Outstanding!
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.First time ever purchasing an electric scooter! Decided to go all out and get the one with all the bells and whistles and oh man is it something else let me tell you. From the premium design and build quality you can definitely tell you are getting your moneys worth. I come from a Razor scooter from back in the day and got one of these to play outside with my young padawan and I absolutely love it! The battery lasts so long and the 23mph you unlock via the NIU app makes you know what it must feel like to fly in a sense lol (of course being in a safe environment). Has 2 modes, E-Save (slower experience 8mph top speed) and normal mode which maxes out at 23mph depending on your app settings of course. What made me fall in love with is its relative fast speed at 23mph and the iconic halo headlight NIU keys onto their electric scooters which makes it such a beauty! Give it a shot! Best friendly budget welcome scooter money can buy!

Fantastic value-for-money scooter
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have had this scooter now for several weeks and truely enjoy it. Once you know how to use the different modes, it is very practical. A common comment is that the throttle is very sensitive. You have to be careful in the beginning but once you are aware and get used to it, no problem. A feature which is very handy is the cruise control. Spped limits: For beginners set your speed maximum at 14 mph. 23 mph is FAST if you are not used to it. I take my scooter in the trunk of my car on day trips. After folding, it is easy to fit in a small sedan (Corolla), and not too heavy to lift in and out. Halo headlight and blinkers are great at night.

BEST SCOOTER AT PRICE RANGE
||Posted . Owned for 5 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This scooter is seriously awesome. I'm having so much fun riding it around. It's way more convenient than walking or driving sometimes. Plus, it's pretty zippy and easy to handle. Definitely a great purchase!

Fast but throttle is awful
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. For the most part it is a great scooter, but since they went away from the thumb throttle and now have the half twist throttle you must be careful. The throttle is terribly sensitive for the very first turn. I mean it is like a switch rather than a linear curve. I have to make sure my foot is well planted and really grip the handles and try to gently twist the throttle. A few times it has done a wheelie when I was not ready for it. Just plain dangerious and no signs to fix the problem even thought I have brought to NUI;s attention. I did 3D print a mount for a basket.

Overall Decent
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Great acceleration, good handling and smooth ride. Able to handle all paved roads and small bumps. Would not recommend off road. 24mph, range is half when you dial it up to full speed. Lock mode is cool but glitchy takes a minute to unlock if you are in a hurry.

Really Enjoy the Ride
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I really enjoy this scooter. I take it to the office from time to time. It's fast, moves up hills well and has lights (front, brake/back, and turning signals). The display is easy to read and Bluetooth connection to phone is simple. When you get down to about 10% battery life it does restrict the speed for distance purposes. For someone that is about 250lbs, this will move easily for you including up hills. The throttle is probably the only thing i would change. I ceramic coated my paint on it (pictured).

Decent for the money
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. All around fun. Smooth ride on the roads. Good brakes when you need them. Only pit fall from my rides, when youre going full speed for a little bit, then stop for a short rest, it wont start back up to continuing unless you restart it, or wait a little bit.

Great buy - Very happy
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this 6 months ago and have been very happy with the scooter thus far. The battery life is not as good as advertised, however I am 210 lbs and 6'2" so my weight and wind-resistance will affect that. I am also using it on hills and often max speed & max acceleration, which clearly uses a lot more power and rains the battery quicker. I estimate if I was on a flat road, 15mph, mild acceleration and not fighting the wind I could get about 20+ miles on a single charge. Pros -Simple to use -Has a decent phone app on my iPhone -Front suspension -Wide and long deck -Folds down easily -Bright headlight -Turn signals -Space for a phone mount for Google Maps use -Rear brake and running light -Three riding settings, one of which you can fully customize. -Setting to reduce charging to 80%/90%/100% of a full charge. This prolongs battery life if using <100%. Cons -It is not stable and wobbles a lot if you are single-handed. -The twist throttle has a full range of movement of about 25 degrees. This means it is difficult to use with finesse when riding and can be jerky over bumps or when needing to maneuver at slow speeds. I am used to motorbikes that have twice that movement. -The turn signal are on the same side as the throttle which makes it really awkward to use when riding, especially if you wear gloves. Again, being used to motorbikes the turn signals are always on the left for that reason. -Brakes are spongy and need adjusted after about 200 miles as the cable stretches and settles. -Take around 6 hrs for a full charge from about 15%. Top tips -To customize your ride settings, you can only do it on a single ride setting. By that I mean, there are 3 ride settings, 2 are preset and can't be adjusted. To change between them you press the main button once, you are waiting for the "E-SAVE" text to flash. -Buy some reflective tape and put on the steering column as the rear light is low down and due to the small size of the scooter can easily be missed by drivers. This cost me $6 on Amazon.

i’m zooomin!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.first real experience with electric scooters with this much torque. there’s ton of scooter around my state that I can rent to travel around the city, but having your personal scooter that’s looks cool and faster is a much better experience on my end Design first I love boxes that has pictures of the product and features that it offer right outside and NIU did a great job packaging the KQI 300x seeing it in person the scooter looks beautiful it has great weight to it. tires looks great. comes with a Halo headlight and left and right turn signal. you also get a rear light the scooter as a whole looks slick it’s a perfect combo of black and red trim with some grey. it’s one beautiful looking scooter. Experience KQI 300x has a maximum of 24 miles per hour and was so happy to push this bad boy on it limit. didn’t get to drive for 37 miles like what it’s advertised due to daily schedule but overall was really comfortable riding this scooter. one thing for sure I don’t recommend this for kids the fact that the torque is a bit too much and would easily throw your kid around that could cause an accident. not sure how I feel about the throttle because it’s so easy to be switched on accident and you just end up flying. the app also plays a huge part on getting your full experience riding the KQI 300X, I wish there was a built in phone holder was lacking and I guess i’ll just buy another accessories for it. I love the foldable feature KQI 300x have 608WH battery with 6 hr of charge time. battery life from my experience was great I never had the chance to draine it but i’m glad it wasn’t draining fast. riding around town has been smooth ,breaks and regen breaking works flawlessly. I think NIU did an amazing job with front suspension as well. it absorbs any flaws fine that doesn’t get my hand hurting for holding for too long. App connecting your scooter with NIU app is pretty simple you can even name your scooter if you wanted too. the app will also provide you the map of the location you currently at. inside the app you, you’ll be able to view your ride statistics I love how it keeps up with the data on how much you been riding but i’ve notice it also doesn’t record sometimes, not sure if it’s a delay but maybe future update will fix any issues with the app. on the app you can adjust a great amount of settings for example battery charge limit. regenerative breaking you have option from. off, weak, medium and strong. I kept this one on default or maybe turn it off if someone is not family what it does. you also have auto cruise control that can be turned on but I never bothered since most of the time you’ll have a ever change set of speed due to your location. one wish feature I wish it has is beginner mode that reduces the throttle to the lowest level. my wife was scared since she felt like she might fall off. even checking on setting there’s nothing there to help my case to help my wife ride it. overall I think the app is beautiful you get your battery life percent. you can fully lock the scooter and the only way to unlock is through the app. I do like that feature but maybe create some kind of custom button pressing code on the scooter as another options to unlock for back up. conclusion very satisfied with KQI 300x can’t compare it much beyond my local scooter around town, but this hands down the best scooter I ever owned. some minor complaints which I mentioned above the phone mount was the main let down but until then looks like i’d just have to put my phone in my pocket. charging time was not an issue I thought it was short enough. the scooter has great distance considering you get 37 miles. that’s more than enough doing trails in morning or late afternoon. this one great scooter that you guys should check out. can’t wait for future NIU scooters.

Overall Great, Nice Value, But A Couple "Buts..."
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The NIU KQI 300X (“300X”) is a solid 25–37-mile range scooter choice for short commutes on a bike path or quick travel around a college or business campus. Overall, it’s a nice package but it does have a few downsides in my mind, such as the throttle style and behavior, required app to unlock most features, and awkward cornering, which I why I gave it four stars. I’ll discuss in the sections below. ASSEMBLY AND BUILD QUALITY Assembly is a minor, uncomplicated affair. Just mate two cable ends together and secure the 6 supplied screws to the handlebar and frame. Assembled the scooter has a handsome and rugged stance thanks to chunky 10.5” x 2.5” wheels, front hydraulic suspension, and a 6.5” wide footrest/deck. The frame is aluminum with a toughened plastic deck. It’s quite sturdy but with the battery weight, quite heavy at around 50lb. The handlebars can fold and lock down to the frame to be carried but I would not want to be hauling it up and down stairs. Overall, the build quality is terrific, for a “budget” scooter. I feel like it would take a lot of effort and potholes to destroy it. A simple display lays in the center of the cockpit and presents speed, remaining battery, mode and other minor indicators. On the sunniest days I wish the screen was brighter but it’s still usable. The screen is viewable when wearing polarized sunglasses. On the right handle is a thumb operated turn-signal switch and the left side a mechanical bell. A turn signal light is on each side of the handlebar. I’m unimpressed with these because they are small and easily blocked by the user’s body or clothing. The signal’s activation switch is awkwardly placed, especially if you have short thumbs. And if you are wearing padded gloves, there isn’t much tactile feel to them either. The throttle is a half-bar twist type located on the inside of the right grip. I’ll detail my impression of these later, but I’m not a fan. Front and Rear brake levers are fitted in front of the handlebars, left for rear, right for front. The 300x has other safety features. First and foremost, it’s UL listed, something I find reassuring with such a large battery onboard. Grippy disc brakes are on both wheels. No fear going down a 20% grade hill. The rear brakes are regenerative too. Reflectors are on every angle of the frame, and a dual LED light is on the front; a bright outer “daytime running light” and a brighter inner light for night riding. This is one of the few features than does not require the app to engage unless you want to “permanently” disable the daytime light. An always-on illuminating red light is at the rear and becomes brighter when the brakes are engaged. I wish it blinked too. The 300X has a robust IP55 water resistance rating. The battery compartment especially looks well sealed to me. I have no worries if it starts raining or can’t avoid a shallow puddle. This is not to say the 300X should be intentionally ridden in the rain or through a puddle. It’s solid, but it’s not built for those activities and I’m confident the tires could evacuate water of a hard rain. INITIAL THOUGHTS I classify myself as a novice scooter driver. All my experiences are with rentals – Lime, Bird, etc., so that is my perspective in this review. Compared to those I give the edge to the 300X on road feel but to the rentals on stability and maneuverability, perhaps because they are smaller, or I’m not a big person, or maybe I’m use to smaller scooters. An adjustable height handlebar stem would have been nice here. I’m also more comfortable with the thumb-engaged throttle on rentals compared to the half-twist on the 300x. To me the 300X’s throttle is imprecise and lacks a tactile or intuitive feeling to gauge acceleration. Additionally, the handlebars and throttle are very grippy and a few times I accidentally sped up leaning into a curve because my hand was “stuck” to the throttle. User mistake or inexperience, sure, but regardless, that doesn’t happen with a thumb throttle. Most of the 300X’s settings must be configured via the app (iOS-or-Android) rather than on the 300X itself. Personally, I find this a major drawback from both a convenience and safety perspective, and to some extent privacy too. Broadly I’m wary of products where its apps are the only way to access key settings. I have so many now gimped or “bricked” e-waste products because either the manufacturer stopped supporting the app. You can use the 300X in limited fashion without pairing to app, so I tested the 300X both unpaired and paired to the app to experience both situations. The 300x also has no physical ignition key or card, a disappointment to me, and a downside to it. It can be electronically unlocked via the app, something I’m not a fan of for a few reasons. A couple of examples: 1) electronically lock it, say a park 10 miles from home, and in the interim your phone’s battery dies. Now you have no access to your scooter until you either charge your phone or find a willing donor to let you install the NIU app on their phone for this purpose. 2) There is no “share” option in the app similar to what smart locks and smart garages offer where use limitations for a 3rd party can be made without compromising your account. Without either a physical key to give someone or a “share” option you have to really trust someone you are loaning it too. USE AND RIDE EXPERIENCE I took a few spins with 300x before pairing it to experience the scooter’s “no app” capabilities. It’s quite usable this way, but not at its best. Out-of-the-box the 300X is limited to E-Save mode, around 9 mph. Drive it for about 1/10 mile and standard mode becomes available with about 15 mph top speed. This is the approximate max speed available without pairing to the app. I live in a high traffic, narrow sidewalk, limited bike lane & path, urban area, so going faster isn’t practical for me so I’m fine this speed restriction, but I’m sure others will want to unleash full 24 mph only available via the app. App-free start-up goes like this – tap the power button, push off with a foot to get rolling and twist the throttle to accelerate. Launching in E-Save mode is peppy but gentle. It’s for max battery preservation but it’s also serves as a “training wheels” mode too. Start-up from standard mode is more appreciably more aggressive, mimicking a rocket ship, going 0 to 10 almost instantly. Some may appreciate this immediate acceleration, but it was too much for me. I need a few moments after “launch” to get settled before going all-in. I prefer the calm start up E-Save mode offers. This is where the app is required because, unfortunately, that is the only way to configure a relaxed “chill mode” start-up without limiting top available speed. Acceleration is sprightly uphill. A street in my neighborhood has an approximate 20% grade climbing up +/- 500 ft. – quite steep. The 300x never flinched, going 15 mph the entire time. It has a strong motor and ample torque; definitely no wimp and one of its high points. Road feel and handling is good overall. Riding on poor condition asphalt, while noticeable, was not distracting. On well paved streets it was as smooth as I imagine a budget scooter can offer. There is road feel, it’s not a Lexus. I have on issue with the feel as I like some road “connection”. Maneuvering corners, however, felt imbalanced and imprecise compared to my experience with rental scooters. Maybe the 300x’s taller stature or fatter deck vs a rental scooter plays a role here, maybe I just need more practice. I can’t say for sure yet, but it was not a “natural” feel regardless. THE APP: NIU asks for name and email during registration, I thought it would be more. The app collects GPS data, but I don’t know if has access to other personal information tied to my phone. NIU says you can turn off GPS, but I couldn’t locate the switch in my app as shown in either NIU’s online instructions or in my own browsing of the app. It’s possible I overlooked it, and turning off location services via my phone’s settings is an option. All of the 300x’s core functionality is exclusive to the NIU app. Key app offerings: 1. Ride data – routes taken including hill grade % 2. Remaining battery charge 3. Option to require physically pushing off to start the motor and the initial speed (choose between approximately 2mph and 4mph). 4. Adjusting regenerative braking from weak to strong. This affects both the amount of power recaptured and strength of the rear brakes. 5. Adjusting acceleration and speed limits 6. Unlocking the electronic lock – the user can electronically lock the scooter by long pressing the button on the LCD screen. 7. Auto Cruise Control. Most of these are self-explanatory and I’ve discussed a few already. Most important to understand is the app is essential to getting the most satisfying ride out of the 300X, even if not officially required for use. This includes setting start up and max speed, braking power, and enabling theft prevention. Auto cruise control works like this - maintain a constant speed for a few feet and the 300X will lock to it until you either squeeze the brakes or engage the throttle. It’s better than not having cruise control, but I’d prefer a hard button. First, just because one is going at a constant speed doesn’t mean it’s a good time for cruise control. Imagine if your car did this. But, also, because the throttle is finnicky it’s hard to stay at a single speed for long, so engaging auto cruise control is not simple like with a push of a button. BOTTOM LINE The 300X is well built and feature packed for its price tier. The ideal user is probably someone who finds rental scooters too small for comfort, needs good range, and also is accepting that an app is effectively required to get the most out of this model.
