Clear sound that can fill a room
|

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.
I am very happy with this speaker. It has clear sound that can fill a room. Two tweeters, two midrange and one subwoofer. The woofer is directed upwards and the grills on both sides of the case are ports/tubes for the woofer. The ported design provides more bass from a woofer this size. You can clearly hear every note of a bass guitar and the overall sound balance is good. The bass isn't muddy and has punch, the midrange is clear and the highs are crisp.
It isn’t listed in the manual but the speaker will time-out and sleep if no music is playing so it won’t drain the battery. NFC pairing is a nice touch for android users. The 5 LED battery level indicator is great and I wish more speakers included this feature. The built-in rechargeable battery has a large capacity for long playtime (10 hours) so it is great you can also use the speaker as a power-bank to charge your phone/device with the built-in USB port. Just plug in your phone and it starts charging. To recharge the speaker you must plug the AC adapter (comes with 4 interchangeable plugs) into a wall outlet (cannot charge the speaker using USB). The speaker includes a 3.5mm Aux-in just in case your sound source doesn’t support bluetooth. The cool thing is the speaker also includes a 3.5mm Aux-OUT so you can daisy-chain the Rebel with another speaker and crank it to 11.
The handle on this Rebel isn’t very good. It isn’t a handle at all, not something you can grip. It is a finger-tip hold that doesn’t even reach your first knuckle. If the speaker will be left in one place all the time and only moved occasionally then you might not care but it certainly isn’t a speaker you would carry around like an old boombox.
The backlit logo and buttons are way too bright. It is a nice touch having backlit buttons but they don’t time-out and dim and then wake when you touch a button like other speakers. No, these are full blast bright as long as the speaker is on. If your eyes are adjusted to a dark room at night the backlight is overkill and ruins your night vision. Absolutely no reason to be that bright. If I used this regularly in a dark room I would put several layers of painters or masking tape over the buttons to tone them down. It is difficult trying to show this with a picture because the camera adjusts the exposure to compensate.
Overall it is a great sounding well built speaker with some nice features.

Fantastic bluetooth speaker!

Ok - this thing is amazing! Prior to having received this, I'd never heard of the Nyne branding. I've got one go-to speaker that I've had for 5+ years now (which I use almost daily) and I use it as a basis for comparing all others (Logitech Boom). With that being said, let's get started:
Packaging:
The packaging for this product is REALLY nice! It definitely feels like you are getting the bang for your buck. To be honest, prior to having received this, I really didn't expect it to be as big as it is! Holy, cow, this thing is huge! Inside the box, it's pretty minimal. You get the speaker and a box of accessories. Accessories include the charging cable, which also included various snap on/off plug-ins for various international compatibility, which I thought was a nice touch. You also get a 3.5mm audio plug. Not too much to have to keep up with. My only issue with the overall packaging is the manual. It's one of those huge fold-out manuals which I entirely loathe. They're HUGE and contain 6+ languages and nearly IMPOSSIBLE to get folded back correctly. I've mentioned this in several of my other reviews and to me, is incredibly lazy. On the bottom of the speaker are 4 rubberized pads. This is nice, especially when sitting on a table or somewhere clean. However, I can see this getting dirty VERY easily and loosing it's grip after sitting on the ground/floor a few times, which obviously is what its designed for (it's a "party" speaker).
Setup:
This was a no-brainer. Having used a lot of bluetooth devices, this was a breeze. The speaker goes into search mode automatically once turned on and even auto-connects when it recognizes a previously paired device. However, I could never get the NFC bluetooth pairing to work. I have an iPhone 7 Plus and tried this, per the manual. No amount of tapping the phone to the NFC-designated part of the speaker worked. So, I just went in like normal - into the Bluetooth settings - and paired it.
Speaker quality and functionality:
The quality of the speaker is amazing. It also has more bass than I expected. My wife said it looked like a "mini amplifier", LOL. The entire speaker is made of a textured material, which feels like silicone. It has a speaker all across the middle of it, as well as two smaller ones on the sides. The top of the speaker has the Nyne logo, a power button, a phone button, music controls (play, pause, forward, back, etc) and a volume up/down button. The entire speaker is water/dust proof and shock resistant. It also has a really nifty feature of having a built-in handle underneath the top-back portion of the speaker, making is super easy to transport. The back panel swings down and has a waterproof seal behind it. Inside this panel is the charge port, an Aux port, Line Out port, USB port, a batter level indicator button and of course the charge LED's that show the current battery level or, when charging, how far it is to be complete.
The only issue I had with this speaker was the volume. Unlike most bluetooth speakers, the volume of this one is independent of your phone volume. The first time I used it, I tried music. It was connected and although my phone was at max volume, hardly nothing was coming out of it. So, after about 15 minutes of troubleshooting and reviewing the manual, we started spamming the volume + button. That fixed it. So, now, I just set the volume on the speaker as loud as it will go, then adjust the max volume with my phone or whatever other device is connected to it. :-)
The overall volume is impressive, given the size. However, it's not as loud as I expected it to be. Using it indoors is great, but outdoors, I can see the volume being an issue. I didn't realize until this was already on it's way to me, but there is another, bigger model called the Nyne Rock that supposedly pumps out the volume even more but is much bigger. I also toyed around with the phonecall functionality. I will say the the quality of the person coming out of the speaker is great and loud enough to hear well. However, any distance on my end of being anywhere besides right on top of the speaker, the caller said that I sounded very distant.
Sadly, the overall volume of this speaker is about on par with the cylindrical one (the Boom) that I've had for years on my desk, which is much, much, much smaller. So, this, along with having to be right on top of the speaker for the other person to hear me on a call are the only reasons I've given this a 4 star instead of 5.

This modern day boom box, called the Nyne - Rebel Portable Bluetooth Speaker is a really nice unit for a modest price.
It has plenty of bass.
It has a huge battery.
It has an input jack.
It has an output jack.
It can charge a device.
It is durable.
It is splash/dust proof.
It has a built in handle.
It has back-lit buttons.
It has NFC for easy pairing via Bluetooth.
It Rocks!!!
I wish it charged via a usb cable and not it's proprietary charging cable.
I wish it had a little better balance of highs to it's great bass response.
Ultimately this unit was surprisingly well built with great bass. I would recommend it to a friend.
The NFC is my favorite part of this device, making it uber easy to connect.

It is very loud

It is very loud is the best way to describe it. My opinion is what differentiate this product from your typical (and smaller) portable Bluetooth speaker is how LOUD it will get. The typical BT speaker is meant for smaller quite spaces for optimal sound outage. This boom box styled device is meant for an auditorium (lol). We took it to the lake and on more than one occasion, we were asked to turn it down. I did get the product wet (not submerged) and at first was apprehensive that it was not going to work or would have bugs afterwards but, no sign of any concern as of yet. The Bluetooth range is phenomenal, strong, and clear. Not a fan of the NFC but it works. I rated this product a four only because the nostalgia of its styling is cool but by today's standards out of place. I have another BT speaker that is not nearly as loud but can compete and is a quarter of the size. I feel like this is more designed for a niche need location but would be great for that specific location (gym, pool area, veranda, back patio, sport court(S), large loud open areas, or just blasting paint off your living room walls)

I have heard other portable wireless speakers, but this one really sounds great ! Plenty loud for in and outdoor fun. Buttons light up , which is nice. Also has a battery check level button to let you know when you need a charge. Bluetooth is also very good on this unit. Bass is plenty good. You will enjoy the punch this speaker puts out.

Party Radio
|

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.
The first thing that struck me out of the box is the size of the radio. I was expecting a smaller, more portable unit. This unit is 15" wide by 11" deep x 6" tall. It has a carry handle, but it's not super-portable. This is the kind of speaker that you take to a party, or the beach, or a tailgate -- somewhere that you really want to turn up the music. Outside of that, it would be a good shelf unit for an office, which is where my unit will spend most of its time.
I'm not an audiophile, so I cannot speak to the technical aspects of the unit. It comes with an assortment of plugs for use in different countries, so the only real assembly required is to install the proper plug onto the transformer. There is a light in the back to show charging progress. I'm not sure why it's on the back, where you cannot easily see if if plugged in. The inputs are protected by a door that snaps tightly to keep the debris out.
I had trouble syncing the unit to my Android phone via Bluetooth. I would think it was connected and then the music would still be playing through my phone. It took about 4 tries before it finally connected. I was able to turn off the phone features in the Settings, so that the phone wouldn't ring through the speakers. I first played an orchestrated soundtrack piece, and I wasn't impressed by the sound. I turned the unit all the way up and it still wasn't impressive. The piece had a lot of bass and percussion, and it just sounded "blah". I then tried several more poppier tunes and those sounded great. This doesn't have an equalizer of any kind. If I were designing something like this, I'd create an app that would have the ability to set the sound to the mix that I want. There is no specific app for this product.
Bottom line is that this is a great party radio; might even be good for Karaoke.

Amazing base, deep, clear sound Bluetooth speaker

It reminds me of my first portable AM-FM radio and cassette recorder/player stereo. With 4-D cells for power, I used it in my car as it's radio. (Then came the boom box craze#. My sister would always grab it and take it to the beach.
The Nyne outdoor speaker hooked up as a headphone in my phone's Bluetooth pairing app in seconds. Your could even use the NFC touch sequence if you like. It even comes with a 3-ft., 3.5mm audio input patch cord # for the output of you cell's headphone jack#.
Most important, the sound. Loud and clear. Stereo speakers with a rich, deep bass center channel speaker. The flat black rubberized case protects the 18" x 8" x 8" speaker. While not waterproof, it appears to be rugged.
Here are the highlights: Top-rear on/off button with +/- volume, forward-back buttons, Bluetooth pairing button.
On the back behind a hinged cover are the USB port, 3.5-mm in and out jacks, push button to check the charge status via five #5) LED lamps and a AC jack to charge the unit. I'm hoping the USB port will power my phone while in use.
It works great with my tablet and cell, any Bluetooth pair-able device. This Nyne speaker will be my new companion while in the garage, woodworking or fixing the cars.

This is a great Bluetooth speaker for the money. I owned the previous model, the Nyne Bass. The Bass was lacking mid range sound. Nyne must have realize this shortcoming and upgraded the speakers. Good sound, plenty loud with good Bluetooth range and long battery life.

I wasn't wanting to jump into the overpaid Beats Pill wireless speakers crowd. I did want a speaker big enough to hear the highs, mid and lows of my music without the over priced sticker.
The Nyne Rebel is shockingly awesome. This works perfectly with my Samsung phone, Laptop and Tablet. Easy to connect and pair. Great distance, volume control and SOUND. It is also water/weather proof and light to carry. I love I can charge my phone while it plays via USB. I can expand to add another speaker with the 3.5mm male to male cable. Holds a great charge and lasts a very long time.
I took a chance and it COMPLETELY PAID OFF!!! This is so worth it!!!! I am buying another this weekend for our Father's Day BBQ.

I really like this speaker due the many options it has, however I think its more perfect for indoors. It has great battery life, better than other brand I have. Another great feature is that it has usb port and can be used as a charger for electronic devices, also has microphone ports for karaoke!
As I said before, the one thing that is not so great is that on the outdoors it can be not so loud, so it is great for indoor use but if you are using it outdoors there better not be other noises, other than that, its perfect!

The sound on this speaker is great. I'm using this mainly as my speaker for my outdoor gatherings at my house. Speaker has plenty of power to fill the backyard with sound and sound great doing it. I do wish there was a way to turn down the bass on some very bass heavy songs. But otherwise this speaker performs excellent for every genre of music I've thrown at it. Battery life has been pretty good too. Overall I'm very satisfied with this speaker, considering I was eyeing the jbl extreme for a long time. No regrets on scooping this one up.

Great speaker! The base is amazing. Super loud. I’ve had this speaker for over a month and haven’t needed to charge it yet. Easy to carry around. I bring it into the bathroom, so I can listen to music while I shower. the sound is clear and seems unaffected by constantly being in steam for long periods of time. I’ve been looking for a good speaker for some time now and I struck gold with this one.

I was looking for a sound system that would provide clean, clear sound in an outdoor setting. This is perfect! It is rugged and virtually indestructible, very stable. The sound quality is amazing! Indoors, it is absolutely so clear, so crisp, and the volume level exceeds any indoor needs. Outside, it delivers great sound to a crowd of people!!

Normally, I would post a pic, but this thing just is what it is in the picture. It's big, and it's a boss. And this is only the REBEL - not the bigger version.
The devices comes with a regular-sized male-male 3.5mm audio cable for connecting to a sound source (input) or by adding one (aux out). Instruction manual, safety manual. Proprietary charging cable with 4-5 different snap-on AC plug prongs which allows use in different countries. Personally, this is a waste since these plug adapter kits can be purchased online to adapt to multiple plugs anyway.
I paired up with a Samsung Galaxy S8 with no issues. I used manual BT connection (not NFC) and it connected immediately. The S8 and the Rebel do not have "volume pairing", so the 2 volumes work independently of each other. The best solution is to turn up the volume of the Rebel all the way and then control the volume with the handset. There is no volume indicator; however, once max volume is reached, the entire row of buttons on the Rebel blink rapidly as long as the vol+ button is pressed.
Phone functions all work perfectly with the speaker. The built-in mic worked without flaw, and my sister (on the other line) could not tell that I was even using an external speaker as my communication. The device did not have music on it, so I used Pandora to listen to some tunes. All buttons on the Rebel (play/pause, rew, ff, vol+/- all worked perfectly with Pandora. I maxed out the volume on the S8 and the Rebel on multiple songs including heavy rock (Metallica), and there was nearly no distortion whatsoever. The bass sound was flowing out of the ends of the speaker while the mids/highs came out the front. Sounded great and powerful.
I tested out the AUX OUT with a Bose Revolve+ speaker using the 3.5mm cable and when I hooked up the Bose and spread them out, it sounded phenomenal. The Bose Revolve+ added a little more highs that the Rebel did not offer - and combined, it really mixed well with each other.
I had the Rebel on a marble counter top and even with the super sticky rubber feet, it did tend to move slightly due to the bass it was able to generate. So words to the wise - if you put this speaker up high, keep an eye on it if it's jammin' because after some time, it may vibrate off of the surface and onto the floor.
The build was great. Very sturdy. The handle was a must-have engineering necessity. To carry this thing without a handle would be extremely awkward.
The rear panel also offered a power indicator button which has around 5-6 little white lights that shows how much battery you have left. Good feature, but IMO, that's something better shown in a more visible place so it's easy to check.
I have a couple of gripes about the speaker....
1. The charger doesn't need to be proprietary. It needs to have USB charging capabilities, even if a USB-C connection. Everyone has USB charging cables (well, maybe except for some apple people?) for their phones and other devices... no one wants to take another cord that can only be used for this device.
2. The sound of the highs isn't ideal. It's always good to find a speaker that has it all - bass, treble, mid-range... this one does, but it does lack that added high that some other speakers offer where you can hear the cymbals a little clearer or the high-hat on the drum set.... going up on the audio frequency range would help tremendously.
3. Finally, this BT device claims to have 100-feet range. I tested in my house, and it cleared as far as any other BT device - around 30-35 feet before it started clipping out. Keep in mind that the S8 I used has BT 5.0 which claims 4x the range of regular BT. Having said that, walls matter. Once you get to that 25-30-foot range and walls happen, your audio will begin to suffer. If I'm doing something wrong here, perhaps NYNE will let me know what I need to do to get that 100' range. If it's merely OPEN space to 100', that usually only happens at the beach or a park. In a home, if walls matter, then 100' will never work - at least it didn't in mine.
Overall, a great speaker. It will get plenty of use during travel baseball season. If it rains, it will be semi-protected as it is only splash/dust proof to an extent. Other speakers can nearly swim... so you'll still need to keep it pretty dry if you don't want it to fry.

The trend for bluetooth speakers seems to be small, smaller, smallest. Although manufacturers have managed to get decent sound out of the small packages, at some point for bass performance and volume, larger size is necessary. Thankfully a few of the manufacturers are providing options with larger size for better sound. I picked up the Nyne Rebel on sale, and have been very impressed by it so far. Sound quality is much better than my Bose Soundlink. Excellent indoors and outdoors. Bluetooth connectivity has been a little more difficult than I would have expected though, when trying to hand off connection from one device to another.
