Worked just fine for the first month, but then randomly one day, the internet stopped. Turns out, they have a “feature” (traffic meter) that will automatically disconnect your internet after a certain amount of data is transmitted. It was not obvious that was the issue, but after spending hours to figure that out, disabled it and we were back in action. The issues never stopped after that. I have a Gigabit connection and this router is not capable of delivering anything close to that. Max I can get it up to is 600mbps (wired). Lately, I cannot get more than 400mbps and there are quite of threads on Netgear community with this same issue. The other issue I cannot get past is how Wi-Fi is faster than wired connection on this router. Do not buy. Netgear support sucks and this specific router seems have many hidden features that make the decision of how fast your internet is.

    Headaches galore

For nearly $400, this should work straight out of the box. It does not. The Nighthawk app struggles to connect and repeatedly asks to log back in to the router. Often it fail to connect to the router and half the time it never logs into the router. Comcast would show good numbers during the speed tests (anywhere from 150-700 mbps download, 30-80 upload), but the router itself would provide download speeds around 10 mbps and upload <1 mbps. The connection dropped constantly. I called Netgear support and never made it past hold after waiting for 20 minutes. Most smart home devices, like our Ring doorbell/cameras/alarm and Yale smart lock, were never able to connect. Netgear support emailed us about a potential problem and solution to fix the device, but it wouldn’t allow me to log in to my account to actually read it! We ordered a separate Motorola MB8600 modem and TP-link Ax3000, saving over $100. We were up and running with all smart home devices in less than an hour and our internet speeds are now fantastic. I cannot recommend anyone buy this device. Such a major pain in the rear.

Not as great as I thought it would be, only getting 5g wifi on my phone, have an ethernet cable on the way for my main computer. The 2.5g goes on forever down my street. I'll keep playing with the settings.

DO NOT BUY… unless you enjoy your life being a living nightmare bouncing calls between your network provider and net gear for HOURS who will both tell you everything looks great on their end when you know good and well you have no internet at all (Ethernet nor WiFi) or some devices will connect and some won’t or they show WiFi icon like it’s connected and still doesn’t work… I’ve had older net gear products that worked wonderfully but this one is crap, PLEASE junk this model and save your customers the nervous breakdown. You can keep hard resetting it (keep a paper clip handy as simply unplugging power doesn’t work), re-register and reconnect ALLLLL of your devices daily (even if you choose the same username and passwords after reset) and it’ll work just fine…for a day and you’re right back to square one. We saw some similar complaints before buying and chalked it up to ignorance but they were 100% right.

    Best option for Xfinity

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I've tested the Motorola MG8725 and MG8733 and the Netgear CAX30S... easily I'd say to get this one. 1. Better wifi signal when surveying spots throughout my house. Netgear def had more range, therefore maintaining better wifi speeds over the other options. 2. Super easy setup. It walks you through every step. Make sure you download the Xfinity app to establish the MAC ID with them, and then the Netgear app to complete the setup. 3. Motorola app is very nice, but I think the Netgear app is better, especially if you are comfortable with technology in any way. 4. Speeds were equal to the other modem/router options mentioned wired, so no matter what ratings they claim, they are all capable of handling Xfinity speed options. Wired were 1G (Motorola the same) Wireless within 15 feet were 650-700 (Motorola about the same) Wireless within 30 feet with walls 500 (Motorola about the same) Wireless within 50 feet with doors, walls, outside the house were over 100 (Motorolas were almost losing connection and maybe 25) The current Xfinity list of approved routers mentioned the CAX30 however I can confirm that Xfinity considers the CAX30S an approved device and it works perfectly with their services. In fact, the manual and app setup explicitly discusses steps to setup with Xfinity, so this is a good option as an Xfinity customer.

Very Difficult to Make Work with Comcast

This product is supposed to be compatible with Comcast and is approved by Comcast for use on their network. You would think that it would be a direct, plug-and-play replacement for the equivalent Comcast product but that is not the case. I spent about a month trying to get it to work reliably with Comcast and got bounced back-and-forth between Netgear Support and Comcast Support trying to get it to work reliably. I finally gave up, returned it to Best Buy and decided to go back to the standard Comcast Cable Modem/Router.

I've had constant issues since installing this modem/router. Initial setup was long and you have to use their poorly designed app to get things setup. Reset the router only to have to reset it again a few days later because of connectivity issues. When it's freshly restarted from a power cycle, it works great, but connection goes bad before the day even ends. Wifi connection is very poor. I moved the router to be 10 ft away from one of my computers and it still has connection issues. I plugged in my 4 year old Linksys router I previously had and the connection is so much more reliable, so it's definitely the Netgear hardware. My smartTV and other smart devices always get lost or have connection issues. I normally will cast video from my phone to my TV to watch things, but I always have trouble with it working because of this router. I seriously regret spending $350 on this thing. Would have rather bought a separate modem and router if I had known how bad this thing was.
