    Best thing I've ever bought

I am a huge electronics buff and gamer. The Nvidia shield satisfied the itch for a high end media center/ media server device and also the console itch by doubling as the greatest way to enjoy generations worth of emulators with the great controllers designed for the shield. Nvidia grid amazing and if you own a gaming computer game streaming works like a charm a long as your router is good enough to handle the bandwidth. This is the best purchase I've made in years. It does everything! It is small and sleek. It is capable of side loading apps from Google play and supports Bluetooth or wireless keyboardservice and mice. I paired it with the Logitech k400 plus which I also purchased from best buy and it was heaven on earth. I cannot tell you how much better this is than any apple TV, roku, ps4, Xbox one or Tivo you can throw at it. I run Netflix and vlc files in 4k and it's paradise.

Excellent gaming system hands down the Tegra processor is great. This android box packs a big punch great for media streaming apps like Sling YouTube etc. it can be connected via Ethernet or WiFI connection. Almost Perfect with the Right Expectations...

The Shield TV Console from Nvidia is a truly great product on the verge of being perfect... that is if you purchase it with the right expectations. This device will by no means replace an Xbox One or a Playstation 4. But to be fair, that is not the target audience for this console. In fact, calling it a console is a bit misleading. It should be classified as an Android TV set-top box with game streaming capabilities. In the Android TV portion of the device, it performs well beyond what you would expect or could even want/need. Android TV by nature is simplistic and fluid, and that's exactly what you get with the Shield. Navigating the Google Play Store, streaming 4K content from Netflix, and even local MKV playback of 1080p media is effortless. The real gem of this system is the included access to Nvidia exclusive content and the performance you get from the Tegra X1 processor in this puppy. Talk about fluid... this thing will make you completely forget that the games you are playing are being served up from an Nvidia data center and not stored locally on the console. Now, for full disclosure on what I have just said, you do need to have a strong connection (bandwidth) to support said streaming. If you have DSL or low-grade cable internet service ie; 3-15 mbps service, this is not the console for you, if you are wanting to do heavy streaming of gaming titles. However, if you are using a high-end cable service or fiber ie; 15-100 mbps, you should be golden. I have been heavily streaming Street Fighter X Tekken and even some of the Batman Arkham titles and the response and playback have been stellar with my Verizon Fios 150/150 service. I know that some will say that these titles have been around for a few years and that the Shield would not hold up to the likes of the XBO or PS4, but come on, when some folks have trouble streaming Netflix of all things, steaming a fast moving video game at 60 fps over the internet is fantastic for a device coming in under the $200 mark. Another unbelievable feature is using Kodi for Android on this console. Holy cow, content has never looked so good for a budget HTPC style device. Think WDTV (crazy codec support) meets HTPC (Home Theater PC) using local, streaming or NAS (Networked Attached Storage) media, wrapped in a completely customizable interface. When all said and done, the Shield shines at what it is meant to do... serve as an Android TV box, and provide great gaming for the Casual - Moderate gamer. This is NOT a $400+ console experience. Having said that... it's perfect that it is not a $400+ console. There is no need for Nvidia to try to go head to head with Microsoft or Sony to compete for already established marketshare. This is the reason that Nvidia has been able to keep the price reasonable and performance on par with it's price point. Name one other device that can give you all of this and the ability to stream 4K content and use 4K pass-through for under $200. With Android TV in it's infancy, the future is bright and the Shield is the console to have for the next 2-3 years, based on what Google is offering content wise and Nvidia is pioneering with the Shield Streaming Service. If you must have the latest tiles and demand the absolute highest quality in graphics and locally stored games, go get one of the dedicated systems that are designed for just that. If you want the ultimate Android TV/Game-Media Streaming/4K Content set-top box/console.......................... You Have Found It!

I am a huge fan of the NVIDIA Shield TV. It has an incredible amount of features in one device. It’s excellent as a Gaming device AND excellent at streaming media from a variety of services, such as Netflix, Pandora, and HuluPlus, YouTube. In many cases that streaming is in 4K Ultra HD , and with 7.1 Dolby as well. With NVIDIA’s Gamestream feature, you can stream a large number of games from one’s own PC that has an NVIDIA GeForce GTX graphics card. So those games you are already playing on your PC can now also be used on your TV without lag. (To avoid lag you may need a pretty fast Wifi network, or alternatively for both the Nvidia Shield TV and the PC to both be hardwired to the same router.) According to Nvidi’as web site, you can even access your PC’s games while you are away from home. NVidia also has a streaming service called NVIDIA GeForce Now that will allow you to play some great PC games that they have on their servers. (This was renamed from the NVIDIA Grid service mentioned in Best Buy’s web site.) The NVIDIA Shield TV is compatible with a large number of apps and games from the Google Play store. Both free and games to purchase. The video quality and playability of these Android games on the device are extraordinary as it has an excellent graphics processor and other excellent hardware. If you do a web search for “Play the best android games on your shield”, one of the links will be from NVIDIA, and that will have a list of many of the Shield compatible games. Then change the drop down from All Devices to “SHIELD Android TV” to narrow this down. And to narrow down even further to Shield Exclusive games that work only on a Shield device (but no other type of Android device) change that drop-down to “ONLY ON SHIELD”. These “Only on Shield” games are rather special! I am so happy that last month I had purchased myself a present of the NVIDIA Shield TV from Best Buy. I have never written a review for Best Buy before. But the NVIDIA SHIELD TV is something I greatly like, and I felt it was very much worth the effort to spend the time to write this detailed review .

Glad I bought this. The voice search is handy. The game remote works for me and the kids, the wife likes the 'apple TV' style remote. Nice sleek design, but mainly appreciate it for it's speed and real decent ease of use. Some limitations on the Play store app compatibility... If an app isn't compatible it won't show up in the Play search... which of course is good.. But there are ways to load non NvidiaTV configured apps by using a 'Side Loader' App.. (which I used to expand my VPN options.) Cutting the cord was mainly about ensuring reasonable access to MLB , and I was able to figure it out. It has more media server capabilities than I have even figured out yet, but it connected seamlessly to my WD Cloud drive... But I I have plenty of room to grow with it. I bought a 'Matricom' device for another room for half this price before I bought this so I could prove the (cable) cord cutting concept to myself and family... But I'll be eventually be replacing that device with another Nvidia sheild due the better speed, stability, performance, ease of use of the Shield. Started this review as 4 star, but as I can't think of any valid criticism..... I'm bumping it up to a 5... great job Nvidia!

I have only installed Doom 3 BGF and Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic on the internal memory and have 3.31 GB Left.... guess i should get a Micro SD card. The Graphics Look Amazing!!! and the Grid Streams Games Solid on a Basic wireless connection. I cant wait to see what the Future Holds!!..

I love using the shield. Really like the fact that it is android based so I can download apps from the app store and whatever I can't I just side load on it which is very easy to do. The thing is very quick and responsive and since I got it I ended up canceling my sling tv service because I can get it all on this for free. I really like that I can use FIOS mobile on this so I can watch some of the FIOS channels on it for free. I tried other android tv boxes and they all had issues with freezing or not having enough horse power to keep working but this thing just flies. Only con I find is the controller they give you with it. My controlled died after like 2 weeks of use and I could not sync it with the box but contacted nvidia and they shipped me a new one on RMA. Other con about the controller is that the battery dies on it very quick. I got to recharge it every week otherwise it will just run out of power. Wish they included the remote with it but otherwise its really good system and would definitely recommend.

The Shield TV was exactly what i needed! All the apps for music and video i need (Spotify, Pandora, Google Music, **KODI**, Hulu, Netflix, Sling TV...etc) and the ability to play some computer games on my TV! (Witcher Series, Battlefield, Batman Series) I even got to play some Android TV games on the system. (they are OK, but decent to waste some time) Pros: - App Selection for Music and Movies - Nvidia GameStream - 4K Resolution - All the ports you need - Expandable Storage with MicroSD Card Cons: - Controllers are Fine, but PS4 Controller Capability would be make this console PERFECT - Android TV is young, so there is a lot of room for improvement (But overall it works for what i need it to work) - Android TV Games are limited and the most of them have in-app purchases which are annoying... - It's Not Free If you need 4K, Top Movie/Audio Apps, and want to stream games from your computer, CHECK THE NVIDIA SHIELD OUT! IT MADE MY HOME THEATER SET UP PERFECTION!!!!! THANK YOU NVIDIA!!

    Best streamer for gaming

I debated getting this as it costs more than other streamers, and I had previously been using a Nexus Player and liked the Android TV features. Since I had Nvidia GPUs in my PC, I thought I'd try the Gamestream feature as well as the Geforce Now service. I have been very pleased with it overall, and definitely recommend it over other streamers if you want to game at all. The operation is fluid and the supported apps work well, most of them with voice search. The controller and remote feel very solid and I like having the 3.5mm jack and microUSB port. The microphone and volume controls are also great, and are included on both. Having microSD is what I really wanted since the Nexus Player only has 8gb, non-expandable, and gigabit Ethernet with 2x USB 3.0 ports is useful as well. There are a few cons that keep it from being perfect, however. The volume controls on both the controller and remote are often finicky, and don't always work on the first press. Also, there's some slight lag when using Gamestream on the local network, even with the PC and Shield wired. The app selection is somewhat sparse still, as has been mentioned before, though that relates to Android TV more than with the Shield itself. But overall, great buy - definitely recommend.

I got this on sale, including the free remote during the black Friday week deal. I have to say that I'm using it everyday. It is fast and the graphics are one of the best on a console. Look it up: Tegra x1. The online game hub is awesome for $7.99 a month, (free for the first 3 months), I get tons of online games that are included. I'm too cheap to pay for the newer titles as it cost just about the same as the hard copy for other platforms. Lags sometimes when I'm playing if someone is downloading something. I also use Kodi as my video and music manager and it's available in the google play market! No side loading necessary. Netflix and youtube gets used daily. Love it!

I have used every streaming device from a hacked Apple TV to an original modded Xbox. But this was my first Android TV box. It is fast and snappy. The voice search is great. The Google Play store has tons of apps. The only thing it is missing is Amazon Prime Video - they are ways to get around it but it is a pain. I love the KODI app and the Plex App is great too. I am able to retire my Roku since I dont watch Prime that much. If you watch downloaded movies and/or use Plex this is great. Not to mention all the Gaming capabilities if you have a Nvidia GFX card.

The Nvidia Shield TV is something any PC gamer should be able to appreciate. If you've contemplated building an HTPC or thought about picking up a Steam Link, don't bother (actually HTPCs are fun to build so don't hesitate there). For someone who is looking for a simple plug and play box that connects to the internet and your Nvidia Geforce enabled PC this is the way to go. Netflix, HBO, Hulu, and 4k it's all here (Amazon is not unfortunately). If you have an Nvidia Geforce 660ti and up you're ready to stream your PC games to this thing. The price honestly isn't bad for the performance and the ease of use is great. If you're a hardcore PC gamer like myself and occasionally likes to hang our on the couch this is a most certainly worthy purchase. Would buy again!

This really is a excellent unit. I only gave it four stars for one reason. The remote is Bluetooth only so you can't control it with say a Harmony ultimate one remote. I know first world problems I have to use two remotes instead of one. on the positive love being able to connect any set 3.5 headphones into the remote to listen quietly without disturbing others. The unit is very fast and Nvidia seems committed to upgrading it and making it better. They've already had a OS update since i purchased it. 4k is a bonus round plus you can play games on it classic and new up to date.

I replaced my Roku 3 with the shield TV, been using it for month. Let's go over the positives first. This thing is a speedy compared to the Roku, almost too fast, there is no UI lag at all, it comes with a gaming controller in the box and the internals are beefy enough to play tons of Android games. With the Nvidia hub, you can stream games from the Nvidia grid and so far I can tell you that you won't even be able to tell that you are streaming games, I have a gaming pc and you are able to stream games from your pc as well, with a hard world connection to my pc I was able to play latest games with zero lag in 1080p resolution. Netflix, Hulu and plex load fast. Now the negatives, the Nvidia grid library is lacking in content of games, if you do wifi streaming from your pc then get Reay for lag, the Roku beats this thing in streaming channels by a mile.

I have a Nexus Player that I was using in my family room for almost a year, so I already knew what to expect from the Shield. What I didn't expect was how much I would enjoy the little "extra" features of this box. Being able to plug headphones into the controller is absolutely amazing when my wife is trying to sleep on the couch in the evening and I still want to watch a nice action movie. Being able to plug in an external hard drive, add an SD card for more storage, the GRID gaming service, etc. All good things. I only wish that there was a bundle that included the regular remote control (which I also bought) instead of, or in addition to, the game controller. Nvidia is really good about pushing updates quickly, too. VERY happy with this purchase.

I have the minix neo x8 plus, chromecast, roku, and now the Nvidia Shield. This device is by far superior in speed, navigation and looks. In particular I love the headphone jack built in to the remote, the built in chromecast, and voice search. Other than that, the processor is unbelievably smooth for gaming and streams 1080p movies from plex or kodi with no lag. The Nvidia shield has now pulled rank on my other boxes and completely runs my home theatre set up in my man cave.
