    Hifi Audio at Incredible Price

Believe the hype. These are simply awesome speakers for the price. Their musicality equals or excels many speakers in the $350 and up price range. In a blind test with two very good and highly rated bookshelf speakers, the Ascend Acoustics CBM-170 and the Axiom Audio M30v2, these held their own, even sounding better in certain areas. They have a beautiful, highly listenable neutral sound a bit on the warm side. They have to be the best or among the best bookshelf speakers sold in-store at Best Buy - and for the price, possibly some of the best speakers anywhere. The soundstage is a bit smaller than you'll find on some (not all higher priced Hifi bookshelf speakers - it was just a bit smaller than the Axioms - but they still have a perfectly good soundstage. Where they really shine is in the mid-range: eveyrthing from violin and piano through rock and folk vocals. The response is fast, the coloration basically neutral, with almost no reverb out of the box, so that the speakers essentially disappear. New sounds emerge on well recorded material, especially background vocalists, who acheived a clarity I'd never heard before on my Ascends or Axioms, both speakers I really love. These Pioneers avoid the pitfalls of so many $200 and under speakers: excessive highs and boomy bass. Instead, the Pioneers round off a bit on the very high end, casting a warm element to the tuning while avoiding the bright sibilance that plagues bargain, boom-box style audio. Despite the size of the enclosure and four-inch woofer, these deliver perfectly good, musical bass. The Axioms and Ascends both give a fuller spectrum with more bass, but they also cost around $400. The Pioneers don't seem to reach the claimed low end of 55 Hz, but they deliver enjoyable musical bass in a medium-sized room, and sound fantastic and full in a near-field listening situation. If I hadn't been listening to them side by side with the other speakers, I would have found the bass surprising, enjoyable, and more than enough. Also, there are plenty of mid-priced or low-priced speakers that may push it a bit lower on the bass end, but that will mess up in more egregious ways, with strident highs, big gaps in the mid-range, and nothing comprable to the overall smooth, neutral warmth of the Pioneers. These are probably best suited for music in a living room or smaller setting, as fronts or surround speakers in a Home Theater set up (fronts if you have a sub), or for near-field monitor listening. Paired with a digital t-amp, these would create the ultimate pc audio speaker, no sub needed. They are a great introduction to audiophile, hifi speakers - but they're more than that. These are so good, they will cause many listeners to rethink their $300-500 bookshelf speaker dreams.

My First Bookshelf Speakers, Starting Off Strong!

Wanted to make a serious upgrade from my soundbar, and after much research decided to make my own 3.0 stereo system (which grew into a 3.2 stereo system). Every review I read about this speaker and the rest of the line of Andrew Jones speakers said that these speakers would give you the most performance for your money. Several weeks ago I visited Best Buy and listened to this speaker in comparison to 3 other brands that were on display. The other 3 brands were more expensive, but the Pioneers more than held their own against them. I finally splurged on this, the Pioneer center speaker and 2 Pioneer subwoofers, along with a Denon receiver. Ever since, I've been enjoying wonderful sound while watching Blu-rays and television. I'm no audio expert, not yet, but I honestly do feel that my money couldn't have been better spent. Maybe other speakers can outperform this center speaker, and the other speakers in the Pioneer line, but you would have to spend quite a bit more just to top these. The quality of the speakers and the affordable price makes these a steal. Do yourself a favor, save your money and buy these and get more for your money that you did end up spending.

I just purchased the Pioneer SP-BS22LR bookshelf speakers. Right out of the box they sound fantastic. I am driving them with a 50 wpc class T amplifier and using them as my computer speakers. I did have some Sony bookshelf speakers filling that spot but they didn't sound all that great. These are a fantastic value for the price. I would have paid more for them but managed to grab them on sale so I saved a little. Buy these with confidence.

Impossible to beat for the money!

I was looking for speakers for my son to cart off to college - his money, so definitely was on a budget. Found a thread online that was discussing the first version of these speakers and how great they were. While reading that thread, someone posted that the new version had just been released. I headed to BB to listen to both (the new ones were not even hooked up yet - just were sitting on the shelf). The salesman kindly agreed to connec the new speakers, and we were able to listen to both, side by side. The originals were very good, but these new ones were just amazing. Tempted to buy another pair for my BF as it is such a good value! Highly recommend these speakers for solid mains.

These speakers are fantastic especially for the price. The lows are nice and heavy while the high end sounds clear and crisp. I mainly use these speakers to listen to vinyl records and I could not be happier.

I had sold my old Magneplanasr and my power amp because we are downsizing and they were 20 years old. I tried to listen to some KLH speakers that were spare for a bedroom system but, no clarity like I was used to hearing. I purchased from Best Buy a Yamaha RS300BL receiver but, the KLH's just didn't have it even with my REL sub woofer. I wanted to get something to tie me over until I could go all in on a pair of B & W 685S2's. The Pioneer's have been getting great reviews and for $129 for a pair not? I just hooked everything up tonight and threw rock, jazz and blues at them with the sub. Wow! These little speakers have a balanced sound and can play at a good level in a 14 x 18 room. Tight, clear and can go low enough for the sub to not take over the sound. You can't find anything at this price point that sounds like this. I can wait for the B & W's.

    Great for surround speakers

These speakers are great as part of a surround sound system. Just be aware that these are very large compared to most surround speakers in this price range. They're big enough where they almost look funny on my current stands with a 5" x 5" base. With that big size you get decent bass though. The tower speakers of this Pioneer set are far superior to these for front speakers but these are excellent for your surround speakers.

I did do a bit of research to find a quality, but cheaper starting pair of speakers for my new record player. This pair continuously came up and I have not be dissapointed. The sound is great and the size is perfect since I didn't want them to take up a lot of room. If you are on a busget but want great sound buy this pair to start out!

My wife and I occasionally want some music playing in the downstairs area of our house. These speakers work great for this. We are playing off a 15 year old amplifier and bluetoother stereo adapter from our phones. Works great.

I'm no sound expert, but I think these speakers sound great! I replaced a very old (and huge) pair of cerwin vegas that had started cutting out constantly. These speakers sound just as good as the cerwin vegas and look so much better! I do have to turn the volume up just a little more, but I am very happy with them

    Solid Performers

Started out with a pair of these as main speakers about six months ago in an attempt to add more dimension to an aging 5.0 speaker package. I was so impressed, that I have since upgraded my entire system to the second generation Andrew Jones line. I now have the BS22's acting as surrounds, and they perform great there as well. I would highly recommend these to anyone on a budget, as they are very versatile, and sound as good or better than anything in the same price range.

    Excellent budget speakers

This is absolutely amazing pair of speakers. At BB, they have these speakers out in the open area because they are considered "cheap" speakers. If you can, ask a Magnolia guy to bring them in for comparison. You will find that they fair better than some of the "high-end" speakers they have. Absolutely blows anything 2x their price range and then some! Their center is also amazing. I have a 3.1 setup with their matching sub. If you live in NYC, the setup will be good enough for regular apartment. Skip those tiny cubes (ie, bose, mirage...) unless you really really don't have room to put these speakers. Don't be fool by its dull looks, these speakers are made for sound.

Bought a pair of these but returned them after running a frequency test and found that the cabinets rattle at 230hz to 320hz. Found this to happen with two pairs of these speakers. Great imaging when listening to music. At first when using them in my larger living room I found I had to push them a little harder than they could handle. After moving them to a smaller room they really came alive and filled the room easily with sound. For music you can get by without a subwoofer but if you are looking to use them for movies I would recommend a subwoofer. Great little speaker for anyone looking to get into audio for a good price. They aren't very efficient speakers so make sure you have enough power behind them and give them time to break in to open up the sound.

I wanted to upgrade my center channel speakers (I use two) on my surround-sound system. I upgraded from some very small speakers to these Pioneer speakers. What an improvement and they fit into my TV stand perfectly. The sound is rich and crisp. I am glad I upgraded for I enjoy them with every movie I watch.

Use these as part of my Andrew Jones 7.1 setup for Pioneer! It sounds like you are right there in the middle of the action. Listening to records: amazing! Big summer blockbuster movies: forget about it! Even if I just had these two little babies for sound it would be lovely, but when thrown into the mix with the rest my home theater truly comes to vibrant life!

having recvd' these as a gift recently i was somewhat taken aback with the small size. They feel solid and have very good gold-plated binding posts. I replaced some big name speakers with these little gems in a 4.1 stereo@ 90/wpc.Right out of the box they sounded rich and provided more bottom than expected from a 4'' woofer. Silk dome tweeter was a bit harsh initially, however has loosened up after a week or so.**THESE need at least 60-100 hours to 'break-in' so dont be surprised if they sound a little harsh right away. Patience pays off as they now sound quite good-comparable to speakers in the 300-400$ range ! Really!. They can take a lot of power and will go pretty loud if thats what you want. A neutral signature with a very wide soundstage--very very IMPRESSIVE little gems!
