I purchased the Nikon 40mm f/4 to try out the Nikon ZF, and the lens impressed me more than the camera body. I have no complain about sharpness, or the corners. If it was weather sealed, I’d be an easy recommendation for professional work. I shoot mostly in low light scenarios and at f/2, it was amazing. I’d recommend this to anyone looking for an inexpensive, small, capable lens to start a Nikon photo journey.

Must have for any Z body owner. This is the best travel lens you will ever buy for the Nikon Z system. It's not the sharpest up close at F2 for something like a tight head shot, but it has beautiful character in those scenarios and very vintage rendering. I used to use a 50 1.8G that wasn't sharp unless I stopped it down to 2.8. This 40 is sharper at F2 than my old 50 at 2.8 ever was. Wonderful for most uses especially low light.

This lens is a must-have for the Z5 or really any of the full frame Z series Nikon camera bodies. It’s small, light, and the clarity and bokeh is….wow. And the colors. Spot on…

I’m still a novice to photography, but with wanting to start portraits, I needed a prime lens. This is the most economical for the Z50 that’s close to the 50mm I initially planned to look for. I’m really pleased with the gorgeous photos this lens has allowed me to capture. Great investment!

What a fabulous lens. Great for a light setup. I'm using it on a Z6II and the focal distance is very fun to use. It takes the place of both the 35mm and 50mm. Also, having the f2.0 aperture is important for low light situations and portraits. I pair it with the Nikkor Z 24-200 while traveling.

It took me a bit to buy it, because it is all plastic and doubt it was good, but I gave it a chance, and use it most of the time I am out with my kids or traveling for work.

This lens holds its own agains lenses that are 2-3x the cost. The lens is very sharp and has its own unique flair. I say unique flair because the bokeh isn’t as crips and clean as those high end lenses, but it has its own great look

This lens is a great substitute if you can’t purchase the 50 mm prime Z lens. It performs similarly, but much quieter than the F mount 50 1.8, and it will work great for creating great shots you expect from a prime lens.

For those of us who have moved into mirrorless arena…Nikon Z fc for me…this is a fast, excellent kit lens. My primary lens is a 18-140 mm Nikkor Z; however, this lens really complements the zoom. The attached photos were taken at sunset with the 40 mm lens earlier this week in the Arkansas Ozark mountains.

Even though this isn’t a 50mm it’s actually probably more useful. Even though it’s not 1.8 aperture it’s got great bokeh. The price, amazing for its versatility.

The Nikon Z 40mm f/2 prime lens has quickly become a favorite in my photography arsenal. This compact and versatile lens perfectly complements my Nikon Z6II, providing exceptional performance in a wide range of shooting situations. One of the standout features of the Nikon Z 40mm f/2 lens is its superb image quality. The lens produces incredibly sharp and detailed photos, with excellent color rendition and contrast. Whether I’m capturing landscapes, portraits, or everyday moments, the images are consistently stunning and vibrant. The f/2 aperture is another major advantage of this lens. It allows for beautiful background blur and impressive low-light performance. Shooting in dimly lit environments is no longer a challenge, and the creamy bokeh adds a professional touch to my portraits and close-up shots. In terms of build quality, the Nikon Z 40mm f/2 is top-notch. Despite its compact size, the lens feels solid and durable. It’s lightweight and easy to carry, making it an ideal choice for both everyday use and travel photography. The sleek design and smooth focus ring further enhance the shooting experience. Autofocus performance is fast and reliable, ensuring that I can quickly and accurately capture my subjects. The lens operates quietly, which is a significant benefit when shooting videos or capturing candid moments without drawing attention. The 40mm focal length is incredibly versatile, offering a slightly wider view than the traditional 50mm, making it perfect for a variety of photography styles. It strikes a great balance, being wide enough for landscapes and street photography, while still providing a natural perspective for portraits. In conclusion, the Nikon Z 40mm f/2 prime lens is a fantastic addition to any photographer’s kit. Its outstanding image quality, versatile focal length, excellent low-light performance, and robust build make it a must-have lens for Nikon Z series users. Whether you’re a professional or an enthusiast, this lens will undoubtedly elevate your photography.

After reading and watching reviews online, I decided to pull the plug and get this compact lens. Wow, so amazing. I did not think it would be this great. This lens would blow any of the old G lenses out of the water in the image quality department. Bokeh has character and except for being a little noisy, it can be used for about anything. Good enough for environmental portraits and personal/family documenting. Only downside is the plastic mount and construction, I don't know if I want to be removing and re-mounting this lens too much, the mount seems to get frayed with use.

Recently upgraded to a Nikon z5 full frame and was simple lookikg for a cost effective option without any compromise on quality. This lens is small, lightweight but it however maintains a level of sharpness throughout the different aperture levels. The focal length at 40mm is not too wide and can be used in different instances, portraits and group photos namely. Ive used it for events since recently at im happy with the quality produced.
