I fell in love with the game mere minutes after starting the campaign. It blends old and new perfectly, and proves third person over the shoulder can still provide all the scares a first person or fixed camera angle game can and more. Gunplay is responsive, ammo is scarce, and zombies are scary again.

I've played the original Re2 before and ever since I started playing Re2 Remake I haven't stopped to play my other games. So far I've been playing Assissted and Standard for S+ Ranks and soon going for Hardcore S+ ranks.

WOW. That one word describes how I felt from beginning to end.
Remakes and re-releases aren't anything new. For the most part, they receive a slight bump in visuals through resolution and lighting, and may see some different game play elements to help it acclimate players who are used to current/modern games.
Resident Evil 2 originally released on the PS1. It was considered one of the best games of its generation. Now, it is once again considered one of the best releases.
The visuals were built from the ground up. This is probably one of the best looking PS4 games currently. The lighting help establish the atmosphere. The camera angle and visuals both work together in giving you that dread of not knowing what lurks around the next corner.
The sound and music also play a pivotal role in making you feel uneasy going from area to area in the game.
The controls were changed from the original. The game now flows in a third person perspective. The controls are responsive and accurate.
The story allows you to play through as both of the protagonists in the story. This allows for fun replays and challenges. I think I have beat both Leon's and Claire's play throughs as least 3 times each to try and gain the highest rank.
The developers at Capcom have shown other studios the blueprint for making amazing remakes. I hope other companies follow suit and allow new generation of gamers to experience great games from the past.
All in all, game of the year for me.

First of all, this IS RESIDENT EVIL!! Naugh said!!
Secondly, for those who are wondering if this holds up compared to the original, let me say that this surpasses the original (in many ways). Overall, game play is very good and very generous. Three different modes (similar to the 64 version) and very meaty. I've been pleased with the gameplay and it does get very challenging, especially when engaging with the enemies. Unlike the original RE2, you just can't shot the enemies and be happy. Here, you must plan, learn, and conserve your ammo and items in order to survive. Plus, you have some additional features that were not in the original one, which some of them add new challenges to the way you play. I bought the Deluxe Version, which includes some costumes and a couple of extra weapons for both Leon and Claire. Also included the DX is the option to swap out the music with the original soundtrack in some places (haven't done it yet). As of this review, I'm currently still playing through the game on the second run (equivalent to the B" scenario play through from the original) and it's going very well. This is a solid game that even hardcore RE fans should get; it's the best in graphics and sound and gameplay. Take my advice, worth the money to keep you busy for a long while. Enjoy it and have a blast!!!

Outstanding Remake for Newcomers and Long-time fan

This was a PERFECT remake of the classic PS1 original. The controls and visuals are updated to modern standards yet the game's core story, survival horror mechanics and puzzles are all left intact and in some ways improved upon. Newcomers will likely want to play on Standard difficulty, but long-time veterans will want to play on Hardcore difficult as it brings back the iconic ink ribbons which are needed to save your game, so no auto-saves or infinite saving here. It is classic Survival Horror reimagined for today's generation! There are also two different playable characters with 2 different campaigns to experience the full story! Additional unlockable costumes and modes are offered upon completion and FREE DLC is on its way to top off this package.

I had a very difficult time putting this one down once I started. This remake successfully blends the terrifying, stressful, and yet oh so rewarding gameplay of the classic Resident Evil titles with the modern 3rd person shooter theme seen in 4-6.
Visuals and audio are both spot on, delivering a tense atmosphere that sucks you right in. Ammo is scarce, and inventory management will keep you strategizing throughout.
The general story is in tact, but they've tweaked and added enough to keep things interesting for players of the original.
Replayability is high, with numerous rewards and extra game modes available to unlock.
Capcom has hit the sweet spot with this one. If the future of the series holds true to this, or 7's formula, I'll happily keep coming back for more scares.

Resident Evil 2 is one of my top 5 games of all time but it's hard to play those early PlayStation games due to aging of technology (long loads, rough pixelated graphics, bad controls, etc.). This remake not only brings modern graphics, controls, and voice acting (nostalgia tells me this is less important) but also tells the story a little differently. You still get separated and find your way to the RCPD but there's more new stuff and the truck that separates you plays a bit different. The game is gorgeous and scary and all the classic survival horror that comes with the name Resident Evil.
I highly recommend this game, it's amazing (although I'm still playing and haven't beat it yet).

This is now Capcom's second home run in a row (with RE7 being the first) after a long drought of the once-acclaimed franchise losing its soul. The RE2 remake is a triumph: It looks incredible, has solid controls and handles well, and maybe most importantly....it's terrifying. I've already beaten it once (on Hardcore mode, which is a legitimate challenge even for veterans) and am on my second playthrough, and I still jump, squeal like a pig, etc. when erratic zombie & monster behavior threatens me.
This game will be a home run for you, too, whether it's your first rodeo with this esteemed title or you're trying to recapture the magic from over 20 years ago.

Resident Evil 2 on Playstation 4, which is a remake of Resident Evil 2 on the original Sony Playstation, is a fantastic upgrade in visuals, controls, lighting and sound. Very tense the entire time. As a huge fan of the original game, I enjoyed this very much, but I still prefer the original for some reasons. There are not enough differences between Route A and Route B. They are nearly identical aside from some things at the very beginning and end. I do miss some of the enemies that are in the original game and not in the remake as well. Despite it's faults, it is a fantastic game and I very much enjoyed my time with it.

Resident Evil 2 was the first game in the series I ever completed and have such fond memories of my playthroughs back in the day. I stayed away from as much news, videos, and articles ever since it was announced in order to have a completely fresh experience on release. It was definitely worth the wait!
The visuals are AMAZING. The sound is TERRIFYING. The gameplay is a mix of classic RE2 suspense and survival with RE: Revalations' (and also RE6) 3rd person over-the-shoulder style shooting. You are able to MOVE while shooting (which was first possible in the Outbreak Series, but I reference RE: Revalations and RE6 since these two had the new camera perspective) but it comes at the cost of accuracy.
The game isn't exactly a remake. I feel it's more of a re-imagining and I love it. It plays with your expectations in terms of enemy placement, item location, and map layout compared to the 1998 release.
The "A" and "B" Scenarios are here as well. So far I've completed Leon's "A" scenario and Claire's "B" scenario in order to get the "True Ending." You do go through most of the same locations, but the experiences are different. ***SMALL SPOILERS AHEAD*** For example, in Claire's B scenario, the Main Hall area at the Police Station is no longer a safe area with a Typewriter and Storage Box. Enemy placement is also different such as the first Licker encounter. I am currently playing through Claire's Scenario A and will then move on the Leon's Scenario B.
There are three Modes to choose from at the start of a Story: Assisted, Normal, and Hardcore. Assisted mode makes the game easier in three ways: it adds Aim Assist, makes enemies weaker, and allows automatic health recovery to a certain amount. Normal mode doesn't have any player advantages or disadvantages aside from the games Autosave function being present. Hardcore mode is similar to how Classic RE2 played. Enemies are harder, there are no Autosaves, and Ink Ribbons are required to save your progress.
There are tons of unlockables too. Things like concept art and character models. These are unlocked through in game actions and it was always a cool surprise whenever I loaded up the game again to see I unlocked things.
I would definitely recommend buying this game to RE fans and newcomers to the series. The campaign isn't as long as most recent titles (only because it feels as though all recent titles have been Open World games and this one is more Linear). I played through both stories in a little over 8 hours each for a total playtime of 16hrs. I can see later playthroughs being shorter after I start to memorize puzzle solutions and item locations though. Still, the experience is awesome!

This game is one of the best remakes ever made. The only other contender’s for this title are demon’s souls remake and shadow of the colossus remake. There is pretty much nothing wrong with this game. The graphics are amazing, the story is great, the gameplay is phenomenal, the voice acting is good, etc. My only problem would be them not including all the content from the original.

Horror Reimagined

The Resident Evil 2 remake sees the series making a proper return to form. While Resident Evil 7 showed brought the series back to its survival-horror roots, the remake of the 1998 PS1 classic sees the franchise making a full return to what made it one of the most-defining series in the genre. Once more, players step into the shoes of Claire Redfield and Leon Kennedy, guiding the pair through different scenarios as they attempt to escape the devastated Raccoon City. With heart-stopping sound and audio that keeps the tension high, darkened corridors slick with blood and gore, and hordes of zombies that won't be easily downed by a few blows to the head, players will have to truly test their survival skills as they manage inventory and resources in their adventures. There are also tons of extras in the forms of unlockable scenarios with their own challenges, as well as a free downloadable campaign that will be updated through the year, the horror doesn't end with just Leon and Claire.

Resident Evil 2 remake brings a modern take on a classic survival. There are plenty of changes throughout the game but for the most part, the core of the story stays the same. The graphics and sound design are both incredible! I definitely recommend wearing a good pair of headphones when you play. The game is balanced really well and keeps you feeling the tension of being low on items but never actually running out, usually.
I honestly don't have much to complain about. The only thing is, sometimes the character models looked a bit weird. Other than that, I never experienced any bugs or frame drops.
Overall, I really enjoyed Resident Evil 2 remake. The nostalgia that came with experiencing the horror of Raccoon City again was very satisfying. I recommend this game to any survival horror fan or fan of the Resident Evil series in general. 5 out of 5 stars

Capcom did a great job at remaking their classic game. The graphics look great and controls are solid. The sound in this game is incredible. Every step, creak, growl, etc. is heard and gives you chills. My only complaint is that the zombies are bullet sponges.

No I'm not actually kidding. The Resident Evil 2 Remake managed to do something that many games out there fail to do and that's meld together both classic and modern horror into one package. A game that ushers in a whole new generation to see what the big deal was about Resident Evil 2 for many of us (Like myself) that played it back in the day. All the while not straying so far away from what made the original so successful and special and familiar.
From the controls, to the graphics, to the additions it is all top tier in virtually every single way imaginable. I do recommend you get the original soundtrack DLC and activate it. The new music while good doesn't manage to capture the mood and atmosphere of the OG soundtrack.
Play this game over and over, trust me it's well worth it.
