We bought this game yesterday because the reason my boyfriend bought the xbox was for this! We played right after we got it and it was fun! I will say the controls take some getting used to but I think with some time practicing you'd get the hag of it. What I thought was a cool feature was you can create yourself and get drafted to your favorite team and play in the games with them! The one thing I thought could be fixed was say I had a season going and my friend wanted to play as the opposing team they couldn't. In that mode you could only play with the person on their team. But I think that would be able to be fixed by a simple patch if they decide to address it.

I have been playing hockey games since ice hockey for Nintendo. NHL 16 tops them all. Player attributes are as true as can be. Game play is fluid and fast. Passing and shooting is a whole new level of control in 16. I could write a few pages on all of the pros of this game but I'll just say buy it! The only cons I can speak of are the glitch goals that are impossible to stop. If your playing online or against your friend at home it makes setting up your defense that much more important.

This is my favorite current sports game out of any of the other major ones (NBA 2K16, Madden, etc.) NHL 16 just feels like a true hockey experience. It's extremely realistic, from graphics, to game play. It has countless modes like "Be a GM" and my personal favorite "Be a Pro". All things you can lose yourself for weeks in. It's very addictive. If you have a kid who likes hockey, or if you yourself like hockey and you have a PS4 or Xbox One, do not hesitate! Buy this game!

    Great Hockey That Delivers

NHL 16 so far has been a great pick up. After skipping 14 and 15 I decided it was time to get another one and I'm definitely satisfied. Passing, shooting, fights, and the weight of both objects and players work great. EA also added a new help system that adapts to your playing as you get better and a novel idea in having a shooting grid to help you learn where to place shots. Now, this game didn't earn 5 stars because of some parts that, to me, should've been ironed out and haven't been yet. To start with, player skating still feels like they're gliding or skating on air half of the time. The player I'm controlling will often make really wide turns or take time transitioning from backwards to forward skating, instead of making sharp cuts and stops like one would expect. Checking seems to be hit or miss (no pun intended) where I can really be laying into my thumb stick to deliver a big hit and my player either won't do it, gets knocked down by the other player, or delivers a really weak hit. The biggest problem though comes from a glitch where my player carrying the puck will stop dead and refuse to skate until the puck has left his possession. This has cost me goals in a few games and a couple of wins that became losses. I went online an apparently this has been an issue for a few years now, I would have thought they'd fix it by now. Overall NHL 16 is still a great game in what it delivers. While not perfect and containing a few gripes, it's definitely the closest to playing real hockey that I've seen from a game. If you're a hockey fan, it's a must buy, especially if you haven't owned one in a few seasons. Even if your just a sports gamer, still consider giving this one a go and bring some friends over, these games always make for a great time.

Not much in way of graphic updates and the commentary gets old fast. EASHL is back which to me was the best game mode for online play, input lag though makes it frustrating at times. Some items need to be tweaked like when you call for a pass and the ai was already going to pass to you it puts you into a one time pass usually resulting in a turn over or icing.

I haven't played and NHL game in quite a few years so I wasn't sure what to expect. The controls are entirely different (there's an option to use NHL 94 controls) as you use the left and right analog sticks for most things. Overall great game, just took me a night of playing to get used to it again. Don't hesitate to buy!

Last year's NHL was awful. This one is much better, with more options to customize your team, play a season, and online gameplay is fun, too. Passing the puck is much easier, and the I feel like you just have better control of the players overall.

Far better gameplay than NHL 15. There seems to be some issues with input lag online but clearing the Xbox's Cache as suggested by others seemed to work. EA seems to be actively working on a resolution for this as well. Offline this game is amazing compared to previous NHLs.

I've really enjoyed playing NHL 16 because I love hockey and it's been years since I've had one. Took me a bit to get used to the controls but once I did I was flying all over the ice. I would recommend this game to any sport fan.

This years installment sees a huge upgrade from last years and hockey fans will be pleased. The online play is much improved, the Ultimate team mode is less of a cash grab than before, and the over all game play is vastly improved.

Excellent game if you like hockey. Graphics are good, gameplay is pretty spot on. Controls are a little different then some older titles but not hard to grasp, at least the basics. Overall I'm happy with the purchase.

Well 16 is better than 15 in most ways. Liking the be a pro mode where you stay in the ohl to test your skills and develop your player. Overall I would say EA improved over last year.

The switch to the next generation was not kind to the EA NHL franchise. NHL14 the 8 release on 360 was near perfect. Last year NHL15 the first release on the Xbox One was a completely different game, and not in a good way. They did alright, they lowered the price and patched in some new features but it was a lost year. This game is not back to NHL14 levels, but of course that took several years of development on 360 and we are in year 2. Its pretty good, but there is still room to improve. I'm happy with my purchase and actually wish i spent more on the deluxe version. This game will be better after a few patches, and im looking forward to next year.

I havent purcahsed a new NHL since NHL 14. I just got the xbox one so i thought it was time to upgrade. The graphics on this one are unreal! i love how they made it look like you are actually watching the game on NBC. I wonder how much they paid for that? Its pretty cool though. The gameplay is awesome. This one is much harder then my 14 version, but thats not a bad thing! 14 was to easy. I love the improvements. Its also awesome that they do the actual sounds and music after goals and stuff. pretty cool. GO BLACKHAWKS!!!

I'm a hockey fan, so I've been a loyal NHL series customer, but it's about time they change things up. Much better than NHL 15, but still suffers from the typical unreal AI on harder difficulties, goalies that make miraculous saves and then let in floaters, and EA's unstable servers for lagging online play. Also the first game I've ever seen with menu lag. As in press a button twice menu lag. Bleh.
