I do not understand why more people don't play this game. It is absolutely fantastic! Fun to play and is actually very instructive for both new and seasoned players. I am a very new beginner trying to learn bass and find it very enjoyable and intuitive. My boyfriend has been playing guitar for over 14 years and finds the "Learn a Song" portion extremely fun to play. It is like Guitar Hero for "real people". His words.
Yes, you do have to have a real guitar or bass to play the game, but for the price of Guitar Hero with guitars or Rockband band in a box, you can easily purchase inexpensive used gear from Guitar Center and Rocksmith for the same price. (I literally got a used guitar for 49.99 from guitar center to play this game).
The game itself is easy to use. You can immediately start by playing songs 'guitar hero' style and hammering away on the strings, adjusting the difficulty from 1% to 100% and even adjusting the speed of the song in the same manner to hit those particularly tricky riffs. Or you can actually start with beginner lessons. The game teaches you the basics all the way up to the 'master level' classes with visual and audio instruction and a practice song to practice and bring home what you were taught in the lesson. (You can also play two player! You will have to purchase a second cord, however.)
Overall, it is by far one of the best purchases I think I've ever made at this price point. Even if you don't intend to learn to play for other people, the game is still fun as just a game. I highly recommend it!

Rocksmith 2014 has been a great learning tool for me. I've been trying to learn guitar off and on for the last ten years with little success except to learn a few riffs. In the first two weeks of owning this product I have learned to play three songs all the way through at full speed and difficulty.
When learning the songs the game starts you off at a low difficulty and as you do well if automatically raises the difficulty. If you get stuck in a certain area the Riff Repeater allows you to find that section of the song and run it on repeat until tou've got it down.
All in all the game is fun to play and challenging. It offers lots of tools to help you learn and get better at playing the guitar.

This is a great program for new guitarists as well as those who already play. It is extremely helpful to have the accompanying drums/vocals/etc. when you are playing the guitar part...helps to keep you motivated. If you already play, I would recommend going into the riff repeater and upping the difficulty to move the song along more quickly!

I love this game(?). It is actually worth buying a guitar just to get to play this. I don't expect it to turn me into Eddie Van Halen or anything, but I certainly feel like I've learned more about how to play guitar than any paid instructor taught me in the past. If anything, it holds my interest and it's kind of cool to make actually music come out of my guitar instead of just noise.

Really fun, addictive game. Haven't had that much time with it yet, but I can see a lot of potential with it. It's pretty expansive if you're into DLC's, but has a pretty good library of around 100 songs to start off with. My only issue with it, is it does have some lag, that doesn't have a fix at the moment.

I love this self paced guitar lesson game. you need a real guitar but Guitar Center has great inexpensive selections for about $99 w/o amplifier since I use my entertainment center at home to power this baby. I gave 4stars since the instructor will not you move on until its perfect ... Bummer.

I got a bass guitar in high school, but like many teens I didn't stick with it very long. Now many years down the road this game has helped me pick it back up. It really helps motivate me and I have had much more success with it than just using tabs on my own. I'm no good at picking up a tune just by listening to a song, so being able to play along slowly at first and work my way up is a great option for me.
My husband on the other hand has played guitar and bass for quite some time so while he may not learn as much as I do he still has fun playing the harder songs and games.
I was hoping for some RHCP and other musicians, but alas no such luck. Still, it has a decent selection of songs by default and even more for purchase.
We just plugged it right in and it works, no major delays despite just using HDMI. We were aware of the issues prior to purchase and have a sound system with optical we could have used, but found it unnecessary.

Very good purchase. Bought this for my daughter who is learning guitar. This was a better edition because it includes bass which she is playing. It's also challenging so it keeps her wanting to keep playing which will help her learn

I was skeptical that a video game like this could actually improve your skills at playing a guitar, but I was proven wrong.
I bought this with literally zero experience with a guitar before in my life (with any musical instrument, for that matter). Videos and reviews online got me interested in what it can do, so I jumped on it during a sale—but only after I found a decent, budget-friendly beginner's electric guitar to buy for myself as well (if anyone reading this is unsure by now, the game requires a REAL guitar and does not come with one). That may make it sound like it's a big investment for just a video game that may or not may live up to its promises, but it's nowhere near as expensive as, say, private guitar lessons or classes.
I was surprised with my progress with a guitar just by playing Rocksmith. I played every day for about an hour, sometimes more, for almost a month. Coming from zero experience and skill, I became comfortable with both of my hands and playing basic songs without always having to look down at my hands. Due to getting busy with life, I stopped playing regularly thereafter for more than a month, and I lost a lot of my progress. I had to decrease difficulty a bit when playing Rocksmith then, but the game recognized that I didn't have full mastery of certain basics at that point and thus didn't increase difficulty steadily pending my performance but rather "stayed with me", so to speak.
Just goes to show that the game can improve skills, at least for a complete beginner, but only so long as you put in the time and practice, just like with everything else. It's really fun, too, so it's easy wanting to play this game regularly!

So far I'm enjoying my time with this game. I'm still picking up on some confusing areas of the game design. Such as fret identification and track section selection, but nothing that pausing for a moment won't help out with. Just getting use to the design layout and features while trying to not freaking out over a section of music takes a minute. Song tracks can be slowed down as well. My Gibson Les Paul's notes are picked up with accuracy as well as my LTD bass. However my old Fender Squire's notes on the high end aren't identified accurately through some sections. Some slides across the frets aren't that accurate during practice sections, but play well through the songs. If you've got your gear in tune and a little bit of patience, this game is worth while!

Amazing tool for learning guitar, if you struggled with conventional methods. Its like playing a game like rock band, but you are almost learning subconsciously. And as a plus its really fun, whether its the mini games or learning a song with rocksmiths intuitive advancement system that increases difficulty in real time as your technique and accuracy improve. With that being said it is a commitment if you are serious about becoming guitarist. You will get frustrated and excited, you will be disappointed and impressed by what you can do, but in the end rocksmith is a great experience and well worth your time to helping you learn learn guitar.

I grew up playing several instruments including piano, violin, trumpet, trombone and sax; but I could never got use to playing guitar. While I am far from a pro, this game will help you learn the basics and teach you just like a pro would. I would recommend this game first to learn the basics and than go to a professional if you plan to be amazing as a this game can only take you so far but even that is a huge step.

This really is the best way to pick up learning if you don't want to spend hours watching YouTube videos. I get lost for hours in the game. I will say If found a bit of latency when playing off of my Bose speakers. I think that is because I have the Bose speakers plugged directly into the TV via Optical out and not straight into the PS4. I play with my Sony Playstation Gold headset and there is no delay though so I've been alright with it.

When I first saw this game I didn't take it serious thinking it would just be a guitar hero clone that requires you to use a real guitar. Thankfully, I was pleasantly surprised. The game actually teaches you the fundamentals of how to properly play a guitar. It does a great job of teaching you at your own pace and after a few weeks you why notice a very obvious improvement in your skill.

I got Rocksmith for PS3 initially for my son and he taught himself to play the guitar. When I got my PS4 then he inspired me to get Rocksmith 2014 and I am now doing something I always wanted to do growing up and that is playing guitar. It just goes to show you are never to old to do what you want to do and thanks to Rocksmith I am able to do just that.
