Overhyped Trash & 1 Day Too Late To Return

I analyzed the single in several areas around my house and its definitely subpar. I tried to return it but I didn't have an appointment when I arrived at the store and the last day to return it was yesterday. So it seems I'm stuck with this trash. Don't make the same mistake I did by being a google fanboy and purchasing blindly. Definitely would've gone with Amplifi. We shall see if best buy lets me return it 1 day past the return date.

Nest Wifi router's capable speed is up to 400 Mbps @ 2.4 GHz and 1733 Mbps @ 5 GHz. Wi-Fi speeds depend on different factors like interference, multiple devices using both bandwidths on your router and the older Wi-Fi chips on your devices that might not be able to support these speeds.

I had a 7 am appointment. the tech showed up at 830/845. All he had to do was replace my existing system. 4 hours later he gave up and left me with no Wi-Fi at all. Keep in mind it worked when he showed up. What a waste of time. Never again. I have been atotal tech member for 4 years. I can't wait to drop it.

Unfortunately, the mesh became weak during the last couple of months and there is no fixing them. Tried moving them closer to the router, farther, etc... and nothing seems to help. Unfortunately, I will have to buy a new mesh wifi set and it will not be this brand. Stay away unless you like unreliable connections during your gaming, day trades, etc.

We wanted to provide you and all our customers with a user-friendly Wi-Fi mesh system, that's why we've taken care of managing most of the security features for you. Your Nest Wifi has a built-in firewall that creates a barrier between your Wi-Fi network and the Internet, protecting your data from unsolicited connections or connection attempts. It’s a stateful firewall, meaning it keeps track of connections (Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) streams, User Datagram Protocol (UDP) communication) traveling across it. Only data associated with a known active connection is allowed through the firewall. It also secures your Wi-Fi network with either WPA2 protocol or the newer WPA3 protocol. Using WPA3 protocol makes your Wi-Fi network highly resistant to security risks like offline dictionary attacks. By default, Nest Wifi uses the WPA2 protocol to maximize compatibility with legacy connected devices (such as phones, tablets, or laptops). However, you can turn on WPA3 transition mode in the Google Home app. This setting allows both WPA2 and WPA3 devices to join your Wi-Fi network. For Google Wifi devices initially set up in the Google Wifi app, you will need to add your network to the Google Home app to use this feature.

The minute I hook it up it was it was a great experience I love the google voice assist unfortunately the next day I was in so much pain. I can feel the Neves in my brain the headaches were extremely painful. As soon as I unplug the WiFi I feel better right away. I get the Same thing for Bluetooth headset. I hope google in the future make one that will work for me.

It may be helpful to check the placement of your Wi-Fi router and points, which are essential to have reliable Wi-Fi throughout your home. As a general rule, points work best when they’re no more than two rooms away from each other. For example, if the far end of your house has weak Wi-Fi, don’t put a Wifi point in that exact spot. Instead, put it part way in that direction. Try to place it in an elevated position like on a shelf.
You can also try the following steps to see if the Wi-Fi connectivity will improve:
- Move the connected device closer to your Wifi router or point.
- Repositioning the points to avoid obstructions like walls, doors, and aquariums can improve performance.
- Make sure all unused devices are off and not draining bandwidth with large downloads.
- Check for possible sources of interference such as microwave ovens, refrigerators or other equipment.
- Run a mesh test to confirm placement of your Wifi points.

You cannot hook particular devices to a certain access point and so if any of your devices randomly pick the point instead of the main ethernet node, you will be less than half the performance of the main node. Seriously was getting 13 mbps from the point and 150 mbps from the main node, sitting in the same place with line of sight to point and the two devices only like 20 feet apart, Terrible performance.

Speeds are not great

My WiFi goes out about once every couple weeks for about 15 minutes. I have called google multiple times and each time they have me do a system reset. That fixes it for about 2 weeks. It’s been the worst mesh WiFi I’ve had. Will be switching to Eero.

There can be several reasons for Google Nest WiFi to not deliver the bandwidth it receives from your modem. Obstruction from walls or furniture, placement of the router, the distance between the router and the points as well as incorrect setups.

Things were working working fine for a month. Now, all of a sudden, one of the wifi points stopped working. It can't find internet anymore after one month. I sat on hold with BEST BUY for over an hour trying to see if there is anything they can do. After listening to on hold music for an hour I finally gave up and hung up. Don't know if i just got a bad batch or what. I would have suggested it up until now.

We an suggest the following troubleshooting steps that could help:
Perform a five minute power cycle:
- Disconnect power from modem. Disconnect Ethernet cable and power from your Nest Wifi. Leave them all unplugged for five minutes. Connect power to modem and allow the modem to power on fully before proceeding. This can take up to two minutes. All light indicators should be solid. Connect Ethernet cable and power to your Nest Wifi. Wait until it’s fully back online.
You can also perform a factory data reset to further isolate the issue:
- Look for a circle etched into the bottom. Press and hold the factory reset button at the bottom of your Google Nest Wifi router for 10 seconds. The light will pulse yellow, then turn solid yellow. When the light is solid yellow, release the button. Once the button is released, the light will turn solid white for a brief moment (five seconds), then to a solid orange light.
- Once the light turns to solid orange, this will start the reset process. It can take up to 10 minutes. Do not unplug the power cord during this process.
- When factory reset is complete, the light on your router will turn to a faint solid white light. After a few seconds, it will pulse white.
- Once the Nest Wifi router is pulsing white, it's ready for setup.

Simple, Elegant and Excellent Coverage!

Looks great in my farmhouse rustic style house (unlike my bulky Comcast router). Set up took all of 10 minutes to complete, the hardest part is getting all of your devices onto the new router. If your like me you have a lot of devices so it takes time. My house is single story w/finished basement totaling 2600 sq ft. I’ve got the router on one side of the house upstairs and the booster in my basement on the other side of the house which produces a solid coverage net for my house. No dead spaces, no slow zones! The trick is to spread them out and separate them. Oh and this bad boy ties in easily if you already have nest products in the house and has simple integration into the nest app.

Extremely Slow with drop connections.

Despite getting a 800+Mbps download and 40Mbps+ upload from the modem, this router cripples my speed to as low as 25 Mbps download. Even when the download speed is around 500Mbps, the Experience is still very slow on all devices. On my 2018 iMac, quad core, 40G Ram browsing the internet is noticeably slow. I really wish I can get my money.

- The internet speed from your provider may be currently slower than expected. Please check with your ISP to make sure your modem is indeed delivering the expected download and upload speeds.
- Building materials and other objects located between your router and WiFi points or between your WiFi points and mobile devices may slow your connection. If possible, try to use your device within a clear line of sight to your router or point.
- There could be congestion on your Wi-Fi network if you have many connected devices to the network. As all these devices consume a portion of your available Wi-Fi bandwidth, your laptop may not get high speeds. You can try relieving the network by disconnecting some of the devices to see if this would increase the Wi-Fi speed for your laptop.
- Restarting your modem can fix internet connection problems, improve slow performance and resolve common wireless issues. Even if your modem appears to be working correctly, you may need to restart it to establish a secure connection to the Wi-Fi point.

Kamikaze Router

By January 16, 2021 I finally determined the router was slowing down my internet speeds. Significantly. When I finally figured the modem & devices were not the issues, Nest Wifi completely failed entirely. It stopped broadcasting any level of signal, making it impossible to find/add on the Google Home App. Not sure why this product went from impaired to deceased, but Google Nest Wifi kamikaze'd my home network.

Thanks for your feedback. We are sorry for the Wi-Fi speed issue you are experiencing with your Nest Wifi.
If you're using a modem/router combo, then it's most likely that you're experiencing a double NAT scenario where your combo and Nest Wifi Router are broadcasting the same SSID and password. The effect of a double NAT will be similar to the connectivity issue you reported to us. Nest Wifi doesn't really work with other 3rd party routers to create a Wi-Fi mesh network. You can only use Google Wifi and Nest Wifi Routers/Points together to create a Wi-Fi mesh network. To fix this, you can put your combo in Bridge mode to disable its Wi-Fi functionality and create a Nest Wifi mesh with the primary Nest Wifi Router wired to your combo, then connect the other Nest Wifi Points to it.

I'm in a 2100 sq foot house and the amount of dead spots was ridiculous. We would sit 8 feet away from a pod and couldn't even connect laptop or the signal would turn on and off repeatedly. Returned and purchased a Netgear router. So far so good, no dead spots to report.

- Open the Google Home app.
- Tap Wi-Fi.
- At the top, tap Devices.
- Tap a specific device and a tab to find additional details:
Speed: Real time usage is how much data your device is currently using. Usage is how much data the device has used over the selected time frame.
Info: Device details like connection status, IP address, and MAC address.
