The Nintendo 3DS XL (in black) is a new favorite in our house. My oldest daughter received it for Christmas and hasn't put it down since! She has commented on how easy it is to use/connect to her friends and the extra large screen. Our family's love affair with Nintendo products began when I was in the third grade and got a NES for my birthday!! BEST present of my childhood and my children's childhood since over 25 years later it STILL works...and they now play it. We have many systems from years of loyalty to Nintendo but this newest "gameboy" is awesome and my teenager loves that she can sync and play with her friends! Being social is a nice feature ours didn't have back in the day when they weren't even in color yet :) Would I recommend this product....YES Nintendo 3DS XL is worth the investment and hours of happy childhood memories

I haven't had a DS since the original clunky original, but when i saw Luigi's Mansion and heard Legend of Zelda was coming out, i had to have this. The XL is the version to get. I wanna be able to enjoy the graphics while not having stare and squint for dear life. Ppl try to compare this with the vista, but they're apples and oranges. I chose the Nintendo 3DS XL because i know the type of exclusive games Nintendo dishes out. Mario, Zelda, Pokemon, Donkey Kong, Kid Icarus, Starfox, etc. They have demos, videos, apps, and really funny content via cartoon hangover and others. I love the 3D even tho i go crosseyed sometimes, but more importantly I love the games. Look for me online @SoulPapo

I was deciding between this and the pa vita. I read and watch many reviews and it always comes down to what do you want to play. The type of games Nintendo brings out are games your going to play over and over. Games are fun and kiddie and at times a bit more serious. Great variety but I do like to see some other games to come out for it, Love the system, bright screen and loud when your background noise is silent. Lol. It really needs to upgrade the speakers. It's horrible.

Screen is big, bold, and beautiful

The screen size is advertised as being 90% larger than the non-XL version. This product delivers as advertised. The screen is big and beautiful. Colors are very vivid and the handheld is a joy to use. In my opinion this screen size should be the standard one in all DS models. Although the negative to this is that you will have trouble stuffing this handheld device into your pocket! This is my first 3DS since I waited on the 3DS XL before making the jump to 3D. I enjoy the 3D effect, and the unit has a slider that varies the intensity of the 3D or to turn it off entirely. With that being said, battery life is reduced if you use 3D. Also, its important to note that the 3D will only work with 3DS games. Older DS games will not appear in 3D. The unit is a clamshell like the other DS handhelds. The 3DS XL feels sturdy and has a noticable click when you open it and hit the two available positions for use. The 3DS XL has three cameras; two on the front for taking 3D pictures, and one on the inside that faces the user. The quality of the photos are comparable to old cell phone cameras, and while its tolerable, you would think that in this day and age of hyper megapixel cell phone cameras, Nintendo would have opted for newer technology in their cameras. Perhaps its a cost-reducing measure. I was a little disappointed that the 3DS XL only comes with one circle pad. This is because the original 3DS has an available peripheral to add a second circle pad. I would have thought Nintendo would make two circle pads standard on the newer 3DS XL. I'm sure they will one day release a new 3DS XL peripheral to add a second circle pad. The circle pad is located on the top left above the d-pad. It feels good and allows more control over using the direction pad. In some games the circle pad and d-pad share the same functions, but in others they control different functions. My other gripe is that there is no backwards compatibility with older GBA (GameBoy Advance) games. The DS and DS Lite had a slot so that you could play your older GBA titles. The 3DS XL does not have this slot. However, if there was an older game you wanted to play, there are many available for download on the Nintendo eStore. You store these as well as pictures, videos, and other media on the 4GB SD card that comes with the unit. Sound from the unit is tolerable, but not great. Plugging in ear buds or headphones alleviates this though. Overall, if you were thinking of getting a handheld gaming device, wanted to upgrade to 3D capable handheld, or have trouble seeing the small standard screen of the DS or 3DS, I would definitely recommend the 3DS XL. The larger screen size must be seen to truly appreciate. If you have adult hands, you will be glad as there's more console to hold onto and you won't get hand cramps from prolonged use.

Let me start by saying I have always been a fan of nintendo. Especially with them having a vast library of kid friendly games. My daughter used to have the old DS, needless to say it was time for an upgrade so I purchased this one for Christmas. I paid $149 which was a great deal. The graphics are improved (make sure you get the 3DS version of the games). It is the perfect size screen. She is able to play her favorite games, stream movies from Netflix and Hulu. This little device keeps her busy on long road trips. As an add on I purchased the NES Remix of the old RETRO games like Donkey Kong and the original Mario Brothers. (yeah I got it for me, my daughters thinks they are old fashioned games) LOL.... She tends to play Tomagaci Life, Super Mario Brothers 3, a slew of Barbie games. All in all this is a great buy for anyone with young children. Heck its a great buy for you older folks like myself who may want to take a trip through time and relive some childhood memories playing the old Zelda and retro games. Buy this system. You won't regret it. Its good clean family fun.

The 3DSXL is another solid offering from Nintendo into the handheld market. The larger screen and increased battery life improves upon the original 3DS. The 3D itself is a great addition to many games and really can bring them to life. For me personally, upgrading from the original DS, this system is a treat. All the features (e.g., spot/streetpass, depth slider, gyro sensor, camera, and other native apps like the eshop) make it a truly immersive experience. Also the ever expanding library of titles for the system make it worth the investment.

If you have held off getting a 3DS like me, this is the device that will change your mind. I had a DS lite for years and loved it, but it my hands would become cramped while playing. This device is the right size. Games look great, 3D is neat, updates to system are nice. 3 cameras rocks. Only drawback is no gameboy advance or color compatabilty. With a device this big they could have easily added that. Come on, Nintendo, I would pay another $50 easily not to have to need 3 systems to play all my games going back to original Gameboy. Other than that, this is the best handheld I have ever owned.

I was not impressed with the regular 3DS when it came out years ago. I had a DS Lite for many years and thought it was great. When the XL came out, I tried it in the store. I was very inpressed how much better the 3D effect worked with a larger screen. I also think the build quality is better on XL compared to friends that have the regular 3DS. It holds a great charge, especially when playing old DS games and keeping the wireless function off. The fact it's backwards compatible is great, too. Being someone who loves a high res screen and is very nitpicky about seeing jagged edges, I was worried about the same low res games being played on a 90% larger screen. Trust me, it's not noticable once you start playing. I have Luigi's Mansion and downloaded Super Mario 3D Land for free with a Club Nintendo promotion. The games look great and are a lot of fun. I haven't used any of the AR cards or any real features with the cameras. I just enjoy playing real games. My one small complaint is the sound level of the built in speakers. They sound fine but don't seem loud. Nothing headphones can't fix if you're a big or noisy room, bus, erc...Not a big deal. The 3DS game line up for 2013 is looking very bright, too. I'm very happy with my purchase.

I have the original 3DS already but after upgrading to a larger screened phone recently and the impact it made, I decided to grab the 3DSXL to see if the larger screen made a difference, especially with the 3D effect. I wasn't disappointed, the larger screen is better, the games are fun, nothing too deep, but I'm from that old generation that played Mario on the coin operated machines, so I would have to say I'm a bit nostalgic in my choice of here as well, are there better handheld machines out there, Yeah, are they are as easy to use? As fun? that depends on your definition of fun. In my opinion you can't go wrong with the 3DS and the larger screen does make enough of a difference to prevent buyers remorse.

We bought my 9 year old son an iPod instead of upgrading his DS Lite to the 3DS, but still found that he loved playing his DS. The 3DS XL has a larger screen, a camera, and the capability to play games using 3D. He still can play the games he loved on his DS Lite and has loved the 3D Madden Football game we just bought him. We just can't give up the Nintendo altogether!

Purchased two for my boys last Christmas. Liked them so much, I got one for myself. I’ve purchased, Gameboys, and DS for the boys for Christmas in the past, I’ve also purchased a DSi, DSi 3D and DSi XL. The boys really like the DSi3D, I had problems due to my poor vision. Love the bigger screen on the DSiXL, but no 3D. The 3DS XL brought it all together into one. I now enjoy playing many of the 3D games with the boys, has a nice long battery life, great for traveling. The 3d camera, and networking capabilities are greatly improved over previous generations as well. Although a little large for small hands, I would still recommend it for all ages. It does come with a wrist lanyard, I would recommend for younger children.

I finally bought a 3DS and I could not be happier. This is a very sturdy product, have not had an issue at all with battery life, took this as a companion on a recent road trip to keep me entertained and the battery lasted very long considering I traveled to different states. Great selection of games, wonderful graphics, easy to set up, and love the size of it.

3DS XL is the markedly superior version to Nintendo's own 3DS system. The large screen generously shows off the non glasses 3D effect and gives ample viewing space to the games. The construction and build are solid, in spite of some concern of the "snap" hinges that, upon first use, I was unsure of whether or not I was doing any harm to the system. Outside of that concern, it feels sturdy, appropriately weighty, and has reasonably long battery life. What is most exciting about the 3DSXL is the games it supports. Nintendo has thrown considerable developmental weight into the system, which is reason enough to purchase one. Any halfway through 2013, some of gaming's most exciting releases are slated for the 3DS. What is least exciting is Nintendo's insistence on archaic friend codes, which limit the community building features, and the somewhat cumbersome eshop for games downloads. In addition, if power is the name of the game, the Vita system by Sony has this one clearly beat. And yet, as Nintendo has shown, power is only as good as the developer accessing it, and at this time it would be hard to argue the Vita software library over the 3DS's. The 3DSXL is an especially fun way to enjoy games on the go and is a worthy purchase for anyone who loves games, no matter the age of the user.

Bigger is definitely better with the 3DS XL. You get both more battery life, and a bigger screen... graphics are a little stretched out though. Feels better in the hand for extended play periods. It no longer fits comfortably in a pocket like the 3DS but it is still portable. The matte black finish is about as slick as any Nintendo device has ever looked.

My 7 year old has never really been a big video gamer, but a friend of his had a DS and he asked for one. He learned very quickly how to play it and loves it so much we had to set time limits on it. The graphics on 3DS games are very clear on this. The older games play on it, but are a little grainy. The size is perfect for him and it isn't so fragile that scared he will break it. We have not had any trouble finding accessories for it. Overall, I'm glad we bought this one for him.

I purchased this item for my nine year old grandson as a Xmas present. He has many other gaming systems so I was hesitant to get this one. I am so happy I did! He has not put it down yet, and its been over a month. The graphics are outstanding...its a whole new experience from the typical two dimensional games. The camera also takes 3d pictures! Another great feature is the built-in wifi which allows him to connect and play with his friends. Definitely a great purchase.
