Not the Step Up I Wanted But Still Great

This game brings in so many new features to the previous game while also strangely removing the cool pokemon monster system from the last game. These new gameplay features or styles include an RTS game called skirmishes that are similar to Pikmin with controlling multiple armies with multiple units in them and It's also similar to Fire Emblem with a form of the weapon triangle. Also included is a My Kingdom mode that is closely tied to the whole theme of the game with building a brand new kingdom from the ground up in a sort of game similar to something like the recent Final Fantasy XV mobile game. These all form the identity that is Ni No Kuni 2 and whilst they all fit into the game quite nicely it's hard to not miss the monster system from the previous entry to fully feel like this game is a real full blown improvement. We do get multiple weapons and armors for each character, but the challenge wasn't there to make me care, at least when going down the main story anyway. For the more experienced, who really want a challenge look at the new Tainted Monsters. If you have played things like the Xenoblade games these are the unique monsters that are super tough and are much stronger and smarter than your average monster. Story-wise I feel the pacing could have been more fleshed out with some longer dungeons as it feels the whole time the game is giving you much more story than gameplay. One thing that bothered me the most is that there is this new feature where the characters talk while the game is going on kind of similar to the skit idea in the Tales Of series. The problem with these is that unlike Tales Of they are not voiced and appear just as quickly as they disappear which is a very strange design decision as I always felt like I was missing out because I wasn't living up to their unrealistic required speed to reading them, let alone while I'm playing. Of course, there are TONS of side quests that for the most part, all fit into the whole My Kingdom mode and RTS skirmishes that exceed the game's value. Take this game at your own pace and you are definitely sure to enjoy the charming world of Ni No Kuni 2.

This is a very fun, light game that is good for relaxation. It's a nice game to play in between high energy games or after a stressful day. It's not very addicting, but it's definitely fun to play once in a while. The story is interesting, and it remains very simple throughout the game (which I found refreshing) Because there is so much to do in the game, you can spend a bunch of time playing and not advance the story at all. The story, music, world design, and characters are all reminiscent of a Studio Ghibli movie (such as, Spirited Away, Princess Mononoke). The music especially is fantastic. The game is very easy, especially if you become over leveled, however most of the side content is decently challenging. The combat is actually really fun, and works well. There are a lot of side activities, in addition to the main quest. The most interesting part of the game for me is the kingdom building. The side quests tie into the kingdom building because all of they can lead to you gaining new citizens. Everything in the kingdom is upgradeable and gives you some advantage in game. I really enjoyed the game, and I recommend it if you want to play something that will brighten your day.

Good Game, Missing Heart of the First

The game is very well done and the new systems are fun, but I find this story to be missing the heart and feeling of the first game. There is just something that is missing. Without the creature capturing and evolving being an integral part of the new game it also ends up having a decided lack of monster variety in comparison to the first one. The biggest let down in this is the bonuses that came with the premium version of the game, which pale vastly compared to the premium version of the first game. The first game gave you a fantastically done physical copy of the Wizards Companion that was in full color and matched exactly what was in the game. It was absolutely phenomenal. Where as this one dumped the top quality bonuses and went with super generic JRPG premium junk, for a super premium price.

Lots to Do in This Game

The game as whole, is okay. The game starts out wonderfully great, then suddenly feels as if it was rushed out the door. Understandable compared to the announcement and the release date. The is a lot to do in this game, and it is very similar in feel to Suikoden. The story needs more work put in to it, as it is also part of what feels rushed. You will find yourself spending most of your time building your kingdom - running out doing a ton of fetch quests. Not much else besides that. A buy for fans of the franchise, and RPG lovers alike.

This game is super fun and has great visual style. It's a little on the easy side, but there are options to increase the difficulty. I'm having a great time with it and its lighthearted story. The kingdom management system is a fun diversion and I enjoy adding new citizens to my kingdom. One complaint I have is that the fully-voiced cutscenes are too few and far between. The VO is great, but too often I'm reading text that seems like it should have been voiced.

Ni No Kuni II is a worthy upgrade from the original, but not all the changes are for the better. The graphics completely fall apart once the player reaches the world map. The battle system also received a downgrade from the original. The fighting is closer to the Tales series, but clunky and underwhelming. The kingdom creator is amazing, and what ultimately drives you to push forward. While not on the level of many city-simulation games, it’s still fun and rewarding system.

I have greatly enjoyed playing this game however.... In the first one, my favorite thing was the Pokemon style catching and leveling up of minions throughout my adventure. Always finding one that was stronger than a previous one.. it added to the adventure. They added a somewhat replacement, but I don't feel it does it justice. Still the game and campaign is really good. Recommended.

I am going to compare this game to the first one. The combat is much improved. The first one I got bored about 25 hours in because the combat was so stale at that point. The more action styled combat of this one is much more pleasing. However, the story and characters are less engaging than the first. The first one was "dripping" with that Ghibli charm.

The game is very well done and fun to play. Beautiful artwork and music. An easy game to get lost in but still has depth. It takes a departure from the first game in the battle system and to be honest I am unsure if that is a good or bad thing. As a stand alone game I recommend it, as a sequel I am undecided.

I really loved the first Ni No Kuni. This one is good so far, but I’m still on the fence. I feel like it’s trying to do too many things and I’m forced to micromanage too much stuff. It’s fine so far. The graphics are stunning, especially on PS4 Pro in 4K HDR.

Good, not great for reasons not listed. Targeting a younger audience than I isn't necessary a bad thing, but wish I would have lowered my expectations slightly, especially after hearing grand things about the first one that I missed.

I was waiting with anticipation for this. The world is just as detailed and beautiful as Ni No Kuni. Combat is much better, although a bit too easy. Graphics are impressive and really bring the game to life.

Has amazing and magical graphics/world building mixed with a lot of character and heart. A fun combat system and adorable characters, if you are a fun of the first game or Studio Ghibli than this game is for you.

I loved the first game and absence of Studio Ghibli's involvement for the sequel is a disappointment. Still, its a decent game, with improved combat, great visuals and some good gameplay additions.

It’s not as good as the first one but it definitely retains the charm. If you like city building/management you’ll probably like this. I got it to play in such a rich beautiful artsy anime world.

I had high expectations for this games after I watched trailers. But the lack of animated cutscenes and sub-par storyline made me give it 4 stars.

The art is beautiful yet childish and the lightheartedness of the characters masks the darker parts of the story. Combat has improved a lot since the first game.
