This modem gets great reviews. I have had nothing but problems. The device works for a while and then all of a sudden nothing will connect to it. The messages state "cant get IP address"!!!! At the same time i have a mesh attached to extend it and it works fine! Contacted service provider & says internet is fine. To top it off, I've had it for 4 months and their wanting me to pay for additional customer service! This modem is not cheap and has been a true pain in the but!

    Garbage

Total garbage. Started off where devices connected through it were simply laggy. Then half the devices in the house stopped connecting. I spoke with Netgear tech support and the took the items that weren't connecting and they gave me static IP addresses for those devices. I was able to get those devices connected - albeit they're still laggy. Tonight, half the devices disconnected again (some with static IPs and some without). I spoke with Netgear tech support tonight because my phone simply wouldn't connect nor would one of my TVs. Tech support made sure to totally break my internet connection on all devices tonight. After 3 hours, multiple factory resets, and lots of frustration, the device is broken. It's operated for less than a month.

I've owned several different modem/routers over the years and this one by far was the most disappointing by far. During the setup process with the app everything was going well as I activated it with my ISP and set up the SSID. I was ready to go online but there was a major issue I couldn't go online with the router if DHCP was enabled. I contact Netgear support about this issue and I cannot stress enough how horrible it was dealing with these people. If I contact the manufacturer of a product like this I'm hoping they will know something that I haven't already tried on my own. The router was also broadcasting both my 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz SSIDs twice but wouldn't connect to either with DHCP enabled. Netgear's bright idea was for me to change my SSID which I had been using for years and years so then I would have to go into all of my smart home devices and set them up for another SSID. I was not going to do this so I boxed up this Nighthawk and went back to using my Arris. I was able to connect to the router using a static IP before returning and I just want to mention the router is slow and its connection quality was horrible. I could be standing 10 feet from it using a static IP and the WIFI would drop from cell phone. I hooked up my old Arris Surfboard AC2300 DOCSIS 3.0 and although it is older than the latest and greatest from Netgear it is still better than this Nighthawk.

I was excited for the router/modem. The router was great for about 6 months. Then the router stopped producing speeds over 200. I pay for 1200 speeds and expect at least 600 or more speed. However this was not the case after resetting, updating, clearing everything, etc. I tested my other routers and the worked like a charm. Very disappointed, especially with the cost.

the modem stopped working 10 days before it turns 2 years from purchase, called Netgear costumer service, they sent me to best buy to check it out, went their spendan hour from my time, and the squad service sait they don't check this kind of devices in store, you have to schedule a home visit for 100 bucks, without fixing it, because they don't fix this of devices. it is so funny and frustrating, paying 400 for device that last less than 2 years is a scam. both netgear and best buy are done for me.

Goes offline and had to do hard reset per customer support and end up having to add all my devices back to the network. Too new(just purchased this product 2 weeks ago) to have to experience this many issues. There's not enough time on the return or exchange policy to see the flaws in products. Not satisfied, especially for the amount paid and are stuck keeping the product.

As the title says, the router died after about a year and 9 months. I don't know if that's worth the price and the app they are pushing actually breaks the direct interface with a popup that breaks the screen. Overall it was fine when it worked but when it didn't it really broke and we were down for hours on our own to fix it.

For a device that costs this much, you think it would last longer than a year. Stopped working 2 months after year warranty expired. App stopped recognizing it. Wouldn’t hold a charge even though it was plugged in. Bought it to stop renting from the cable company, but it ended up costing me more. High price for low functioning item. Zero stars if I could.

Netgear shot themselves in the foot with trying to integrate the modem with the app but it's creating lots of issues mostly bugs and lots of things can go wrong from step one while setting the device up. You can't run your internet without setting up the modem from the app. But when it runs perfectly it's a really strong modem.

Initially when I purchased this, it was much better than the modem provided from XFinity. As firmware updates came available, it prompted to update, and that is where all the problems began. After the firmware updates, it would start to slow down, then gradually drop all Wi-Fi connections. I have been working with NETGEAR for months trying to resolve this, and all that has done is make it worse. This router should operate up to 1801Mbps. It will not do that anymore, the firmware has locked it back to 860Mbps, and if you try to change it to 1801Mbps, it will kick it back to 430Mbps. Firmware updates have rendered this product nearly inoperable. It must be rebooted no less than once a week, sometimes two or 3 times. Given my experience, I cannot recommend this item at all. I have owned this item for 10 months. Professionally, I work in the telecom/broadband communications industry. I have never encountered such an inconsistent product. Especially at the price point.

Got this modem router because of the brand and specs. I was not able to try since it never connected. Spectrum tech was unable to get the modem to connect, got stuck on the upstream blinking light,, and did not go any further. Had a Spectrum tech come to my home to try to get it to connect, after 35 minutes we gave up. I chatted with a NETGEAR tech support, only to be told that it was Spectrum who had to figure it out. What a let down!
