I was very excited to join the RING community. The Ring application has worked amazing, notifying me when someone rings my doorbell and the RING community is very engaged and helpful to support eachother. I love the appearance of the doorbell and the comfort of knowing I will be notified when someone is at my door. However, the image quality isn't to the standard or resolution that I expected after having dropped $200 on this camera. Also, the camera doesn't start recording until moments after the guest has either entered the house or until they have turned their back towards the camera. This is frustrating because it rarely captures a quality face image. I guess I expected more for the money. With that said, if I could do it over again I would have considered the NEST or the RING 2 Doorbell. I might recommend this product if you could buy it on sale for $100-$120, but definitely not at $200. -Daniel

Contacted Ring about the terrible quality of this doorbell and the Spotlight cam. They sent a free Ring chime pro but it didn’t help. The quality is still pretty bad. Especially at night. Here’s a few pictures of what I’m talking about. To be fair, it’s not like this 24/7. It lasts a few hours. It’s been like this on and off for the past 3 weeks. Really frustrating. Internet speed it awesome so it’s not that. Also, the live zoom feature doesn’t work anymore. It works for recorded events but not live events. There is a slight delay when trying to review recordings.

Huge disappointment! The delay in recording makes this product useless unless you want a video of someone walking away or what they left on your door flapping in the wind. Also live feed takes so long people walk away. I would absolutely not recommend.

Ring Video Doorbell 2 - Monitor from mobile app

Installed almost a month ago. Easy to install, clear picture. Hooked to our home's wifi through the mobile app. Motion detection is very good and can be adjusted back if too sensitive. Live view is a nice feature but if you have more than one camera, doorbell etc. streaming you can go through mobile data quickly! Multiple mobile users can have access. Ring protection plan is available and very economical (free 30 day trial when you activate your cameras). Comes with one battery and extras are inexpensive and interchangeable with other Ring devices. USB charging cable comes in the package. It looks like one battery charge will last months. It also depends on your settings. The neighborhood watch group in the app is informative. Everything for installation is in the packaging which made it very easy. The only reason I go with 4 stars vs. 5 stars is there was not much information (and is not easy to find after the fact) or a warning about how much data use can occur. We installed 2 security cams and this doorbell and had all 3 with live view activated. We used triple the mobile data we normally do. If you have unlimited no problem or if there was a warning about the live streaming it would have helped. We have adjusted our viewing and love the security of being able to see our home from anywhere. Absolutely a very good purchase that I recommend highly!

    Good system, with caveats

#1 Caveat: Before you buy any WI-FI Ring product, test your WI-FI signal strength at the planned location first. The strength and speed of the WI-FI signal will determine the success and your satisfaction with the product. If you can achieve over 15Mbps download and 5Mbps upload (they say minimum of 2), you should be able to use the system. The download shouldn't matter, but in my testing it seems to make a difference. I have two wi-fi routers and moved one closer to the planned location, that helped tons, even with the Ring Chime Pro to extend the network. The best hint I got was not to place the extender close to the Ring product, but rather about halfway in between the Router and the Ring device. I find that the range of the Ring Doorbell 2 motion sensing is much shorter than what I expected, possibly somewhat due to the front door being above ground level. Even with one wedge installed, it only senses motion out to 5-6 feet. This actually works for me as I can show the entire porch and it has been pretty good at capturing the UPS or Fed-Ex person dropping off a package. The video is clear, but don't expect hi-resolution more than five feet away from the camera. Verdict, works most of the time now that I fiddled with the WI-FI positioning, but still not 100%. I added a Ring Floodlight Cam and I think the camera lag is less than the Ring Doorbell. I have seen it go offline once already, but was able to get it to reconnect without climbing up on the ladder to press the reset button. Really Ring? Poor design there. The floodlight is bright and can be scheduled to come on between user defined hours. The color image resolution is pretty good out to about 20-25 feet, but don't expect to identify someone you don't already know beyond that. The greyscale image at night is considerably less high-resolution which is disappointing since unwanted visitors usually show up at night. I love the alarm feature and the two-way talk feature works pretty well. Again, not 100%, but it does seem faster to connect to the Live View than the Ring Doorbell. I had a good experience with Ring customer service. They were very patient and really helped improve the product operation by making suggestions about the WI-FI. So here is the thing about the WI-FI. Every house is different. The building materials make a difference, your WI-FI setup makes a difference, and the positioning of the Ring device itself. I would not expect perfect performance when you fine tune the installation. I wish it was 100% but it is not. It has great features for what it does do and I consider their $10 a month for video cloud storage to be reasonable for multiple cameras. The nice thing is that you don't need to sign up for the cloud storage in order to get live viewing and push alerts on your phone. I find the push alerts to be a tad slower than I would like, but perhaps I am asking too much for them to be instantaneous. Overall a good product with decent support. Just know going in that you need to know your home's WI-FI limitations ahead of time and it will not be perfect. With the combination of the Ring Floodlight cam and the Ring Doorbell 2, the entire front of the house is covered. I did need to fiddle with the Ring Floodlight Cam motion area polygon to get it right so the two would work well together. I would recommend it for people who are willing to test and adapt the system to their needs.

I've, for the most part, enjoyed my Ring doorbell since I bought it. My only grievances are the same as some that others have mentioned. It alerts me when cars are passing, but not when the delivery driver is at my door. If it does capture the person at the door, it's very delayed and it's usually as they're leaving. If I hit go to live view, it's also very delayed. Other than that stuff, I've liked it a lot. It makes me feel very secure. I also like how I can see the things in my surrounding area that people have reported. I bought an extra battery so when I get the low battery notification I just start charging the other one and swap them out.

Nice camera, good view, not hard to set up or install. However, it does not ring for several seconds after there is motion at the door. I can walk out the door and be on my way down the elevator before I ever hear the sound. Also, I had it hooked up, and installed for a month before I ever realized there was a fee to continue seeing videos of what is happening outside of the door. I found out by email or text (I forget). It is only $ 30 per year , but I still didn't know ahead of time.

I purchased this doorbell for my parents who did not have a wired doorbell system. I had Best Buy to install. Quick installation and a few minutes of instruction and they were all set. They absolutely love it. Video quality is excellent. Easy to use for my parents who are not tech savvy. Good battery life. All that's needed is internet and a smart phone.

I Recently moved into our new home, and realized we needed a security system because our packages were being stolen. I heard about ring Doorbell but never had the chance to try it out for myself. The Ring Doorbell have’s two different setup options for installation – battery or wired. We had decided to go with battery option for the time being saves time and all the hassle with the wire set up at the moment. The battery is rechargeable via USB and can be taken down to be charged. Although, You might get better resolution with the wiring option , But this is what’s best for us at the moment. The picture is great and it paired with the app on our phones easily without any problems. The night vision Is not as bad as I anticipated it to be, But it does get the job done. My only issue with the night vision is it’s hard to see clear faces with a big shadow of green covering the faces. But, I only really wanted this for when in not home during the day , it’s visibly clear and I feel safe knowing I can keep an eye on things when I’m gone. I always like that you can talk through the door bell without opening your door to strangers. Overall, the quality of the ring doorbell is good and motion detection is on par as well, I would recommend!

The Ring Video Doorbell 2 is a great product. It is easy to install and the video and audio quality is great. I was impressed with the quickness in which the battery charged. The motion sensor is extremely sensitive and catches everything moving past my house. No problems - I just indicated the times when I wanted the motion detection activated. I would recommend the Ring Video Doorbell 2.

If you’re trying to decide between the doorbell 2 and the original doorbell get this one. The video clarity is excellent and the night vision mode is pretty nice. There is a subscription required after a couple months I believe. It’s pretty cheap but it’s not discussed on the front end which I think needs to be. I believe it is $60/YR? But it allows you to store and save video as well as go back and review it whenever you feel it’s needed. It is nice to be able to talk to delivery drivers dropping off packages when I’m not home. There is a slight lag by a second or so I would say when you’re talking to someone through it but it’s not too big of an issue. We paired this doorbell with the floodlight which also has an alarm on it which is nice as well. The rechargeable battery in it lasts a few months for us. I just purchased another battery and keep it charged up and it replaces and resets in under a minute. It also comes with an angle and flat mount depending on which way you need your doorbell facing which I liked. I would definitely recommend.

Updated review: good if wifi is good

The Ring doorbell works well both home and away if the wi-fi network at home is setup such that the dB (wi-fi strength) is below -50. It is hard to setup reliable, strong wi-fi signals in a 1950's Florida concrete block house when the location of the Internet connection is at one end of the house on an exterior wall. I ended up investing in a new router and router extender. Some reviews of the ASUS router I purchased gushed that the router would cover a 3500 sq ft two story house. Sadly, there is no way this router could cover my 1500 sq ft one story house with a decently fast connection corner to corner. Physics rules. While I was not thrilled with spending more $$$ investing in an already expensive security doorbell, I must admit the results have been worth it. The wi-fi signal for my original Apple Airport Extreme network with two Airport Extremes was not strong enough or fast enough and I was getting a slow and not always reliable response with the Ring live view. The new network allows fast and reliable live views with both the Ring doorbell 2 and the Ring Spotlight cam. If you are willing to update your wi-fi network at home, for example to purchase an extender, or your wi-fi network is already robust, then the Ring doorbell 2 is an easy addition to any home. Now a few more caveats. The doorbell camera is located under a porch. At night, the greyscale image is sharp and can easily view the neighbor's cars in their driveways across the street. That isn't to say the resolution is great, but the image is clear. Unfortunately, the camera struggles during the day to adjust itself to the lighting because it is in shade looking out towards a sunny yard. Sometimes it ends up stuck on overexposed during live view. Normally restarting the live view fixes it. It is also not good at night when there are very bright lights in its field of view. Not a big deal depending on how flexible your lighting locations might be.

The good: -1080 Rez -REMOVABLE battery - get a second one so you never have to be without the camera -last longer between charges -bronze or stainless faceplate included The not so good: -slightly bulkier -does not come with extra battery -live video will not work until you have tested (rang) the doorbell. I think this is only on the Wireless. Really, the negatives are pretty minuscule compared to the improvements that you can’t go wrong. It is worth every penny knowing your front door is monitored 24/7.

Incredibly easy to install. To view more than the live view you have to pay the yearly fee which is about $30/year. That would also allow go back 30 days worth of footage. I love the compatibility with my Alexa show. If you don’t have an existing chime, just buy the Chime that runs about $30. Overall really happy with the quality of the video and ring service. The field of view is about 150 degrees and it brings two mounts (flat and at an angle) In case it gets stolen, just file a police report and ring should send you one. I have the doorbell and the floodlights and the app to view both is really user friendly. This one can be used with battery or with the power of an existing doorbell. Extra batteries are $20. You can also buy a solar panel attachment. Ring cameras don’t have a hub and work under the WiFi which I prefer unlike the blink or arlo cameras.
