Customers are saying

Customers are pleased with the CS1311 120GB Internal SATA III Solid State Drive's performance, price, and ease of installation. Many appreciate the improved boot times and the transition to a solid-state drive. A common concern, however, was the limited storage capacity of the 120GB model. Some users wished they had opted for a larger capacity drive.

Loving My New and Fast PNY 120gb SSD!

I have to say I was hesitant in ordering another PNY product after having some real issues with some flash drives I've ordered from them recently. But for the great price of $39.99 for a 120gb SSD, I couldn't pass it up. And I'm glad I took a chance on this SSD because on my computer it is fast, especially for an entry level SSD. And it's not until I started using an SSD on an everyday basis that I began to realize how slow a regular HDD is in comparison. Everything that's on the SSD like your OS, programs and apps open up instantly and the boot/shut down times are unreal. Now for me, a 120gb SSD is more than enough for my needs since I'm not a serious gamer and I really just wanted to put my OS and most of the programs I use on a regular basis on it and maybe the occasional game or two that I may be playing at the moment. But, with that said, here's some advice that might help you make up your mind if you're considering between a 120gb or a 240gb SSD. My 120gb came with 105gb and of that 98gb was usable and my Windows 10 Home 64bit OS took up 29gb, plus another 10gb for Photoshop, Firefox, Chrome, antivirus, anti malware, etc. So when I got done putting everything I wanted on my SSD I have 60gb free space out of the 98gb usable space. Another thing I want to add is that I did a FRESH INSTALL of Windows 10 on the SSD using a USB recovery drive which was so simple to do that the entire process including Windows reinstalling itself took me maybe 30/40 minutes and the SSD was good to go with ABSOLUTELY NO PROBLEMS at all. Also, the SSD made all the recovery partitions just like my original HDD that came with my computer. Here's the steps I used to install my SSD with Windows 10 and it couldn't have gone any smoother: 1. Disconnect the POWER and SATA cables of any drives in your computer. 2. Install the SSD and let it boot up. After that reboot and go into your BIOS and change the "SATA" setting to AHCI. Then reboot. 3. Now you will either use recovery discs or a USB recovery drive to boot into the SSD and install your OS. 4. After the install of your OS is finished go back into your BIOS and change the boot order (if your are using more than one HDD/SDD) so that you make the SSD with your OS the first in line so your computer knows that's where you want to boot from. After that, your are done my friend and you can start enjoying your new speedy SSD.

Super simple to install or have Geek Squad put it in your old computer, you won't believe how fast your computer will start up with solid state drive. Have ZERO issues. Computer turns on and boots within a second or two to Windows screen. No reason to NOT get this and dump the old optical hard drive. NO BRAINER! DO IT!

The PNY brands offer great performance and excellent price. Don't overlook this brand. The smaller size drives in particular are great for speeding up older computers you may have dismissed as too slow. Easy to install and well worth the money,

The best upgrade for any pc. SSD has a read and write speed of greater than 500+MEG. PC boot up time has been reduced to one third of normal bootup time. SSD came with downloadeble cloning software which makes instalation a simpler process.

I purchased this drive because the OEM in my HP X360 died. I replaced it with this one and wow! It literally would take approximately 15 seconds to boot Win 8.1 before, but now it's just 3 seconds at most. Everything loads runs so much faster. Sure I spent the same amount of $ so I now have less storage, but I really didn't need it so not much sacrifice for speed and reliability. Well worth it.

I have purchased over 50 of these drives. They are excellent drives to renew an old laptop or desktop, speed up the OS/programs opening, reduce reliance on RAM, minimize sound and heat, and use less power on laptops. I have yet to have a problem with even one of these drives and they run very fast with only a 5% margin of error on detailed specs according to Crystaldisk. Overall, highly recommended.

I was in a pinch for a new SSD and was pleasantly surprised to find this HDD at Best Buy for a lower price than Amazon/NewEgg. I recommend this as a great upgrade to spinning disks. If you want to squeeze out the extra speed and have SATA III 6GB/s connectors, check out to the Samsung Evo 850. BestBuy has continuously had the best pricing on the Evos.

Works great. Fast as expected. 120GB seems small but when you take a look at the space that a casual user is really using, you realize only 50-80GB are being used by someone who only uses a PC to check email and surf the web. Unless you're taking a ton of pictures or video, or have a lot of music, the 1TB drives in most laptops are just a wow factor to sell you the laptop. I have two of these, one in a laptop and another in desktop PC. It makes a great boot drive in a desktop where you can add a cheap 1TB (or higher) mechanical hard drive for storing Steam games.

For USD39, this is an extremely reasonable purchase. I was building another desktop, and I wanted Windows to run from a solid-state drive, and this is perfect for it. They will be only a few other programs running, so I don't need a very large booting hard drive. Of course the data goes on drive D, which is an internal drive and it is a two terabyte regular hard drive. It works well enough for me and Windows 10 starts up and shuts down quickly. The package is minimal. There is no cable or screw of any kind that came with it. I did not expect it and it was fine with me. So if you need one with accessories (bracket, screws and cable), it will have to be bought separately.

This is a great value, low budget option to load your operating system onto to make your basic computer much faster. I got a 120 GB drive for my son's operating system and another 480 GB PNY drive for his games. This will give a great performance boost to his entire system.

I picked up yet another one of these drives to replace an aging drive in a laptop. My requirements were: CHEAP, enough storage for the laptops purpose. This drive met those requirements. I have used this brand in a few projects successfully now over the past few years. One device is one where the end user just pulls the plug on the machine when they are done with it, so the drive takes a bit of abuse, yet it keeps on ticking. Plenty fast enough for the system it went in to and plenty fast enough for a majority of systems out there.

I used this to place into a work laptop that was sluggish like you would not believe, I did not need a lot of storage, just for office docs and light media consumption online. With this, the laptop which was 4 years old felt like it was brand new! Battery life also improved by an extra 30 minutes (your mileage may vary). My only complaint is that it did not come with any software to migrate the old drive, you can find them online but its always easier to get one from the maker of the SSD too.

For only USD39, this is quite inexpensive for what it is. I do not need a large hard drive for drive C to run Windows 10 because I am only running a few programs on this new desktop. It starts up very quickly, and it shuts down quickly, as well. This hard drive you need to know that comes with minimum hardware. No screw, no cable, no holder nor adapter of any kind. It really is a good replacement for a laptop hard drive because all you need to do is just slip it in and out.

Great little SSD for speeding up your system. Besides the great value and performance it comes with a license for Acronis True Image to be able to transfer your OS to the new drive without having to do a full reinstall of everything. (you will need to be able to hook up both drives at the same time to do this-meaning for a laptop you will need to have a USB to SATA adapter and power supply to run the drive and plug into the laptop (fairly cheap and easy to find).

Bought this SSD to install on my kids desktop to bring him up to date with speed. This is a good solution for someone who's looking to get a good speedy upgrade and not spend a lot of money. I use a second HDD for all my kids files/games. By setting default folders to the HDD and it works great. Their pc boots up super fast and runs so much smoother. I also loved that Best buy price matches. I buy from them because of this and I'm able to pick up same day.

I purchased the 120GB PNY SSD as an additional drive in my laptop. I was impressed by the performance of this drive, but it shouldn't be surprising honestly as this will beat any traditional hard drive in terms of performance. If you're looking for a cheap upgrade to your laptop, I wouldn't look any further. Just make sure you buy a model that will hold all your pictures as well as the Operating System (Windows, Mac, etc).
