The Must have Smart Doorbell for your Smart Home

Ring Battery Doorbell Pro Smart Wi-Fi Video Doorbell with Head-to-Toe HD+ Video As someone who rents and recently has had some packages stolen, I felt now is the best time to get the new Ring Pro Doorbell. Design and Installation: First impressions of the Ring Doorbell Pro is that it has not changed much from the previous models but still has that modern sleek look. Due to myself renting, my landlord doesn't allow me to screw into the door or the door frame, so I had to order a 3rd party door adapter. That being said, it does come with all the needed things to install your door or door frame, along with a wedge mount to give you a better viewing angle. The package includes all necessary tools and instructions, making the setup process hassle-free even for those with minimal technical expertise and since its battery charged not having to worry about hiring an electrician to install it. The standout feature of this doorbell is undoubtedly its Head-to-Toe HD+ video capability. The resolution comes in at 1536 x 1536 which offers good clarity and detail. Not only can I see the faces of visitors at my door with remarkable clarity, but I can also view their entire body from head to toe. The person detection is great and I will get a notification sent to my phone when someone walks by or when they ring the doorbell. In the Ring App you can rotate your phone to the side and then move the camera up or down to get a better view to see if you have a package at your doorstep or if someone is trying to be sneaky. This level of detail provides invaluable real time information for identifying individuals and enhancing the overall security of your home. There are also several settings you can turn on in the app such as HDR for even better clarity, and several different options for night vision mode. I'm impressed by the battery life of the 2024 Ring Battery Doorbell Pro. After about 2 weeks of usage there is about 90% battery so it should last about 3 months on a single charge. I do recommend getting a second battery so there is no down time when having to charge the battery. Recharging the battery is a straightforward process, just use the Ring star-bit screwdriver provided in the box and unscrew it, then unclip the faceplate and press the release clip to remove the battery. My only complaint with the battery is that they are still using micro-USB to charge the battery and haven't upgraded it to USB-C. This is a minor complaint but it's just another charging cable you will have to keep up with. The integration with the Ring app is seamless and intuitive. I can easily access live footage, review past recordings in the timeline, and customize settings to suit my preferences. The app's user-friendly interface enhances the overall user experience, allowing for effortless navigation and control. Whether I'm at home or away, I can stay connected to my doorstep and respond to visitors promptly, enhancing security and convenience. You can also set up a perimeter for how far you want the camera to detect motion and people walking by. The integration with Alexa is also great in that when the doorbell is rung it will play the chime through all my ALexa smart speakers in my place, and with my Alexa Show it will pull up the live camera feed. If you have an Alexa. The two-way talk functionality of the Ring Battery Doorbell Pro is a great feature. It enables clear and seamless communication with visitors, delivery personnel, or potential intruders. Overall, the Ring Battery Doorbell Pro sets a new standard for smart video doorbells. With its Head-to-Toe HD+ video capability, easy installation, long battery life, seamless app integration with Alexa, and two-way talk functionality, it offers unmatched performance, convenience, and security. I definitely recommend it to anyone seeking to enhance the security of their home with a reliable and feature-rich video doorbell solution, that gives you that peace of mind at the end of the day.

I've used a Ring doorbell for several years now. This is my second, but it is my first that runs on battery power. This new model has improved in some ways, but also has some limitations compared to its wired counterparts. Pros: - Set up was extremely easy. All I had to do was charge up the battery (this took 3-4 hours), then install the battery, pull up the app, and follow the step by step directions to add a new device. A QR code in the included paperwork needs to be scanned and then you are up and running before you know it. The mounting portion of the install will take longer than connecting the device to your home WiFi. - The field of view is very impressive on the camera. It feels like you can almost see a full 180 degree range. This helps you be able to see a much larger area of your porch/yard/driveway/etc. - The battery is simple to remove for charging and just as easy to re-install. - You can extend battery life by tweaking the settings easily in the app. Cons: - Since this is a battery powered doorbell, it will not wire to any pre-installed doorbell chimes that you may have in your home. So be prepared to get used to doorbell rings just coming up on the phones that you install the app to. For many people this won't be an issue, but if you have family members in the home without the app, they won't know if someone is ringing the doorbell. - Charging of the battery takes a few hours. As long as you plan the timing (late evenings) you shouldn't miss any packages or visitors. But the battery charges with older USB technology instead of the latest USB-C that most current devices have adapted. - While they give you a free trial, in order to save and view recorded content at a later time you need to pay for a subscription once the trial ends. I have security cameras that provide this service for free. I wish that Ring would do the same, even if they limited the number of videos or the duration of time that they would save them for. Without this subscription, unless you watch it live, you'll not be able to see who or what came to your door. I'm a fan of the Ring products and will continue to use them. But I will also continue to look for other options that don't require a subscription in order to see who was at my door 10 minutes prior if I missed a notification.

      Hi jsisko76.

At Ring, we appreciate you taking the time to share your feedback with us. We are glad to read that you are enjoying your new Ring Battery Doorbell Pro! Furthermore, we believe in keeping people close to what’s important. That is why we are driven to create products that help you protect what matters most at home and empower you to connect with your visitors from wherever you are. Together, we’ll make neighborhoods safer!

Your battery doorbell can be hardwired to work with your home's existing chime. Before you start installing your doorbell, turn off power at the consumer unit. If you're not sure which switch controls your doorbell, turn off your home's main switch or contact an electrician.Once power is turned off, remove your existing doorbell button from the wall and disconnect the wires. Your Ring doorbell is compatible with doorbell systems supplying 8 to 24 VAC at 50/60Hz, 5VA to 40VA.

For your safety, only use an existing doorbell transformer within the range specified above or DIN Rail Transformer (24Vdc, 420mA) to power your device.

Using incompatible power sources can damage your device and cause electric shock.

CAUTION! You'll be working with electrical wires during the install process. If you are uncomfortable or inexperienced with doing so, consult with a licensed electrician. Do not wire your Ring doorbell to a DC-powered intercom system.

Optional: Install the corner mount. Then, install your doorbell on the corner mount.
If installing on a wood surface, screw the bracket directly into the wall.

If installing on a masonry surface, mark two screw holes using the bracket as a guide:

Drill pilot holes using a 0.25 in (6 mm) drill bit. Insert the wall anchors from Bag C, then drive the medium bracket screws through the bracket into the wall anchors.
Pull your home's existing wires through the center of the corner mount before installing on the wall.
Loop each doorbell wire around the screw terminals on the back of the doorbell, then tighten to secure. It doesn't matter which wire connects to which screw.
If the wires are too short to reach the doorbell, use the wire extenders with the wire nuts found in Bag D.
At the end, feed all the wires (and wire nuts and extenders if used) back into your wall.
Use the short bracket screws from Bag C to secure your doorbell to the bracket.

Big Upgrade Over Ring Doorbell Pro v1

Ring is an Amazon brand you can trust when it comes to top notch support, performance and commitment. I wish I could say the same for all of Amazon’s products but they’ve abandoned support for more than a few products I’ve bought from them including early Echo Show, Cloud Cam, and Glow. Their Blink cams are also subpar. But enough griping about Ring, because I do love all of my Ring products and even my earlier products are still supported and I keep adding to my Ring system. I do subscribe to the Protect Plus plan for roughly $10/mo and it’s been well worth it because the price is the same no matter how many devices and cameras you have, and it also offers some additional features, 10% off and extended warranty. The Battery Doorbell Pro is a pretty big upgrade for me over my Ring Doorbell Pro wired gen1. Here’s a quick rundown. - Square picture which allows you to see head to toe and packages on your patio. Better resolution picture also helps capture clearer images. - Birds Eye view and house property map allows for better virtualization of movement and tracking around your house. This also helps you set motion zones. - Battery is quick swappable and allows direct plugin with no additional chargers. A micro-usb cable is included. - Also has hardwire support. This is interesting because it doesn’t mean you can operate without a battery, and it also doesn’t seem to charge the battery and keep it topped off at 100% when not using power. It just seems to supplement the battery so that it doesn’t drain so quickly. After about 5 days of usage, while hardwired, my battery shows 89%. I can’t say if the hardwire helps responsiveness at all, but when I got my Doorbell Pro that was a big advantage over the battery units, faster responsiveness because the doorbell was already powered on. My transformer is only 20A so I am wondering if the 30A unit will keep it charged longer, but I will have to keep an eye on this. Some things I didn’t love about the Battery Doorbell Pro are as follows: - Battery Doorbell Pro is a lot wider than my old Wired Pro, which is understandable because of the battery. Overall the unit doesn’t look that great and Ring needs a facelift on all their doorbell products in both style and shape. - theres a lot fewer bells and whistles with this unit compared to the Wired Pro I bought years ago. Just 1 color face plate and it’s boring silver and black. It’s also plastic and my old Pro Wired faceplate actually cracked as well as the plastic over the camera. There’s also just 1 angled mount bracket, pretty sure my Wired pro had a front facing one too. I will see how often I have to charge the battery even in hardwired mode. If it’s more than 1-2x a year I may have to just get the Wired Pro v2 which will also fit my door spot better. Overall this is a nice upgrade for me though especially with the image quality and head to toe camera.

    Better view and alerting

Previously I had Ring Doorbell 2 and the picture quality was not good and in the night, hardly I could see who is ringing. Bought Ring Doorbell Pro and difference in the picture quality has been very huge, now I can clearly see who is approaching and who is ringing the bell. Moreover, the head to toe view is very nice. Feeling more secure after getting this. Now, I get alerts for someone moving the area of view defined, previously that feature was not even working with Ring Doorbell 2.

The Ring Battery Doorbell Pro has been a great addition to my home, but like anything, it has its issues. First of all, the installation was easy for me since I just had to drill it into a wooden post. The Ring doorbell was securely fastened with just a few screws, and that was it. After downloading the app, the installation and connectivity were smooth, and I did not encounter any issues. I have a lot of devices connected to my internet, and despite that, the Ring doorbell is still holding pretty strong with the Wi-Fi. The app is easy to use and straightforward. The Ring doorbell comes with a 30-day free trial that activates as soon as you install the doorbell. I really like all the features it has, like SOS, which enables you to request an ambulance or the police with a simple tap. The Neighbor Watch alerts you of anything going on around the neighborhood (mine has a lot of lost dogs!). You also get instant alerts if someone is at the door and all the perks that come with the paid subscription. Now, since the free trial activated automatically, I'm not sure how it's going to work without it. I read on the Ring website that if you don't have a subscription, it will only give you real-time footage, and you won't be able to save any videos. For the price of this doorbell, I really wish it would at least give you access to the recordings for more time. I'm not sure if I want to pay a fee every month. Another downside is that this doorbell does not come with a chime. So, if your phone or whatever device this doorbell is connected to is off, then you won't get notifications if someone is at the door. That means that you'll have to spend another $60 bucks for the chime. However, the images and recordings are very good and accurate. The option for quick replies is useful, and so is the option for someone to leave you a message( message option available with paid subscription)"Although the product is exceptional in quality, it could benefit from offering more free options. This would allow users to fully experience and appreciate the product's features without committing to a purchase.

      Hi Ivette0930

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us.

We understand the importance of having all relevant product information prior to purchasing. Being alerted to motion and ring alerts from your Ring Battery Doorbell Pro is an important aspect of the device. In addition, being able to save, download, and review footage captured by your Ring device is a valuable feature of the Ring Protect Plan. We can definitely provide you with more information regarding the concerns mentioned in your review.

In addition to notifying your mobile device, the Ring Battery Doorbell Pro can be connected to various other devices to notify you of visitors at your door. It can be hardwired to an existing doorbell system with a transformer rated at 8 to 24 VAC, 50/60 Hz, and 5 VA to 40 VA. It can also be connected to a Ring Chime or a compatible Alexa-enabled device. Visit our support center for more details.

It sounds like there is some confusion regarding the optional Ring Protect plans. Ring Protect is a subscription that gives you access to paid features for your Ring device. With a Ring Protect Plan, you can save, review, and share video recordings from your Ring devices to your Ring account.

Without a Ring Protect Plan, you can still view real-time video for Ring doorbells and cameras and answer doorbell notifications when they happen, but you don’t get video recordings of those events. Visit our support center for more information.

My Experience: Installation was a little tricky, long story short, I was forced to use the corner wedge just to make room for the wire extenders from my existing doorbell. It was just way too tricky to get the wires hooked on the back of the doorbell and tightened and keep it all flush looking without some serious changes to my setup. Once it was installed.... I was very happy with it. It does everything I want it to and it does it well. It's snappy, reliably and compatible with all my existing Alexa devices including my old doorbell chime that looks like it's from the 90s. With birdseye view, I don't get any false positives which is nice! The picture quality is fantastic and super crisp. And the sound when talking to people, it's great! I have good internet and the latency is fantastic from over 13 miles away while at work! My biggest gripe with the thing is the look! Why is it still rocking the same style it did from approximately a decade ago! I think it's time for a redesign! Pros: *High-quality video and audio *Fast response time *Birds-eye view reduces false positives *Wide compatibility: Works with existing doorbell chimes and chimes through Alexa devices. *Strong Wi-Fi performance *Easy installation for the most part Cons: *Dated design: Seriously, why is it still looking like this in 2024? *Requires a subscription for cloud storage and video history *I wish it included one to two hours of event history for free *Wish it had more stuff included like a standard wedge or additional colors *Fish eye on standard feed view, it goes away in full screen mode but I don't like the fish eye look Overall though, super happy, highly recommended!

Disclaimer: I got a chance to win a $400 gift card for writing this review but it did not impact my opinion in any way. I bought two of these. One for the front door and one for the back. Both have low to moderate foot traffic so the batteries last a long time. About 90 days with usual traffic in and out of the house. Image and video quality are great and the settings through the Ring app allow you to customize what the cameras capture and how it notifies you. No complaints at all. Installing them on siding does take a little bit of knowledge and effort to seat them and waterproof the area after you install, but that takes 15 extra minutes for a person with average DIY skills. If you aren't as picky as I am or you have a porch of awning to keep rain water away, you could have these installed in 10 minutes with a screwdriver and the hardware they come with.

The Ring Battery Doorbell Pro is easy to set up, looks great with its Satin Nickel finish, and delivers super clear Head-to-Toe HD+ video. It’s perfect for spotting visitors or packages, and the motion alerts and two-way audio add extra peace of mind. The only downside is recharging the battery now and then, but it’s worth it for the convenience and security.

I was excited to replace my current doorbell camera, so when this product “Ring - Battery Doorbell Pro Smart Wi-Fi Video Doorbell - Battery-powered with Head-to-Toe HD+ Video - Satin Nickel” was received, I couldn’t wait to install it. The Ring Doorbell is pure class! It is very well manufactured and comes with mounting hardware. In my particular case I was able to utilize the predrilled holes in my wall, which made the mounting process a snap! The product is capable of a “hard-wire” installation however I opted for battery use. Upon charging the battery and downloading of the Ring app, I was ready to rock and roll. The Ring app is highly responsive and I encountered no quirks or hiccups! The app is easy to use and is very straightforward. The Ring Doorbell has several customizable settings, some of which are sensitivity and zone. The video quality is fine and my only concern is backlighting. My front door has an overhang, therefore my subject is in the shade and the area directly behind is full sunlight. Depending upon the day, the brightness, and cloud cover will dictate how well you can see the person in the video. The consumer should be aware that you have to subscribe to “their” service that carries a monthly/yearly service charge. This service allows for the storage of your recordings. Overall I am happy with this product. Ring continues to be the industry leader. Fantastic product and I’m very happy with its design, looks and operational capabilities.

    Because It's Ring...

This is by far Ring's best battery doorbell. Is it their best doorbell? No: hardwired will -- almost -- always be better, because hardwired issues features that cannot be sustained by a battery, such as longer recording features, more sensitive motion ability, and even, now, their new firmware is able to detect such sounds as dogs barking. The video quality on this doorbell is better than their best hardwired doorbell, but still doesn't reach 2K, which is something all Ring fans have been asking about, and is most likely yet to come for a while. This battery doorbell also is truly head-to-toe, and still has great video quality. It offers most features that their top hardwired doorbell offers: bird's eye view detection, motion sensitivity adjustment, etc. And, I hardwired mine via a hardwire adapter that now has 24/7 power, and because it's battery -- thus unlike my truly hardwired Ring doorbell that I have on my other door -- this one will have backup battery in case the power goes out for a bit. My top reason for being a Ring security user is this: the integration of devices, let alone their user interface's simplicity. It's so easy to link devices, with this battery doorbell included, to send pings to specific cameras to start recording, sound their sirens (this doorbell does not have a siren), turn spotlights on, etc. Overall, it's 5 stars as a Ring product, and 4 stars as an overall product. Ring offers some of the best features, especially their user interface and device integration that most DIY security companies will never figure out, but still lacks the fundamental 2K video capturing. 4.4 stars overall as a product: 4 stars on this review because Best Buy doesn't let me select "4.4".

It’s reasonable, easy to install and setup. Distance for motion is less compared to older models. The head to toe view is nice, quality is okay, could be a higher resolution to better read license plates or name tags. The AI in calling out a person for motion can be nice. Could have stuck with my older model from 8 years ago and bought a new battery as video quality wasn’t much different besides lack of head to toe. Otherwise it does what’s intended to do.
