Great picture but too much looming/bleeding
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this TV on September 19, 2021 and the picture was the most crystal clear picture I've ever seen. I LOVED it. Movies, TV shows, and video games looked fantastic. The interactive menu was a bit sluggish as but still worked fairly well. Then all of a sudden, we had a blooming/bleeding/clouding issue that remains on the screen no matter what was showing. This showed up in the upper left corner of the screen. It remained to the point that we wanted a replacement, so we replaced on September 29, 2021. This TV set had the exact same issue, which makes me believe it's an issue with the way this Samsung TV model is made. Blooming or clouding in the with the same placement but taking over a larger portion of the screen on the right side instead of the left (pics attached). I loved the TV so much and it was the most clear picture I could imagine. Refresh rate was top notch. It was like a window instead of a TV screen. However, the constant blooming was too much to bear and was terrible while watching dark scenes at night. I used a receiver for surround sound so I did not use the speakers on the TV. I played around with the picture settings many times and checked out the firmware update. There was nothing that could have fixed the issue. I've had $300 tvs for years that have had no issues but two straight flagship Samsung's costing over $1,000 gave me the issue. It was disappointing and unacceptable. I replaced with a Sony which has its own myriad of issues. The quality of TVs in this day don't seem to match the quality of yesteryear.

Avoid this model
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Please avoid this model, i bought this tv a few days ago and had to take back to bb to exchange it for another one because the blooming/light bleed its very noticeable that is annoying. The new one they gave me does the same thing. You can't enjoy any type of content with dark scenes because of the blooming, was trying to watch the batman and notice all the blooming, try to change the setting but nothing worked. Also i did try different streaming platforms and it was all the same. Maybe the new q80b(2022 model) had fixed this issue because its really annoying. Now im gonna have to go back to bb to change it again but now im going to try to get the qn85, hopefully that one doesn't have this kind of issues. which it shouldn't because it has mini led but we will have to see.

Atrocious Samsung Q80 tv
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This has been the most shocking experience of my time with this purchase. This tv Samsung Q80 65” it’s quality is atrocious and disappointing. I brought this tv and screen has bright spots at the top of the screen. I returned the tv a total of 3 time and each one has the bright spot’s. Need I remind you these are brand new out of the box. I just upgraded to the neo Q85 65” Hopefully this model will work or I will have to no longer purchase Samsung products.

Dead Pixels
||Posted . Owned for 11 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have only had this for 11 months and already have a strip of dead pixels. Glad I purchased a warranty. In contrast, have a 16 year old Sony that still is flawless. Come on Samsung, you can do better.

Twice bitten by light bleed & blooming
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The good: Delivered and installed by Geek Squad who were accomodating in every way, putting the Q80A together and placing it on my living room stand. One feature I liked was the base which allowed placement on most TV stands. In a well lit room and away from distracting reflections, picture and 4K resolution were fantastic. Works well with eARC to connect existing A/V Receivers and Soundbars, no sound delay when watching content with Dolby Atmos or DTS. LOVE the solar powered remote and works with external devices like Apple TV and most Blu Ray players! The Bad: Perhaps I fell prey to panel lottery, yet my Q80A had light bleed issues at the bottom of the screen. Tried tweaking brightness settings and picture presets to minimize the bleed, sadly the defect remained a distraction especially during dark scenes with widescreen movies and dark room viewing. I gave the Q80A a second chance with a replacement, unfortunately that too had light bleed at the bottom and upper left hand side. This defect combined with distracting blooming/halo effect from the Full Array Local Dimming feature (noticeble with dark room viewing) was unacceptable for the amount of money spent, even at a sale price. BB sales rep tried to tell me blooming and light bleed were normal and you had to buy the more expensive Samsung OLEDs for improved viewing. The Best Buy personnel who picked up my flatscreen for return balked at the sales rep’s opinion and agreed with me that no one should pay any price for display defects, period.

No store phone number??
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.First of all, for a store that sells mostly $1000 items, it is NOT okay that there is no number to call the store directly. We bought this model and loved the picture, but it has a bad glare during the day, and after 2 days, the screen started flickering vertical lines. Had to bring back the 65" TV without being able to call and speak to someone ahead of time to make sure they will be able to help me.

Expected better
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I expected much better from this TV. It has a lot of shimmering and ghosting. I worked on the settings for almost a week. I set the picture clarity on Custom and set the blur and judder reductions to the maximum, adjusted the Intelligent Mode, the Picture Mode, got QLED cables for my new Apple 4K streaming box. I could go on and on. You name it and I did it. The only time I don’t have this issue is when I’m playing video games. It displays games very well. The sound is fine but like I said, it’s the shimmering and ghosting. It does this on everything from SD to 4K and it’s pretty distracting. I’m hoping that Samsung does a software update to fix this, if that’s even possible. I normally buy Sony electronics but my Sony 4K TV died on me after just 2 1/2 years and I was afraid to get another one. For as long as it lasted, the movement on the screen was flawless. Honestly, I would avoid buying this TV. Samsung has a very good reputation and I was sure that I couldn’t go wrong but unfortunately, I did.

Thank you for your review of Samsung's Q80A TV and for sharing details of image quality. To address the ghosting images you are seeing, please try the following steps:
1. Try connecting the TV to a different source (e.g. change HDMI ports.) to identify whether the issue is with the TV or the source.
2. Power cycle both the TV and the source. Make sure to unplug the TV and the source from the power point, wait at least one minute before plugging and turning them back on.
3. Check to see if your TV has the latest firmware version (1805.4). If not, update to the latest firmware.
4. Reset the Picture Settings. Go to: Home > Settings > Picture Expert Settings > Reset Picture
5. Try adjusting your TV's Power and Energy Saving functions. Go to: Home > Settings > General > Power and Energy Saving to adjust the Brightness Optimization, Brightness Reduction, and Motion Lighting.
I hope these tips help! Should you ever have questions or need help, please call us at 1-800-SAMSUNG (ask for TVs), available 8AM - 12AM EST, 7 days a week.

I regret not buying LG OLED TV instead
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I don't know where to start: - Their technology is so outdated that if I try to listen to TV using my Bluetooth earphones it keeps hanging up because it conflicts with sound bar! I guess too complicated for Samsung engineers to figure this out! - Without a sound bar the TV speakers are so weak that you have to sit within 6 ft from TV to hear them! - I bought the sound bar for $250 and the voice quality was still bad. Apparently Samsung wants you to buy the latest $600 sound bar that goes specifically with their QLED TVs. - Samsung decided the TV's remote control should be charged by solar instead of batteries!! So they expect us to take the remote for a sun tan on our backyards everyday in order to be able to use it! Pure Genius! - Picture quality is good but I agree with other reviews that the picture is way too bright at night and has "light bleed" that I regret not buying an OLED TV instead.

Posted .Hi Mario,
Thank you for your review of Samsung's Q80A TV. We appreciate your feedback regarding your thoughts on the remote, as well as experience with Bluetooth connectivity. In addition to it's solar cell charging, please know your remote can be charged with indoor/ambient lighting, as well as with a USB-c cable.
When connecting via Bluetooth, there are a few things to keep in mind.
1) You can't use Bluetooth devices and the Wi-Fi Speaker Surround Setup feature simultaneously.
2) Compatibility issues may occur, depending on the Bluetooth device (A Mobile exclusive headphone may not be available, depending on the environment).
3) Lip-sync errors may occur.
4) The TV and Bluetooth device may disconnect, depending on the distance between them
Additionally, your TV features SpaceFit Sound to optimize sound tailored to your environment and Active Voice Amplifier (AVA) which further detects disturbances and enhances the on-screen voices for clear dialogue.
Go to Home > Settings > General > Intelligent Mode Settings. Turn the options on or off to meet your needs:
- Active Voice Amplifier is available only when the sound sensor of the TV is active and the sound output is set to TV Speaker, or a Samsung Soundbar interlinked with Adaptive Picture is connected.
- Adaptive Sound+ provides optimized sound quality by analyzing the viewing space and the acoustic components of the content
- Adaptive Volume Automatically adjusts to a specific volume level while you are watching TV.
Several Sound Modes are likewise available to meet your personal preferences: Home > Settings > Sound > Sound Mode
You can also customize sound with Expert Settings.
Go to: Settings > Sound > Expert Settings
If you are uncomfortable with the default brightness settings, you can customize the brightness level between 0 – 50 to your preference. Go to Home > Settings > Picture > Expert Settings > Brightness.
You can also try different Picture Modes to see which best fits your needs. Go to Home > Settings > Picture > Picture Mode for the below choices:
1) Standard: Is the default mode suitable for general viewing environments.
2) Natural: Reduces eye strain for a comfortable viewing experience.
3) Movie: Is suitable for watching TV or movies in a dark room.
4) Dynamic: Makes the picture brighter and clearer in bright viewing environments.
5) Filmmaker Mode: You can watch the source content (e.g., movie) as it is. If the image is defined as Filmmaker Mode, it will automatically switch to Filmmaker Mode while watching.
Intelligent Mode also enables the TV to recognize and analyze the surroundings, noise, content, and your usage patterns to provide the best viewing experience. You can enable Intelligent Mode by going to Home > Settings > General > Intelligent Mode Settings. Adaptive Picture, which is among the options, optimizes brightness and provides the best picture quality in real time, based on the lighting condition and the content you're viewing.
To ensure that your TV is optimized, please also be sure that you are always running the latest firmware update. You can check this by going to Settings > Support > Software Update or you can enable Auto Update for convenience.

||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The picture quality is really good. But I encountered a problem with this TV connected to my Mac Mini computer. It would flicker black intermittently. Thank you for choosing Samsung's Q80A TV and for sharing your experience. If your TV has a black screen even when it's on, it's quite possible it could actually be your external device and not your TV. Please try these troubleshooting steps for your blank screen issue:
1. Press the Home button on the remote.
If the menu appears, the TV is powered on, but is either not on the correct source or not receiving a signal.
If the menu does not appear, the TV may be having power issues.
Check the red standby light, a little red light at the edge of the TV that you aim the remote at. In normal use, the red standby light is on when the TV is off (indicating the TV is on standby), and the red standby light is off when the TV is in use (or doesn't have power).
2. Confirm the TV is set to the same source as the external device.
For instance, if your cable box is connected to HDMI 1, set the TV source to HDMI 1.
If the TV is set to the correct source, but there is still no image, unplug and reconnect the AV connections one cable at a time, from both ends of each cable. If there's any damage to the cable, it will need to be replaced.
After you've reconnected the external device, turn it off and then back on.
3. Test the HDMI cable.
Some TVs have an HDMI cable test. Some models only have this test after a software update, and older models do not have it. If your model does not have this test, or is not connected by HDMI, skip to the next step.
The test is designed for HDMI cords less than 6 feet long and may not give accurate results on longer cords.
To perform the test, make sure the TV's source is still on the HDMI setting for the cable you want to test, and then navigate to Settings > Support > Self Diagnosis > Signal Information > HDMI Cable Test > Start Test.
If the test says the cable is bad, replace the cable. Service is not required.
4. Test different external devices.
The final thing to rule out is the external device you're using. Try connecting a different device or using a different source port. If you were unable to test the cable in the previous step, then try swapping the cable, too.
If the TV can display a picture in any other setup, then you've ruled the TV out as the cause of the issue. Keep trying various setups until you identify the device or cable that is not working and troubleshoot or replace it.
If the issue persists after these steps, then the TV will need service. Please contact us so that we can better investigate your issue and assist you towards a solution or replacement. Call us at 1-800-SAMSUNG (ask for TVs), available 8AM - 12AM EST, 7 days a week.

Awful backlight bleed
||Posted . Thank you for purchasing Samsung's Q80A TV and for sharing the details of your issue with Wi-Fi connectivity. A network issue may be the cause. You may want to go through these steps to check your network connection:
1) Make sure that no items that can generate electromagnetic interferences are placed between the TV and the wireless/wired access point.
2) Check if the access point is turned on. If it is on, turn it off, wait 1 or 2 minutes, and then turn it on. Enter the correct password if required.
3) If the wireless connection fails, connect the TV to the access point via a LAN cable. If the TV can connect to the Internet normally via the wired connection, there might be a problem with the access point. In this case, try using a different access point.
4) Perform a network test to check if there is a network problem. Press the Home button on your remote. Navigate to Settings > Support > Device Care > Self Diagnosis> Smart Hub Connection Test
5) Try a cold reboot of your TV by pressing and holding the power button for 5+ seconds until the TV turns off and on again.
To ensure that your TV's image quality & performance is optimized, be sure that you are always running the latest firmware update. You can check this by going to Settings > Support > Software Update or you can enable Auto Update for convenience.
I hope these tips help. Should you need further assistance, please contact Samsung Customer Support at 1-800-SAMSUNG (ask for TVs), available 8AM -12AM EST M-F (9AM – 6PM EST Sat). Or text HELP to 62913.

Thank you for choosing Samsung's Q80A TV and for sharing your experience. I am sorry to hear that your previous TV's HDMI cables do not work with your new TV.
The Q80A TV supports HDMI eARC, which requires the use of high speed cables. We recommend utilizing an Ultra High-Speed HDMI cable with Ethernet Channel, labeled as HEC or HEAC on the cable itself.
