Good system

Video quality is good, night vision is good. It was a straight forward install. I did not use the included mounting screws as they are very small and short in length. DVR interface ok but think it could be a little more user friendly and would help if a manual was included explaining the different settings. The system will have to be connected to a monitor to setup and make setting changes, cannot be done from mobile app. Mobile app is only short coming I have found so far. Tried accessing several times and would not connect to live view. I haven't found a way yet to expand the live view on the mobile app with these cameras, not actually zooming the camera but expanding the view on your phone or tablet as you would a picture. I will be ordering two more cameras to expand my system today. All in all seems like a good system, cannot speak on durability or longevity as only been installed about a week. Time will tell.

Good system for the price
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.In my opinion, the ability of the Night Owl Surveillance systems to send an EARLY alert via email with attachments (DVR snap shots) represents one of the most beneficial features, especially in cases when the digital video recorder is stolen or destroyed by an intruder. The full size DVR's snaps (up to 220 KB for the AHD7 models) are very useful evidences for further investigations. It was one of the main reasons why I bought the AHD7 system. Unfortunately, new system disappointed me: 1. I prefer to connect DVRs directly to a modem without a router, because as the number of components connected in system increases, the system's reliability decreases. Nevertheless AHD7 did not work stable with my modem in comparison with the old models of Night Owl DVRs. The customer service was unable to resolve a firmware glitch. They told me - a router is required! But once again, I prefer SETUPs without routers. Hope Night Owl SP will ask manufacturer of AHD7 to resolve this problem. 2. In addition, night vision of new cameras is very limited - less than 50 feet, but definitely not up 100 feet as advertised. See attached photo. Just in case, I tested cameras in the rural area - open space without any ambient light and without reflective surfaces like asphalt in a city. Great security system

I just watched the videos on the night owl web site and the setup wizard works great. Just scanned my iPhone during wizard setup and the HD nightowl app works great. Don't understand the bad reviews of app. I only rated 4 because of the mounting screws heads broke off when installing. Used 11/4 construction screws and it mounted great. Used a hand screwdriver to install. Did not use drill.

These cameras and the DVR have awesome resolution. 1 of the cameras is above the front door of the house and you can see not only the yard, but the intersection across the street as well. The night vision (up to 100') is great. Installation was fairly easy. The cameras say up to -14 degrees Fahrenheit, will have to see once the real cold weather comes! The mobile app was also easy to set up, although it does kill my battery like others have said. Not sure about the recordings yet, as I have only used instant playback. All in all, this was a great buy! Very satisfied.

While the distance you receive with Night Vision often depends upon the installation location of the camera, how much ambient light is available and whether the camera is fixed upon something, the image should not be so grainy. Amazing App and quality

All I have to say is WOW.. It was like going from a Blackberry to an iPhone :) Anyway, since I already had 4 cameras installed I was actually able to use them with this system. The cameras that come with the system are much better than what I have but it was sort of cool that I could use both. The mobile App works extremely well and has a ton of functions. This is a wired system and took some time to setup but now I have 24/7 recording day and night. Overall great system now I want to replace my older cameras with these new ones. Anyone know where I can purchase the add on cameras.

Great 720p cameras

Live viewing does eat you phones battery up. Purchased 2 more camera's for a total of 6. Really happy 2 weeks in...time will be the real judge....recommended !

My husband, after reading many review, decided to go for this one. So far we have not been disappointed. The quality of the video is great, very clear. Overall my husband said they were easy to install, his only complaint was the screws they came with. He said they were a joke and decided to use better quality screws. The quality at night has been great as well and have found it very easy to look on our phones to view the footage.

Night Owl AHD7
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I buy this system for my new store, but due to construction delays, I was unable to install the camera for about a month. The product didn't come with a manual - I had to download it, which is no big deal. When I went through the process of mounting all the cameras, hooking it up to the TV, turned it on and got it to work. I ran the Ethernet cable to my computer and that's where the problems kicked in. Instructions tell me to go to the dot prompt and do an IPconfig to find the IPv4 IP address and change it so last 3 numbers read 150 (instead of 157) and I couldn't do it. I accessed the Systems menu, control panel, and found the IPv4 IP Address and entered it there, but it didn't work. When I noticed that I was in over my head with the program and figuring out the internet ports and what not, I decided to call for help... My manual comes with two phone numbers; 1) the pre-sales customer support number and 2) professional installation. I have problem with #1 since, I don't need help buying it - I need help installing it. I started thinking about this and it left me scratching my head. For real, how many people are going to buy a something and then phone pre-sales customer support so they can find out where to buy another one? The biggest problem I have is with number 2. Why should I have to pay someone money to install a security system? I mean, I already installed the camera, TV, and ran all the wiring. All I need help with was the computer and internet connectivity. I should be provided customer service that would assist me in the last part of the installation. I tried to phone the Geek squad too and I was told they cannot help customers with security systems in the state of Texas because of some law that was passed. I am giving it a star since it does work and I am able to record, I just can't download or remote view with my cell phone (like I wanted). The total lack of customer support makes this impossible to recommend. I'd say, if you have a firm grip on internet connectivity, this could be a good product for you. Otherwise, buyer beware...

Great system for the price

My worries were put to rest quickly. Set up took less than a half hour and all the cameras worked perfectly. The video resolution is very clear and the color is great. I particularly like the automatic switch to night vision in dim light conditions. If I can set this system up, anybody can! Great bang for the buck.

Satisified turned to extreme disapointment
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Part of the fun in a purchase for me is researching the products I wish to buy and a big part of research is reviews. When I researched this product the majority of the reviews were very good out of the box. I also reviewed the reviews on the APP for IOS Night Owl HD they were less than stellar but anyone that has used apps knows that they are usually updated to fix bugs so I didn't let the reviews scare me counting on updates. After using for three months I can honestly say the reviews for IOS are spot on if push notifications are Important for you and you run IOS they are not at all reliable even after multiple calls to support still don't function was told they are working on updates however if that was the only problem I would just have myself to blame for looking over these reviews as an informed customer. I agree with the reviews out of the box the cameras are very clear the night vision also provides clarity. There were some issues with initial setup of network a call to tech support some time on the phone the tech logging on to my computer and I was up and running. In researching the system I did read some reviews for users that had their systems installed for a couple months and the problems started. These reviews are what I really should have paid attention to and what I hope future consumers will read those to be better educated as to what might happen. After three months I have had two cameras stop working and apparently an issue with the DVR channels 2 and 3 no longer are able to receive image. Yes the system has a 1 year warranty but that's where the disappointment starts. I called customer service explained the problem and the troubleshooting begins, Tech logged on to my computer checks settings and determines I have a camera/cable problem. They gave me a ticket number and instructed me that I had to remove the cameras from the house and plug each camera into different cables and different places on DVR then call back. I took the cameras down troubleshot the system as per instructed and called back. Upon calling back went through all the trouble shooting again and included my results from testing as per instructions. Gave me another ticket number and determined I had 2 bad cameras and 2 bad cables. Then had me submit an RMA because they don't do that and told me I will have to send everything in before I can get anything repaired or replaces so why spend two hours on phone. Said I would hear back in 24 hours been 8 days now. Yes this system has a 1 year warranty but absolutely seems like they are just hoping ill give up and eat the $425.00 I have in the system and I really doubt that they do contact me back. To summarize yes the system is good out of the box no the app don't work and believe the reviews the problems do start and its next to impossible to get them to fix them. I not a rude consumer just wished someone would have written a review to help me

great out the box, not so much after a month

I was hoping the cameras did not go bad on me and it did. It happened exactly how all the other reviews said. It was crystal clear out the box and not even a month, each one cameras started turning fuzzy ( as mentioned from other reviews) and the night vision lights kept flashing. Two of my cameras are dead. The whole system goes down and I cannot view my cameras at all, even after unplugging and reseting them system. I comes on when it wants to. I'm am returningit and I am sad. I really loved it at first, but it really let me down. I even started recommending these cameras to family, but I had to tell them that it was not a good purchase after all.

Good Product for the Price
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I reviewed quite a few systems on different sites for several weeks before deciding on the Night Owl. I installed the cameras myself. As soon as I plugged in the cameras, they came right up on the NVR, and I was quickly able to access from my smart phone and computer to view the live feeds. I set the port forwarding on my router in order to access from outside of my network and it works great. The app connects immediately to the system from anywhere, and there is no lag. The image quality is pretty good, but not quite as sharp as some of the images 1080p systems.

To set up and use on tv with mouse they only give you a two foot wire should be at least 6 or 8 feet unless you want to sit right in front of TV
