Customers are saying

Customers are satisfied with Nier: Automata's excellent gameplay, compelling story, and memorable music. Many also praised the game's action sequences and high replay value, though some found the difficulty and map design challenging. A few players noted issues with the camera and lack of an auto-save feature. Overall, the positive feedback on core gameplay elements outweighs the concerns regarding specific aspects of the game's design.

Nier: Automata is a unique game

I call Nier: Automata "unique" not because it's just a fun gorgeous action RPG , but because Nier at it's multi-layered core is a chameleon of game mechanics. If Ghost in a Shell, Devil May Cry, Final Fantasy and Robotech had a baby it would be Nier Automata. I will say this game isn't for everyone. If you are not a fan of games like Bayonetta, Devil May Cry or Metal Gear: Rising you probably wont enjoy Nier as much as I do. However, if you did enjoy the games I previously mentioned and you also like anime style hack and slash games with an intriguing (yet slightly weird) narrative, you should pick-up Nier as soon as you can. B-2 will not disappoint.

This game is definitely not perfect, but it's bright spots outshine every issue I've had with the game. The combat is fun and fluid. The gameplay loop is really addictive, and it's chip system is a clever and fun way to change gameplay. But the main thing that pulled me in was the story. This is a game about humanity, but there's not a single human in the game. One of the most slickly told stories I've seen, and it couldn't be told in any other medium. Highly recommended for any action RPG fans!

Gameplay is what you'd expect from a Platinum game, but I had trouble finding the right difficulty. Normal was too easy, but in hard I was dying in 2 hits. Combat is simple but fun. I enjoyed customizing my chip sets (passive skills and abilities) for different playstyles and situations. The story is a wild ride set in a melancholy world. I grew attached to the characters right out of the gate. The open world isn't too large, and side quests are generally fun to complete--nothing feels like a chore. Absolutely beautiful soundtrack. I could listen to it for hours.

The most incredible story in years.

The graphics need a little boost, the world isn't the prettiest, but the combat is excellent, the music is superb, and the story is incredible. For fans of the first NieR you owe it to yourself to play this. For those on the fence the best praise I can give it is that I wish I could forget having ever played it just to experience it all brand new again. It's a difficult game to explain without spoilers but my best advice is this: just because you got an ending doesn't mean you're done. Keep playing, the game even encourages you. Though they're called "Endings", Endings A, B, C, and D are more like chapters in a story or Acts in a play than literal endings. The story continues and doesn't end until Ending E. And don't let people fool you, you're not replaying the same game, although Endings A and B are similar, C, D, and E is 100% brand new and different. A and B are two sides of the same story and then continues onward. Enough about the game, go play it!

Let me start by saying that I love this game. Pros -Amazing soundtrack. Probably the greatest of the year or even the generation. -Fluid combat. Reminiscent of old-school PS2 days with the likes of Devil May Cry and God of War. -One of the best stories in games out there today. It's been about a week since I finished it and I still think about the story of the game and the themes it presents. Cons -Archaic open-world. Early PS3/X360 style open world. Especially in the context of games like Horizon Zero Dawn and The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild coming out recently. -Some repetitive side quests. But there aren't that many and they usually have a really good story to back them up. I think this is one of the best games to come out this year so far and it would be a shame if you didn't buy it.

A fun, dark sci-fi romp for RPG and action fans

This is a game that has interested me for a while now, so I was glad to finally get a chance to pick this up for a much lower price on Black Friday. And I'm certainly glad I did, as this is a definitely one of the most interesting that I've played in some time. Don't let the Square-Enix logo fool you; the folks at Platinum Games are the real people you should be thanking, as their trademark style shines through. For those who don't know, this is the developer studio behind the Bayonetta series and Vanquish, and is made up of people who worked on the Devil May Cry games, so you can typically expect some impressive action from them. And they certainly do here, as despite being an RPG, the game plays as a fast-paced hack-and-slash, combined with elements of top-down shooters (think Galaga or Touhou), so combat is never boring. There's also a variety of weapons that you can play around with and decide what fits your fancy. In terms of difficulty, this will mostly depend on what you decide to set it to (I personally prefer just to coast on Easy), but based on what others have said, those looking for a challenge should be satisfied. Story-wise, the game dips into some occasionally deep material, and isn't afraid to go rather dark, as the M-rating should imply. There's a lot of the "can machines be human?" themes that you'll see in a lot of sci-fi pieces, though the game has its own quirky and sometimes disturbing twists on the ideas. I can't really say too much without spoiling, but prepare to leave expectations at the door. The graphics of the game are pretty good, though there are some slight framerate issues. It's nothing too major, at least, and you'll be passing through a lot of nice scenery as you progress through the game, serenaded by some excellent music tracks that range from soothing to haunting to just plain epic. So yeah, in short, it's a pretty good time. I recommend it to anyone with a taste for RPGs and action games; if you like Final Fantasy, Kingdom Hearts, Devil May Cry, or Bayonetta, you'll probably dig this game. For anyone on the fence, there is a demo in the Playstation Store that gives you the entire opening mission to run through; you'll know after finishing that if you want to dive into the full product.

    GOTY 2017

This is absolutely the best game I have played in 2017, and that’s saying a lot with so many amazing games coming out this year. The visuals are amazing, the story is fantastic, spanning across multiple play throughs, ultimately culminating in the question of what it means to be human. The musical score is probably the best soundtrack to a game I have ever played, with dynamic versions of all the songs that fade in and out in layers. Absolutely beautiful. It’s not a perfect game by any means, there are some technical issues with the game, but the overall package by far makes up for those shortcomings.

    Deceptively Thought-Provoking Anime Experience

Personally, I've always hated the convoluted plots of anime style games. However, Automata's fun and fast paced combat really makes up for any grievances I have with the story, and as it turns out, the story isn't actually bad. In fact, it takes a surprisingly deep and philosophical turn in the latter chapters. Personally, I think the story is massively overrated, but is unusually thought-provoking for an anime title. I can appreciate how many see this as a game of the year contender, but it definitely isn't my GOTY pick. Nothing beats the music in this game though, and for the first time with a JRPG, I actually preferred the English cast to the Japanese cast. They did a superb job with the voice acting on this one. All in all, I'd recommend everyone give this a try, even if you are not an anime fan.

I've been waiting to purchase this game for some time now. I watched a online reviews and videos of the game play, and I kinda read up just to see what this game was all about. I gotta tell you, Nier looks amazing!!! The music, graphics and controls are top notch. Nier has like a cool futuristic anime feel to it, but without being corny. I would highly recommend Nier to anyone that enjoyed Devil May Cry, Nioh, or any other Ninja Gaiden type of games. I love it so far!!

I did not expect this game to measure to much. I read the reviews, which suggested it had promise, but the rather blatant fan servicey characters left me hesitant. Glad I was wrong to judge it by its cover, though. The music is fantastic, the action quick and epic, with a great diversity of ability to be found inside. I wholeheartedly recommend this to anyone who loves RPG games with hack-and-slash mechanics.

If you enjoy Platinum's style of hack and slash you will be pleased with this game. The game switches from this style in third person to sidescroller, top down, to old school twin stick shooter. I wish the combat in Nier was as in depth as Bayonetta's but it still is great. I'm getting burnt out with this open world fad in recent games but Nier's map is small enough to not feel barren and is filled with things to do. The best part of the game is it's story about androids finding their purpose in this world and the whole theme of existentialism. I love the apocalyptic far future setting plus the music matches the whole game perfectly. A truly memorable game.

The music in this game is like the first thing you notice very epic. Combat is easy to pick up and you'll be doing combos before you know it. I wish the map was better on where to go. Sometimes I got confused on how to progress in the game cause there is a lot of side quest so the game is packed with adventure. Last thing the world is very unique, it keeps you wanting to explore it more... have fun!

If like action rpgs like like kingdom hearts and the witcher 3 you will love this but there is a learning curve but one you get the hang of it its adicicting lot of combos lots of wepons and to upgrade big open world and an amaizing story thats really out there and goes against the norm plot twists left and right story telling an abostute masterpice and a goty contender. Plus lots of replay value you will have to beat the game 4 times to see everything the story has to offer but the gameplay and story is so good you will want to anyway.
