The Nextbase iQ 4k is, true to its name, capturing scenes in remarkable 4k detail. Daytime videos showcase vibrant colors and sharp contrasts, while the camera's low-light performance is commendable, thanks to its advanced sensor technology, ensuring every detail on the road is vividly recorded. An intelligent parking mode transforms the iQ 4k into a silent guardian for your vehicle. With motion detection and G-sensor technology, the dashcam autonomously begins recording upon detecting impact or movement, providing crucial footage in parked incidents. Safety takes precedence with the Emergency SOS Response feature. In the event of a collision, the dashcam can automatically alert emergency services with your location and medical details, providing an additional layer of security and peace of mind. The inclusion of GPS logging adds another layer to the iQ 4k's capabilities, recording the precise location and speed of your vehicle, offering crucial information in the event of an incident and ensuring an added layer of accountability. The Nextbase iQ 4k goes above and beyond with its premium subscription service. This service provides full-time 4G cell connectivity, enabling users to access a live feed of the camera remotely. This innovative feature offers real-time monitoring, adding an extra dimension to the dashcam's capabilities. Without the subscription you are able to view footage remotely, but only via the alerts sent to your phone. With exceptional 4k video quality, intelligent features, and the groundbreaking premium subscription service for full-time 4G connectivity, this dashcam stands out as a leader in its category.

Mehh! Is my reaction to this product overall. From the setup to the features to the usage, eveything was iffy and left me wondering if I am really going to keep this. Let me just preface this by saying I already have a Nextbase dashcam - its been serving me really really well for the past 2-3 years now. So, I am obviously going to compare this to the older model. So, lets start with the installation - instead of a suction cup that can be easily moved around if you do not like the position you set up initially, you have to stick this on. It comes with a 3M sticker pad attached. So, sure its more secure, but the installation is a lot less forgiving, you need to be sure where you put this thing on first time. What's worse is that once installed, it has no flex left to right or rotationally, only up and down. <facepalm>. My older model had all sorts of flex I could rotate it, move it left to right, so I could get a better view. Once you've fixed it you come to your next challenge - the wire - you get options to plug it into the OBD2 port or directly into your fuse box (they give you 4 fuse sizes so you are covered), but no option to plug it into a USB or a cigarette lighter port. So, if you do plug it into OBD2, it can use the car battery even when the car is switched off, so keep that in mind. I used OBD2 but I don't like the lack of options. There is no viewing screen on the devide itself, so you can't see a live view anytime you want. You would have to do that through the app, and it takes about half a minute to connect and start the live view (behind a paid sub). A lot of the features are also behind a subscription - 4g connectivity, real time alerts, live view. Check these out before you make your decision - https://nextbase.com/smart-dash-cams/iq-smart-dash-cam/. Some features are also not ready yet, so I am not even going to talk about them here. The quality itself is good, its a solid build and the image looks good in the day time and ok in the night time. I really don't know if pixels matter, because in bad light conditions the image is still pixelated. Its better than the older model for sure, so that's something. It comes with a 64gb SD card which can barely hold 2-3 days of data at the full resolution that its designed for. I like the idea of the "Witness Mode" - which essentially sends the recording (video and audio) automatically to your choice of contact - so if you are in a spot of bother with an aggressive driver or worse, this can help you out. Overall, I still think I might just go back to my older model. Sure, it wasn't as fancy but it had an ease of use with the built in screen that I just can't seem to shake off.

Best dash cam I have used

I've had several dash cams over the years. Most were good, but all left something to be desired. Enter the Nextbase iQ 4K. This is really a step forward in dash cams. The device is very well made and doesn't feel like a cheap plastic toy like all the others I have had. Set up is very easy with the app guiding the way. In terms of what you need to do, it is really just a matter of mounting it and running the cable to your OBD II port. Everything else is done on your phone. The forward facing 4K camera gives a very clear image that even looks good at night (an area most dash cams struggle with). The cab camera, although a lower resolution, also gives an excellent image. An optional rear window camera is available, but I don't have one yet. A note regarding running the power. The optimal way to connect the camera is with the OBD II port. However, a very well thought out optional fuse box connection is also provided. In my case, I purchased an OBD II splitter so I can keep an open port for use with a code reader and it works perfectly. The app is where everything comes together. There are two subscription plans depending on the features you require. I personally think you get a lot for your money with these subscriptions. Real time alerts if something happens while you are away from your car, ability to communicate (and watch) what is going on if you let someone else is using the car, automatic 911 service and even the ability to activate a witness mode in the event of such things as a road rage episode (you can have it send the recording to a contact of your choosing). And it can do so much more. Keep in mind that you can use this unit without a subscription, but it is very limited as most of the features require the 4G signal that the subscription plan provides. So really, it is much more than a dash cam. It's more like an automated camera/security/safety system. I have no complaints whatsoever with the Nextbase iQ 4K and really think it is something everyone should have.

    High Expectations, Big Disappointment

I agree with another review on here that this dash cam is not ready for primetime. The Nextbase IQ has great potential, I just experienced a lot of issues with it. To start with something positive, one feature that is really on its side is the ease of [physically] installing it. The included ODB cord makes it very easy to plug the camera right in to the ODB port of your car. Tuck away the generously long cord and the camera is powered up. The other positive feature of this dash cam is the excellent 4K image quality. Videos are very detailed and clear. In order to interact with the camera, you need to install the companion app. After installing it on my Galaxy s22 Ultra, I hit the first road block. To connect the camera to the app, you need to scan a QR code on the camera’s tiny display. That was quite a challenge and took numerous attempts. After I was finally able to scan the QR code, the app took a little while to add the camera. It seemed to “buffer” for a while; then, it gave me a message that it failed to connect to the camera. I then had to start all over over, with scanning the QR code. It took 3 times before I was able to finally get the app to add the camera. Sheesh! The next challenge was the fact that the app needed to install a firmware update. This also took numerous attempts because it kept failing. I finally realized that it seemed to be failing because my phone’s screen was timing out before the installation was complete. I’m not sure if this is coincidental or not, but the time it finally worked was when I kept my phone awake by constantly touching the screen. I have to note that I did not follow the installation steps exactly as instructed by the app. I skipped the step where it said to mount the camera on the windshield. I wasn’t quite sure where I wanted to place it on my windshield and wanted to be able to play around with the best spot. Well, that was a mistake and brought to light a big limitation of this camera. You cannot view live images from the camera, on the app, without a monthly paid subscription. The one time during the installation process is the only time you can view a live image on the camera without paying for it. I was very surprised and disappointed by this limitation. Consequently, I signed up for the free, 3-month trial subscription. OK. Now I can concentrate on the best spot to mount the camera. Wrong! Because this camera NEEDS a 4G connection to communicate with the app, I was still not able to view a live image. I live in an area where this is only 1 cell tower and it only has AT&T service on it. During all this time, I picked up the camera off my dash, and was a bit shocked by how hot the camera was. I’m not sure if this is because the camera was in a constant state of trying to get a cell signal. It’s the only thing I could think of because I’ve noticed that if my phone is having poor reception, it can sometimes feel a bit warmer than normal. This camera was HOT. This makes me very nervous because I live in Las Vegas and the summers get around 115. (It was currently 75 degrees.) I reported this to Nextbase tech support and they said the camera is designed to shut down if it gets too hot. Now I’m thinking… will this camera even work during the summer here? At this point, I just unplugged the camera and decided to try again the next time I headed out, away from home and closer to more cell towers and better reception. The next day, when out and about, I tried the camera again. I brought up the app and was prompted to install an update. The most notable upgrade was the addition of Bluetooth connectivity. I got excited that this might help in areas of no/low cell reception and viewing images. Customer service said that Bluetooth was added to only assist with eSOS. It does not help with viewing live images from the camera, even if you’re right next to the camera. Anyway, in an area with good cell reception, I was able to view live images from the camera on the app. On the drive home, the camera worked as expected. One quirky thing did happen though. I just missed passing through a stop light, so I was there for a “normal” full cycle of a stop light. Once the light turned green, I received a parking event alert. Apparently, while at the stop light, the camera thought I was parked. I have yet to replicate this. This is a pretty expensive dash cam. With all the issues I experienced, I can’t say that I would recommend this to anyone… especially with having to pay a monthly subscription to view any images files on the app. I feel like for the price, the Bluetooth connectivity should allow you to view images from the camera’s SD card and, for easier set up purposes, allow you to view live images when right by the camera. Then, if you want all the other fancy features like the the voice commands, remote features and viewing live images from the camera when not near your car, then you can pay for the monthly subscription. I have another dash cam, in my kids car, that probably contributed to my high expectations for this camera. With the other dash cam, at a cheaper price, I am able to view images from camera’s SD card on the companion app… without a monthly subscription. With the IQ dash cam, without a subscription, you would have to remove the SD card and insert it into your computer in order to view the stored files. Lacking this basic (unpaid) functionality, this camera is definitely not worth $700.

Thank you for taking the time to share your detailed feedback on the Nextbase IQ dash cam. We genuinely appreciate your insights and apologize for the challenges you encountered during your experience.

We're pleased to hear that you found the physical installation process straightforward and that the 4K image quality met your expectations. We understand the importance of ease of use and visual clarity in a dash cam.

We're genuinely sorry to hear about the difficulties you faced with the companion app, particularly the QR code scanning and firmware update installation. We acknowledge that this can be frustrating and impact the overall user experience. We have since improved the user experience by deploying several fixes through firmware updates.

Regarding the limitation of live image viewing without a subscription. It's crucial for us to learn about user expectations and concerns, there are options to have the product without a subscription and continue to view the footage.

We have tested the iQ in extreme temperatures and have included different heat sink technology to keep the product as cool as it can, it will get warm like a lot of electronic devices, but not too hot to touch.

Your suggestion regarding Bluetooth connectivity and expanded functionality, such as viewing images from the SD card without a subscription, is noted. We continuously strive to improve our products, and your feedback will be instrumental in shaping future updates and features.

Thank you for sharing this feedback and we will continually innovate the iQ to bring a best in class service.

Okay so this is the dash cam to beat all dash cams ! So to get the less desirable things out of the way first: there is a subscription required to their app in order to take advantage of all of the features of this dash cam but it is more than worth it. Also the size is a little cumbersome but we found if mounted behind and just to the right of the rear view mirror it is barely noticeable. And it is a little pricey in the wallet department but again - more than worth it in the long run. Although promised that professional quality installation can be accomplished by anyone, we decided to spend just a few dollars to have it professionally install by our local mechanic shop so that the continuous power is correct and not inadvertently draining and all the wires are completely hidden and none the trim work broken when doing that. As for the good traits; it has them all but for the sake of brevity the best ones are that the picture quality is the best we've seen yet, but day and night, rain and shine. Plan on spending about 45 minutes setting up the app. Once completed you're good to go. We can check on our car no matter where we are in the world possibly thousands of miles away. The voice commands make this dashcam a breeze to operate. And the motion detector and alerts and incident marking are an absolute necessity that we didn't realize we needed until we had it, so if someone slightly bumps into your car in a packing lot while backing up the motion sensor alerts you remotely and marks the incident so along with the excellent picture quality you can zoom in on the other car's license plate if they 'hit & run' and drive off. All in all we would recommend this dash cam to our friend and family. And we will be getting another one for our other car shortly.

My gripe - the subscriptions. I'm jumping right into this to get it out of the way. This is like micro-transactions in games to me at this point. Paying for a premium product and then getting lassoed into recurring monthly fees is the adult version of micro-gaming transactions. I'll leave it at that, but .5 of the 1 star being removed is due to this. Not a total deal breaker for me, but as consumers we've been allowing a slippery-slope to take place and it is only going to get more and more out of hand. The other .5 of a star is the bulkiness of the iQ. It is rather view-obstructing to say the least. I mounted it in each of our vehicles and in our smallest car (a Fiat 500 Abarth) you had a hard time looking across to the front passenger fender and being able to see clearly for oncoming anything. I tried mounting it a little lower on the windshield, but then you have an obstructed view at the hoodline that is more than I'm personally comfortable with. Again, not a TOTAL deal-breaker, but I wanted to mention it right up front that all the tech these things pack has to go somewhere, so they are a bit on the larger side. The performance of the camera itself is top-notch. Video quality is amazing day or night, rain or shine. The app is great, and all the information is exactly where you expect it to be. Accessing your videos (subscription!) is quick/painless (grrrrrrr) so at least know that your monthly payments are being put to good use in that regard. Mount the thing, get it hooked up, sign up for the free 3-month trial and when that expires pay or don't. The payments ensure you have Emergency Service contact whenever there's an accident/issue sensed, that your videos can be accessed at a moments notice, and the constant 4G LTE connection. I just wish you could have a version of this top-shelf model in a subscription-free version where you could have the same video quality while only needing to use an SD or something along those lines to store your videos locally. Nextbase has lower-tier models more akin to this, but obviously they want you to pony-up for this other bells/whistles, so I get it. All-in-all, a good dashcam, just huge and that stinkin' monthly fee.

I love everything about my Nextbase iQ. I have been waiting a little over a year since I 1st read about the Nextbase iQ Dash Cam and ever since I installed it I have gotten everything I hoped for. A true ease in installation with z simple plug into the OBD port. A top quality 4k image in all video playback and the coolest part of the camera have immediate access to see what is around my car while I am away from it!! With the cost of what I just bought my last car for, putting in this iQ to protect the car and any accidents I may be in is one of teh best investments that I have made!!

A Quality Dashcam Reliant on the Subscription

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

First off do not be mislead by the way I titled my review. The Nextbase iQ 4K Smart Dashcam with 4G/GPS is an incredible product in many ways which far outweigh the cons of the subscription model. Firstly let's talk Field of View and Quality. This dashcam can perfectly capture the entire front of your car's area and your entire car's cabin while not sacrificing any audio either. The night vision is quite impressive to say the least for a dashcam of this caliber and it doesn't give up much detail in the dead of night. The quality of the design video and audio is second to none. The features in this dashcam are top tier and impressive to say the least. Firstly this dashcam is 4G enabled, that means that you can at any time access this dash camera without being in or near the car. The alerts are almost instantaneous to your smartphone and very easy to playback. I had my car in the shop for some work and was able to easily connect and check the dashcam playback and even live as they did work. Gives a bit of big brother vibes, I know, but making sure my car isn't going somewhere it shouldn't or (insert paranoid car owner horror story here) is important. The Smart Sense Parking works EXTREMELY well... I'd say possibly too well. Every time I got back in my car it triggered an alert of a Parking Event, even before I opened the door. Now, when away from your car, its amazing. When coming back to your car every single time getting a push notification can get a bit annoying but that is no fault of the product. You just know it works well. Let's talk about the main cons I have, the Protect Plus feature set as I mentioned is absolutely incredible however that feature set comes with a ~$200/Year (or $17 a month if you divide by 12) price tag. That is a steep investment in the subscription model for a dash cam. Granted, you are given a lot of features once you pay it. However, if you choose to go with the Free tier, expect that 90% of the features of this dashcam become locked out to you. When purchasing this unit it’s important to be sure to factor in the cost of that subscription as an operating cost along with the capital cost of the camera itself. For me the $200.00 subscription is worth the price tag for what you get, but if you are looking for a non-cloud-based product this may not be the product for you as it highly relies on the cloud to function along with the 4G connectivity, which again, is included in that subscription. Case Study… if you live in an area where car theft is rampant, wouldn’t it be great to open your phone and show the police a picture of the guy who stole your car, and a live video of him jamming out to Taylor Swift as he tries to get away with your vehicle including his GPS location? That scenario, although funny, is exactly where this product shines. Someone stealing your car may not think it’s a camera that is connected live to the cloud… furthermore, if they see that dashcam, they may think twice of taking it for a joyride. If you want the highest tech dashcam that is on the market today with AI technology, cloud-based replay, and a slew of other impressive features you can look no further than the iQ 4K. However, if you only want local recording (to an SD Card), and basic peace of mind when it comes to a Dash Cam, the Nextbase, may be a bit much for your liking because you are wasting 90% of the features if you don't want to subscribe to the additional feature set.

The IQ 4K Smart Dash Cam from Nextbase is an impressive piece of equipment. From the packaging to the device itself, Nextbase has really done a good job. The IQ includes multiple options for powering the device through either your vehicle's ODB connector, or directly into your fuse box. It even has a "power down" feature so it doesn't drain your battery. I chose the ODB option and by using the included "tuck tool" was able to easily hide the excess cord in the vehicle trim. After downloading the app, the instructions ask that you leave the vehicle running during the process. Obviously, this means you shouldn't try this in the garage! Unfortunately, it took me about 20 minutes and a call to tech support because my Iphone would not read the tiny QR code on the very small IQ screen. It took the interior lights, and the flashlight before my phone would read the QR and pair the device. (maybe they can include a card with the code instead). After pairing, I suggest holding the IQ in place while you view what will be recorded as once you "stick" it to your windshield there's very little adjustment. Nextbase suggests installation high up, near the rearview mirror but my vehicle (22 Mazda CX5) has the black dot material in this area. Since the IQ "sticks" to the windshield, I mounted mine a little lower. Although it is visible while driving it's not at all distractive. Since this is the 4k model, the recording quality of the videos is crisp, clear and reproduces color very well. It appears that the only video accessible from the phone app are what Nextbase refers to as "incidents" such as parking the car, entering/exiting the vehicle, or when the IQ detects movement around the vehicle. Video of actual driving events are available by removing the MicroSD card and viewing on a computer. (make sure you have an SD card reader). Sound is recorded clearly via the IQ microphone and although the interior video is black/white, it is still very clear. Voices are easily understood during playback. With GPS capabilities, not only does the IQ know where your car is, you can also monitor speed and the location if someone else is driving. It includes crash detection and SOS as additional features. The IQ is a high-quality dashcam, made by a company that specializes in dashcams, not by someone who "also makes" dashcams. The unit feels very well made, is packaged well, and includes everything you need for a neat, clean installation. Although most people will probably not need to call tech support, it's good to know that their people are helpful and patient. This may be a little more expensive than similar products but so far really seems to be worth it!

This dashcam created a lot of buzz when it was announced and was even given some "Best of" awards for all of the smart features it has. You've got 4k recording, Live view, SmartSense Parking, Witness mode, Emergency SOS response, Roadwatch AI, and Guardian mode. I won't get into detail about what all of these do, or are supposed to do, but you can see all of that on their website. So what does it *actually* do? Well, it does do 4k video, and it's very clear, as well as infrared night vision which is actually pretty clear as well. It also does send alerts when the vehicle is parked. However, I have gotten "Impact" alerts when I know for a fact nothing impacted or was even close to my vehicle because I was looking right at it. And I've gotten "Parking Event" alerts, but when I click on the notification and it takes me to the iQ app, it takes me to the Live view and then under "Events" it says there are none. I have to go to the video history to see any recorded event. And not only that, but when you click on a notification and it opens the app, it goes through a 20-30 seconds long loading process where it's "Waking iQ", then "Connecting to Live Stream", then "Retrieving video". So if there is an event and you want to see what's going on, the event may be over by the time you get the video up. And the actual "Live" view is delayed by several seconds as well. So you can always check the recorded video, which is saved to the installed SD card as well as backed up to the cloud, but don't think you're going to be able to see events as they're happening. And the timestamps on the video can be confusing as well. Nextbase is a UK based company and apparently the date is in the format they use, where it's day/month/year, so 11/7/23 will look like 7/11/23. And there's no way to change the date format that I can find. The time stamp is even weirder. I'm not even sure what it's based off of, but even though you can (and I have) set my timezone, it seems to be ignoring it. Witness mode seems to work fine, and I can't really test the Emergency SOS response. Then there's Guardian mode and Roadwatch AI. Those features are not even available yet (says "Coming Soon". The rear camera also isn't available until 11/12, but I have ordered it to actually have 360 degree coverage, so we'll see how it works. And a most of these features require a monthly subscription in order to use. From $10-$20/month. Yes, per month. Whether that's worth it or not is up to you. It may be if the features it's supposed to have get added and work as they should. Hopefully some firmware updates will fix some of the issues because it really has a lot of potential. And there is a free trial to try out the features to see if they are useful to you or not. But the install was super simple though and the app seems to work fine (other than the speed of loading). So hopefully they get the issues worked out and the features added because I really want to like this product, but it's just not there, yet.

Being an automotive enthusiast and a tech loving individual, I love all of the new security technology that is being put out for the auto industry. I've gone through my fair share of dashcams, with all sorts of features, but the Nextbase - iQ 4K Smart Dash Cam just takes it to an entire new level. The evolution of dashcam technology has really come a long way. I really love the fact that Nextbase is integrating AI technology into their dashcams. The Nextbase - iQ 4K Smart Dash Cam really gives me peace of mind knowing that my truck is protected, even when I'm away. With two camera (front and in-babin/rear), you are covered both ways. I love the fact that it automaticly senses danger and sends you a notification right away. I am able to keep an eye on my truck when it is parked out in the street. The Nextbase - iQ 4K Smart Dash Cam really puts in work to keep your vehicle safe. With 4k video quality, you see everything so clearly. I can access videos directly from my phone without having to remove a memory card. This is extremely helpful and necessary during an emergency. Speaking of emergency, the Nextbase - iQ 4K Smart Dash Cam can automatically notify the proper parties whenever it senses an accident/emergency. Not only does it keep your vehicle safe, but it keeps YOU safe as well. Of course, a subscription is required for the service, but you already spend unecessary money on a cup of cofee every morning. You get everything you need to mount and power the Nextbase - iQ 4K Smart Dash Cam. You have the option to use a cigarette lighter power source, or a hardwire source. I like to hardwire my dashcams on all of my vehicles, as this makes for a cleaner install, and frees up your lighter source power. The hardwire installation requires you to find the proper fuse amp power source, a ground, and crimp, and you are good to go. The Nextbase - iQ 4K Smart Dash Cam is a bit pricey, but in my opinion, it is worth the money. Keep you vehicle and yourself safe at all times. Get yourself the Nextbase - iQ 4K Smart Dash Cam.

I have been waiting for this dash cam to launch and I am so glad I waited! Lives up to my expectations for a truly smart dash camera. The set up was SO easy with the OBD connector. The videos are crisp and clear and the app was so easy to use. With responsive voice commands, the dash cam is also hands free. Makes me feel safer while driving with all these crazies on the road!

This is the best dashcam I've ever had! The camera quality is unmatched. You can actually read license plates and see details. The advertised 4k is no joke. The cabin view camera is 1440p which is more than enough for the cabin. Installation is straightforward and I have no doubt the included adhesive will hold over time. It comes with a 32 GB microSD card and a 4G SIM card pre-installed. It also has an additional port if you want to add the rearview camera at a later time. You can use the dashcam without additional subscriptions, but to get the full experience I encourage you to take a look at the plans. If your kid is borrowing the car, being able to have the Live View option is worth it, in my opinion. It comes in clutch having the option to make sure inexperienced drivers are practicing safe driving. Additionally, the dashcam itself has a small footprint and is not overly flashy. Overall, I'd say you won't be disappointed if you get this dashcam! It comes with all the bells and whistles, and the camera quality is top-notch.

I've been wanting to get a dash cam for a very long time; I live in Arizona, and the average driver out here does about 20 mph OVER the limit always, NEVER uses turn signals, and we have a horrible accident rate as well, so getting a dash cam is a very smart thing out here, and, being a tech nut, I was thrilled to see that someone came out with a 4k/very communicative dash cam. I knew of Next bases high quality reputation, so once these was released, I was happy to get one..unfortunately, the rear window cam wasnt available initially, so I could only get the front cam. Installation was done by Best buy, as I have bad arthritis in my hands and other neck issues, but I was impressed that it only took the installer about 10 minutes to get the whole job done..nice work, Best Buy! The camera worked right out of the box, and I was immediately impressed with the high quality of the camera, and how easy it was to get around in the app. I wasnt happy with the pricing for the subscription to get all the features its offers to work, plus, 2 of the main features I wanted, "guardian mode" and Roadwatch AI arent even available yet, so it remains to be seen how those 2 things actually work once released. Their tech support has been great and responsive with some minor issues/questions I have had, and I am looking forward to those 2 "features" being released quickly; once they are, I will grab the rear window camera and add it to the system, as I feel its very important out here to get coverage on what goes on behind me. Yes, this system is pricey, but it has several things that no other dash cam has at any price, so if you love tech, and want the latest and greatest features, this dash cam should be on your short list!

Me and my wife witnessed multiple car accidents in the last few months and decided we wanted to get a dashcam. We have a new sprinter van and wanted to protect that purchase. Literally within the first week we witnessed another car accident and were able to provide footage to the people in front of us. There’s a lot of peace of mind having the dashcam that records the whole time. It was easy to setup and has been a great purchase so far! I would fully recommend the nextbase camera to anyone who is considering it, it has tons of features and we like that there is a cabin camera because we leave a lot of stuff in our sprinter. Hopefully we never need it but we’re glad we have it.

First, installing and getting set up on the app was pretty straightforward and easy. Video quality is top notch! You can see all the street signs and license plate numbers with ease. I love there's motion detection which will trigger the iQ to start recording. This is especially useful because I park on city streets and for when I'm running errands. I can view the history of my drives and it will tell me my location and tell me how fast I'm going. All around I'm really impressed by what the iQ can do! Def recommend it.

I have been working with the Nextbase IQ 4K Dash Cam for several weeks now, with mixed results. I’ll start by writing about what it is supposed to be. It is a true 4K dashcam. Lots of cameras say they are 4k but have poor picture quality. During the day, this camera has excellent resolution and you get a nice wide field of view. It also records a nice view of the interior of your vehicle with audio, making it great for Uber and Lyft drivers. There is an optional camera that can be placed in your rear window, but that is sold separately, and I didn’t get it. It can be connected to your car via the ODB2 connector in your car, giving it always on capabilities. They also provide cables to attach to the fuse box, with sever size fuses. The camera has an SD card slot with an included card. It records 4 files at a time. There are high and low resolution copies of the interior view and front view. New files are generated every 30 seconds. If you subscribe to one of their services, the files are uploaded to their cloud server via a 4G connection. That’s why the files are kept to 30 seconds. From their cell phone app you can see the videos live, or download videos that you may need. It has event detection and saves clips with special names if an event is detected during the recording. Types of events are movement detection when the car is parked, parking detection, crash detection, manual event detection, and impact detection. Some of the other feature you get with their cloud plans are things like realtime event notification to your phone, SmartSense Parking (monitoring around your car when it is parked), Witness Mode (enables immediate recording and real time sharing to emergency contacts). It will also have Roadwatch AI (identifies hazards and dangers on the road but not yet working), and Guardian Mode (also not yet working). It has live view of the cameras on your phone, Live View Look Back (only with Protect Plus), remote warning, cloud storage, Automated Incident Backup (Protect Plus only), Emergency SOS (Protect Plus only), extended warranty (Protect Plus only) and remote downloads. As you can see, this is a feature packed device, but most of it’s abilities are based on a monthly service. Protect costs $99/year. Protect Plus is $199 per year. With the premium price of the dashcam, both plans are substantial investments to take into account. Without one of the plans, all the device will do is record to the SD and you can pull the SD card to get access to the files. I had a great deal of difficulty getting the camera to connect to the cloud and my phone to be able to access it. I dealt with Nextbase Support for several days before they found a problem on their end. After that, connections were hit or miss. They are pretty stable now. The other issue I have is the camera exposure. At night, the camera is over exposed. License plates that your lights shine on appear solid white. Same with street signs. While the app has controls for exposure for the forward and cabin cameras, they have no effect whatsoever on the live view, or the recorded file. I’m really not sure why it is there. When I asked support about it, they asked for a video to show them, and I’m currently working through that. In all, I have been dealing with support for well over a week. The issue I think is that their support is based in the United Kingdom so I typically get my replies at about 3 AM the day after I send something to them. It makes for a very slow process. When it comes down to it, I can’t recommend this dash cam. It’s very expensive and while it has great features, some of them aren’t currently active and you have to pay for them every year. Support is not timely, and it was extremely painful to get it working. I put in over 20 hours troubleshooting all of the issues I had, and I’m still not done. If I had bought this dash cam, I would have returned it after the 1st day of trying to get it to work. If you can afford the dash cam and the annual fees, I have to assume that they will get the bugs out of the system and get all of the features working. Then it will be a great dash cam, but right now it isn’t.

It's great to hear that the camera delivers excellent resolution during the day, providing a wide field of view and particularly useful features for Uber and Lyft drivers. Love this dash cam. Barely notice it once I installed it behind my rear view mirror. The parking feature has been especially clutch as my local grocery store is notorious for door dings and runaway carts. No issues and easy to use. Liked it so much I just got another one for my girlfriend’s car. Had a Garmin before this one. Liked it but had connection issues in less than a year.
