This is best game of 2017, no question. There are not many games that receive perfect scores from critics, but BOTW pulled it off. Nintendo clearly went back to the drawing board for this game. First of all, this game is by no means easy. You will die. A lot. Dark Souls- a lot. You have to posses the right gear to take on high level enemies, and because this is an open world game, it is very easy to stumble upon an enemy that you are not prepared for. Good luck taking on that Guardian with that Rusty Broadsword there. Need some health? Get to cooking. There is no "let me just cut this bush and grab a heart." No sir. You have to haul yourself up a tree and grab some apples, launch an arrow at a boar, and maybe even try your luck by grabbing that bee hive for extra excitement. The more complex you make your meal, the more health or stat buff you will receive. The characters feel alive in BOTW. Their dialogue can change based on your actions (get off of that table!), or what you're wearing , or not wearing(they don't like a naked Link). The world is filled with new and interesting characters and even one that looks suspiciously like Robin Williams. The enemies feel well designed, and the shrines offer a quick but sometimes complex puzzle that will leave you feeling excited to locate the next one. I could go on and on, but Hyrule needs me. This a must buy for any Zelda fan, and really anyone who considers themselves a gamer.

I'll start by saying I haven't been a huge Nintendo fan in years but got sucked into the hype for the switch and this game in particular. I took a leap of faith based on reviews and bought a switch just for this game! Do not regret at all. This game is going to go down as one of, if not THE, greatest games of all time! There is so much to do and when I tell myself I'm going to put it down after I clear this last shrine, I turn the corner and get sucked into other adventures for hours! Incredible game

This game is everything I could ask for in a Zelda game. I always thought "wow what would Zelda be like if it was open world like Skyrim or similar". Here is your answer. As a heavy Xbox user I was skeptical giving the Switch a shot for Zelda, but I have not touched my Xbox since this game came out. I have been playing for seemingly forever and I have yet to uncover the entire map, only have about 50/120 shrines finished, sitting at about 17% overall completion. I jumped ahead and "beat" the game and immediately went right back to doing quests and exploring. And those little Kurok guys, there's like 900 of them and I think I've come across maybe 40 so far? So many things to do it is insane. My few minor gripes are lack of enemy and boss variety. I would've loved to have seen some more classic enemies and the bosses all look the same and aren't as cool as previous games. The weapons breaking is manageable but there should be special weapons that do not break considering what you have to do to earn them (master sword, Hyrulian shield, etc). Also there is really only 4 main "dungeons" and they don't really have that feel of older Zelda dungeons (get a key, find map and compass, find special item) and really lack any enemies. Apparently they left the special items out and give you what you need in the tutorial so you can go anywhere at any time (try heading straight to the castle, have fun). Overall a true masterpiece and I hope more Nintendo made games are the same.

No the title is not Hyperbole, I'm a huge Legend of Zelda fan, I've been playing since I was a wee lad on the original NES and I have loved just about every one of them. I've had a lot of fun with this game with almost no complaints. Probably my only real complaint would be the breakable weapons. They're just a bit too easy to break, if they were more durable I wouldn't mind it as much. Overall it's a fun game that lets you explore and go at your own pace. If you're a Zelda fan this is a must for you.

My literal favorite game of all time. I’m sure you’ve heard dozens of people go on and on about this game by now, but it really is phenomenal. If you like open world games, this is the definitive open world game. We all know the switch is underpowered so if you have the opportunity to play this on pc, do it. Legally of course ;)

It's difficult to explain the depth and care that seems to have gone into this game from Nintendo. I remember being annoyed waiting so long for it after it was announced, but clearly they were justified in taking their time to get everything right. I find myself just wandering around the world with no particular aim than just exploring for hours. It feels as revolutionary as the first time I played Ocarina of Time. It was worth the price of the entire Switch system just to be able to play this game.

Botw shakes up the linear Zelda experience by introducing a massive open world which you are free to complete objectives any way you want. The way you want. There's no hand holding in this game. You are free to roam and discover secrets at your own leisure with no restraints. I've sank easily over 200 hrs into this game and it's by far my favorite Zelda game...if not overall videogame! Ever. A must play for every switch owner. A definitive system seller!

This game is unbelievable. Looks great, feels great, and there is a ton of things to do. Every time I play it, i get surprised by something else I can do or something I find. The sheer size of the world and the detail in it is just unbelievable to me. I don't play a lot of video games, but I honestly get very excited for every chance I have to play this game. I never want to put it down. I now understand why everyone said "If you own a Switch, you need to get Breath of the Wild."

Zelda has always been so formulaic. I would just get it out of habit to support the franchise but I've always been longing for a refresh and this excelled. It has a nice casual gamer feel to the concept by changing the level up and dungeon process to have shrines throughout the map. And I really just loved exploring, you can get lost in it for hours. The graphics have never looked better.

This is a straight up fantastic game. The story line feels new and there are plenty of quests and side quests to keep you occupied indefinitely (or so it feels). The game play is rooted in reality (such as weapons breaking, abilities affected by weather, having to build trust with your horse, etc) which makes for a more challenging and thought provoking experience. Add to that the simply beautiful graphics and you have a winning game.

This is such a fun game. Hard to believe it’s a launch title! The gameplay is nice, the open world takes a little getting used to because there is so much to explore and skills to master. It’s easy to get wrapped up in this game for hours.

I had my reservations going into this game since reviewers generally praise all of the Zelda games which I have found some of them to be chore. This game got a TON of glowing reviews but I still remained skeptical. With that said, this game is AMAZING. It shattered all my expectations and has taken over as my favorite Zelda game, possibly favorite game of all time. The sense of exploration is wonderful and cannot be put into words. This is something to be experienced.

You can read this review or you can google the massive number of online reviews. This is one of THE best zelda games in a while, although the titles in between have been good. This title is clearly why you want a switch. It's a deep game; rich in story and gameplay. I highly recommending the Pro Controller when playing this zelda game. It will take away many frustrating issues with the joy-cons.

This game caused a stir right when it came out and it still holds up very well. The open world aspect in a Zelda game has never been done before and the world is yours. Very fun and one of the best games out for the Switch! Switch owners have to buy and play this one

I've been a Zelda fan since The Legend of Zelda, and Breath of the Wild is absolutely a contender for best in the series. It's blast to play, there is a ton to do and see. The visuals are breathtaking (you'll find yourself stopping and staring into the distance to appreciate how stunning the game is), and the open world style gives you hours of things to do. It's easy to get sidetracked from being sidetracked. I'm about 50 hours in and only about halfway through. This game is the real deal.

I am somewhat conflicted on this game. On one hand, it looks amazing on the Switch, the map is massive, and I appreciate being able to go at my own pace. I like being able to search for shrines (health/stamina upgrades) and different armors that will help me take on the dungeons and bosses. On the other hand, the weapons constantly breaking is an annoyance. It does require some strategy to decide which weapon you want to use and possibly lose/break and which ones you want to hold on to as long as you can. Like past games, things get a little more complicated as you progress and the weapons get bigger and stronger. It is a deviation from the last version I played on the N64 but I've enjoyed it and so have the kids (10 and 7).

This is not your average Zelda game, and that is a high complement! When they say "open world" they MEAN it. I've been playing for over a week and I've still not uncovered half of the map. It's challenging, but not to the point of frustration. Playing on the Switch is truly how this is meant to be played bc of the motion control puzzles, but also the versatility. It looks amazing on the TV in full HD, and also great on the small screen. I can't recommend this game enough, it is fantastic.

This is definitely one of the better Zelda games released in some time. Pros -Open world sandbox feel -Beautiful graphics that really flesh out the world -Controls are easy to use and easy to learn -Easy to play on either TV mode or on the tablet -Game saves automatically and you can also manually save Cons -Weapons break in like 5 hits, very annoying and requires you to constantly gather weapons -Some of the monsters are a bit goofy looking, a little over the top.
