to be creative but you quickly realize that your character does not have a voice in the game which was a bit of a let down but does not take away much from what the experience is with Mostet Hunter.

Monster Hunter can be a little overwhelming to a new player. This game has a decent walk-through tutorial that will familiarize the player with how hunt, avoid, and use the many weapons in the game. The online co-op takes some effort, as there are a lot of menus to go through to play with a group. The series takes coordination for larger, advanced bosses, so if you'd rather tackle them online with others, voice communication will be needed. A great entry in the series. This is a beautiful, fun game.

A great entry point for those new to the series, this latest version of Monster Hunter has many impressive beasts and interesting weapons to take them down. There is a bit of a learning curve, with crafting materials and getting multiplayer set up, but once you overcome this you'll be enjoying your time grinding out hunts to get that last piece of material to get the next piece of gear you want. Don't be afraid to mix things up and try the different weapons, since many play very differently. My biggest gripe is that there are a few fights that can be very difficult, and may prevent advancement in the game for some time, frustrating less patient gamers.

Playing on Xbox One X: I was going in knowing that this was not my usual cup of tea, but very glad I took the leap of faith. Don't let the lengthy menu tutorials scare you, the systems are only as complicated as you want them to be, and pretty easy to navigate when you are ready to dig in and power up. You can change up the play style anytime because you start with access to all weapon types, and if you don't like your choice of armor or weapon upgrades, then you can actually get a refund for the crafting materials used and apply them to a new setup. If you're intrigued by the look of this game world, then you owe it to yourself to give it a chance for the action to hook you.
