First off let me say WOW this thing can be loud!!! I opened my box and found that it was very well protected in a Styrofoam cocoon. I had to tip box upside down to get it out. So no worries about being damaged during shipping. Once removed I opened the accessories box which includes, Instructions that I found lacking a little but acceptable. They are very basic and would be easier to read if the info came as a booklet form and not a map type folded paper. They do have about 10 languages in the manual. They also have a pass through audio cable, and for the ac adapter, about 5 different plug in styles for standard U.S. plugs as well as euro type plugs. The unit came with about 75% charge. It only took about 15 minutes to finish charging it. The charge is to last up to 10 hrs. There are indicator lights in the plug port (that has a plastic water resistant seal) there is also a USB port for use as a power bank and an audio in and out to connect multiple speakers. Connecting via Bluetooth was a snap, this units is Bluetooth 4.0 compatible and also has NFC for easier connection. The range is about 100 feet. There is a built in Microphone for hands free calling. This speaker is on the large side, great for parties and pool/beach days. It weighs about 12 lbs. and is 21 inches wide. The sound from this unit is very impressive. With the built in Amp there is a good mix of high tones, mid tones and Bass that you can feel the beat. To get the best sound out of it make sure it is on a flat hard surface, as I first played it on my carpeted floor, It sounded muffled until I put it up on the table and then I was blown away. It was loud enough without distortion that my dog ran from the room. The carrying handle in the back is very nice and it is hidden, you can just pick it up and go. Although this is slightly water and dust resistant it is not water proof. If caught out in the rain, you do have a little time to get it under cover without worry. I have many Bluetooth speakers and so far this one sound all around the best. I would not hesitate to recommend this unit to my friends or family.

Well – the title says it all. Yes – my 13, 16 and 20-year-old kids are fighting over who gets to use this speaker at home and on the lake. Their initial impression was “WOW” right when it came out of the box and even before we turned it on! Once paired, they were impressed with the sound and also the loudness! I think I’ll bribe them with “speaker time” based on the chores they do! OK – for the details. First know this thing is Big. I attached a picture of it sitting on my son’s dresser. It takes up the entire top. Second, know that the battery life seems great thus far and I don’t think there will be a problem with reaching the posted 8-10 hour play time at all. Could probably even be more if the LED buttons on top shut off after 5 min or something. Water resistance is a great feature – as the kids plan to use it on the boat over the July 4th holiday. It has a protective metal mesh screen all around – but it’s pretty thin and I can see that easily denting. We’ll see how it fares after a busy week at the cabin. Pairing was a snap – nobody should have any problems there at all. The charger that comes with also has 4 international plug adapters – a good feature depending on your use scenario. However, I don’t see you hauling this overseas with you as it is so big. One thing I wish is that there was WiFi capability as well as Bluetooth, it would make the experience that much better. Also, a tone or equalizer would be awesome too – so you can adjust the bass more, etc. Overall – very impressed. I gave it four stars do to the thin metal grille that will likely dent, no WiFi and no way to adjust tone. After the week of cabin use, I’ll see how it fares and might even get another! I would definitely recommend this to a friend – solely based on how much my kids are excited about it!

This is a fantastic speaker for outdoor use. One of the big problems with your typical smaller Bluetooth speaker is that it can't get loud enough in an outdoor setting with many people around. That is definitely not a problem with the Nyne Rock speaker. What I like: 1. Slick Rugged Design - really is what a boombox designed for the year 2017 should look like. Has a substantial weight, but can still be lifted with one hand using the hidden handle in the back of the unit. Does not feel like it is something that can be easily broken with the rubberized frame. Also, the water resistant IPX3 rating means you don't need to worry about incidental exposure to water from light rain or spills/splashes. All the connections are hidden behind a panel at the back, which keeps the overall look very clean when you are using it wirelessly. 2. Sound - Is great, only get slightly distorted at max volume, but max volume is so loud I would never use it anyways. Good bass and clarity. But the real highlight for this speaker above all others is volume. No other Bluetooth speaker I have tried comes close. 3. Bluetooth connectivity is as simple as it can be, automatically goes into pairing mode when turned on, and you just need to select the device from your phone or tablet and you're done. 4. Battery life of 10 hours - I haven't tested this myself, but if it can last close to this long with the amount of power it is able to put out, that is very good. You can definitely find smaller speakers that can last longer, but with 65W of power, you can't really beat this. I can't really think of anything that I don't like about this speaker. If you are using as intended, to fill an outdoor space with music, you won't be disappointed. It is a very big speaker, much bigger than I expected, but once you hear how loud it can go, you understand why it is so big.

Owning several small bluetooth speakers, I was looking to get my hands on something suitable for the basement, garage or backyard. The Nyne X-Series Rock fits that bill perfectly. In many ways, the Nyne replaces to old boom box I used to carry on my shoulder as I rolled down the street on my banana seat bike in the 1980s. It is powerful, portable, and at 12 lbs, light enough to hoist on your shoulder so you can look cool. But seriously, this speaker delivers louder than average volume and better than average bass. (You are never going to get high end bass out of an all-purpose portable bluetooth speaker, but this model performs better than most I have listened to.) Volume is where this speaker excels. Audio quality is a bit better than average for a portable bluetooth speaker at virtually any volume. I do wish the internal positioning of the speakers was a bit different as I felt like I was losing some sound to the ground when I set it in the yard as compared to placing it on a shelf in the garage. Using it on a hard, flat, elevated surface is best at lower volumes. I cannot vouch for the call answering feature as no one has called while I have had the speaker on. Nor can I vouch for battery life at this point as I am a "usually keep it plugged in" listener. Rated for "up to 12 hours," I am guessing that assumes a very low volume. Cranking it up to "11" requires more power to drive the speakers and therefore reduces battery life, so my guess is more like 8 hours for that backyard bbq or pool party. The thoughtful design provides a nice handle grip with a good center of gravity. There are also two loops where you could hook a strap on the front if you want. The Nyne X-Series Rock claims to be water resistant but don't assume you can float it in a pool. A brief shower, a spray with the hose, or spilled beer is what they mean by water resistant. I do wish there was a built-in waterproof "pocket" to slip your phone, keys and wallet into. As for features, I love the NFC enabled pairing. My cell phone already has 20 remembered bluetooth devices with horrible names. With the Nyne X-Series Rock I don't need to select and pair the devices--I simply hold my NFC enabled phone up to the speaker and within a second the speaker powers on and connects automatically. The back has a water-tight access panel to the power input, USB power source (for charging), AUX-IN port and AUX-OUT (for daisy-chaining additional speakers according to the manufacturer). The AC power adapter comes with 4 different connectors to meet your country's standards, which is a nice bonus. In addition to the owner's manual, you also get a 3.5mm cable. I am really impressed and satisfied with this speaker. It gives me the volume smaller portable units lack. The design is thoughtful and the speaker is lightweight. Overall audio quality is good which matches with "four-stars" for this review. I'd really prefer to give 4.5 stars. If they could match the audio quality of the high-end (and high-priced) manufacturers they would easily have a 5-star product with this model.

Had bought a Bluetooth speaker before this one, The Nyne Rock makes it look and sound like a matchbox. This system has a woofer, two mid-range and two tweeters in a box almost two feet wide, ready to grab and go, purposely built-in handle that is quite convenient. Listening to some smooth jazz (Flower Child by Eric Marienthal from Just Around the Corner) on Pandora now, not enough oh’s in Smooth. May not emerge from my Playroom for days now that the music has picked up the beat, pun intended. DO not gush often, but this is a one excellent Bluetooth Speaker System. Sounds are crystal clear, spatial “feel” of the sounds are just where you want to be. Bluetooth connected easily with PC as well as my quite old Windows Phone 8, which is using an archaic version of Bluetooth. Distance, my Rock could pick up the Bluetooth signal from my PC on the far side room in my home, completely through the home and several walls out on my side deck. Impressive. Cool feature that there is a handy Cell Phone charger built in to the access panel, that could come in handy. When I received the Speaker it was 50% charged, surprisingly it fully charged in less than half an hour. Then I played music from Pandora for approximately SIX hours and the system was still half charged. Very Cool. This included blasting Rock n Roll for close to an hour and then on to the Smooth Jazz. The Rock n Roll was not rocking my boat as much as the Jazz Tunes in terms of Quality, but that could be it was early genre and may not have the same quality of recording. I am picky about Speakers and Quality of Sound, and the Rock Hits the Sweet Spot. A great design that will go where you want to go or rest nicely in your playroom. Almost forgot, this machine is Rocking with 65W of power, that will light up the night. Wish list, would like the option to dial up the Bass on the unit. If running from computer or tablet you can use software to manage the sound. Do I like the Rock, YES! Have looked at many options for Bluetooth and this is the one that Rocks my Boat.

I can't believe that power and punch the nyne rock gives. I would recommend it for parties and outside for enjoying music.

Recently I picked up a Nyna X-series Rock Bluetooth speaker. I was surprised by the sheer mass of the speaker, about the footprint of a 24 inch widescreen display laid flat. Pairing the unit with my iPhone was pretty easy, large backlit buttons are on the top of the unit. Once paired I started playing a variety of my favorite music, starting with an acoustic piece. I was impressed by the clarity of the highs and mid range frequency reproduction. This unit could be cranked up quite a bit, volume is not a problem, although at higher levels it sometimes produces a wall of sound, you lose some of the dynamic range (difference between quiet and loud passages). Also for a large speaker it takes a bit to get the low end frequencies pumping, thus it is imperative that as is the case with many portable speakers you use a playback app where you can manipulate the sound profile using graphic equalizer settings. Where this speaker really shines is in the area of bass once you manipulate the sound profile. At mid volume there is good sound reproduction, you just have to find the sweet spot. The battery life is impressive, although I have not fully gone through a discharge/charge cycle yet. I have played approximately 7 hours of moderate volume and the handy battery charge indicator (on the rear of the unit, with an input in/out and USB plug) stills shows 5 out of 5 in regards to remaining battery life. Nyne Rock boombox speaker is a wonderful speaker with a lot added to it, I didn't expect much until actually took this out to the beach and really started using it. First off the speaker is fairly huge but for good reason, its rugged design is nice with added waterproof. I literary had water all over this thing at the beach and it kept going. The range is actually over 100 ft before it started to cut on and off. The speaker can reach far though walls and long enough to go to the back yard from the kitchen. The sound is great with a lot of bass, range and clarity. For the price I'm surprised it can pack as much as it does. NFC was easy to pair with my Galaxy S6 Edge Plus and Google Pixel, Battery life last me about 9 hours, Ports included are a USB to keep your phone charged and an AUX for other devices without a Bluetooth. To me this is a great party speaker to have out and play for your friends and family. I honestly love it and it serves it purpose really well. Wonderful made product from Nyne!

Nyne? Who or what is that? Never heard of them. You only get one chance to make a first impression and Nyne apparently understood that and delivered, in my opinion. Sound quality: first rate Design: handsome style and great ergonomics Initial quality: nice fit and finish with impressive materials With a speaker, sound quality is always the purchaser’s the main concern. A music playback device or an app with a graphic equalizer is a great way to tailor the sound to your liking. I found I wanted to do a slight amount of tweaking to the lower end frequencies to make this speaker sound really good to me. I’m not sure why, but some Bluetooth devices can be a bit of a struggle to pair with your phone or computer, but the Rock speaker was one of the easiest I have ever connected to my phone. Nyne made a really clever AC power adapter with interchangeable prongs for wall outlets in different countries. It’s a neat trick that I have not seen supplied with any electrical products I have bought before. I don’t think you will want to travel with a speaker this size, but it helps streamline their packaging for various worldwide markets. A stereo mini-phone-plug to mini-phone-plug cable to connect a non-Bluetooth music source is included (one end is straight and the other end is a 90-degree angle - a good idea). This cable has a small hook-and-loop strap to keep it neatly coiled up, but it would have been nice if the Rock unit had a small storage compartment to store this and the AC adapter for when you decide to take the unit to the party rather than having the party come to you. The controls (and Nyne logo) on the top of the speaker illuminate nicely in white and blue (for Bluetooth connectivity) or white and green if you have something plugged into the auxiliary input jack. The lighting is even and looks nice, but does not photograph on a phone nearly as good as it looks in person. The door that covers the connectors on the back of the speaker has a gasket to keep out moisture and debris and it snaps shut securely. The door does have to be open to have any of the cables connected as there is no pass through slot for a cable when the door is closed. When I hooked up my iPhone via the USB connector to charge, the phone did accept the connection and charged without issue. Phone calls through the Rock worked exactly as described in the instructions with no issues. Using the “Line Out” jack, I connected the Rock to my home stereo and played music from my phone via Bluetooth through the Rock to my integrated amplifier that does not have Bluetooth or WiFi capability. Both the stereo’s speakers and the Rock’s speakers played music. I could turn down the speakers in the Nyne to “zero” and music continued playing through the stereo system with the ability to control the volume from my phone or the integrated amp. One thing of note was that the integrated amp’s volume control needed to be turned to a much higher volume position than when using other stereo components that are connected to it. The speaker has nice sized rubber pads on the bottom that not only protect the bottom of the speaker, but are extremely grippy on smooth surfaces (think car trunk or boat deck) and will keep the speaker from sliding off of slanted surfaces. I rarely give a product a full five stars as I can usually find some way to make an improvement for my personal tastes, but I found the Nyne Rock to be virtually perfect for my wants.

First impressions: These thing is big, and loud. I first compared the Nyne X series to the JBL Flip 3 - not a fair comparison in any way the Flip3 is 1/3 the cost, and they sounded that way. For close soft listening both are fine, but to fill my 16'x28' family room, the Flip was anemic and the Nyne held their own. Easily filling the room with a clean sound, maybe a little bass thin, but pretty darn good. I also have a set of older Kicker ik501s speakers that I've frequently used outdoors and at parties. I was pretty happy with them, until now. In comparison to the Nyne Rock the Kicker are getting the boot! What a difference, much more than I expected (both being about $200 speakers). The kicker's lacked midrange the richness and the sharp highs of the Nyne's. They had similar bass output, but that was about all, not nearly as bright. I tested on my "go to" speaker test music, Boston's first album and Pink Floyd's DSOTM. These speakers can get the volume level way up there. I then took them outside, ant they again shined, again a clearly better sound than the Kickers. but out side I could tell that the highs were much more directional that I noticed indoors. The bass was still good but now the speaker was not on the floor (which boosted it's bass) being up higher, close to ear level improved the overall midrange of the speaker but diminished the bass, which was ok, when listening from 20-30' away the overall tone was great for a boom box of this size. I've had a chance to use it outside on the week ends a couple of times, and I never got more than 8 hours of play time, but right around 8 streaming BT. While i'm on the BT issue, I compared BT to a wired connection, and was somewhat pleasantly surprised. As expected the wired sound was better, fuller than the BT, which distorted more quickly at higher volumes, and lacked some of the mid-range richness. I also happened to have a Chromecast Audio Streamer handy. So i plugged it into the wired connection and cast PF to the Nyne speaker. And I could not tell that it was wireless, the definition I found missing from the BT was fully restored.That being said I hope more manufactured will incorporate casting to their devices as well as BT. IMHO BT, from an iPhone (which I used as my source) is inferior to casting. I could get BT to work from about 50-60' before it got iffy, and I could cast from over 100' with no issues. Back to the Nyne speaker, I have thousands of $s invested in my main home system, and the Nyne can't compare, but I can't haul it around on a handle;I probably can't fit it all in my car. So there are tradeoffs. I do have a surround sound system installed in my back yard, with Definitive Tech speakers, and the Nyne don't have the same bass or stereo separation, but I'm comparing nearly $1K in speakers and a $500 receiver. But they held their own, the Nyne's provided plenty of nice sounds, I'll bet I can still get my neighbor to complain about the volume of the Nyne's, although it won't be because the bass from my outdoor speakers shake the wall. The Nyne's are not going to shake the walls outside, but they will certainly be loud enough to suit most needs. So I have better sounding speaker that are not portable, and I think casting is better than BT. Still I can happily recommend the Nyne "Rock" speakers, if you have room for them they will happily fill your room with nice sounds.

The Nyne - X-Series Rock Portable Bluetooth Speaker is a pretty good portable speaker. It is big in size; a throwback to the days of carrying a boombox on your shoulder. It has five speakers, all facing forward; two mid range, two tweeters and a subwoofer. The subwoofer doesn't really get the job done though, as the bass is a bit lacking. Maybe this is called the Rock because it sounds better playing rock music than it does hip hop or blues. I tried out different genres on the Rock and some sounded better than others. For instance, White Stripes 7 Nation Army sounded flat while Bjork's All Is Full Of Love sounded brilliant. Spanish guitar sounded great; Ice Cube needed some heftier bass. The size of the Nyne Rock speaker is big. It is almost two feet long and weighs in at 10 lbs. To me, that's borderline too big. You won't lose this sucker, that's for sure. It has a nice rubberized plastic exterior that should help absorb some shock when lugging it around and plopping it down on pavement or pavers. The speakers are protected by a hard plastic or metal mesh. The IPX-3 rating means that the unit can withstand water spray up to 60 degrees from the top of the device, so it should be okay around a pool. The Nyne Rock can be paired easily to a device either through Bluetooth 4.0 or NFC. With the NFC pairing, you just set your phone on the speaker to connect it. Super easy and convenient. It also has a built-in microphone so you can take calls with it. It sounds pretty good to the receiver, similar to the sound of a speakerphone. It has a hidden finger hold to carry it around. I wish the hole was a little deeper so I could get my fingers in a little farther for a more secure grip, but it is sufficient as is. One last feature is that you can hook together several units to play simultaneously. You can't hook together just any speakers with it though; I believe they all have to be Nyne X-Series Rock speakers. I guess this could be useful if you need some really loud sound in multiple directions. All in all, this is a pretty good outdoor bluetooth speaker. I would pick something else for an indoor speaker, but for outdoor use it is a pretty good unit. Long range connectivity, water resistance, 65 W of power and a fairly rugged design are all pluses. Large, heavy size and only moderate bass are the negatives. Also, please note that this speaker is not the kind that looks like a rock...

I own a Nyne Bass speaker and was looking to upgrade since its several years old. The Nyne X-Series definitely filled the bill. Its larger than my other speaker, has a nice rugged look to it, and I love the fact that its water resistant so we use it outside on our patio. The bottom line for me is sound, and this speaker produces tremendous sound. The highs and mids are outstanding and if you want it loud this one will deliver. But honestly I found the bass to be a bit lacking. The bass is there, but it doesn't really 'boom' like the Nyne Bass speaker does. Now if Nyne could just combine the two, they would have the perfect speaker. Overall, a great speaker with impressive sound and excellent volume.

Overall I am very happy with this speaker. It's pretty big and looks really cool. I was considering some rock shaped speakers for my back yard, but this is a great alternative. I have a fairly large back yard and the Nyne X series does a pretty good job of providing ample sound. I did notice some distortion above the 75% volume level though..mostly the bass sounded that way. BT pairing was very easy and being able to use NFC to pair is a nice feature. They advertise 100ft BT range but I was only able to move about 15 feet away from my speaker before it would cut out intermittently...something a firmware update might fix later on down the road, but I am not sure. I also tried this in my work van...full size Chevy express and it fits perfectly between the seats and sounds much better than the stock radio lol. The battery did last over two days and I am happy about that. There are probably better speakers out there if you are an audiophile, but for the everyday rugged family it works great.

This is a very loud bluetooth speaker, it seems to sound alot better to me if its used in my garage than outside. Whe n used in a na rea thats wide open its still loud but theres not a large bass response like there is in my garage. I've been using mine for a while, when plugged in you don't need to worry about the battery dieing on you. Haven't had to rely on battery only being in my garage but when i tried playing it outside it was just too much for my neighbors down the road. I like the sound profile of it and the all black look is really nice! Flat black look on the hard plastic parts is a nice touch.

Works and sounds great. Rechargeable battery life is great and it recharges quickly. Added bonus is that you can charge your cellphone or other usb device from the unit. Sounds great and plays loud but sound does get a little muddy when volume on the unit is turned up all the way. Unless you're trying to compete with a top end home stereo you won't be disappointed by this great bluetooth speaker.

This speaker has great features... recharge your mobile device while streaming music, Bluetooth works up to 100', weather resistance and international travel charger. The volume doesn't get as loud as I would like, but the sound is clear and virtually distortion free. Bass isn't as deep as I would like, but it isn't weak either. The quality of the speaker is pretty good, I broke the plastic door off on the back on the first day (pretty flimsy hinge). Bottom line, for the price...this is hard to beat.

I wanted a great sounding speaker for my patio. I have used the JBL Extreme before, but it is just too expensive to justify almost $500!!! After looking at all of the Bluetooth speakers on bestbuy.com and going to the store and listening to them, I decided on this one solely based on the reviews. They didn’t have a demo of it in store. This speaker is extremely loud and has an incredibly clean sound!! I was amazed! At this price, you get the sound of the JBL at 1/3rd of the price!! It’s even splash proof!!!

I actually bought this as a demo because they had no more in stock! When I demo’d it at the store, I HAD TO HAVE IT! It has so much dynamic range. It sounds great soft, but kicks when you crank it! The battery lasts forever, you can charge your phone on it and it’s easy to set up with your Bluetooth devices! I recommend it!

Great sound and good battery life. A little bulky but worth it for the bass.
