I love that it's integrated into the Google Home app. So, what's the problem? It constantly drops devices for a few seconds/minutes. I have been on chats with tech support almost every day, and they blamed everything on Verizon FiOS "blocking" a port. Well, Verizon denied that they were doing this, but Google insisted they were, so finally I forwarded that port through the router to a computer on my network and guess what? I could reach that computer, through that supposedly blocked port, no problem. So Google was just wrong. The advanced tech support person I reached at Verizon in the midst of this said that "this is a known issue with Nest." Their final answer was always "do a factory reset." After about 10 of those, I was done. Also, the fact that router settings can only be done through the Home app is unacceptable. Let me use any computer on my network, just like every other router on the planet, please.

Great concept but wifi point coming up short.

I live in a 2400 sqft rancher.

Seems any device that connects on the 5ghz connection cant seem to stay connected. 2.4 G works fine and so does wired. A bit disappointed.

Nest Wifi uses the Band Steering feature to guide your connected devices based on their capabilities, and attempt to select the band that will deliver the best performance. Both radio bands are active simultaneously and Nest Wifi keeps it simple by automatically choosing the band that gives the best Wi-Fi connection.

Problem with Google Nest Wifi and Comcast Xfinity

Owned for 11 months when reviewed.This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I want to pass along a product warning about the Google Home Nest WiFi with mesh nodes. It doesn't work if you use comcast xfinity. In short, I have been trying to get this crappy device to work for months and it will work for a day or so after each time I do a factory reset, then the nodes go offline and the wifi becomes unreliable. Google says to disable the comcast router that it plugs into but I have a gig router and I read that this device doesn't go that high, plus comcast has extra firewalls and other features I like. I also talked to a Comcast rep and he told me that lots of people have been complaining about this problem, and it is a finger-pointing exercise between Comcast and Google. I have been using networks and NAT'ed home wifi routers for 20 years without having this issue. I either have a defective device or Google has a bad design. It is marketed as a device that is easy to use and you just plug it in, but clearly this is not the case. One shouldn't have to shut down the router on the comcast modem to get a new wifi network to run.

Nest Wifi isn't compatible with 3rd party routers or access points to create a Wi-Fi mesh network. It is only compatible with Nest Wifi Routers, Nest Wifi Points and Google Wifi Points, to create a whole Wi-Fi mesh system for your home. We recommend setting up your modem/router combo in bridge mode and disable its Wi-Fi functionality. This will help avoid any connectivity issue caused, when both your modem/router combo and Nest Wifi Router broadcast the same SSID and password. You can then connect Nest Wifi Router to your combo using an Ethernet cable. You can learn more about bridge mode here: https://support.google.com/wifi/answer/6240987

I have a google pixel 4 phone and lots of experience with google products and this thing just wouldn't work. Because of the automated process to configure this device there are not a lot of steps you can take when it just won't work. Had to return and go with a different product after trying for 2 days.

My Google Wifi started acting up a bit -- so I thought I would upgrade. This one gives half the speed of your network and is more expensive. I am not a fan of Nest or Google WIFI any longer. I did like the integrated Google Assistant however. But I am just as happy with another mesh product from Netgear that doesn't sell my network traffic data.

This isn't a true mesh wifi system, since the points don't have a way to connect via ethernet. The speeds are poor compared to other brands, but not terrible. I guess it's cute if you like having google assistant in every room, but it's fairly inefficient compared to what else is on the market. The range is mediocre as well.

We designed Nest Wifi as a separate design compared to the older Google Wifi, as it has the smart speaker function on the Nest Wifi Points and that it's not really just an iteration. Your Nest Wifi Router is capable of 400 Mbps @ 2.4GHz and 1733 Mbps at @ 5GHz while Nest Wifi Points can reach 400 Mbps @2.4GHz and 866 Mbps @5GHz speeds. These Wi-Fi speeds will still depend on other factors like interference, multiple devices using both bandwidths on your router and the older Wi-Fi chips on your devices that might not be able to support these speeds.

The Nest Google router drops connection constantly! Very unreliable. Google support is not much help either. I factory reset several times and sent diagnostic reports, still issues!! Who has time for this?? Its too late to return so im stuck with this : ( Shame on Google. If you have the old Google Wi-Fi don't upgrade to this! Beware!!

We really appreciate you for performing some troubleshooting and sending diagnostic reports. If you're using Nest Wifi together with Google Wifi, certain mesh setups may cause some issues. We recommend setting up Nest Wifi as the primary router and then connect Google Wifi points as the Wi-Fi access points either wirelessly or wired to the primary router.

Owned for 2 months when reviewed.This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I will start out by saying I'm a huge Google fan I have their entire ecosystem in my house. that being said I was going to upgrade to this generation and I've had nothing but problems and I'm gone back to the old one and it has zero problems. the new one would keep disconnecting it would lose the things that were attached to it all the time it would continually have to re-add reconnect and reset. Do not buy these!!!

If you're combining Nest WiFi and Google WiFi together, we recommend setting up the Nest WiFi router as your primary router directly wired to your modem, and then connect Nest WiFi and Google WiFi points to the primary router.
If Nest WiFi keeps disconnecting, please check if there is not a Double NAT. Double NAT may occur if you have two routers with their own private networks which may interfere each other and cause disconnectivity between your connected devices.

Google does not stand behind their product

After a few months out of the blue I had a double NAT issue (in non tech speak it became unusable). The solution is to have your ISP remove a router if youre using one and use this nest base as your router.... so i called my ISP and they had to do it because it required configuration on their end for me to skip using their router/modem. It continued to have double nat as a problem and i contacted google who insisted it was still present even while the guy was at my house with it entirely bypassed and only using the nest product. I had him switch it back because if it wasnt going to work, whats the point. So i contacted google again for a replacement because it seems to me to be a hardware issue. They insisted it was user error despite the fact i had the actual ISP tech guy at my house communicating with the main office when they switched me around. This product is no more than a paper weight.

Better Speed but horrible connection issues

Got neither. Range seemed no different and speeds were better but I experienced constant wifi drops and it was unusable. Returned and put the Google WiFi back and have no connection issues.

Now it keeps dropping internet speed to less than 1MBPS. Another router getting a feed from Google nest router works perfectly 24x7 so it's clearly the Google nest hardware problem. It has to be restarted almost everyday to fix the slow internet speed. I regret purchasing this.

There can be multiple reasons that cause connectivity issues. You can check the following:
- As a general rule, points work best when they’re no more than two rooms away from each other. For example, if the far end of your house has weak Wi-Fi, don’t put a Wifi point in that exact spot. Instead, put it part way in that direction. Try to place it in an elevated position like on a shelf.
- Building materials and other objects located between your Google Wifi Points and mobile devices may slow your connection. If possible, try to use your device within a clear line of sight to your primary and secondary Points.
- There could be signal interference due to traffic on your Wi-Fi network, on your neighbors' Wi-Fi networks, or from other sources like microwaves or baby monitors.
